best rom out now on n7? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just rooted and installed cracked version of recovery.. saved it so it wouldn't reboot and overwrite..
so.. whats on the plate for good working stable to bleeding edge roms? any suggestions would be nice

suggestion.. try them out for yourself, find the one thats right for YOU and YOUR device. there is no best rom, there is only the best rom that fills YOUR needs. best rom threads arent allowed on xda because they start fights. everyone thinks that the rom/kernel they use are the best. anyways, you shouild read the rom threads, what people are saying about them. then try them out for yourself. if you dont like a rom, flash another until you find your perfect match.

You should try some out and find the one that suites you. If you are worried about bricking the phone than don't install a custom ROM on it. I have used several the last week or so and of course I have a favorite ROM as well but the choice is individual.
Actually, I would like to know this too.. Im all new to this world of custom ROMs, and I fid it hard to see precisely what everything does, and what makes it uniqe.. For a newb like me, this is indeed hard.

Give hime some credit....80 plus posts not bad, maybe migrated from another device...
If you don`t want to risk bricking your phone then simple NO FLASH NO RISK....
IF you want all the lastest stuff pick a rom you like the contents of....
Personaly i`m on miri at the mo, Might give NRG a try when its released...
Once you start flashing you`ll get the buzz and you`ll want the latest revision all the time....
Good luck, and there`s allways some one willing to help out,
Next time i`d tag your question onto an allready running post about best roms, Do a search and try not to start a new thread....

I am new to it all as well, but didn't have keept me from trying out 5 different roms and I am trying a few more when they are released as well.
The best roms i have tested is the Topix 1.1 and the XT Pandora 1.0 which I am using now. The thing I like about them both is the are really fast and responsive. The Pandora rom has more software installed from the start which can be both good and bad. The collection of apps in pandora suits me well, the topix had to get a few pieces of software installed.
Admins and many people dont like topics like that because they bring us to endless discussions. Some people are fan of that rom others are fan of another one and start to 'battle' here.
As far as i know there are five or six roms around here. Thats not to much to try.

As everyone else said don't flash if you are scared! if you read well and follow instructions there is no reason you brick your device ...
If you are:
1. Looking for stable and fast 6.5 ROM I reccomend Miri
2. Looking for stable and fast 6.5.x ROM with menubar at the bottom try Maati
so do what the rest of us do and test. I tried 4 ROMs the first day SSPL was released and have now settled on my fav. People who have been flashing for a while do have preferred cookers but as you are new i would try 3 or 4 and try them. The Rom Posts always tell you what is included as extras and what they have removed from the standard apps that come with it to either speed it up or make a little mnore space.
Do some more research if needed but dont come asking what the best ROM is as it all comes down to personal opinion in the end anyway. Take buying a Car yes you might ask people which to buy but in the end you will test drive a few then settle on which is the best for YOU. It's the same with ROMs.
As for worrying about bricking your phone as long as you follow the instructions you should be fine. I have been doing this for a couple of years now and the only issue i have ever had was flashing a Security unlocked Radio because i didnt pay attention to what the instructions said.

For answer what's best now, i would like to say, stock 1.61 is best one.
Try alot of cook Rom so far, but no one still now is stable, all of them cause a system freeze on my phone.
Note that HD2 is very fast and have a high hardware performance allready, so rom cook needed stable at the first.

I agree with you. Make a big round trying all the custom roms , now I'm back to 1.61 stock rom. 1.61 is fast and stable. Gonna wait till the custom roms are stable first before I use them for daily usage.

