I just downloaded a map from Sugarbush Ski mountain in Vermont so I'd have it handy when skiing there. Unfortunately, when I zoom in the image is so blurry that I can't really read the text. The same map looks fine on my desktop computer.
Unfortunately I can't post a link to the map because the XDA developer's site won't allow me to (you can't post links until you've made 5 other posts to the forum). Just google 'Sugarbush' and you will be able to find the static trail map image. Someone else who's been around here longer could post the link in a follow up message.
I've tried viewing it in multiple programs (standard browser, Dolphin browser, gallery view), and all show the same problem.
Can other Nexus one owners confirm that they have the same issue?
Any suggestions?
I think android might downsize/downconvert images automatically so you will not be getting the original resolution of the image.
UPDATE:I can confirm that the image is definitely lower resolution than the one that appears on desktop. Here is the link:
http://www.sugarbush.com/images/skiandride/trailmap0910large.jpg
I just mounted my Nexus via USB and checked the file that I'd downloaded to it. The actual file stored on the Nexus One is full resolution and displays fine on the PC. It's just on the Nexus that it fails to display well.
This seems more like a bug then a feature.
I just made a simple 2000x1000 graphic with two strings of text, one aliased and the other antialiased with a crosshatched background.

You can clearly see how blurry both lines of text and the crosshatches are when you zoom in on the android browser or in the gallery. It looks like there is either a huge amount of compression being applied to the image, or that the image is being resized for viewing and the blur effect is due to a loss of detail that you don't get back when you zoom in.
I don't know if imageshack has a bandwidth limit, but here is the same image on imgur.com. You can see the extra effects of blurring, though you also see a lot of jpeg artifacting from the high compression imgur apparently automatically applies.

* sorry for the broken links. Despite having joined 2+ years ago, my low post count prevents me from posting urls. If anyone else can repost those links as real urls, it would be great.
so whenever i want to view an image at full res I can't I always had this suspicion when viewing stuff on the net and zooming in it just didnt look anywhere near a nice as on my pc (or windows mobile phone)
I just sent myself an email with an image (png) high res (2xxx by xxxx) the image is a map with lots of small images and text on it, when viewed on pc you can read all text just fine but on the phone its looks terrible (at least with default image viewer and the image viewers I have downloaded)
Whats going on?
I remember reading somewhere before that the phone can only display/render upto a certain amount of pixels regardless of how large your image is.. Also I notice on the default gallery viewer when you swipe around fast the image is ultra pixelated and have to wait for about 1-2 seconds.
This is really annoying. I don't think there is a fix at least that I can find. What a shame our powerful phones can't do what older phones can. Is it an android fault you think?

quite a shame endeed...
also when pinching into pics inside the gallery app, it won't load the full pix map
So I have been looking for a fix, b&b gallery does render the full image which is nice but not sure about browser. Do any of the browsers for android render full images or are all the same?

Hi,
Has anyone found a browser that allows you to read the on line archives of the New Yorker magazine? The built in browser only shows part of each page and does not let you move the screen around to see the rest of the page. Have tried all the UA strings but no joy.
I did find that I could read using the Dolphin browser as long as I use the URL of archives.newyorker.com/ipad and set the UA string to ipad though the display is still less than ideal. Sometimes portrait mode single page display shows the full page but reduced in size to about 75% of normal so it does not fill the screen and the type is quite small. Other times it does actually fill the screen but has a flashing white bar at the bottom.
Perhaps someone who is more familiar with Dolphin can suggest what adjustments to the settings in Dolphin will optimize the view. I'm perfectly happy using the built in browser for everything but the New Yorker and Dolphin for only the New Yorker if I could just get it to display clearly on a consistent basis. In Dolphin's page content settings, I have text size set to Large and Default Zoom set to Medium. I switched the ipad applet settings so that portrait mode shows a single page - just wish I could get rid of the flashing white line at the bottom.
On the other hand, clearly the people at the magazine don't care about Android users since the display in most Android browsers has been garbled since the first time I checked, a year or more ago but they were quick to jump on the iApple tablet bandwagon with a page optimized just for the iApple. Even the archives on DVD don't display properly when saved as a PDF since they're actually djvu files so I can say New Yorker hasn't exactly been technology-savvy or else they just want to keep selling dead-tree magazines even though they finally have a chance to ditch the paper, ink, and distribution/postage costs with a digital model if they could just embrace modern browsers and tablets.

I had update EeePad to Honeycomb 3.2,
and test some issues in 3.1.
Every thing is so fast now.
I can sure some bugs had been fixed :
1. 90 and 180 degree in home screen is such smooth now
2. Music beta idle when screen off does not appear
3. Stock browser does not show white block when scrolling
4. Youtube plugin works well in stock browser (just testing 720P ...)
5. WEBSTORAGE UI update
6. Some apps are out of screen when scaling up
7. Stock weather widget shows the last update time (but it is real ugly ...)
8. Browser input lag is STILL there ~
so on...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After charging the battery to FULL in office, I went home.
Until now, my EeePad walked through two states :
1. Suspend mode -> 2 hrs 30min (just screen off)
battery : 100% -> 100%
2. Crazy running -> 2 hrs 20min (web, youtube, music, MV, drama, RSS, FB, ...)
battery : 100% -> 83%
Both these two states are with wifi on.
Seems that 8 hrs continue working is possible for 3.2.

