Hi I've recently fallen in love with the tf700 I I want it . Lol anyway is I love my nexus 7 but I need somethingto edit word documents , edit pictures , Skype my girlfriend in HD , basically a laptop replacement.. my n7 is not cutting it.. I'd still love to keep the n7 for gaming ...and cause it's a nexus lol. Ummmm anyway how do those of you with tf700s n7s + super smartphone (gnex ) share the love ?

So, to answer the question:
I try to go out of my way to do little things throughout the day for other people. Holding doors and giving up my seat on the subway are easy ways of sharing the love. I also try to always go the extra mile for my friends and family, I'm known as the guy to go to for help in all sorts of areas. Even just being polite to people - friends and strangers alike - especially when you're tired or grumpy, can make a big difference. Sharing the love certainly isn't some science, sadly there is no equivalent to the first law of thermodynamic, but generally speaking you'll find that the love does make its way back to you eventually.
On an unrelated note, grab a nice kickstand case and a bluetooth keyboard (or a wired via OTG cable) and you'll find it does all the stuff you mentioned. Sure, the camera isn't brilliant for skype but the screen is great for photo editing and you can run all the same document editing software and just use a physical keyboard. The TF700 is a great tablet but you'll be paying ~$500 + ~$130 for the keyboard. At that price you'd be better off getting a netbook for your serious work and using the Nexus 7 for the fun stuff.
I own TF700 and Nexus 7 and love both equally. TF700 is great for watching videos and doing general "laptop replacement" work while Nexus 7 is mostly used for web browsing, streaming content from my PCs to the receiver and playing some games like Dead Trigger and Shadowgun (as it is easier to hold than 10" tablet).

I'm thinking about getting a Nexus 7 but I'm a student with not a whole lot of money. So I'm trying to decide if I should save up to get one and keep my Xoom, or sell the Xoom to make up to cost of the N7.
I currently use my Xoom for games, films, books, news apps (pulse), splash top, browsing, and my uni work (taking notes, and as an aid for presentations). It is running official Jelly Bean ota.
My only doubt with the N7 is the fact that the screen is smaller and that I might struggle with uni work on it. Anyone use their N7 for this kind of thing?

Hey actually I'd like to know this as well. I haven't owned a tablet at all - is a 7 inch big enough to do some word processing on it, and does anyone use an external keyboard with their N7?
I'd say this really comes down to what is acceptable for YOU. It can do everything your Xoom can, but the screen is going to be much smaller. With an external keyboard you would probably be fine, but it really depends how much of a sacrifice you are willing to make on screen size.
I have been using mine as a productivity device lately, and I have to say, it works damn well. I use Evernote and Thumb Keyboard with a smart case that allows it to sit up slightly at an angle, allowing it to be typed on. I also bought the HP Touchpad bluetooth keyboard which works great, but I don't like to lug both to meetings. I find that I am very effective at using the onscreen (Thumb) keyboard.
3 weeks ago I ordered the 3 pack of styli from Meritline for like $2.00. They arrived today, and they work amazingly well when used with a note taking app that is designed for handwriting (like Papyrus).
I'd say don't bother with it. The keyboard on those cases are garbage and typing on them is like typing on those rubber roll up keyboards. U don't get any response from the keys. A 50 dollar laptop with Linux can do Anything productivity related better than nexus 7

How's the keyboard? I've been thinking about which I would use at school (iPad or N7), and have been thinking about a keyboard for one of them. Apparently according to the reviews on Amazon, it works for both..

Really I would say the nexus 7 is best for taking notes etc, but if you want to make proper documents then a 10" screen really works well.
I'd say if you are taking notes, the n7 w/ an external keyboard would be fine.
If you are working spreadsheets, or typing papers, especially with graphs, charts, or anything that you want a larger view for, then then N7 would probably be too small
So I have a little question. Is there any app like S-note from samsung that is so powerful? Maybe an app that turns handwriting to text?

It's awesome. There are keys on it that were designed specifically for the Touchpad that work for the N7 as well, like search. Small, lightweight, black, w/chicklet keys. Perfect.