I agree with this. I have since gone back to 1.48 (+ hotfixes + 1.61 radio, so it's basically 1.61 in German). In particular, WM6.5.3 seems to cause a few problems. I am sure this will get fixed in due time. What the OP was in a way criticizing is the fact that many custom roms have third party apps and themes built in - which is very much a matter of taste. I personally look forward to this:
- Clean 6.5.3(.3) OS
- HTC Sense + other stock apps patched so they do not conflict with 6.5.3.
- No custom themes / icons etc unless they are provided as optional addon.
From my Kaiser i still remember the "UC" method, where cabs were optionally added after flash depending on the what you put in a text file. I think this was the best compromise.
So the newest official rom is the best? And after installing that i have to tweak everything?
aint it possible to delete everything and just install a fresh windows mobile and htc sense, and go on yourself with stuff i want? Or is it not possible/not a good idea?

i dont think the official rom can beat the two latest cooked roms i have used. the topix and pandora are faster and more smooth and still has the htc software as well
i tried em all
i really wish to take some thing from everything
but back to miri
man that rom is super fast
it just needs some folders and some apps thats all
i am on miri's too.. didn't try others but coming from 1.43 stock it was much smoother!!!

Although I like your common sense argument, I wonder if it holds when you realise that a stock rom with a gazillion tweaks, utilities and driver updates added isn't realy a stock rom anymore.
So what's better: to go for a tweaked rom that is tested and shared by a community of users, or to soft-modify a rom yourself?
The only thing I'm a bit worried about is how save my data are on a customed rom. I mean aren't they a bit "hacker" prone? Not that i mistrust the chefs, but the components they use, how trustworthy are they?
EDIT: but then again, also installed utilities, programs etc. could potentialy hijack my personal data.... (so not maybe the worry isn't very realistic)

roms?

how many roms are there for the my touch 4g? i want to try a new one any one u think is good?
try looking at the wiki, that should tell you about how many roms... as for which rom is good, that is all up to your taste and wants and needs, i am using cm7 atm, but soon to flash a sense rom just for the hell of it...
ROYALTHUNDERBOLT is a sweet Rom! Try it out...there are many choices at the moment but I have a feeling in the coming week, there will be a couple more released.

Check out the development section. That's what it's there for. All of the ROMs, Kernels and Recovery images will always be posted there.

here is the development section, all ROMS are listed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=796
and here is a link to the resource bible, very useful http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866175
I currently have CM7 installed, but there are many ROMS to choose from. There are sense-based and gingerbread-based ROMS, but also some really nice ones including LiquidMetal and Honeycomb. Just try them out and see which ones you like, make sure you do a nandroid backup tho

I'm not trying to be rude, but, besides you, who knows what is best for you?
You've provided a link to a specific ROM, so I am assuming you are interested in this particular ROM. I would read over the developers post and see what features are contained in the ROM and decide if your stock ROM is better suited for you or not. If you have questions about that ROM, you could post them in the same thread you linked. If you are asking if that ROM is stable, then you should probably post that question in that thread instead of this one.
Hope this helps and, again, not trying to be rude, just wanting to understand your question.
I tried this ROM and I thought is was great. If you want to stay very close to stock but retain root it is a great way to go. You can edit the boot.prop file to disable the cell stand by and save battery and I was able to flash an OC kernel. This is the best way to get stock 3.2 because if you use the ACER update you will loose root. I ended up choosing Taboonay 2.1 over this ROM because vache has an online kitchen that allows you to choose which Acer stock apps you want to install and skip the ones you don't. Also, the stock apps get installed on the data partition, so they can be unistalled and don't take up room in the ROM. You can't go wrong with either ROM though, they are both awesome.
Hope this helps.
thenk you both the question was if these is correct rom for me because if i'm downloading from the post of the stock's there's many rom's there so i understand that here it doesn't matter

No prob. Best of luck. I do not have my A500 yet but I have a Viewsonic Gtab. Like with my Gtab, I am looking forward to trying out the custom ROMs for the A500. If you invest in a good backup strategy, trying out a new ROM isn't an earth shattering experience.
Glad I could help. Which ROM did you end up flashing?

