Problem with Koodo network - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, got a really weird problem with Koodo.
I got a new Micro SIM for it today, and it didn't pick up the network so I asked the people at Koodo kiosk to test it and it worked fine on another phone so SIM, or network shouldn't be a problem.
After some fiddling around, I changed the network type in the Testing menu(by dialing #*#*4636*#*#) to WCDMA Preferred (later found that CDMA/GSM Auto (PRL) and WCDMA Only and Unknown) gives me signal and I can make calls, but the default CDMA Auto (PRL) doesn't work.
However, whenever I make a call, there's a little text popup at the bottom that says "Sending", and after call completes, the Phone app crashes and it seems to go back to the normal settings (CDMA Auto)...
So it's a really weird problem... anyone have any insights to solve this?
To add: I did try Rogers SIM in it before, and made some changes to APN and changed the network to LTE/GSM Auto for testing, not sure if that could be interfering with it now because it's using the default APNs.
Another edit: I think reason Phone app crashes is because it's the Testing app where you select network type that crashes. If I exit out of that before making the call it doens't crash.

Are you by any chance using the lte toggle in aokp? I remember when using that it crashed the phone app, which aokp build are you on?
The phone should default on WCDMA Preferred, and if you have lte use lte/gsm auto.

Yeah I do have the LTE toggle in AOKP, but I think the crashing was due to having the testing app open.
Anyways, it seems to default to WCDMA Preferred now... dunno why it wasn't on that before, because I rebooted many times and it always no signal. It seems to be all good now, no crashing and signal's strong.

If you used the lte toggle in aokp it would defaul to cdma, then after a phone call the phone app would crash, the only way to solve that would be to wipe the phone, been there done that.

Mine is back to defaulting to WCDMA Preferred... Is it because I set it to that manually?

Yes, if you use the lte toggle it'll default to something else since the lte toggle wasn't made for the nexus4.

Glad to see you appear to have made progress here? Apologies if it was AOKP related issue and not straight forward apn as it sounded in kernel thread.
May be with warning others back in ROM thread once resolved and if you're 100% sure toggle was cause?

How to force LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) or any other Preferred Network Type.

Hello, I have no problem receiving an LTE signal on BCE (Canada) through the Phone Info Menu. I can select any of the preferred network types including LTE, LTE/GSM, CDMA, LTE/GSM/CDMA but it won't stay. Every day I have to go back into the menu and it reverts back to the first selection "WCDMA".
Does anyone know how to force this so it stays on LTE/GSM/CDMA. So it will stay on the LTE-enabled network unless there is a loss of signal and it reverts back to HSPA? It does this automatically when "LTE/GSM/CDMA is selected, but again reverts to CDMA within a day usually.
I did some searches here, but 99% of what comes up is just people asking how to enable LTE or if their network gets it?
Any ideas? Maybe some sort of macro thing.
Regards.
Add this line in build prob
telephony.lteOnGsmDevice=1

Reboot
Now in settings/more/mobile networks u will have an option to choose and it will stick. U have to add the line every time u flash ROMs.
But I keep iron WC DMA/gsm for better battery speed is OK on h+
Thanks for the helpful reply man. I haven't edited a build.prop yet, so Ill have to check it out.
Alright thats all done now, works like a charm. Like that I have the option now either way. I typically stick to WCDMA/GSM when on the road or at work where LTE is spotty, but on days off for around town I would rather just be on LTE as I usually just looking up something quick when Im shopping or something.
Thanks again.

I keep it at LTE, it does have less bars but quality is same for me, speeds are amazing. Also 4G is only data, not voice, so when u have an active call it will change to 3G.(but that's not the phone it's the network)
don't forget to do it again if you flash new ROM, also Tethering WiFi won;t work, there is a fix but it's complected for me, so I just go to W/G if I need to share connection.
So, my Nexus 4 shipped today, and it'll be in my grubby little hands by tomorrow evening. I, unfortunately, can't activate it until March, as I have to wait for my Verizon contract to end, but I keep seeing this LTE stuff, with no real explanation. I do know that the Nexus 4 has an inactive LTE radio in it, but what's the use of activating it, if T-Mobile doesn't have LTE? Is this only for the AT&T users?

There are other threads dealing with who can access LTE in the USA. I am in Canada and on Bell.
I'm in Canada, using Fido. I activate the LTE on my Nexus 4. It works fine, but I'm not able to share internet with wifi hotspot.
I have Android 4.2.1 (latest OTA from Google).
There is a bug with this version or it's only because I activate LTE manually ?

what is the fix to get hotspot internet sharing with the Nexus 4 ? Do i have to had a APn for 3G and swith that it to share my connection ?
I'm with the original firmware. Android 4.2.1
process com.android,phone hase stopped working
i recently got a rom from revolt on my n4 and i switched cdma to lte gsm wcdma auto
i also went into build.prop and wrote down telephony.lteOnGsmDevice=1. i went and to setting, more, mobile networks chose the correct setting. so now i got 4G. great i can make calls. GREAT. but i cannot receive calls...
need help with this. im really choked about this ROM
Even if I select "LTE/CDMA" in the Mobile network settings menu. The settings page keeps displaying "CDMA preferred".
Does this mean it didn't work? In quick settings, I see my mobile data connection as 3G Bell.
LTE only seems to work when using the *#*#4636*#*# trick in the Phone app.

Thanks, but LTE doesn't work in my country, its always stick on lte/gsm/wcdma but it doesnt detect my gsm so i have to manually set it on GSM only but wont stick here every time i restart my phone i have manually set it on GSM only otherwise it wont detect my network
Any advice ?
How can I make "WCDMA Only" the default selection?
Where I Iive there is no LTE and the coverage of the service is quite poor, so the phone keeps jumping between E and 3G/H. I have to manually go into the phone app and select "WCDMA Only" is there a build prop tweak to make the "WCDMA Only" the default option instead of "WCDMA Preferred"?
Thank you.
So is there a way to get the nexus 4 to work on Verizon ??

Aah Crap ! Well thanks man saved me from buying on guess i will have to stick with my rezound for now then
fixed it
For everyone still searching for a solution to this problem, this worked for me. Go to phone information and turn your radio off. Then switch to LTE/GSM/CDMA then power down, DO NOT TURN YOUR RADIO BACK ON. Now remove your Sim card, put it back in, reboot and you should be good to go. DO NOT HGO BACK INTO PHONE INFORMATION OR ELSE IT WILL NOT STAY
If it still isn't connecting try fiddling around with your APN settings.

[Q] Nexus 4 Radio - No 3G/HSPA Signal

I've not had a 3G/HSPA signal on my N4 for a while now. Trouble is I don't know exactly when it happened as I'm generally on either WiFi at home or at work, where I know I can only get Edge.
I've tried the usual check the APN, *#*#4636#*#* and nothing's jumping out at me (if I tell it to use WCDMA only I get no signal at all).
I'm wondering if it was the 4.2.2 udpate and wonder if I've got the wrong radio - so the question is does anyone know what radio I should have on my N4? I'm in the UK on Vodafone, but I got the phone from the Play Store.
I've tried searching but the N4 seems to have had so many signal issues it's difficult to sift out the relevant stuff
I'm not rooted but I'm happy to do it if needed. Already tried a factory reset so nothing to lose!
Cheers,
Dave
have you tried a different sim card? thete isnt a specific radio per region, so thats not a problem.

Yeah, sorry, forgot to say. I tried the wife's SIM (different operator) and same issue, only got a 2G signal.
I was thinking it might have been an issue when they updated it to remove the LTE "feature"
Even i have the same problem . I am from India and also have tried a couple of sim card . Im not able to get 3g signal at all . Anyone pls help....
i have the same issue solved whit RMA my first nexus 4 was defective, my new nexus 4 changed in warranty now works well
3G/HSPA networks
participles ipntsly
I started having the same issue today in Atlanta. Had another T-Mobile HSPA phone sitting next to mine with 4 bars while I was on Edge. My N4 is < 1 week old and seemed to be OK but now I can't get it on anything other than Edge.
I've checked my APN settings, reset the radio, turned data on/off and reset the phone with no luck.
Any advice?
Update: Just got mine working, here is what I did.
Wasted 20 mins talking to Google and T-Mobile. (I don't recommend this step.)
Type in *#*#4636#*#*
Scroll down and change 'WCDMA Preferred' to 'WCDMA Only'. At this point my bars switched from Edge to HSPA.
Now, undo the change and put it back on WCDMA Preferred. Make sure it still has a 3G or an H next to your bars.
Exit and enjoy the fast phone.

