Multiple bumps on chrome bezel and loose rubber edge - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I was just wondering if I was the only one with several fairly noticeable bumps on the chrome bezel.
Also, I think my rubber edging is loose as it can easily be made to click loudly if pressed gently anywhere near the bottom. Also, when a cable is plugged into the port it moves a fair bit and the slowest and gentlest movement upward creates a loud click. I think it is the metal on the male part touching the female part but it sounds louder than it should be, sort of like static.
So, should I be worried enough to contact Google?

I have a few of those little bumps on my chrome bezel as well. My first N4 (now on my replacement due to signal issues) didn't have them. At first they bothered me, but the rest of my phone works fine so I'm happy. I don't want to replace it and get a phone with a problem that I can't live with.
As for the creaking/click sound. My first phone did it and my second one does it as well, though not as bad. I think on my first one I actually made it worse because when I realized it made that click sound. I would often recreate it by pressing on that same spot. Not sure why. Maybe I hoped it would fix itself and suddenly go away. I'm sure you could replace it, but you may get another phone with a worse defect. If the only thing wrong with your N4 is that click sound, I'd just enjoy the device as is. If at some point in the future something more severe takes place, then I'd look in to getting a replacement. Over all the years of using cell phone. I realized there's no perfect device and I'm OK with that.

That sounds exactly like my phone and what I do yo recreate the sound. I try not to so it but I do sometimes hoping it has gone since last time. Maybe I should send Google an email letting them know and if it gets worse they can't blame me.

I suppose you could try that. It couldn't hurt to call them and relay your experience.

The USB port clicking when plugged in, is caused by the port not correctly installed into the phones housing. I had the same issue and to fix it I opened and disassembled the phone and moved the port lower into the opening so the port stays in place. The noise is caused by the port clipping the edge of the opening in the housing.

Thanks it helps to know what is causing the problem but to be honest I'd rather see if it gets worse and if it does get Google to sort it out than inevitably break it if I try and take it into my own hands. It doesn't inflict functionality at the moment and I'm going to start using wireless charging soon.
I'm glad you managed to sort yours out though!

I have like two bumps on my top left corner. Do you have lines running down all corners? Is that possibly from molding?

Hey guys, I've been searching for this problem.
I also got a bump on the top left of my phone, just right of the headphone jack. Tried to "push" it back with force, but it would not give.
Also, I got the clicky bottom, which is weird.
So, anyone knows how to fix these bumps?

My NS has a lot of problems and I still LOVE it

Please, please, stop all these new threads about problem after problem.
My phone has the bent glass curve at the top but not the bottom, I have a screen with a major blue tint, it has about 4 or 5 little bands running across it, and the home button even freezes from time to time.
I'm not stressing. None of these issues really hinder me from using my phone. AND if they did, I wouldn't make a 2nd or 3rd thread about the issue when using the search button would bring up numerous results. Hell, when you create a new post now, XDA is nice enough to auto search for you.

No problems here, I think the glass is supposed to "bend" at the top, it is concave after all.
mine is like a Boat!
sort of like a flat banana
it does seems to have been designed that way, else i'll imagine the glass to be flat, instead of concave
the case plastic shell of the phone is concave shape as well

Is this what everyone complains about?

Just got my nexus 7 in today. It seems fine, although, I noticed that con the cleft side of the screen, it seems to be slightly raised in the middle. The corners attached fine. Are people sending out back for this? It doesn't seem like an issue, just an annoyance
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Sounds like it. Seems like it's always on the left side for some reason. It's lifts up over the bezel and you can push down on it and it lifts again later. That is how mine is... or was hopefully.
I heated it up with a game, then put a couple clamps on it, left it over night turned off, and today it has stayed down so far. Hope the adhesive that is suppose to hold the glass down sticks now.
I had a previous one though that was slightly different, it was raised on the left side, but I couldn't push it down. Seemed like a screw was tightened too far or something. I sent that one back.
Either deal with it or get a refund if it really bothers you. You can also try number of fixes that are posted on these forums. They pretty much all have this issue to some degree.

Yes this is it, but the real problem is if it makes a noise when you push on it. THATS the annoying part.
Mine doesn't make any noise, although it definitely is a tiny bit squishy and if you try and push hard on it, it does act a little like an LCD monitor. I just didn't care enough to try and return it, as I would have never noticed it if everyone hadn't had their panties up in a wad as much as they did. I figure the worst that happens is that it gets worse over the next year and I end up having to spend a whole $200 more on a newer model.
I agree. I can't imagine this truly hurting the experience. Oh well. Not a big deal as long as it works well

Are you guys serious? If I buy a product, it better not have defects. Why would anyone settle for bad quality? Products these days should not have any issues with the technology we have.
This doesn't make sense to me.
Mine is arriving next week and I hope everything is perfect.

I agree, if it was a true issue I would get a new one. In my case, it is only raised in the middle, and not that noticeable. Everything else is fine. You can fix that too
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Besides it shouldn't affect performance. I hope

When I got my second one from the play store, it looked like the middle of the left side was raised. I thought I pushed it down but it never came back up.
I keep looking at it and touching it but nothing. I don't know if I imagined it or maybe bad lighting.
Just install a TPU case where the lip overhangs the screen. Problem solved. Out of sight out of mind. I'm enjoying my N7.
If its a problem 6 months later then I'll call and exchange it. Big whoop.

Doesn't affect my daily use so why should I care. I purchased a two year warranty through square trade should anything go wrong. I shouldn't expect defects but if it truly isn't hurting anything, then meh.

I don't think that they all have this issue, only a select few. I have been lucky enough to get 4 Nexus 7's and no issues. I have seen the issue posted on the site several times though, and the fixes seem pretty easy. There are some youtube videos on fixing it too. Good luck fixing it mate, would take advantage of the warranty if I were you.
Thank you! I can't understand why anyone would send it in for something like that

You can't understand how when someone holds their tablet by the left bezel and it creaks like a floor board, they'd like to return it? That perhaps when using the tablet as a book they don't want to be distracted by clicking noises?

I am not talking about a problem to that extreme, I am talking about, a very slight raise in the middle, with no squeak. The only thing that I can think of that could be bothersome about that is that when you push hard on the bezel, a little bit of the left screen ripples

I have exact the same problem as described. They most annoying part is they "cracking" sound it does when tapping on the left side. I curious whether the touchscreen responsivness issue is somehow related to this problem.
Btw I thought it might be related to the processor since its also on the left side, maybe the heat causes the glue to detach ... if you know what I mean.

My power button feels very solid and I like how it sticks out more than the GNEX. Also, I don't think it will be prone to eventual wear (and stop working) like the GNEX did. Feels solid man.

This phone on the bottom is creak central man I hate to say it but I may stick with my sg3. The whole reason I got this phone because I was praying for no creaks I drove to NY to get this phone took me an hour drive anyways I'm actually hoping the bumper might solve this problem but I might just sell mines the touch sensitivity is pretty weak as well. But in the Context of a 350 dollar phone I'd rate it pretty godly But damn it creaks worst then a TV remote exchanging it will do nothing only slow the problem down

I have the creaking in the bottom left as well. I'm wondering if this has something to do with the majority of cracking happening in that area near the speaker grill.

Heat & gap concerns

Hi
I got my HTC one just under a week ago on three and I'm in love with it. But there are some things I'm worried about. One thing is that when I play games or plug the phone in charge the cool aluminum back becomes rather uncomfortably hot and makes me have to switch hands, it doesn't burn but it does irritate...
Secondly I've seen some posts about gaps at the top and I have those but I was wondering if anyone else has a very fine bulge of the plastic above where the usb port is? I don't know if this is a fault of my phone or it is a general thing so I don't know whether to ask for an exchange or not... If anyone wants pictures of the gap just say!

I can see it, i have excactly the same on my One, im just living with it though as everything else is soo perfect!
The only thing im worried about, is were that is, were the charger plugs in, the 2 little 'Catches' on the charger that hold it in rub on the white bit, in other words the hole seems to small, only slightly, i may contact HTC about this as im a little worried it will cause future problems like a Broken Charger or Charge Point etc. . .
Yeah that's exactly what I was worried about with the charger thing, if you do contact HTC let me know how it goes

Mine gets very hot too, I'm guessing that is a metal thing though, the gaps don't bother me or any slight overhang.
For me the issues are...
Blinkfeed
Heat
slow charging
home button is so hard to hit because it's small and in the corner
no battery percentage
no file search on the phone

Try a launcher or put blink feed to the side and disable all sources? The file search apps on the market do me fine but normally they put something on the battery so there is less heat transfer to one spot I n the metal but I don't think they've done that in the first batch :/ and mine charges pretty fine as well
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I too have the overhang on the charging port. I have had two handsets (first one replaced due to gaps at top which moved when pressed) and its been on them both.
Second one has a slight dent/scratch in the white band, so ill wait another week (still in 28 days) and try and get another swap out. I do love the phone, battery life is immense, I'm getting about 2.5 days out of it at mo.
I have owned so many HTC phones it boggles the mind. In that time I have had to have 3 go in for repair. On stopped charging (one S) another had the wifi GPS glitch (one X international) and one just plain died one day to never turn on again (ATT one x+). All of these were taken care of by HTC. Can't say without issue, the international one X they scratched the case and took a little while to get a new one but in the end all my issues were taken care of. I would really say wait until HTC has resolved these issues and then they will take care of you 100%. You will need to be able to send the phone in for repair but they are fairly quick about 10 days total turn around time. They also didn't have any issue at all repairing a international phone at the USA HTC repair center something that is not true with Samsung.
Are you in the UK or America? Cus if you're in the UK I think I can get an exchange as well

[Q] Does your LG G2 "bend?"

Hey guys.
First time posting here, sorry if i'm breaking any rules.
I have an issue with my LG G2, just wondering if it's normal. If I take my case off the phone so it's "naked" when I put some force on both ends of the device, "bending" it i guess is the best word, I can hear it crackle and it feels like it's going to fall apart honestly.
Also by the power button/volume button if I push directly there the phone crackles and I can push in on it a little bit.
Of course i'm not applying a lot of pressure when doing this.
TLDR: Phone feels very flimsy, is this normal?
Maybe you bought the "chinese" version not the korean one! !!hahahaha my g2 is solid and i use it naked all the time
Why you even trying to bend your phone? What an idiotic thread this is.

If it doesn't "crackle" during normal use, you have nothing to worry about.. Funny thing is tho I might have been really high, but I was looking at my phone and it looked twisted(literally lol) so I twisted it slightly the other way and it crackled a bunch and didn't do it anymore.. Lol. Was weird..

No bend on mine... very well made considering the materials.
mine bends 90degrees both ways and its amazing........
Mine bends more than the flex and still works. Really though, sometimes a bit of crackle from back cover when I twist it, sometimes not. What has annoyed me, on the Verizon variant, the damn volume down key can get stuck if pressed in the right spot with fingernail (right at minus sign pressing down with fingernail, doesn't happen with normal finger press). This is after a little over a month of wear. My phone is flawless every other way.
Mine is solid. I have no cracking when using the back buttons. This is the most solid phone I have owned. I have the D801 so I don't know if that matters at all.
Sent from my LG-D801 using XDA Premium HD app
I guess bend was a bad word to use, more like flex.
Seems like it's split 50/50. Hmm. It isn't a huge issue, it's more so by the power, directly left of the power button about 1cm. I can literally push it in a little tiny bit and you can hear crackling. Almost like there is kind of a pocket of space between the back plastic and the 'insides.'
Thanks for the replys, im out of my 14 day period so i guess i'm stuck with it!
EDIT: otherwise I LOVE the phone.
EDIT2: I guess Flex isn't a good word either considering there is an LG Flex. All I mean by "Bend" Is taking your hands on both ends of the device, (top and bottom) and pulling back slightly. Nothing enough to damage the phone at all, just to kind of test the build quality.

well, if you bend a phone that doesn't require to bend it, it is normal to here crackle.
@BrandonShea, there are actually a couple pocket gaps under that area for certain connection on the phone. The back cover is very thin plastic and removable so this is no surprise.
Mine crackles when pressure is applied on the edge and the lower back part of the phone. They should have filled the empty spaces inside with a larger battery pack. Fill it to the brim
mine snaps, crackles, and pops when I pour milk on it
