Hi All
In outlook 2K3, I can share (and view) multiple calendars. Any ideas how to do this on a mobile device? It only shows me my default calendar, and I need to see my wifes, cos that's the one with all the family appointments in it, and if sync that with her machine, I don't get MY contacts and emails.......
A bit late but I was just looking into this subject.. found this software.

have you used the AstraWare? Post comments on it if you have.
Hello all,
It seems that TD2 does not insert birthdays from contacts in the agenda. The solutions would be that you manually add them to the agenda (of course not a real option) or sync contacts with Outlook, which will put them into agenda as well. I personally would prefer not to use Outlook for my contacts.
Is there a fix that birthdays are automatically put in agenda as well?
Thanks!
Am I really the only one who is waiting for an answer?
The TD2 does not, as you say, add birthdays into the Calendar, but Outlook does, and these birthday calendar entries then get synchronized back to the TD2.
The only way I can see a "fix" coming is by programming an app for the TD2 which scans contacts and inserts the birthdays into the calendar, checking of course that they're not already there - I guess this would need to be run manually every time you add a new birthday into a contact, or at least periodically (maybe it could run in background once per day), but as far as I know no such app exists yet.
To my mind, synching with Outlook is the best way, because not only does it solve the problem very well, it also means you have a backup of all your contacts and calendar entries. To me it's a no-brainer.
I've just had a quick check on my calendar and all my contacts birthdays are in there. Even anniversarys are showing

Yep - you synch with Outlook, correct?
I am syncing with outlook, I have been for some devices now. So the birthday reminders are showing up as allday appointments in my calendar. The reminder time for all those birthdays is 2 days in advance, the calendar shows all that correctly. However, I never get one of those reminders!! All other appointment reminders work fine and so do the task reminders, so there's nothing wrong with my notification queue. But the birtday reminders aren't popping up. On my old cruise I got a reminder two days in advance AND on the birthday itself. Now I get none of them.
What's causing this? Can anyone confirm that you have or don't have birthday reminders? I'd appreciate any reactions.
I've found this information in the blackstone forum. I can see that D2 is adding "calendar.exe /allday" notifications to the queue too. I guess memmaid, which I'm using, deletes those notifications.
It was indeed Memmaid that caused the problem, deleting the /allday notifications. I e-mailed their support, hoping they'll fix it. In the mean time, I excluded all notification queue maintenance from the cleaning schedule and recreated the notifications for all my birthdays via ActiveSync.

I'm really annoyed with this problem too. The bigger problem is I'm using an Apple macbook to sync, so using Outlook is out of the question. Looks like I'll have to add all the reminder myself
Having a look around the forum, there appears not to be a quick and easy solution to this.
It's not ideal to have birthdays in your contacts and then separately add them in your calendar as appointments (like others, I think it defeats the objective).
There is a software, not yet tried it: http://www.xoddy.com/products/
but it says its only for WM5, not sure if WM6 will support.
Looking forward to an answer or someone to develop a simple software that will resolve the issue - apologises I don't have the knowledge to do this.

That's one of the penalties of not using a single-vendor solution. If you used Microsoft Outlook with your Microsoft WM phone, you'd be fine. Using an Apple computer with a Microsoft phone OS, you're bound to hit some snags.
I'm sure it's the same for people using iPhones with Windows PCs. Manufacturers tend to make their own products work better together than they do with the competition's products, which makes sense!

I use syncmate to sync ical and address book, within ical prefs, you can show birthdays, these will then sync onto phone
I used to sync with outlook, but it had a habit of changing appointment/birthday dates, usually makes them a day earlier, but only for some, have had no probs with syncmate
Hi
I'm working on a program which will provide various notification related functions not normally included on Windows Mobile.
1) Will add contact's birthdays and anniversaries into the calendar.
2) Will give audible alerts at regular intervals like most mobile phones for text messages/missed calls/emails to get your attention.
3) Option to silence the alerts during the night at a schedule you can select, plus also turn the phone off over night and turn on the next day, good for battery life.
I'll post when it is finished.
Regards
Phil
sounds great!!!
sounds great ... Have you just begun or are you about to finish?
Hi
It is almost finished, I'm just testing it at the moment. It's based an application I did for the Kaiser.
Regards
Phil
Sounds good PhilipL!
I already programmed a solution for this, which will add all birthday reminders to your calendar (without the need for outlook) but it's in german. I'll translate and upload it shortly.
Here it is BirthdaysToCalendar, derived from a sample application included in MS Visual Studio 2008. It will add all or selected birthdays to your calendar.
The program offers a few choices, either add all birthdays to the calendar in one go or let it ask in single steps for each contact's birthday to be added or not. Set the reminder time (time you will be informed prior to the birthday) in minutes. 1 day would be 1440min. , 2 days 2880 min. and so forth. On top you can have the birth year added to the subject, so you will know how old they'll be.
No duplicates will be generated if the program is run again. However, if you have a birthday alert set up manually yourself, but they are not in the the same form (John Doe's Birthday or Birthday John Doe) they will be duplicated.

Hi,
I'm currently impatiently awaiting the arrival of my HD2 from expansys. I'm just wondering about the calendar functionality. I've heard from a few places an HTC program is used instead of the default WinMo version. Is this capable of handling multiple google calendars? My wife and I like to share calendars to keep up on what's happening as life gets quite busy and this function on iPhone is very useful...
Thanks
David
Hi there,
The calendar is an interface for the built in ms app. It should not support google calendar at all.
However, my wife and i use exchange for that. Actually shared calendar was the reason she wanted exchange.
Hi Sproxy,
I thought the problem was with the activesync program in WinMo that stopped syncing multiple google calendars. I thought that because on the iPhone you can sync multiple google calendars through using the Exchange protocol but on WinMo you are limited to one calendar...
Does anyone know how you can get it working or if this might be a future feature?

if you can sync one google calendar, it would be enough because you just have to sync one calendar, which is your own. Your wife calendar events can be added under "add friends calendar" in google calendar.

