[Q] Large icons - Omnia 7 General

Hey everybody.so i have this problem with my omnia thats piss me of each and every time.I can't make large icons.i can make it very small or normal but no large icons.what do you think people?
I use windows phone 7.8 and mi7Rom?
Thanks!

try the vanila or dynamic rom, the tile system is better then old mirom
anyway
only few apps have large tiles
system app like phone, mail, sms, zune, games, pictures have large tiles
few third party apps have it like facebook (new feature in the last upgrd), nokia drive and maybe music
i suppose that any app that were able to pin doubble tiles on 7.5 could be resized to large on 7.8 but they are really few and id like to know which these apps are

Thanks for reply man.I will try a newer rom.
Have a goog one

one background per desktop

hello,
my girlfriend has a sgs and she love it (i do love both of them ^^) but she tried to put some background images to the phone
ok its cool that the phone move to an other place of the image on each desktop
but is there a was to have one backgroud on each desktop?
I believe Sweeter Home has the feature, but like on a PC, its really annoying to have different backgrounds...
well, as long as there are no performance issues i can see how it can be useful.

Switch to Android or stick with WinMo? Reasons for and against...

Now most of us including myself have had the opportunity to try out the Android rom on our HD2, I was wondering if anyone was going to jump ship to Android or stick with WinMo on the HD2. I know there are already a couple of polls/threads on this subject matter but I thought it was about time somone listed the pros and cons for each OS and HD2.
Below I have listed what I believe to be the positives and negatives are (from my experience):
Android - Good Points
Fantastic app store selection
Refreshing UI from WinMo
Dedicated constant Google Android only apps
720p HD video recording (possible)
Compass Street View in Google Maps
ROM upgradeable OTA
Customisable
Good notifaction bar
Facebook/Twitter/Flicker Contacts intergration
My Location always works
Auto update notifications for installed apps
Better Youtube app with ability to view/leave comments
Live widgets
Live Wallpaper
Flash support in web browser
HTML and images displayed in email straight away with no "Download images" as per WinMO
Android - Bad Points
No Secure Box/Private SMS storage
Only 7 homescreens (possible 9 with 3rd party launchers)
Multiple email accounts not easily accessable from one screen
Poorer weather animations/transitions
No dedicated app exit button
No Face down Speaker Phone activation
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows Mobile - Good Points
13-18 homescreens
Weather Wallpaper
Excellent Secure SMS box
Customisable Home Screen/Tody view (Cookie's Home tab)
Access to several email accounts from Mail tab
Smoother weather animations
Animated photo and music landscape transitions/coverflo views
Document tab
Excellent developer community
Various roms - 6.5, 6.5.3, 6.5.5
Better office support
Windows Mobile - Bad Points
My Location rarely works
Inconsistant looking icons for apps
Old UI hidden under Sense
Can crash and freeze
Phone slows down when Twitter tab updates
Frustrating HTC keyboard
No flash support in browser
Internet Data Connection prone to freezing and stalling
Any other good or bad points? Will you switch?
a number one reason for sticking with hd2 for many people including myself has been its hardware, its 4.3 inches amazing screen. however, having just seen this http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/09/htcs-4-3-inch-desire-hd-shows-up-on-video/ - upcoming HTC Desire HD with Android 2.2, i think that would no longer be the case. HTC Desire HD is arguably the successor of HTC Desire. I wonder what HTC has up its sleeves as a successor of HD2
Sorry to say this, but a lot of the WinMo reasons are invalid since a lot of the reasons are down to HTC i.e. Weather Animations, Secure Inbox, Home screens, etc. These run on top of WinMo. WinMo by itself is a legacy operating system that HTC have dressed up really good.
the only reason, it gets normal updates, it is open source and it developes every day to be good OS(and it has full potential to be best OS) but in case of winmo only minor changes from build to build like changing **** , did you ever think what is changed from build for example 23531 till 23569 com 5 or even compared to wm 6.5 219** builds ? almost nothing... but u see many changes from android 1.6 till the latest 2.2
P.S just want to mention that i'm not kind of guy who hate win mo just i need something new, something that has some new words to say...

Maybe I did not make it clearer but I meant to stick to WinMo on the HD2. Afterall this is a HD2 forum and we users own one. Therefore, HD2, WinMo and Sense are seen as all in one in this thread.
I really enjoyed the Android OS, but it didn't have push HoTMaiL and it didn't truely sync all of my exchange server data (calendar and contacts) without a 3rd party paid app.
For those two reasons alone, I have to side with HTC and WinMo.