Tbh for anything bigger than taking notes I use my laptop. I only use my Xoom for presentation for the sake of 3D models (I'm on an architecture course) and pictures

Hello I bought the iPad mini on the release day in Denmark..
I really enjoy the build quality on the MINI but i got boring really fast.. so now its sold..
my girlfriend got the Galaxy tab 2 7" that came with our ES8005 and it grows after i got used to the screen size..
now I'm considering the NEXUS 7 because it's more powerful and like the rubber feel backside..
only downside is that if i look trough XDA NEXUS 7 forum it seems that there is A LOT of problems with it..
So i ask all of you NEXUS 7 users, how is it ??
on GSMARENA.com the music part get som hard words is it really that bad ?? i won't use it for music that much..

I have both the nexus7 wi fi and the nexus 7 3g no problems what so ever with either ,the 7 3g will be amazing when(hopefully)
the devs get the phone to work
I'm very happy with my tab and after rooting its even more wonderful. Also i always prefere an open system before iOS.
But maybe thats just me.
The build quality is amazing for that price imho.

I had a launch 16 gig nexus 7 with no problems, now I have a new 32 gig nexus 7 with no problems.
I have no problems with my N7.

I can't say a bad word about my 32gb, updated to 4.2 and its fine even with another user account. I play music from Google music over Bluetooth home theatre and it sounds great.

For starters, there aren't alot of problems with it. The only issue is that the left side of the screen has some weird screen lift. It isn't noticeable unless you look at it at an angle and are really looking for it. Not all have this problem and it seems to be corrected in the newer units with the exclusion of 2 screws (the culprits).
Other then that, it is a great tab. Hardware wise, the N7 is vastly superior. The rubberized back is awesome.
Plus the iPad Mini is retarded. It isn't that much smaller then a regular iPad 4 that is a much better buy if going the iPad route.
I've owned an iPad1 and iPad2 (trying to diverse) but found that Apple products aren't very productive and useless outside of media consumption. I can get the same satisfaction out of my Android Tab with the benefit of actually using it for work. Once I had my fill of a few Apple specific games, I started to use it less and less and less. To the point where it would just sit on the charger for days without use. My Nexus 7 gets it's use. I use it interchangeably with my phone so much that my phone lasts MUCH longer and my N7 is needing a charger by midnight (from 8am). All of the games, surfing, XDA, facebooking, tweeting, etc is done on the N7. My phone is for calls, emails, and SMS/Chatting. Both are happy.
It is also very nice to have an Android phone and tablet since you can bounce between both using similar apps and really marry them with some great apps. DataSync automatically keeps my app data in sync, so my game saves are constant on either device. Apps and Games I buy for my tablet also work on my phone without a separate purchase. I use WiFi Tethering with my 4G Galaxy Nexus to keep them both on the same network with internet access. When Tethered, I can also use WiFi File Explorer to share files from either device.
Awesome experience. The small size of the N7 is really great. I came from a 10" Asus Transformer and I love the pocketable size. It fits in a coat pocket to free my hands or stows in a glove box.
I use a Portenzo Book Cover case and it's great.
I love my 32GB N7 had it for over a week and it's a dream to use, add the Tablet Talk app that's available from the Play Store and you can use it as a fully functional phone (but you have to tether to phone over WiFi or Bluetooth, and calls are routed through the phone speaker/microphone).

What's the point of using N7 as a phone if you have to tether it to your existing phone?
I have been using my N7 since launch had 0 problems! I love this tablet!

Well SMS is one possible benefit. When you are laying on the couch surfing on your N7 and your phone is on the charger across the room... sucks to get up. I keep my phone stuff separate from my tablet stuff though, but I can see several cases where it would be useful.
Phone calls basically works with having a bluetooth headset and essentially using the tablet as a "remote" to answer/decline calls from your phone.
At least this is my understanding.
Regardless, this is still a great benefit for having paired an Android Phone/Tablet.

At this point, just get another Mini. Google is showing that they can't even be assed to support their own flagship devices, and continue shipping out updates with broken Bluetooth and WiFi. These are not the actions of a company who cares about their customers.

I don't know, I only use the app to text from as it's quicker than having to pick my phone up to reply to a text, and the bigger screen makers it easier to type than on the small keyboard of my Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S.

They've said that they will be releasing a fix for 4.2 before December. That it's in 3days. They would be insane to not care about customers and to say get an iPad because the nexus update has a few problems that they are working on is not helpful really.

They released 4.2.1 today, the update you are talking about, and it has fixed a whole bunch of NOTHING in regards to critical systems. Woohoo, I can set a birthday but I can't use my bluetooth devices, and if I try the screeching and popping and skipping make them worthless.
So excuse me, but I am a long time Nexus owner and Android enthusiast. The changes they have made to the BT stack were unwarranted and unneeded as of 4.1, so why did they do it? I would be out of a job if my change control process were this piss poor.
Return that crappy ipad mini and pocket that extra kroner on a nexus 7. One thing you might miss is the back camera which is useful for barcode scanning, pdf scanning and other apps like that (for actual photos, it's silly though)

Interesting to hear the comments trashing 4.2 and Google in other threads and then you come to this thread and no one is having issues. I got my Nexus 7 on last Friday and have stayed at 4.1.2 based on the flaming 4.2 is getting.
Not sure what to believe.

Okay I finally decided I'm going to buy a tablet and I think the Nexus 7 is the one to get.
Couple quick questions...
It's primary usage is going to be as a PDF reader so I can read my books on it and highlight the PDF documents. With that said, is the 7" a decent size for this or should I go with a larger 10" model? In addition, I'm going to want to use a stylus pen to highlight with rather than my hand. With that said, what's the best option to buy as an aftermarket pen? I'm likely going to purchase the ezPDF program for this function. Good app or is there a better one out there?
Thirdly, I'll use it for multimedia playback as well. Does it have a limitation on file size (e.g. 4GB limit) or can I drop a 12GB MKV file on it and have at it (or does it need to be split up?). Thanks.
If the Nexus 7 doesn't fit the bill for these things do you guys have any other recommendations on a tablet? I'm not looking to break the wallet on this one so the 32GB seems to be where I'm aiming at the moment.

I have the 7in and the reason I was even looking at the Nexus 7 to begin with is due to it's PERFECT size as a reader. IMO, a 10 is way too big to carry around with you everywhere and hold in your hands to read. The 7in is about the same width and height of the average book and slips right into my bag to be used anywhere. As a student, I predominantly use mine for PDFs and books too, and it is PERFECT. Between the native reader and the office suite app, I have no problems loading or viewing PDFs, docs, or even power points. I've viewed 50page+ power points on this tablet with ease.
But, this is just my opinion of course. The best thing for you to do is hold both the 7 and 10 inch for yourself to see which best suits your needs.
I also watch plenty of tv show episodes I've torrented. My files have all played flawlessly. When turned in landscape, it's a really great size to watch movies and shows on. I have the portenzo bookcase which can turn into a stand and it makes for sick Sons of Anarchy viewing in crisp HD. :d

Firstly: the 7 is great for me, reading and also annotating. Ezpdf is good but I now prefer mantano pro.
Secondly don't worry too much about expensive pens for highlighting, I grab styluses from the pound shop here in the UK as my kids keep losing them and they work absolutely fine.
Thirdly I believe that the partition is formatted with the Linux ext filesystem (some one will correct me if I am wrong) so you shouldn't have any worries there.

And for reading, I find it very nice, I'm also a student, and I open a lot of PDFs. Screen is really sharp, and the 7" fits perfectly.. 10" is a bit too much for me to carry around, that's the reason I've got nexus instead of my old 10.1" netbook..
okay purchased two Nexus 7's. One for me (32GB) and one for the girlfriend (16GB). Hope it ships now it says "delivered in 3 - 5 days" and I'm out of town in 8 days...don't let me down Google!!! :silly:

I have tried many stylus.. Get a JOT PRO... it works better then anything else out there. Thou its not perfect its in my opinion the only real choice there is .