Yet another 'which rom' thread - stable, stock, day to day

You, sir, are an idiot. The title of your thread itself points out that there are already thousands of these threads asking for the best ROM, yet you decide against all common sense to create a new thread? Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.
I recommend either American Android or tytung GB rom for sd
I think magldr is good depends what u have on nand
Sent from my NexusHD2 using xda premium

always one arsehole.
and to walidhazem, thanks. the amount of roms available is shocking. and none of the other 'which rom' are about stock roms. going to be keeping winmo 6.5 as my nand rom.
This is a lot like asking whats your favorite food, your bound to get many different answers because what i/we like on our ROMs you may not. Every person has their own likes and dislikes about the ROMs they choose so without trying a few your only going by what someone else likes and not really what you may find that you like.
You could check out this site. It lists about every ROM (android) for our hd2 and gives some basic info you can use to help narrow down your search. I sometimes look at the developers signature or others i find give a lot of benifit to the site because i feel they would have a better knowledge on whats a good, stable ROM. Hope you find this helpful.

[Q] Thor A500 ROM v14.2

Heya,
Is anyone know where i can find "Thor A500 ROM" without any customization please.
Thank You
I'm not sure, if i am allowed to post links to his forum?
Google search "TegraOwners"
can't miss it. That rom is good for acer. I've used it for about 4-5 weeks..It's based on ASUS Tablet. not a acer and has his fast kernel 3.9r3.
Read his posts and follow instructions. Probably not a good idea to ask more about his stuff on xda? he has his own forum over there.
There are plenty of good Custom ROMS here.
plus about 95% of us, use CWM Recovery 1.34 or 1.6v2 by him.
I think what the OP wanted, was to know where he/she can find the original Transformer port from the ASUS. Before "you know who" did all the mods to it. At least the way I understand it. Only because the OP knew exactly what version and who made it (a google would have taken them directly there)
The Rom you are looking for, is not a stock Acer rom, but was a Port from an Asus Transformer tablet. So you can ask in the transformer forum. But Transformer roms will not run on Acer without doing heavy mods, so don't try
As far as I now, Thor is the only one who ported it. So you may want to ask there at his site. But it was based on the Revolver Rom if I'm not mistaken, which originally came from;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1173230 (note that this is for an Asus Transformer)
I don't wanna go there, I wanna stay here in XDA plz, could please tell me any good ROM for Acer a 500 and some apps for Student as well plz.
Thank You
Akram
nearly any of the close or near stock rooted roms will suit your needs well i think.. The well cooked /changed roms all are great too but each have issues. something not working . cant play a set game . but they have over clocking and added hardware support on some..
so Asking what rom is a wide open loaded Question. i did see somewhere another asus port rom. i think by ezterry if im not mistaken look in the dev section and at the developers signatures .. if you see a asus rom listed msg them and politely ask would be how i would go about it..
good luck...

Dude, nobody is gonna crucify you, if you ask about Thor's rom. It's a damn good rom for the 500. If you want to try, go to tegraowners. There are 2 roms for the 500. Here on xda, there are several good ones. Do you want a Stock system or an Overclocked System? Mods?
But if you want support for it, Thor's or Flexstriker, you'll have to post it on his forum. It's not a big deal.
Hell, I do testing for Thor, and use his kernels at times.
So relax...

I did test Thor Rom on my tablet and im getting tons of problems man ! so Now i want to try 'Flexstriker', but where i can get this ROM, sorry im new to this stuff i don't know anything. plz guide me abit..
if you were having all kinds of trouble. its likely you did not wipe or format properly before you flashed.. or you put a app back on the tablet that caused it..
FALLOW INSTRUCTIONS very carefully.. I tried that rom went back because of few minor troubles.. and the obvious things..

Flexstriker uses the same kernel as Thors.
You might want to listen to previous advice and do a thorough wipe and format before you install either one, and CERTAINLY afterwards should you decide to move on to another ROM!
The Flexstriker ROM is on the same page where you likely got Thor's. He posted his there because it uses Thor's Kernel which can't be posted on XDA.
As a student, what kind of apps are you looking for? Most of the time you can just download them from the market. Additionally, I believe most of the custom ROMS now have the full version of Polaris Office on them.