Another great reason that Windows Mobile >>> Android is the fact that you can use bluetooth keyboards to type office documents!
There is no way to do this on Android currently...
Added point no hidden virus in wm apps. I am on the fence right now to be honest, I dont like the closed nature of WP7 but dont want OS designer to be able to remotely remove apps from my phone either, as well as I really dont want to have to worry about what the app is doing in the background like the last "music app" that would send sms to a premier site either

Great point there zelendel nice catch!
Even when I had an iPhone before I really appreciated how Apple tested the apps before they allowed them on the market to make sure they weren't malicious...
only thing I liked about android was the web browser with full? flash support.
Otherwise, i didn't see it being any faster than my hd2 on nrgz ROM, and it looks too much like the IOS for me.
I'm waiting to see what second generation wp7 looks like before I decide on my next device. I have a while before upgrading anyways.

what about the international calling "virus" on the 3d terrorist game?
Lookout mobile security is free though for those who want to protect their phone.
good article..its only been a couple of months for myself and im still getting use to winmo. i love the hardware specs which was the main reason i brought the hd2. im still using stock rom which im very happy with .i do get the occasional freezes plus battery life is really frustrating..i havent tried out any of the chef roms as of yet i have seen them on youtube are they more stable? but android seems exciting im gonna stick for the time being until i get bored of winmo and let android develop and a stable port comes along ..last thing how do you get up to 13-18 homescreens.
Exchange
Exchange still not FULLY supported in Android - Tasks anyone?
(at least this was the case a few weeks ago)
Added new positive for Android - the ability to see images in emails on first download of email without the need to download images seperately as in WinMo. That has been a BIG frustration for many WinMo users.

Any other tab I missed?
The latter tabs are either on custom roms or cab installed.
The only 2 things i prefter with Androide is the app store and Flash, but i will absolutly stick with WinMo because it can be customized to your taste and use better then with Androide.
And the best Androide apps you have to paie for, so im staying on WinMo!
I have spent a good deal of time
I have spent a good deal of time in the Android HD2 development section and have installed various builds and played in the speed race. Besides the obvious questions about how to install and make it work, almost all of the questions are people wanting to figure out how to get it to do what and how they used to do it in WinMo. They are "how to get Android to be WinMo" questions. I think that speaks a lot for itself.
Lots of apps, but many very flaky.
WinMo needs a Titanium Backup! Very easy to recover from version changes.
Not very good TV apps for the US.
Android voice recognition is much better for search etc, but the new Bing Nav is just as good.
I will probably use both as it boots in less than a minute. The best of both worlds.

Thing is, we're lucky over here on O2 with unlimited downloads, but many countries charge extautionate rates for data use, so which makes more sense? Download all those images straight away and run up your data bill or give you the email so you can then decide to download the attachments or not?
If i will install Android on my HTC HD2, will i be able to use Android supported software like Skype, Nimbuzz etc. Also what about games for Android on my HTC HD2?

yes, while booted into android, you can use all android apps. You have marketplace and everything. These boots are not rooted though, but there are instructions for that here as well.

wishlist for this phone...

