Hello I'm new to the android hack community I've been using android devices for 2+ years now and I been always scared to root because I don't want to void my warranty or brick my device because I don't have the extra cash to dish out for a new handset thanks happy new year.

Ok thanks for that... wrong section.

I don't know........should you? I say no, because if you cant follow XDA rules then you most likely cant follow directions and will brick your device. Please re-read the XDA rules and don't post questions in the development sections.

Why did you created 2 threads for asking some basic instruction already posted all over the forum?
Go to your device forum and READ this 2 threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480521
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529361
...and be happy I replied to you!

[Explanation]For Newbies

1-There's no way a phone brick by just rooting
2-If phones manufacture date is above than 11W29, don't try to unlock it.
3-If u have the will to unlock bootloader in devices 11W29+, then do it at ur own risk.
4-some persons already unlocked their bootloader who's has manufacture date 11W29+. If a member of XDA told u to u can unlock bootloader 11W29+, anyone can't complain or scold or about him. Because trump card has users own hand.
5-If the phone got stuck in SE logo, don't worry it can fix by just flashing Stock rom using Flashtool
6-If phone get Hardbrick, when trying to unlock bootloader, any of us can't help to fix it. User have to take it to SE if still have warranty otherwise take it to a phone repairing shop.
7-Before posting or asking something, Please search first before posting
Thank You~~:good:
Welcome to XDA
Only for newbies...newbies
senior members also know this but newbie is just a newbie.
1. Yes you can. It's not common but there is a chance of brick.
And please, if you are going to make a serious thread, don't use "u" and "ur".

Did you read the beginners guide? First post in the general section? (before this was moved) before this new thread? It is in there. I recommend you start reading there and then ask questions.

Please familiarize yourself with the XDA rules...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?a=81
You have already broken many of them including posting a question (Q) in the General section and not using the search function.
Go to the Original Android Development section, search for LOKI, and read as much as you can.
Good luck.

Loki is the brother of Thor and the adopted son of Odin. He's really an Ice Giant, though, so be careful.

[Q] New to Nexus 7

up front sorry for all the noob questions....
I bought the nexus 7 from a co-worker, it was already rooted and loaded with CM 10.1.
I hear android images for 4.3 hit today, I don't want to loose root so what do I need to do?
About how long does it take CM to have 4.3 available?
Nobody knows. When source is released then the cm team will evaluate and attempt to merge the code.
Just wait patiently or learn how the entire system works and do it yourself.

You read everything you can. You obviously do not need to be trying to flash anything at this point or you will be back here asking how to recover your device. You need to spend at least a few days reading. As far as root goes, there is no method to root yet... It just came out.

Got any links on where to start?
The stickies in the general section and the QA section would be great places to start.

Will that's not quite true, I am on 4.3 and have root back with the new super user...
BUT, Russell, I agree with graydiggy. Read read read... There are stickies and info threads that tell how to root, unlock, flash.... Know how to do this before you go playing with new versions and CM night lies... and tempting as it may be, know enough beyond a "toolkit" to root, unlock etc... WUGFRESH has a nice tool but knowing is more than half the battle in this case... Enjoy CM 10.1 until you know enough, and they have 4.3 base... With some work, they will be about the same time...

MF3 Custom Recovery

Does anybody know a way to get custom recovery on the MF3 build? I've tried too manager and using the terminal emulator with a TWRP image. Neither have worked

1. Its pretty annoying. Questions belong in the questions and answers section, not general.
2. Again, pretty annoying as well with repeating mf3 questions regarding recoveries. Read this thread below:

Enjoy!
