[Fix/WalkAround] Use WiFi Tether On Jellybean Roms - Xperia Play General

Sorry if this in the wrong section.
Forever I've been trying to get the WiFi tethering to work on our Jellybean Xperia Plays. I have yet to see anyone who has got it to work so I figured I'd post my method.
First download the WiFi tether for root users:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether&hl=en
I spent a long time messing with the settings to finally access the internet. A lot of people were saying it wouldn't work or only in ad hoc mode. Not the case. I figured out I was able to "trick" the WiFi driver to enable tethering.
Simply under setting change the device profile to that of the Google Nexus One.
Leave the setup method on auto.
Make sure to tick WiFi driver reload and routing fix.
I also change the channel setting to auto.
Start up the WiFi tether and there you go! I used WiFi tether constantly for my pspGO and laptop when out on business. After updating to Jb ROMs the native tethering was broke but now there is a way.
Tested and working on my at&t xperia play 4G boot loader unlocked running cosmic dans turbo Jb kernel v9 and the fxp unofficial cm10 latest build.
Edit: just tested this method on TurboUi v4 with the Lupus v6 jb kernel and can confirm it working. Looks like there's our hotspot walk around for Jellybean ROMs.

Great find but think it should be in general or themes and apps, just not development

Ad hoc works fine any way but yes can confirm infrastructure works with these setting , tried this my self before but was no nexus one at the time thanks

True but some devices might not support ad hoc connection. And here's a thought for xplay jb devs, is the sources for the nexus ones WiFi driver/modules available and if so could they be ported/tweaked to compile with the xplay jb roms? Just a thought in finally getting the hotspot fixed. I'm not a developer of the android platform so please excuse me if that was a completely dumb question.

Thanks for the info, i could connect my tablet to my play using this method though i cannot test the data yet as my rom isn't working correctly anyway

Works like a charm for Xperia NEO L (Turbo kernel, CM 10.1 UNOFFICAL ROM). Had to use Wifi-driver reload, with inside tether script), not Wifi-driver reload 2 that requires SU.
However it's no longer on the Play store, instead go to http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/, download "wifi_tether_v3_3-beta2.apk", change device profile to "Google Nexus One", tick "Wifi-driver reload" (not Wifi-driver reload 2).

Adhoc
I have tried several patches/hacks to get the A500 to see my Moto Droid (original) using WIFI Tether and I can get it to see it but I get the Adhoc not supported yet message . Will this be included in a fashion, if you already answered that I am sorry but I did not see it in the list. Thanks in advance.

Any ICS based ROM with working WiFi tethering?

I've been installing and trying all the ICS based ROMs available here, but one of the features that I use almost daily isn't working reliable in any of them: WiFi tethering.
I have a red-lens Defy and everytime I install a new rom I wipe cache/dalvik/data and flash the required kernel as indicated (CM7/CM9). All the ICS based ROMs I've tried activate the WiFi tethering the first time, but subsequent activations do not work, It seems the WiFi driver hangs or something, because the only way to reactivate the tethering is by rebooting the phone.
Is there a solution to this problem? or is something that hasn't been addressed yet by ROM programmers?
FYI, my current ROM is Kang CM7.2 and tethering works everytime, smooth and easy!
Use wireless tether from the market. It's free and working with all ics builds. I'm using it too and it works very good.
And please, the next time you have a question, post it in the question/answer section.
Questions go in the Q&A section, not the Dev section

Thanks! I used Wireless Tether with some success on various roms (It hangs or doesn't work in some of them), but, I was trying to know if the inestability of the WiFi tether is from my phone or from a buggy implementation of it in the current available ICS roms.
This is the only thing keeping me from using ICS permanently in my phone.
Thanks for your answer!

FirefoxOS ported to Samsung Galaxy S2 (JellyBean 4.3)

I've finally opened the new official thread for this port:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2612940
Thanks!
Hi,
I've been working on supporting GT-I9100 for FirefoxOS with JellyBean 4.3. This is going to be the near-future for next FirefoxOS releases so thanks to the previous work done by CyanogenMod on porting this device to JB4.3, I could ported it to FirefoxOS.
I don't have "privileges" to create a new thread on i9100 development forum and announce there all the work I've done, so in the meantime I thought that someone here could be interested in testing it and helping
Right now, the only way to have an image and installing it on you device is building it by yourself, just follow these instructions: plus.google.com/117885749590235128300/posts/cH2qU1hcLEC

Hello,
I've currently no time to try compiling (and i had to uninstall my linux recently...) But I will definitely keep an eye on this thread and be happy to test when you succeed to provide a precompiled image (or when I get a little time to compile it myself)
That might be a silly question but is there any chance that it works white other aosp based rom like Paranoid Android ?
Thanks for your work !

Well, the dual boot can be extended to add other ROMs easily but it will take a lot of time to test them all so for now I'd stick with Cyanogenmod 10.2. Anyway, all my work is shared via github.com/atilag so any collaboration will be appreciated
I already provided a CWM installable .zip that you can find here: https : //mega.co.nz/#!0NUwEAxK!AQXMXzjmkQRiMvn6auQEEkN3sL8eOn0GFFXSRyXzdvE

Can you tell us what are the steps for installing this rom? Flash it via CWM? Is this a dual boot rom will it have JB in it, or do you have to flash it on top of JB? What features are functioning in Firefox? Calls, sms, WIFI?