i love this new phone and new os but some things are really annoying and i hope they will be fixed in a future software update
no custom ringtones and no seprate volume control for ringtones this really sucks cause if i turn down the game or music volume it turns down the volume for everything.
playing a game like need for speed and hitting that stupid search button will kick u out of a game ur playing.
setting wallpaers u cant set a full wallpaper u always got to crop the image first i hate this.
no turn by turn directions for maps.
the dialpad and message theme kind of sucks i hope this can be changed
i would like to be able to set a wallpaper for the main screen just not the lockscreen
headphone volume output need to be way louder
the phone tile when u miss a call or get a message would be cool if it would show u who u missed a call from and if u got a text message it would show who text u and half of the message or something like that kind of like what the me tile does when u post something new
putting contact tiles if it would show messages and misssed calls alerts on there tiles that would be great
the top menu bar should always show battery lift signal if u get a txt message etc.
improvment on loading time for games etc..
cant think of anything else i want changed right now
other then that i love this new os i been using iphone since the 2g iphone and this is just way diffrent i also use a android device
I'd like more options within text messaging. I'd like the ability to initiate a call from a text message, and the ability to add a contact from a text message.
I've been a Windows mobile user for quite a while, and made a switch to Android, now to Windows Phone 7, it's great, but I agree with everything you posted, but adding a file explorer it a must. The ability to select or hide different photos that show on the picture tile, an option to hide/show the keyboard while typing (so you can see the whole screen), and the ability to turn on/off wifi, Bluetooth from the main screen instead of digging into the settings each time. Plus a few more settings, like wifi rules, (turning off Wifi automatically after unused, if you like). It would also be nice to be able to remove that little white arrow in the upper right corner of the main screen, it takes up so much real estate on the main screen. Landscape mode on more screens would be nice too.
Oh, and the option to remove an account, I already have a Windows Live account that I don't use stuck on the phone. I don't see a way to remove it, and cant' change the email address or log in id info, only the password.
I'm sure updates will be rolling out to resolve some issues, or possibly apps.....??
surround
you can just add a second windows live acccount and disable the first one by unchecking everything effectively disabling it. I wish you could delete the main one too. However, I posted this somewhere else, the phone got corrupted and after i did a hard reset and connected to my computer, the Zune software restored all my programs (in the backgrouind without my knowledge) and all was good again. There are some bad reveiws of this phone on youtube, but some of the reviewers got it all wrong. For instance the screen resolution for movies is EXCELLENT. It takes the zune software a long time to convery and copy some movies but worth the wait. There are some bugs and some things could use improving. I would say the one thing that bugs me the most is when you zoom in on a net page...the text could be sharper. But I can live with it. All in all the phone is a pleasure and I look forward to the updates.
Thing i dont like about video watching is Netflix over 3G is good quality.. but youtube is crap over 3G. There NEEDS to be a setting for this. Its just a hub extension, but hopefully something gets fixed.
A lot of your suggestions are for the OS, not the physical phone.
It would be nice if the OS could utilize the awesome speaker on the phone a bit more. For example, speaker phone is pretty weak. I also dislike how if the speaker is not slid out, everything is muffled. I guess they expected the sound to reflect better, but it just doesn't.
That's really all I can think of besides the lack of a microSD slot that's visible anyway. I'd take my phone apart to see if there is one, but I don't have a torx bit small enough.
Besides the OS limitations, I think the phone is awesome.
I want to be able to set the notification LED to blink for new texts, emails, etc

I second this. One of the things I miss most from my Tilt2 and all other winmo phones have been the blinking notification light.
Need more from microsoft
I want to be able to block unwanted call, more options in the settings menu and better functions for the camera.
definitely need to be able to explore the phone. more wifi options would be nice as well. also the speaker seems to be a bit lacking. ( sure thumps when i hook it up over the cd deck in my truck though!) I had the htc tp2 prior to this and i became completely addicted to the wifi router utility, so for me personally that would be the most important thing. if anyone knows about anything like this under development let me know. i'm always willing to donate to a good cause.
One of my teens got his old LG upgraded to a Surround for Christmas yesterday. I'd been thinking when my Tilt 2's upgrade time comes this summer I'd do the same -- but not after spending a frustrating afternoon helping him with it!
We played with it in the store several weeks ago. I think the slideout speaker is a gimmick but he's 16 and thinks it's great. We both agree the WinMo 7 tile thing is a bit silly but is FAST, and he loves the HTC Hub UI. The hardware is very good (though I'm not sure I agree with no micro-SD slot).
But using Zune software to sync is a PAIN!!! My Vista laptop took 1/2 hour to download the device drivers, then insisted on a reboot before downloading the Zune software (another 20 minutes). Then the Zune install insisted on checking for an upgrade (yet another 20 minutes) before going thru a rather painful 10 minute install.
Once installed, it was very unhappy when I changed the monitored folders, and took several attempts before it would sync with the folders I'd copied off the kiddos old micro-SD card. Of course what I was most amazed about was the lack of drag-n-drop support in Windows! What kind of lame-brained, Steve Jobs-style of engineer would nix that? (I did find the reg hack to renable that just a few minutes ago, but haven't verified it yet.)
Lots and lots of lockdowns in WinMo 7 that I don't like, as have been mentioned by previous posters. This whole thing reminds me why I disklike the iPhone's OS so much!
Maybe my next phone is gonna have to be an Andriod phone instead...
I kind of agree with all of you. Microsoft might have come into this having windows phone shut a little too tight.
However, that only means that there is more room for improvement.
Multitasking would be nice, especially ones that resonate when you dont have to see them, like streaming music. or at least faster app switching.
File Explorer is kind of important and Bluetooth file sharing too.
Tethering is not that important, but on my fuze I used to use it whenever I went on trips and the hotel tries to give me wifi for $30 a day...but eh... the screen is so much bigger, and it goes a lot faster too that I dont see any need for it, (besides plugins like java, or flash)
Oh and a definite must is the camera settings STAYING THE WAY I LEFT THEM. Whenever you exit the camera, it goes back to default. and on my phone at least, video recording goes to vga, so i would have to set it to 720p if i wanted it.
would love the call blocking and please a flash player!!!!!!!
Improvements
After Multi-tasking and copy and paste are added in the soon to be released update, I would like to see a few more additions. Flash player, Pandora, LED indicator light options for notifications, ringtone options beyond what they have allowed so far, the ability to send videos as MMS messages and a battery % remaining would make me ecstatic.
heh.... guys you will never see multitask like it was on 6.5 ..
as multitask they say - future CLOUD infrastructure update .. which will allow run signed apps on cloud infrastructure .. that means = you will be allowed to create ICQ client .. part of client will run on MS servers . that part will collect ALL YOUR ICQ EVENTS .. and then send to phone via PUSH notify .. on phone side nothing will be rly changed ..coz multitask goal does not collaborate with main WP7 idea - ISOLATED ENVIROMENT FOR APPS
Keyboard directional arrows
Is anyone missing keyboard up, down , left and right arrows? I sure miss them. Lifting your fingers off the keyboard to position the cursor on a particular spot in the sentence is really time consuming and not very precise.
Correct, I will really appreciate arrows in the keyboard
Sent from my Samsung Focus using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
My only feature request for all WP7 devices is gapless music playback. I really, really hate the two seconds silence between tracks, especially on electronic music or The Dark Side of The Moon (man, I love that album.)
Wi-Fi Router
The most important thing that is missing on Windows Phone 7, no doubt, is the wi-fi router function. Today I have to walk with two phones, because of the missing of wi-fi router.
Another important things are:
- File Manager
- Send photos/files via bluetooth
- Outlook Notes synchronization
- Office docs synchronized on the Windows Live could be open on a computer and vice-versa
Main software that I wish to be developed for WP7:
- Log Me in
- SQL Server Client
- Olive Tree Bible
- Google Maps (Oh Google Maps, you don't know how I miss you and your amazing Latitude)
- Auto CAD WS
- Skype
- MSN Messenger
I agree with everything else you published.
MMS Settings
Be able to customize the MMS Settings, some carriers have differnt tier's of internet with different APN's and it is a Necessity to have that option!!!!

It will allow you to customise the amount of homescreens the transition when you move from one to the other and allows you a clean canvas for widgets and icons. Ok i added at the bottom of the post mate Task killers won't be added to this thread they can turn out to do more harm than good and aren't needed within the android os
I'm going to change this thread around shortly and post Apps in post 1, Games in post 2 and Customization in post 3 just to keep them seperate
Coming soon --- launchers, widgets and even more customizations
Sounds great will keep an eye out for the update....

[Q] Live tiles surprisingly...dead

I have been loving Windows 8 so far. I am running it solely on my Alienware M17X R2 with dual m4780 HDs. I had no problems with the drivers, except installing CCC in windows 7 compatibility. I originally had it dual boot, keeping my windows 7. After using it so much, I decided it was fit for my main OS.
One thing I have noticed is my live tiles, despite having data behind them, don't have the lovely live tile aspects as WP7 does. No contact faces flipping over the tile, no album artwork, pictures...anyone else have this problem?
And, in general, how do you all like Windows 8?
I don't think it's a problem, more like that is the state of it until it gets official.
That's what I thought. I just thought I'd check, see if anyone else was having more success with them. I have seen some demo videos online where the tiles seem perkier.
The only thing I've noticed is that the people app doesn't refresh at the rate I would like for it too. I do like the CP though and it's to be expected that not everything would be perfect. I just can't wait to get this thing themed and customized, I'd really like to set my metro tiles up with some custom pictures like I've seen for Launcher7 layouts.
no notification sounds
my live tiles are moving up and down instead of flipping around as we know from wp7. for example a contact tile (just one, every other seems to be frozen), wordpress, mail…
one thing i miss from Windows phone are the notification sounds. when an app is installed, there is the typical wp7 sound, but not when receiving mails...
yea, the sounds would be nice.

You get the same sounds when notifications are received, IE when you get a new message. Issue is E-Mail doesn't send out any notifications, it just updates in the background... have submitted Feedback stating that it should send notifications but they're probably already working on this tbh.
I have the same problem, but i uninstall my antivurus AVG,and now work perfect all live titles
