Former HD2 owner has a few questions... - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hey guys,
I've been an HD2 owner for a year in 2011 and regret selling it for an Atrix. I'd like to buy an HD2 again but I've got two questions regarding Android :
- Has the "no sound" bug in CM7 and MIUI been solved for good ? When I was using it, it would happen that pciking up a phonecall would give a "ssshhh" sound that needed a battery pull to be fixed.
- How are ICS and JB running in terms of speed ? The jump from Gingerbread to ICS on the Xperia Ray I got which has somewhat similar performances was painful. With more than 20 apps installed, you would really feel the hardwarde limits. Is this the case for the HD2 ?
Thanks !

I've tried like 50 ROMS & so far the better ones are running from NATIVESD, almost most of the roms normal features are running fine now & your good to go.
have a look at the links below & see how it goes.

[Q] What does Android run like on HD2

Hi Guys I am after some answers:-
I was interested in the HTC Desire HD and did not realise that the HD2 could dual boot so run WM6.5 and Android and from what I have read Android runs off the SD card so I have a few questions:-
1) How does Android run pretty much flawless....slow...buggy and only 720p recording doesn't work everything else does?
2) Anyone have a Desire, Desire HD and HD2 for comparison ?
3) What ROM is most like the desire HD I like the interface on that.
4) Can you sync outlook calender with HD2 Android ?
I am no stranger to flashing I have always had windows phones and flashed custom cooked roms and spl's so from what I have read up I will be ok to set this up myself.
thanks in advance.
It's not very stable yet but you can live with it if you don't mind a few battery pulls a day.
Thanks for the response so you would say that if I want a stable/smooth Android then go for the Desire HD or Galaxy S ?
I am on contract with T-Mobile at the moment and the Desire HD is out of stock and they can't tell me when it will come back into stock they have stock of the Galaxy which I here is due a Froyo 2.2 upgrade soon so the HD2 would have been the best of both worlds for me having WM and Android.
If you want pretty stable android, get native Android phones. If you want to have fun and have the choose to dual boot into Android,wm7, and megoo, get the Hd2. As far I'm aware, Android runs pretty damn nice on this babe. No major issues what so ever..

If you mainly want android and want it stable, go with the android phone. I'd wait for the desire HD if I were you. A 4.3 inch screen is great to have. But if you think you actually want winmo and will actually use it, then you might want to look at the hd2. Android runs decently on the hd2 ... its good for a port, but it will probably never be as stable as a native android phone. It takes a lot of work, research, and trial & error to tweak the hd2 to get android running well, but most people can get it running pretty well with some work.
If I were you, I would wait for the desire HD... it has the most ram, a big screen like the hd2, but with newer hardware and better multitouch than the hd2.

Not very stable? A few battery pulls a day? Complete bull**** if you have a somewhat recent build & kernel. There are some minor issues left, but Android on HD2 is certainly usable on a daily basis. If however you have the cash (and are willing to pay) then of course the HD will provide a (slightly) better Android experience, since it's native.
Thanks Atoore, well I really want it for the app store, games etc so I take it that works fine ? and to have best of both worlds really windows and android.
Can you get Wm7 on the HD2 already ? thats anther bonus !
I just got text saying my Desire HD will be with me in a few days but my plan was to sell it BNIB on ebay then pick up a HD for probably half the price for a very similar phone !
Anyone got any views on this ? who has gone Desire to Hd2 or HD2 to Desire ?
Thanks again guys.

Thanks Stephen what build are you running or would recomend ?
I saw a guide someone wrote back in july for best wm6.5.3 and android but no doubt there has been great progress since then ?
I am running Mdeejay_FroYo_Sense_v._2.3_Clean for a while now (5 days) and have no issues whatsoever. (battery life remains bad though)
I have been using Android on the HD2 for about 3 weeks now. I had some issue in the first couple of days until I found a good ROM that just works. but after that, I can't really say I have anything to complain about!
The device used to hang a little in the first few days, but the cause was mainly some of the apps I used.
I did not really use WM since I got Android running on my HD2. it's certainly much nicer experience!
I have been using this ROM for quiet some time now with minimal issues
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780525
If you have custom ROM on your HD2, then all you need is make sure that this ROM supports Android (most of them do), then download the files to your device and run Android... that's it.
As for outlook calendar, AFAIK, you can sync it with Google calendar, then this will be synced to your device (you need Google account to set up your HD2)
I would say, go for it and give it a try, it's very different from WM
My honest opinion is its more the fun in it, initially I had battery pulls and screens of death but know that I have my radio right and rom right, and honestly the only reason I've shut it down was due to dead battery or replacing the kernel, from what I've heard the battery life in the desire be isn't great, neither is android on the hd2, but its drastically cheaper and its a learning experience.... do it

I am in the same boat as OP.
From what I have read, ROMs like Froyostone are totally solid.
People are claiming that it runs totally fine, with almost no issues at all.
I'm thinking of buying an HD2 just to run Android as my daily phone.
Would you not recommend this? I know the older roms were buggy, but from what i read it runs as good as a Desire (original).
Are people bullsh*tting? or is it really that good now?
I recently bought a HD2 just to run android.
Ive been using android on it for a few days and I gotta say its pretty good. Its not perfect, you do get some freeze ups, though they only last for a few seconds. Ive had some data drops, since then Ive installed the fix and it seems to be working fine now.
I know Id rather have the HD2 than the desire, the big screen is awesome.

As already mentioned: That's just completly bull****.
I'm running and upgrading my AndroidHD2 every few weeks since this summer and the first FroyoStone releases and pretty much all builds have become totally perfect, especially the desire builds.
I was running MDJ FroYo Sense Revolution v.1.6 until 1.7 was released this week and got freaking 3 days and 21 hours of battery life, that's almost a 400%+ compared to the days I was running WinMo 6.5.
If you're having fun to do stuff with your phone, tweaking it, installing new things and so on go for HD2, since its at 400$ atm I think.
If you just want a working phone and don't want to care about such stuff get the Desire HD oder whatever you like.

There is no best combo, people get all kinds of different results even with the same setup. It's probably due to different SD cards, not too sure on that though. It's going to take you a few days to figure out what's good for you, but once you have your WinMo build and Radio good, probably every Android build will run just fine, leaving stuff up to your own taste. Coming from an HTC Magic, I really liked Cyanogenmod so I'm running all kinds of CM-based roms (currently JDMS 1.5, it's the most recent one). If you like Sense, MDJ's builds are probably your best shot.
But again, there's no guide on what is best. If you feel like experimenting a bit, you're gonna have a good time, but if you want a 'no hassle' phone go for the Desire (HD). I bought my HD2 especially for Android btw, found it for about €250 on ebay (unlocked), while a desire would be at least 400 for inferior hardware.
So its totally sweet then.
Wicked.
It's a great deal, especially as the desire has battery life issues, I don't see the advantage ?

There's a reason HD2 prices on ebay have started increasing recently (at least in the UK) and it's because news is spreading about what can be done on it and what is in the pipeline. I only use Android on my HD2 and have done for two months now, Only reason I know what WinMo Rom I've got on my phone is cos it's listed in my sig lol.
Recent builds have gotten so stable I can't remember the last time I had an app crash on me, the market is flawless, I get very few data drops (and they don't last long either), camera is as good as under WinMo (5MP in other words) and very few other niggles. The main thing some peoples complain about is battery life, but that's only because they don't calibrate the battery properly (have your battery at 100% when you install a build and it will be fine tho).
I wanted a new Android phone but couldn't really afford a Vibrant, etc.
I decided to get the HD2, and I do not regret it. I use one of Darkstone's rom, and I've never had major issues with it.
I had some battery life issues, so I changed toHastarin's 8.2 kernel with Overclocking and Undervolting, and that solved my battery problem. I could get 2 days of light use if I wanted to, but I always use it a lot. With normal use I usually have 30-40% battery at the end of the day. With heavy use, I sometimes have to plug it in after about 12 hours of use, but that's rare.

i have to agree with the other posters, that is bull. i use mccm build and i never had the need to pull the battery. if hd2 is far cheaper than desire hd and you prefer to save some money, i'd strongly consider hd2.
Im complety newbie in the android stuff....
first i buy HD2 only from WinMo...
but after i found so many fantastic build in XDA, im using android as daily for about a month now...
sure, it takes little bit working n searching.....
but for me, thats the beauty of it....
For now, i already found a couple build that i thought perfect enough, no lag or whatsoever....
but i still keep trying the other builds, just to see the difference...
sorry for my bad english........

Considering a HD 2.

I'm considering buying a HD 2 exclusively for Android. However i've read a lot about the g sensor and don't really want to take the plunge and end up not having working games etc.
I'd be buying second hand so no chance of returning if it doesn't work. It seems the android roms run just as good as native otherwise than the few with the above problem.
Can anyone confirm this or are there still issues with it being a WinMo handset?
In some beta phased ROMs auto rotation can have some problems. But this is a small percentage of all ROMs so don't be afraid, I didn't have this issue.
I have already tested about 10 different ROMs.
Go for it. As far as android on hd2 goes, well is as good as a native android, some of the roms here are amazing and work flawlessly. Even if HTC & Google tried to cook a rom for this phone now, it probably wont be as good as some of the roms here;-).
G sensor issues were resolved months ago. The only thing that someone might complain about is some auto rotation issues that only affect a handful of roms, but can be fixed using a different launcher.
Depending on the build you choose, android runs just as good, and in most cases waaay better than WM ever did. I bought my phone about 7 months ago, and only ran WM the first week I had it.
The HD2 is very easy to mod, and all of my friends love my phone, a couple have even gotten it because I showed them all the possibilities on them. And they are really happy they did.
If you have the opportunity to get one, I'm sure they are relatively cheap now since most people dont know about the massive community support for them and WM on them is pretty bad.