Yes, this is a CWM installable .zip.
It is dual-boot in case you have installed CM10.2 on it. If you don't, you won't be able to dual-boot.
I wanted to reach the necessary post count to create an official thread on developers forums fot this port, so I just used this one as a preview... this is the reason cause there's no much more information about the port in this thread
Anyway, visit the link to my G+ post and you will have further instructions, I cannot post links yet, so build it yoursefl: plus.google.com/117885749590235128300/posts/cH2qU1hcLEC
What doesn't work:
* Graphic issues (some laggy)
* No mobile-data (it connects to 3G/HSDP networks but don't transmit data)
* No Camera
* No Bluetooth
I'm working on building a new version these days, so a new release would be available soon.

how to boot back into android
Hi Juan,
First of all thanks for the effort of porting Firefox to SGS2, I have successfully installed the zip file that you have posted and I have booted into Firefox. Like you mentioned no mobile data, no camera, no bluetooth. Voice call function ok. I have not managed to connect to a wireless yet. Can you tell me how to boot into android instead of firefox? I have installed the zip on top om CM 10.2 so dual boot should work.

Hi, first of all, I opened a new ROM thread (and thus the official) for this port: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2612940
If you want to boot into CM10.2, you have to use adb this way:
adb shell cr.sh 1
This will reboot the phone in this very moment, and will boot into CM10.2.
skyrocket
I can't write on the official thread yet, you know how that is. Curious if anyone has tried the i727 skyrocket yet and what results. Thanks in advance.

Official MIUI V5 for ME860 and MB860

Hello XDA,
(I'm posting this link here because I don't have enough posts to reply to the [ROM] MIUI v5 3.7.19 English thread.)
I was browsing the English MIUI website today and found that the Motorola Atrix 4G was listed as a supported device! :victory:
Official ROM package: http://en.miui.com/download-48.html
Kernel update package: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/s1am14hv1463bse/kcTzU7sneq or do it yourself instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50270128&postcount=35
Basic soft keyboard: http://storage.evozi.com/apk/dl/13/...ard.apk?h=2w9QQkC1civRGTlZnZ_1kw&t=1393030263 (you'll need this, or another soft keyboard APK of your choice, because this ROM does not come with a soft keyboard!)
Google Apps package: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2482592 (search for "gapps core" on that page)
It's meant for the international version (ME860) but I think it should work it works on the US version (MB860) just fine.
Cheers.

Most of it seems to work, camera works, 1080P works on it, not sure about the Flash. Here is the status pages.
There is also an update on the updates page to 4.1.10 but I am not on WiFi. But all seems to work so far for me, I just can't figure out how to get the play store to work.
Also, it looks like it's actually for the MB not the ME.
Just a quick question since I'm a little lost. Miui is actually based on Android like CM right? So wouldn't it have the same bugs as cm 10.1? Like flash not working perfectly and stuff like that?

My Flash seems to not work, unless you auto focus, it won't trigger on it's own.
Edit, Correction, my horrible explanation of this, if Focus is set to auto in settings, it will Flash with Automatic Flash when it needs it. the Flash Seems to be extremely strong though.
Downloading now
will post results :laugh::good:

hi i never had any random reboots at all it was only the gapps problem
Taking a quick look at the source code of the kernel I noticed that the gpu is overclocked at 600mhz, could that be the cause of the reboots? I haven't got any reboot yet and I'm not a kernel expert so I can't assure that...
You can find the source code of the kernel here: https://github.com/shminer/android_kernel_motorola_olympus-jz

Nope, GPU is at 300Mhz.
I see, my bad. Thought it was by looking at tegra2_clocks.c and tegra2_dvfs.c :|
A bit offtopic but what application are you using to see the gpu frequency?

This one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600452
I tried the 4.1.24 release of this ROM (filename: miui_me860_santajin_4.1.24_2d6ed01966_4.2.zip) and it flashes correctly using ClockworkMod.
However, during first boot (after it optimizes 122 Android apps) it repeatedly shows the MIUI logo and pulses the LED with a red color.
Is this what is known as a "boot loop"?
Red light pulse usually means low battery. Try turning the phone off and connecting the wall charger for a few hours and then wipe and flash again

Thanks! I tried your suggestion and the red LED does not pulse anymore. :good:
But it still gets stuck in the boot loop after "optimizing" 122 Android apps.
Update: I did "reset factory user data" in CWM and now I get past the boot loop! :highfive:
Glad to hear you got it working

Now that MIUI was working, the next thing I needed was Google apps --- particularly the Play Store so I could install more apps.
I tried gapps packages from MIUI v5 ROM for Atrix 4G and epinter's CM 10.1 but they both had problems, such as the Play Store would force close.
Finally, I tried the gapps package from MIUI for Atrix HD (yeah, I know, it's a different phone) and it worked! :victory:
