ums and root explorer - Galaxy S III General

The app is working great!
still there is this tiny problem that drives me crazy
(only) on root explorer, when i try to access the folders i added on the external sd cars, it says
Quote:
"/storage/extSdCard/Music" does not exists. Displaying first existing parent folder instead.
i don't know if it's the app's problem, or root explorer's problem (on other explorers it seems to work)
but is there a way to fix it?
thanks for everything

[Q] Cm7.1 root access?

I recently installed Cm7.1 on my Nook Color, does this give me root access? The reason i ask this is because i was attempting to access my build.prop to try to get some games to work but i can not seem to be able to access it via Astro File Manager. Also on a side note, every time i install an app and do not have my sd card in my Nook i am prompted to do so instead of using my internal memory?

CM7 is a rooted ROM. The file access model is setup to make sure you know what you're doing to prevent you from modifying or deleting a file that is essential to the system even though the ROM itself is rooted. I don't use Astro so I don't know how to get root access for that app. File managers like File Expert (free) or Root Explorer (cheap) will allow you to access the root and system files, but you may have to enable the capability in a setup option. In addition, you will have to set the directory to read/write from read-only to actually modify a file.
Thanks for the info, thought i did something wrong when i was installing cm7

If you use ES File Explorer (recommended) then it has a setting to make the system directory read / write. You can then just long touch the file, open it using the built in text editor and save it.
Yup i did that, checked both boxes under root settings but i am unable to navigate out of the sd card
es file explorer
To get out of SD card, go into settings and change home to / instead of /mnt/sdcard next time you open it will start in base directory

[ROOT] Is there any alternative to stickmount to flashdrives for full access?

Hi guys,
Firstly i´d like to say that i wanted some alternative of stickmount method mainly for installing long files games, but so far as i could see there´s none...
So i want now to use a emulator storage device (psx, n64 games), i tried stickmount, but FPSE couldnt find the folder i created... sometimes i have access to it on ES File Explorer, but only there. So it´s buggy as hell in 4.2.1 as i could see in stickmount thread.
Is there any way to have direct access to flashdisks on Nexus 7? If there´s a better solution than stickmount, please, fell free to clear me. Thanks!

I shifted to paragon ntfs hfs app after getting fade up with bugs of stickmount. Happy with it. It gives problem while unmounting but with less frequency. Doesnt probably support fat system though.
USB Host Controller is what I've been playing with the past couple days, it gives you the ability to choose your own mount points, however the drawback is there's no way that I found to make it auto-mount when the device is plugged in.
Tried both Paragon NTFS and Host Controller... none of them showed any file on my flashdrive using ES explorer.
I´m running out of options here
I've had great success with Stickmount by following these guidelines. Open the app you want to use first. Then plug in the otg cable with your media already attached to the cable. Navigate to /sdcard/usbstorage/sd?1 where ? is a letter a,b,c,etc. If you are multiuser I think you have to go to a '0' folder to find the contents. Exit the app and use the pulldown to unmount, then open another app to use with external and plug in again and you will be able to find your storage in the second app. It really works. I can find and use my external docs, music, videos, etc. and use them with the associated apps.
With default mount point, one can access external storage from any file explorer in 'ParagonNTFS' directory. I never faced any problem for accessing at least, from Es file explorer and astro file explorer.

Need help with understanding mount-points, folder structure and file system rights...

Hi everyone,
I need your help. I sometimes face strange issues with my Nexus 4 (Stock Room, Rooted, Matrix Kernel v5). Yesterday I wanted to copy a apk-file for installation on my phone from my home-server. I use ES File Explorer for that. I failed to copy the apk-file to /sdcard/folder-name (operation failed). then i navigated to /data/media/0/folder-name and tried it from there, also it didn't work.
i then copied the file to /sdcard/download and was able to copy it to that and to install it.
i don't really understand why it behaves that way, i was always able to go to /sdcard/folder-name and do what i want. i also noticed another strange thing. i connected my phone via USB (MTP-mode) to the PC and uploaded a few GB of MP3s to it (Folder: Music).
when browsing this folder with ES File Explorer, I cannot delete anything from that folder /sdcard/Music. THOUGH it reports "deletion successful" the files or folders do not get deleted but just remain on the internal SD-card. i could only delete the music successfully via "/data/media/0/Music".
who can explain briefly WTF is going on? i obviously do not really understand the concept and logic behind this. is there a maximum file/path length that must not be exceeded?
thanks in advance and best regards,
hallu
need to bump this, sorry...
does anyone have any idea as to why this phone is behaving the way it is?
I use root explorer and have ZERO issues. That includes pulling apk's.
Try a different file explorer to see if that makes a difference so at least you can determine if the issue is just app specific and not something else.
Check to see of ES isn't mounting certain folders with RW permissions.
Also the actual internal storage is /data/media/0/ so /sdcard/ is just a symlink to that folder. ES seems to be having problems with the symlinks.

[Q] System Data rogue memory

I know there are many posts about this, also had a similar issue before but I can't remember how I fixed it and other post's solutions aren't working for me.
In Disk Usage it shows 2430 MiB is being used by System data under storage card. I can't find where the rogue files are. I've used Root Explorer, System Analyzer, solid explorer and yaffs explorer to browse through the root directories with no luck.
Any help hunting down with what is taking up all this space would be greatly appreciated!
UPDATE! SOLVED
I figured it out! Although all 3 or 4 different file explorers showed no files in /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS, that was the culprit.
My suspicion was raised when I couldn't delete the folder in any of the explorers on my phone, via adb shell, or ssh. After some googling, I found this this post which has a flashable zip to correct the permissions on the internal memory.
Flashed that, rebooted, used solid explorer to delete the TWRP folder and now my system data is at 415 MiB!

Android 11: Can't see folders with external file explorer

Hi,
if i try to see a sub-folder of Android, my external file explorer (Solid explorer, Root explorer) only show an empty folder. The folder i try to see is this: Android/data. Are there certain restrictions of Android 11, which external explorer can't deal with? I don't have this problem with the intermal explorer and - surprise, surprise - with Total Commander (which i don't like so much...).
Anybody knows a solution or workaround to let other explorers look into these Folders?
Cheers
Clark
Seems like Google decided to restrict access to the Android/Data folder to "approved" applications.
Some other users said that Google Files (what a surprise) and Samsung Files work properly.
I usually use a root explorer, wich works fine, but otherwise most file managers probably won't be able to access the folder for a while.
Add MiXplorer and SD Maid to the list of working file managers. Hoping Solid Explorer gets updated soon!
I'm using root explorer just fine
I am rooted so if you're not then just root is easy

Try Solid Explorer and check if you see /sdcard/Android/Data/. Some file managers work and others don't even if you are rooted.

I'll be honest mate I've never needed anything else since root explorer was released.
Absolutely hate solid lol. Only other one I used to use was called Linda I think, G1 days
Xplore works, Solid Explorer 2.88 works as well
Using some of the recommended file explorers above didn't work for /sdcard/Android/Data/. Most of them were able to see /internal/Android/Data/ though. My Note 10+ wasn't rooted, and I wasn't planning on rooting due to the downfalls. I was able to see the files by mounting the SD card in Windows.
Mixplorer works great for me right now.

Yeah that's the last one I tried before mounting it to the PC. Now the question is which of these file explorers I should keep and finally replace ES File Explorer.

My vote would be Mixplorer. They have a few different themes, as well as add ons.

This was extremely helpful in restoring a SMS backup of the database, thank you for recommending it!