I had a similar question to ask see my situation is that I have a Nexus One and I want a HD2 but I don't have the money to flat out purchase one because currently I'm not working due to being laid off.
I was thinking of trading my Nexus One for a HD2.
Now my question is what do you guys think, should I do the trade?
Hows the battery life now with the HD2 running on Android?
I remember reading last year on XDA that the battery life wasn't too good, have things changed with better roms.
Do you think it's even worth trading or should I just keep my Nexus One?
Any or all replies will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Its a win win both ways, both are really great phones
sometimes i wish i have kept my nexus because of the sleek and sexiness of it but most of the times i love my hd2
i bought a hd2 because i really wanted to try out WP7 also, right now i have WP7 and android dual booted and it is amazing
if you want to stick to just android, i think the nexus would be better (considering that the giant screen difference doesnt make a difference)
----
Bought an HD2 about a month ago and Android runs flawlessly on it. I had a Samsung Captivate last year and this performs every bit as well as that did aside from gaming (Hummingbird is a beast compared to the 1st Gen Snapdragon).
Haven't had any issues with games so far. Currently running the TyphooN CM7 ROM but have also used Hyperdroid CM7, Ultimate Droid and the official MIUI. All excellent, fast ROMs.
I bought the phone a year ago thinking I was going to be stuck on WinMo 6.5 forever. This is by far the coolest phone I've ever had.
I also had a similar question about this, I'm thinking about trading my vibrant for an hd2, but I'm not sure if it's a good trade or not, my friend has an hd2 and it was awesome! What would you do?
I second the above praise. The HD2 came out on Feb. 16th in 2010. There is not one other phone that came from then that is as current now. I am running NexusHD2-Gingerbread V2.6 and love it. Very happy I got it.
the only problem for me is multitouch is really annoying when playing fps. It seems when 2 touches get close to aligning on either the x and y axis it become problem, so when I playing nove, sandstorm suddenly my person will turn around 180 degree. really annoying other than that no complain at all. best device I ever had, no regret buying this product LOVE HTC, next device would be htc sensation or htc EVO 3D

Is there a special procedure to install this game?

[Q] Advice please! Last ROM to be loaded!

First off a big thank you to all the devs and forum members who have made owning a HD2 such a joy these past couple years. Easily the best phone I've eve owned.
My question
I recently upgraded my wife to a Galaxy Tab. We live in Thailand and my T-mobile HD2 has never worked quite right here so I will be sending it back for my daughter (11 y.o.) to use in the USA. I will be taking my wife's Asian HD2 for a daily phone. My daughter wont be able to upgrade ROM's.
My question to the forum is...what would be the best, most stable daily ROM for the T-mobile phone going back to the USA. In other words, if you knew you could only flash one more ROM and that had to last the lifetime of the phone, what would it be? I am leaning towards a GB ROM due to the stability issues I am experiencing with ICS (Paranoid atm) but I am open to any recommendations.
Thank you.
id say you were right on the money with a GB rom, , ics is fairly stable, but not quite there yet. Id also stay away from sense roms, they look lovely, but will possibly make the phone feel a little sluggish to an 11 yr old, comparing it to her friends.
a CM7 rom, would be my suggestion, something like typhoon.
stability= hyperdroid rom
I reccomend you to stay away from the Sense, MIUI etc. roms. My all-time stabilty favourite is Nexus HD2, version 3.2a. It's a clean Android 2.3.7 rom. It litteraly never crashed on my EU HD2.

What is an 11-years old girl supposed to do with a smartphone. When I was that age, I couldn't even dream about one!

I agree i never had a phone until i could pay for it myself xD but hey all my friends had them, granted they were stick phones but they still had them. I just hope she doesnt use it for wrong things :/ i know too many of my friends who got in trouble for sending inappropriate things to guy friends. Makes me wonder what this world is coming to.. i hate it.
However!
ON TOPIC :S
I actually would recommend a MIUI ROM considering many younger kids have the iPhone, and MIUI is a lot like it. Simply put, i think it would be easiet for her to use. Where as CM7 has so many options for things that she may not even know how to navigate around, but since i dont know her she may be smarter than me xD i would say its up to what your daughter likes, does she like customability, or does she like ease of use? Plus ive never seen many posts about people struggling with MIUI roms (i.e. random crashes bootloops etc) So there are my two cents
+1 to MIUI. I only used it for a short while, but the UI was very slick compared to CM7. Would be ideal for a younger child.

load some apps & customize it first before giving it to her.
thx!
I will try out the nexus for a few days then the miui for a few days and see what works the best. Thanks for the advice.