This worked for me.. thanks
I am having the exact same problem as Dave. My n4 has just stopped connecting to WCDMA (H).
I have tried re entering my APN's, Turning on/off mobile network, Airplane mode, rebooting and removing the SIM. From the test menu I have tried WCDMA only but I lose my signal completely and go to emergency calls only. If I use either GSM only or WCDMA preferred I can get a 2G connection but nothing more and when on WCDMA preferred it can lose connection completely as well.
I am also with Vodafone UK.
solution for this
Guys....even I had the same problem.....but was able to solve it.....
Go to settings >apps>all >Google framework services in this disable it and clear data and again enable it....
Enjoy 3g once again ....it worked for me

Getting bars on 'GSM only'
I have got the same issue on my Nexus 4, and I still don't understand how it happened in the first place. I updated a bunch of apps before going to bed and remember waking up to no signals on my phone.
Currently I only receive signal when I go *#*#4636#*#* and set it to 'GSM only'. Any other configuration (WCDMA preferred, WCDMA only, etc) results in loss of signal.
I have tried the following with no luck:
1) Restored Factory Settings
2) Installed an older version of android
3) Flashed multiple radios
4) Steps listed on this thread
Can anyone help me out with this?
Thanks

phone just stop receiving any call but the signal bars are full

I read these but it mentioned N5 only,
but I did experienced this problem couples of time in different days and it last for so long that I didn't know at all
(only found out when someone did leave me voice mail and it popup)
I am using 4.4.2 rom with hybrid modem LTE enabled,
I am trying with LTE disabled right now and see if the issue fixed.
If you dial *#*#4636#*#* it'll bring up a menu. Click phone information and make sure if you wanna use LTE make the selection to LTE/GSM auto not LTE Only. I've has that problem and i could receive calls or texts. If you wanna go back to HSPA+ use WCDMA Preferred. Hoped that helped

Network mode changes to default after reset LG-H870DS

Hello
The problem i have is for the Dual SIM version (HongKong).
Every tyme the phone is restarted the Prefered network mode is reset back to default mode : GSM/WCDMA auto
The options I have are:
GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto
GSM/WCDMA auto
WCDMA only
GSM only
Has anyone else experienced this and would you know where is the best place to report this to LG?
thank you!
I'm experiencing the same issue when using on T-Mobile. I've even modified my APN settings to match TMO GS8, small change in APN type.
I submitted feedback to LG HK, https://www.lg.com/hk_en/support/contact/chat-email/email
I can confirm this behavior is the same on my H990DS that I'm running on the telus network in Canada. Every time the phone is restarted it always defaults back to "GSM/WCDMA auto" instead of "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto"
I wrote LG support in canada and they told me they couldn't help me because it's an international phone. And that it was probably a problem with my APN settings (what a pathetic cop out canned response). There is obviously nothing wrong with the APN settings, as it has no problem grabbing an LTE signal when I set the preferred network mode to "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto"
The issue, is that the phone resets it's preferred network mode to "GSM/WCDMA auto" every restart. As seeing that other people are experiencing this same issue in completely different carriers pretty much says that this is problem with the phone .
Has anyone found a solution?
I have the very same issue, i the past I have used an app that I could force a 1x rtt connection on a cdma phone, the app itself used the advanced phone menu to do this, but a lot of these app don't work anymore and haven't since kitkat, but I don't suppose it'll hurt to try, the one I used for my cdma phone was for the HTC thunderbolt, had a gray or black round icon with a little red lighting bolt.

not receiving incoming calls...