After reading this thread and some searching on XDA I went with the 8 stylus pens for $8.99 thing. This way I have a girl color one to give with the 16GB tablet.
Any quick pointers to threads I should glance at and things I should do with this device? Any good tablet specific apps or things I should be looking at?
I recently bought a hand stylus. It's a rubber tip pen but the tip is only 4mm thick. It's a bit steep at 30$, but I like the quality of it. And the tips are replaceable which is nice.
It can be hard to justify a $30 stylus when you can get 15 cheap ones for half the price on amazon, but I do love mine. Handstylus.com

I just really wanted the case (which ended up being my favorite out of the many I've gotten) but it came with a stylus. Now I'm a stylus user. The one it came with works great and the case has a pen loop for it which is even better. As for 7" or 10", I prefer 7. I've had many tablets including the iPad and the 10 is just too big. It starts to become a pain in the ass to carry it around after a while. There hasn't been a moment with the 7 where I wished I had a bigger screen.
I have had a couple of stylus but many of them have thick ends, ok to select stuff when on the net and stuff but to draw with or write they are also. I have been looking for one with a slim top more like a pen to write with but havn't settled on one yet.

Nexus 7, direct updates from Google, if your interested in development, there are guides written just for nexus. And now ubuntu.
But if your only using your Tablet like a Normal human get the TF300T because of the bigger screen.

Well, N7 has less problems with hardware, better software updates and more development - only reason for TF300 is 10 inch screen and a dock (=external harddrives with movies, mouse etc.)
In my opinion 7 inch tablets are a bit too little to surf, but if you think it's enough you should definitely go for a nexus 7

Depends what you want to use it for and what other devices you have. If you already have a smartphone then I dont see a reason to get the N7. I'm currently looking for a decent laptop replacement, so for the the TF300 is the clear choice.

I had this same dilemma during boxing week, but when the tf300 dropped to$280, I had to go for it. Bigger screen, great camera on the back, better camera on the front, sd card slot, and if you are comfortable with flashing roms it is easy to keep it up to date with the latest and greatest updates that Android has to offer.
It is a no brainer, nexus for sure. If you aren't the type who feels like flashing new Roms everytime a new version of android comes out, the nexus is perfect. What more can you ask for? It's a steal.

Well I have owned a TF700 and a Nexus 7 and it's a no brainer. The Nexus 7 has been sold!
The screen is too small for doing anything useful on the nexus 7. Web browsing is not good at all. It;s like using a large phone at times. I didn't enjoy the 7" format. Book reading was nice but other than that .. pah!
The only real benefits I found to the Nexus 7 were around portability. Other than that I would recommend the transformer every single time. It has expandable memory, larger screen, keyboard dock, ....
i'll chime in. i've got the tf300 and a friend has the nexus 7...if i were to do it over again, probably still get the tf300 because of the keyboard dock, love the battery life, full keyboard and bigger screen, i have a SGSII and it covers me when i need something portable, but for tablet i want it larger.
plus really looking forward to ubuntu touch on here as well, i think it could be awesome due to the dual nature of the dock and tablet, could be the best of both worlds, but we'll have options i guess
I had the same dilemma. I played with a nexus 7, it's good but it's too small for watching movies and web surfing. If you watch movies once a week maybe .... but watching frequently will be more difficult for your eyes.
I heard that some people were complaining about lags or so. Mine is really smooth . For the money I paid for it I'm more than happy - 299euros without the dock (they didn't had qwerty layout, only qwertz ).
I chose tf300 because of the bigger screen and external dock. It feels a little cheap here and there , but I would choose it again . Oh, yes, with the dock you also get support for ps3 and xbox controllers . Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I have both of these tablets and have to say that I use the Nexus 7 a lot more frequently. Its just easier to handle and play on if you are lying in bed holding the tablet up and whatnot. The asus TF300 is good for its keyboard, but I only find myself using it when I need it for school, writing a lot. So I'd say, if you aren't writing lengthy emails or essays or sketching with a stylus, then your best bet is the Nexus 7. The asus is good for creating content rather than absorbing, and I find that the TF300 is a bit laggy compared to the Nexus which is already running the latest version of android (4.2.2) and will get updates more frequently.