[Q] Thinking about the HD2, opinions?

Hello everyone, I just recently lost my phone and im officially back on the market for a new smartphone. I was wondering what everyone thinks about the HTC HD2. I haven't seen any good reviews on youtube--at least not specifically running on Android... Can anyone give me some input?
HTC HD2 originally runs on Windows (which im not used to) but it seems pretty similar to android according to some youtube videos [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neQ_iFf4s2Y]
So what do you guys think? If I do get the HD2.. should I flash it to ICS? Jellybean? Gingerbread? Or just stick with the windows? And if I do flash it.. does it compromise the speed?
Thank you for your help!

Depending of the price you are going to buy one, this is still the greatest phone made by HTC.
You can flash whatever rom you want, ICS and JB run smooth.
The HD2 is THE allrounder smartphone ever made
Great Hardware and open for multple Operating System
You should flash android anyway
There are very good ICS and JB roms out there
I for myself sticked to GB roms (MIUI GB Version most of the time i had one) because the camera was running much better
then in the ICS or JB roms and that never got fixed.
Its a great phone
Here in Hamburg / Germany the phone cost between 120€ and 200 € depending on its condition
Hope that helps you

The HD2 supports a wide variety of operating systems: Windows Mobile 6.5, Windows Phone 7, all versions of Android, Ubuntu, Maemo... If you like wasting time flashing your phone, then the HD2 is definitely the best choice.
The most stable Android builds so far are still the Gingerbread ones, but JB is not bad either. Developer interest for the HD2 is slowly decreasing, but there are still a few builds out there that get regular updates.

if you are capable of a slightly-more-technical-than-most-phones flashing process, and want a technical toy with roms and options and possibilities that may or may not be running 100% correctly, may have a glitch or two here and there, but gives you as much freedom as you can cope with, then get a HD2.
As to what you should flash, , flash everything, if you like a rom, use it, if you don't, change it.
If you want a 100% android phone and are only interested in maybe skinning up a rom, changing icons, installing apps, then get an android phone.
The HD2 has great xda support, it really is one of the best. However, I would not consider the HD2 unless you could get it for really cheap
HD2 Pros
Great xda support with tons of different OS
No really, I will only buy Nexus phones now because i was spoiled on how great the support was for the HD2... It seemed no other phones reached the level of HD2 (for andriod)
HD2 Cons:
Hardware buttons do not last very long (~year) and I much prefer software/touch buttons.
Outdated hardware. EX: Galaxy Nexus is much faster/refined
Other issues that may or may not have been fixed since i last used the HD2:
Corrupt blocks causing random crashes
Bad Multi-touch (sucks for games)
Battery life kinda sucked

Advices/suggestions, if you may?

Hello to all...
I'm working some months by now, in a mobile games developing company (for both iOS & Android).
So, I had to own both OS' devices, to testing my work of our games (in the devices); I bought a used iPhone 4 16GB and now I need to buy an Android one. I've checked and a nice 'n cheap Android's choice is about $150 or so.
Well, I thought to use my former device, a TMobile USA HD2, to port a NAND Android rom.
The problem is, I stopped dealing with my ex-HD2 since I had ported the "Energy" WM6.5...
So, I don't know what's the process to port a NAND Android rom - I mean a modern one, a new build.
Also, I need a suggestion for such a rom; I want a very stable & fast one, "all-in" rom. I don't want to deal with the Android, I won't start searching for apps and such - just I need a fast/stable/"completed" Android device, to install our games there and checking my work.
Kind regards to everyone who likes to help me on this issue.
Hello and welcome,
First, please use a descriptive title
The HD2 is quite an old device, so if you are to build heavy games, don't expect them to run on the HD2, or at least run well.
As for the ROMs, almost all the roms on the first page (ICS) are fully working, just make sure to double check the first few posts to know what's going on. And you can find how-tos almost everywhere, a quick search on google/youtube will help you.
Good luck in everything .
Thxs for your answer.
M8, I'm working on CASINO's games. Therefore, are not so "heavy".

If you want a complete rom try Tytung NexusHD2 Ics 4.0.4 rom.
It is the best rom you will get for tmous hd2.
I am using the same rom and very happy with it. :good:
I did, thxs - but not the "HD", the "ice-cream" of him.
The other one is more "new", maybe more slow for the "good-old" HD2.