You got the OTA update tonight? Is that what I am reading? What is your location? Thanks!

edit: He beat me to it, lol.
I'd love to know the Splashtop (MyCloud) and PressReader versions. Also is the text selection bug in the stock browser resolved? And are the physical SD and MicroSD cards still writeable?
the splashtop is running the same old version unfortunatey, 1.00.something
one more different thing is the mouse cursor is now a circe instead of the pointer,
and you can do scroll and pinch to zoom using the trackpad now,
its not quite smooth as i like it to be tho
sometimes the machine confuses the two action so becomes a big more laggy

The exact version number is quite important. Asus' Splashtop builds don't match the version numbering of the retail builds. They've made significant changes in past Asus releases with very modest version number changes.
Can you please confirm is the version number still v1.0.0.10-4 r8520? That's the build supplied with the latest OTA patch two weeks ago.
just updated to TW 3.2 and wanted to share for all dock owners
Theres a new "pointer" feature when using the trackpad; basically a circle pointer is on the screen instead of the arrow cursor
Basically it functions the same but gives more area to click?
Also when scrolling webpages with the trackpad, they inverted the direction so moving 2 fingers down now scrolls up and 2 fingers up scrolls down; which ANNOYS me so much, hope they revert it back.
EDIT: PINCH TO ZOOM added on trackpad
However its hard to scroll the pad when the trackpad keeps thinking you want to pinch to zoom
EDIT 2: Scrolling on trackpad better if you use two fingers as close to each other, further apart would make the trackpad recognize as pinch to zoom
that sucks

Gah why can't they just make these things user-configurable? I can 100% guarantee I will not be able to get my head around that, because it is the exact opposite of my laptop touchpad.
youtube app search box bug while playing video still exists, i.e pressing space while in search box while in video playing menu highlights the the other featured videos instead
Hey there,
what about "Battery usage data" in "about tablet"? Is it still not available?
Thanks for info about OTA, will be waiting patiently

To be honest, i think it is more intuitive now because now it scrolls in the same way you would scroll on the tablet screen. But then, i didn't own a laptop to confuse me Just wanted to say i can see why they did revert it.

Is available for me, on 3.1. Guess the "mystery update" caused so.

Yeah, I can certainly understand that some folks prefer it that way. As I said a couple of months back, it's a bit like mouse look in gaming, though. It's something you can't relearn. I started off in gaming with flight simulation, and I learned that forward on the yoke means descend, backwards means climb. I've tried over and over for years to play first person shooters with the opposite directions, but I just can't do it -- the flight sims built something in my brain that expects inverted look.
And that is why Asus shouldn't be forcing a decision like this on us. Some folks will want the scrolling one way, some the other, and for most, they'll never be able to learn to change. Asus needs to make this a user option, and let the user decide what works, because otherwise they're going to have a significant proportion of their users unable to scroll with the touchpad, and feeling like they've been let down.

It's not available for anybody else, so I don't think it's available for you either. My guess is you're not aware what folks are talking about.
We're not talking about the screen where you get an indication of battery consumption alongside hardware status (battery charging, gps use, wifi use, etc.)
On the screen *before* that one, you should get an indication of battery life alongside which individual apps were running, so you can see which apps are using the battery life up.
That works on other tablets. It doesn't (and never has) on the Transformer.

Exactly. Even iCompany gave an option to revert trackpad behavior to "less natural"...
Can anyone else confirm that Battery usage statistics are working? Because on my stock EU TF101 they're broken since first 3.1 OTA. :/ TIA!
Hong Kong already got the updated Android 3.2 with full screen and smooth HD video.

Fantastic. Thanks for that.
Has anyone found out whether it's fixed the the problem with apostrophes showing as HTML entities in the email client?
I just got a Nexus 10 and I'm considering returning it because of all the crashes. (At least twice a day since I got it.) But I'm even having trouble finding a good browser. Does anyone else find they have these problems, or is it just me? Opera was my favorite browser on A100, but its unusable now.
In chrome mobile if you click anywhere near the X button (on a tab), the page will close. Chrome also causes tablet crashes. (Chrome is the stock browser on my tab.)
Boat takes up high battery
Dolphin - clicking on a tab closes the tab
Opera buttons/menus are so tiny it can't be used.
Firefox (regular And beta) - parts of or the whole screen goes black sometimes. (Resizing the page fixes it.) Requires effort to scroll fast. Some images don't ever load, like on Google images (middle of page). No speed dial or even a way to organize bookmarks. Previous session tabs don't reload automatically.
Maxthon - maxthon tablet - sometimes no links work, tab fonts too large
I'm using Firefox mostly, but don't like it for above reasons.
Not a browser but, my favorite keyboard on my a100, Thumb keyboard - if i click near the top edge of the comma key, I get an apostrophe. (Rt. Side) also, it becomes erratic sometimes, like cursor jumping to the wrong places.
Do you have these issues, or did I get a bad Nexus? Thanks.
I still would like to hear if anyone is having these troubles on the Nexus 10, but I think I found happiness with Ocean Browser. I'm already familiar with it because it came pre-installed on my Acer A100, but I don't think they ever gave the name. It was re-branded or something. Glad I found it again. About the only thing it's lacking is the ability to rearrange bookmarks on the screen. But you can use folders. I think I found the winner.