just got the phone yesterday and updated it to the P beta. everything works amazingly well for a beta in my opinion, BUT i cant receive calls. outgoing calls, texts, web and apps are just fine.
spent almost 2 hours at tmobile flipping all the settings around and no luck. any ideas would be appreciated.
Same issue here bro...Incoming don't ring but I get voicemail notifications.... Really annoying, even if it is a DP.
Turns out the beta doesn't play well with the essential LTE. Switch to 3g and calls will come through. Hopefully it doesn't take long to find a work around for it
I believe the people having this issue have volte enabled...try and disable volte (it's broken anyway and more than likely why calls won't ring through) and see if that works
Got same issue... My experience was that I could solve the problem with reboot.
Issue came after playing on settings for mobile network.
Is meaning, when you do this you have to reboot afterwards otherwise you can't receive calls
Try it.

Tried rebooting multiple times while changing settings around. The only way I can get the calls to come through is by going without LTE completely.

Settings/network settings/mobile network/advanced/enhanced LTE?
I had the same issue and to fix mine I just enabled Wifi Calling.
When on wifi I didn't get a call, just missed call notification. After enabling wifi calling, it comes through without issue.
I tested calling off wifi and on wifi and all calls come through good now.
This could be similar, so you guys might want to look at that also.
Good luck!
Heard from a few that this was solved by going into phone app settings -> calls -> calling accounts, then turning on "receive incoming calls". Seems it's disabled to save battery? Can't confirm as I just flashed to try it out and then went back to 8.1 because I like themes too much. Lol.
I'm on Sprint and was never able to make or receive calls regardless of Network settings in the easily accessible options menu.
The following fixed my issue. You can access this menu without downloading an app but I forget how so it's easier to just download the free app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xsquarestudio.forcelte
I had my network mode set to LTE/CDMA when first using this app, and somewhere in the middle I changed it to CDMA but I'm not sure how much that impacted the actual fix.
These were my steps. I'm not responsible for any damage this may cause to your device as I'm not sure if messing with these settings is foolproof or not.
First, opened previously linked app "Force LTE" then under "Set Preferred Network Type" I changed to CDMA only. Enabled/disabled airplane mode. This seemed to do nothing as LTE was still showing in statusbar.
I then chose CDMA auto (PRL), airplane mode on/off, didn't seem to do much either. LTE still showed in statusbar and couldn't make calls. Also "Voice Network Type" showed "Emergency Calls only" inside the app.
I then chose the 3 dot menu and chose "select radio band". I changed that to United States, without resolving problem. Then selected "Cellular 800" and this may have solved the problem, but I continued on and selected PCS, fiddled with some settings in Phones settings menu. Was finally able to receive calls and my signal indicator showed 3G. In app Voice Network Type was listed as 1xRtt. I decided to select radio band once more and chose Class 10.
Calls were still functioning fine. So I went into Main settings menu and changed mobile network from CDMA to LTE/CDMA. LTE kicked in and calls still work!
Again, these settings may only work for Sprint hence the PCS Network option, and I believe Sprint may utilize the 800mhz frequency. The app might show you different options depending on your carrier. I don't know.
Anyway, fully functioning! Woohoo!!

I don't have anything in my settings that says "enhanced LTE" .
Tried using the 4g/LTE and the LTE only options. Neither would let calls through.
I have this problem using the Essential PH-1 with Android 9 Pie in South Korea on the KT network. It should be fully compatible, according to radio specifications, however it only works when I change the following setting:
Settings | Network & Internet | Mobile network | Advanced | Preferred network type | 3G
This is not ideal, since it makes the Internet slow, but at least I can make/receive voice calls. I submitted a support ticket to Essential requesting their official help (I'm well within warranty).
I had the same issue when I use my Att prepaid plan. The problem is caused by wrong network type, you can send text and browse internet, because they use the different channel. My PH-1 wrongly recognized the sim as CDMA/LTE mode, just switch it to 4G/LTE, it will be work. Go to Settings, then search "wi-fi calling", point "advanced" then you can see an opinion "Preferred network type" if you are ATT or T-mobile user, and your preferred network type is "LTE/CDMA“ then your phone cannot make call. Switch it to "4G/LTE", you phone will be work. BTW, Verzion uses CDMA, so if you are Verzion user, CDMA/LTE will work for you phone.