I don't think thats quite what the original post was getting at.
With ActiveSync, you can sync a calendar, this will bring the main google calendar from your account, ie yours. It doesn't support multi calendars from google.
There is a program out there called OggSync http://oggsync.com/ which reports that it does support all calendars for WinMo.
I've not had chance to try it myself, but will be doing when my HD2 arrives.
1) It is possible to sync two Exchange Servers with your PPC. See http://tinyurl.com/yhuq7ap
Shortcut:
Change the registry key
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\EnableNonLocalCrossPollination]
from (DWORD) 0 to (DWORD) 1
Use a registry editor like Pocket TotalCommander to edit the key.
2) Google offers to sync your calendar, contacts and mail via the ActiveSync Protocol. See http://tinyurl.com/dc4kq9
Shortcut:
Server: m.google.com (use SSL)
Username: [email protected] (with the @gmail.com / @googlemail.com part!)
Password: IHopeYouHaveAGoodPW
I've never tested the solution I provide here, but this should theoretically work.
If you test it, some (including me) might be interested to hear your experiences.

Hi guys, nicelad_uk got more to what my intention was. I have looked and tested with the emulator and found that it's impossible to sync more than one google calendar through exchange. I was wondering whether if HTC had actually rewritten the calendar app and it would therefore support multiple google calendars.
I have tried the OggSync application with outlook and will try it out again when i get my HD2. My only problem is I didn't like that you couldn't add to other calendars (not your main calendar) from without outlook and I just wonder if it will be possible to do so from WinMo...
I really hope Microsoft sort out this stupid problem sometime soon it really is quite frustrating!
Thanks for the help,
David

It doesn't work. Or at least it didn't work for me when I tried. Reading the suggestions about this workaround carefully I came to the conclusion that it might work with ActiveSync connection to PC, but not Exchange over the air.

The bad news is that it's not a bug and therefore won't be fixed. It's by design and considered to be a "security" feature. This way your company thinks that their stuff won't end up somewhere on Google. I know it's stupid (and wrong), but I don't make decisions here.
BTW, it works the same on the iPhone and Android - only one Exchange connection allowed.
What we really need is native support for IMAP Idle really - there's no need whatsoever to use Exchange for personal mail.
Hi, I lookong for some solution (plugin) for Windows mobile 6,1 calendar to switch off or on the phone and another network services and the ringing profiles depending on calendar timepoints. I did not found solution for this problem, otherworlds I would like to integrate some scheduler to the calendar. Is it possible?
Hi all,
I've managed to get my Google Calendars syncing with my phone now both ways, so I can view 5 calendars on my phone. They sync 2 way and do it very well!
The only thing I'm wanting to do is when creating a new Calendar appointment in HTC Sense, it has default categories of "None", "Business", "Holiday", "Personal" and "Seasonal".
I need to be able to change these so I can put the actual Calendar name in and create new appointments on my phone that will Sync to google.
Anyone got any idea's how I can change these? Haven't been able to find anything so far
Try to use the outook mobile calendar ... There you can introduce new categories but they are not used by the HTC agenda. Maybe are read by Google Sync ?

Cheers for that. The Categories are in the Pocket Outlook Calendar and if I use those, it syncs correctly. The only problem is the HTC Calendar version, it has the default categories only.
Shame
I agree with you. I posted yesterday evening a question to HTC support to known if we can change the proposed categories into Sense because it's a Sense limitation (same problem with groups into the contacts).
I will keep you informed.
Hi. How did you manage to sync multiple calendars by categories with google cal?
Please explain.
Id love to know the same as jexxer as well. I have only managed to sync 1 google calendar at a time as well.

I'd like to see a workaround for this too, I use David Allen's GTD methodology and I'd like to change the default categories so that match the ones I use on my Outlook calendar. As it is the default categories sync OK with Outlook, but I don't understand why HTC hard-coded them so they can't be changed.
Otherwise the calendar app is pretty good. There aren't any really good, 3rd party, finger-friendly calendars available at the moment.

For the time being, there is just one (the default one attahced to my google gmail account) which can be synced, the others won't show up in pocket informant ... Your input is more than welcome. Thx in advance !

I just got an HD2 and got Android running onto it without any issue. I am planning to switch over from an iPhone. I have one issue. I am a users that heavily uses Outlook on a daily basis to manage my Contacts and Calendar. Also, I use iTunes for my music.
I did some research on finding ways to sync iTunes and outlook with Android but I couldn't find any satisfying solution.
I was hoping you guys would be able to share how you guys sync Outlook's contact and calendars onto Android.
I know there are few methods out there where I can sync my Outlook with Gmail using Google Sync app, and then sync my Android with Gmail. Isn't there a more simpler method to achieve this?
This is not a solution to your problem, its just what I did to solve all this import/synch from outlook contacts / calendar which is a very frustrating task. I stoped using outlook! I imported all contacts and calendar entries to gmail - gmail calendar and now everytime I run a new android build all these get synchronized automatically. I just input gmail username and pass. It takes only a minute.
Hope this helps

Obviously it's not an option and I never understood why people still complain about a full blown Outlook solution.
I'm in the same situation as you and I solved with a couple of little programs.
Google Contacts Outlook Synchronizer and Google Calendar Sync. You only have to set things once, then everything works on the fly.
As for your music, winamp has just released a beta version which can sync music via wifi or usb. You do need a beta desktop version as well, found here

I ran into Google App Sync, https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gappssync, but it seems that I have to pay for it. Isn't there something similar to this which is free?
