how to root nexus 7 8gb? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had a 32gb nexus 7 for a little while and it was easy to root but the toolkit doesnt seem to wanna work on my 8gb nexus 7 I got for $135 on craigslist. my 32gb version dropped 2 feet off a coffee table and died so I got basically fvcked on that one.. I need to know how to make USB audio work on a n 8gb nexus 7 so I can fabricate it to be the head unit of my car.

it only says 16/32gb. how do I root the 8gb? I installed drivers, did USB debugging my clicking the kernel thing 7 times in about device in the settings, had it in fastboot, selected it as a 4.2.1 device and it wouldn't root it at all.
I also installed drivers and even rebooted he computer and tried 5 more times.

I used wugs root kit and it worked fine for me

how do i trasnfer files to nexus from pc

i have unlocked and rooted nex 7 and now try install cyanogen mod i have zip for lasted version and latest version of gapps but cant put them on sd card on nexus because i get an error how can i do it?
thanks!
You could transfer them using Airdroid: http://airdroid.com/
Same here, that is awesome App。or via OTG function
Airdroid is good. I'd also suggest Software Data Cable since it allows you to drag and drop files between the device and your computer right from Windows Explorer.
What error do you get? That would be helpful for figuring out what the problem is.

Rooting problem - need help and guidance

Hello all,
I've followed all the instructions posted on how to root my Nexus 4 on either YouTube and XDA. However, I keep getting the same "waiting for device" message once I set my device into bootloader mode. Any tips on what can or must I do next to solve this issue?
Thank you and I appreciate any help I get in here in advance

Use Wugs toolkit to install the device drivers

And you should really have posted this in Q & A

Well my first thought is to make sure you have USB debugging enabled. After that I would try the PDA net drivers instead of the one that came with the toolbox. I had a similar issue and that fixed it.

Mine was a pain to root. Drivers wouldn't update, other things didn't work, and the toolkit kept saying my ADB was off. The problem was my sdk wasn't up to date. Once I fixed that, I just used the ADB method and it was done in ten minutes.

Thank you so much. I'm downloading the Wugs toolkit now. Will revert back once I've installed and root my device
p/s - sorry for the noob mistake of posting this in the wrong thread. I think it was already moved by an admin.

I have apparently enable USB debugging but the issue still persists. I'm gonna try BigSimon's suggestion and will let you know if it works.
Anyway, thank you so much for the feedback

New to nexus 4 what's the easiest root method

Tried the nexus root.com method but I'm not all that computer inclined as I thought I was looking. My Samsung was simple lg spectrum I got but this isn't that easy I guess

Don't use a toolkit. Do it right.

This will save your butt in the long run. Trust me.
Some folks prefer the adb/fastboot method and others will use the toolkits.
I suggest you use this toolkit since you said you're computer inclined.

Bury it in good soil with fertilizer and water it everyday.

Nexus root.com is about as easy as it gets.....do some research read a few threads and use your search.......ADB is not that hard to set up.....

This is the easiest way to Root your N4. Download the zip file from chainfire, and run the .bat file in fastboot mode. Done. All it does is push the superuser binaries to your device. No recovery will be installed. (*Note* you do have to be fastboot unlocked, so you will need to install the Android SDK package on your PC)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2025274
I used the tool kit found in the dev section and it was really easy. Unlock, root, install recovery all at once.

Search for naked driver in the forum and update you drivers.
Also use MTP checked in settings, It will prompt you to choose when you connect the phone to pc. :good:

[SOLVED] Nexus 4 Completely Unrecognized

Hello, well, i'm having a little problem here, the thing is, my Nexus 4 is not recongnize at all by the computer, any computer, i already tried another computer, another usb cable, clearing cache, reset the device, usb debugging on and off, MTP and PTP and nothing, i'm using Archlinux and i think that the problem is not the computer because the Nexus 7 (2012) is recognize just fine, i believe that the problem started with Towelroot because before that everything was ok, i can't even update the OTA for the 4.4.4 because it sends an "error" when updating. Another thing, the phone charges so that is interesting.
I'm dying here
Any solution or comment please.
Thanks.

Hello, first, thanks for answering.
Well, i'm always been stock, never tried another ROM.
I'm scared about the idea of the USB port problem, but if it's the port, why charges normal in USB? Pretty interesting.
It's working now, had to remove and install again SDK tools from the computer and reset the phone but it's solved.
Thanks a lot  :good:
