Sixaxis (USB) remap (GTA3) - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know of a way to remap Sixaxis controller? In GTA3, right analog stick is mapped to some strange "freeview" and I would like to use it for camera pan.
I'm running stock 4.2.1 (not rooted and I would like to stay that way if possible), controller is connected via USB OTG cable. I'm aware of Sixaxis app but it requires root and as far as I understand it works over bluetooth only..
Thanx!

It does require root for the Sixaxis Controller app. However, if you use it and BT the controller, it is an identical control mapping to a PS2 controller. Just like playing it on the console. Works the same in Vice City as well.

I suppose you're talking about the Sixaxis app game settings which you can download on thread here on XDA (because using the out of the box stock ROM and USB OTG connection, mapping it's nothing like on PS )
I wanted to know if there is a way to do something like that when Sixaxis is connected via USB and preferably without going through the root procedure. Guess not

Actually no, I'm talking about the Sixaxis Controller app in the Play store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscontroller&hl=en
If you use this, and root/BT the controller to the phone, you don't need "app game settings" from that other thread for GTA3 and VC to work just like on a console.
Aside from the hassle of rooting, I don't see a reason not to. You provide root access to apps anyway.

Gamepad to work on the A500? (Richardtrips and Thors Kernel works!)

I'm running stock 4.010.38 right now and I've tried XBOX 360 remotes and a Generic USB Gamepad but I can't get it to work.
ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to use it for Snes and N64oid emulator.
Cheers!
Edit: Please for those who are successful and unsuccessful with this, post your builds and your settings and gamepads! This way we can see whats what.
Edit: Progress (DEV)Richardtrips kernel 2.3 and Thors kernel they have generic USB gamepad support enabled! Awesome!
I'm running rooted stock and was able to get something from a final fantasy 14 gamepad. Gameboid couldn't detect some of the buttons, so it may be a limitation of the driver.

using a Saitek generic pad
Have a old USB saitek 6 button - plugged it in, works fine. Only can use 4/6 buttons but it seems to work fine, tested with a snes emulator, using 4.010.04 stock.
My wired 360 controller worked on 3.0. I haven't tried since updating to 3.1 since no games use it.

Guys dont forget to post your build number
I'm useing the new Virtuous XooM v1.1.2 HC 3.2 rom and my a500 works just fine with my ps3 controller hooked up through usb
Pretty sure all 3.1 firmwares sould work with xbox , some USB and ps3 controllers the main issue is that you can only use them in some apps like the emulators.
you can not controll eg the browsers with them. and dont think games like NFS work ether.
4.010.40, N64Droid, ps3 = yes, usb = yes
works great
...running 3.1 stock rooted, use the honeyvillian rom too. Logitech wired gamepad works great on nesoid emulator
4.010.11 com Gen 2. Wired 360 controller is working with cordy, snes9x, and n64oid. For cordy, no setup required. For the emulators, go to the button setup, select a button, then push a button on the controller
3.1 with the Picasso mod.
WiiMote works great, even the motion works.
Had to download an app from the market, WiiMote Something.
Not sure if the ubs remotes are the same, but I have to change my keyboard input, from stock to Game Pad, then map them in the games.
Unable to get the Xbox controller on mine to work.
It isn't an official MS one, its called "After Glow" which connects via a USB cord. When I plug it in the light flashes on the Xbox symbol but have not been able to remap it in Snes9x or any other emulator i have tried.
Build: Acer_A500_4.010.40_COM_GEN1
Tempted to pick up a Logitech Dual Action Game pad as I can get one cheap and heard that it does work, anyone else have experience with this model?
*edit* Borrowed my mates official Microsoft Xbox USB controller and it worked fine so looks like I was just having an issue with the generic brand, shouldn't be surprised really.

Just for info both Thors kernel and Richardtrips have USB Gamepad support.
It didnt work before but it works now, but still not with my xbox 360 controller.

Its working perfect for me im using a generic ps3 look-alike.
I think that generics should all work because it basically acts as an outside navigation tool like a mouse and you can move around the Honeycomb UI as soon as you plug it in the/USB port.
Will upload a picture of my remote later.

Theoretically you should be able to navigate the entire UI using the gamepad so I dont think that is strange behaviour.
Nothing to worry about.

Does anyone know if usb gamepads work with the Iconia? Would like to use an analoge pad if it can be done to play some PSX games..

why bother using a wired joystick when you can get a wireless joystick at just few bucks more..
i have PS3 wireless joystick and installed sixaxis contoller app... been happy and no problem so far
Those of you using an xbox controller hardwired..
my left analogue stick works but not the right one. also the top L+R buttons work but not the bottom ones..
do you guys have the same issues??
Also..
Those using the PS3 controller.. have you noticed that any buttons arent responding? might invest in a PS3 controller if they all work correctly.
thanks in advance.
I've bought this app on the market
(Damn, cannot post links...)
it's called 'USB/BT Joystick Center'
It's working perfectly to me...
I've tested 3 generic usb joysticks and all of them worked.
You can create the USB driver based on the bits input of the device.
really nice, and no root is needed.

Hi!
Well i've had no problems with that.. It works like an alternative input method, like in the Wii controller input, but you're not gonna use to type your passwords around. I've contacted the developer about the deadzone for sticks and he hass implemented that...
It's working fine for me, and since I don't use the tablet for banking I'm not THAT worried about passwords on it at all...

Anyone know if PlayStation One (dual shock) controllers can work properly?
I have one hooked up via an OTG cable and a USB conversion hub (to plug the controller into) and can only seen to get the analogue sick to work on FPse. The others buttons (other than the D-pad and right analogue stick) seem to be working in the joycentre but I am not sure how to get them to work outside it, out how to tell the joycentre what physical buttons the presses relate to. Does anyone know if a tutorial video in English?

How do I connect a PS3/360 controller?

so it was my understanding that an innate ability of 3.1 was that it allowed us to plug in controllers, including PS3 and 360, and play witht hem. I plugged in my PS3 controller, expecting some sort of "input detected" message, but nothing. theredoesn't seem to be anything in the settings to configure or connect a device, either.
how do we do this? I know there are some emulators that have released updates with controller compatibility in the changelog.
As far as i kmow you camt connect a 360 controller. To connect a ps3 controller u need sixaxis controller. Its a paid app in the market.

I connected my wireless xbox360 controller using the PC dongle. I never got any message, it just worked. There are videos showing how to do it.
I can also confirm if you plug in a usb xbox 360 controller it works almost instantly
Using the xBox wireless usb adapter for PC to play emulators on my a500 3.1. Works like a charm.
The app to support the PS3 Sixaxis controller is only needed if you use it over bluetooth. It works without that program plugged in by USB. Bluetooth support is cool, but you need a PC as part of the pairing process for the controller.
Doing something with the controllers is something different though ... most emulators allow you to map the controller keys to the game, but you need to set them up in the emulator.

does anyone have any tips on disabling the home and back keys on the android while using a different input method? Use an app called bt/USB joystick controller (just search "joystick" in market.) Its a paid app but about 60p and well worth it. I use it with my wired and wireless Xbox pad.
It has custom profiles for all different pads and means all ure buttons work. The UI isn't massively clear but once its set up its a doddle You basically tell ur device that input method is not touch screen keyboard, but instead your pad.
Best part is that I use my pad for some proper games (ie not emulators) and its great. Gta is awesome on it.

connect wirelessly a PS3 controller to galaxy tab 7.7

Hi! is it possible to connect wirelessly or wired via USB adaptor to the tab & play games on the tab? I have a PS2 & PS3 Controller. The PS2 controller has a converter that switches it to a standard USB slot. I hope to find a way that doesn't require rooting as i'm worried that after rooting & modifying any files i might not be able to receive firmware updates from Samsung.

I use my PS3 controller on my 7.7 all the time. You DO need root access though. There's an app on the market called Sixaxis Controller which you will need to buy, but it works perfectly if you follow the directions. You need to use the pairing tool on your PC in order to set the controller to look for your 7.7 as the Bluetooth master, but once you've done that, you should be all set!
P.S. Full instructions here.
Any other way without rooting? I don't wish to root for fear of changes to any of the system files that might hinder my firmware updates.

You gotta root. You really have nothing to worry about with simply rooting. Unless you're planning on flashing custom firmware or ROM's, you got nothing to worry about.
I do not have PS3 wireless controller. I am planning to buy one. I would like to know if you are using Original PS3 dualshock 3 controller or non-original controller. I prefer to buy non-original one because of its rapid firing function and cheaper, but the developer highly recommended to use the original PS3 controller.
Any idea?
Get a on-the-go (OTG) cable and plug in your joystick (USB) or wireless joystick (via a USB connector) and you are good to go.
Ok its work i can use it in the menus of the system but how to play with it i don't have any game working with it

DualShock4 Controller/Gamepad Compatibility

From my understanding the DualShock4 PS4 Controller will work with the Shield TV when using USB/OTG cable. Has anyone tried pairing over Bluetooth?
I think the PS4 pad is the most balanced gamepad for thew type of gaming I do(mostly emu/retro gaming and occasional Android native games)and before I order one Id really like to hear from anyone who uses different types of gamepads
Yes, it works with the regular USB cable.
The PS4 controller can connect wirelessly to any android device using the closed source paid app Sixaxis Controller available on Google Play. This works quite well. If you adjust the settings and default mapping it can work just like a native Android gamepad and start the service on boot. Having tried it on my 16 GB model there are two caviats. Firstly it overrides the Bluetooth hardware to simulate a PS4, so you can't simultaneously connect any normal Bluetooth devices (such as the Shield remote). Luckily the Shield gamepad uses WiFi-direct. Secondly, for some reason the D-pad is unavailable during the gameplay of some games. This is no good for playing Half-Life 2. Also the non-default mapping doesn't play well with GTA San Andreas. Despite these issues I'm still glad I bought the Dualshock 4 (I don't have a PS4) because it's the nicest physical gamepad I've used, and the two issues I've listed are only software problems. My LG G3 running CM 12.1 nightlies can connect to the Dualshock 4 without the app but doesn't map well. Another cool thing about the Sixaxis Controller is that you can use the touchpad as a mousepad. Great for sideloaded apps. Oh and you need root to use Sixaxis Controller.
Got it. I was aware of sixaxxis for other android tablets/phones Ive used but for some reason I thought I had seen a youtube video of someone simply pairing a PS4 gamepad using the native Bluetooth pairing process. I may have been looking at a video of another device, not the ShieldTV
My Sony TV with built in Android TV has drivers for a PS4 Controllers to used via bluetooth, is there anyway I can extract the files to be used with the Shield TV?
Did you root the shield tv in order to use the sixaxis? Or did you change the master address and then pair as normal on the shield tv?

yeah I rooted my shield TV last night and using the Sixaxis appto run my Dualshock4 controller. Worked like a charm.
does the siaxais controller ps4 work with the nvidia shield for multiplayer?
The Sixaxis Controller app claims to be able to handle multiple PlayStation controllers but I haven't tested this. I can confirm that it works multiplayer using a DS4 and Shield Controller (which uses WiFi direct, so isn't affected by Sixaxis Controller overriding the Bluetooth hardware). Interestingly the DS4 now pairs with the Shield TV (via Bluetooth, without Sixaxis or root) and maps correctly as of firmware v2.1. Unfortunately it misses button presses and it's impossible to turn off the DS4 without unplugging the Shield or unpairing it (and it took about 20 attempts to pair). Sixaxis still works well but require root and disconnects all other Bluetooth devices. I'm fairly sure that you can pair DS4 controllers with Sony Android TVs out of the box.
will it work via a cable connected usb without a need for an app?
i want a second controller not sure which one to get
anyone using this with bluetooth be aware: if you leave the sixaxis app running for too long with dualshock bluetooth enabled, it may eventually disable bluetooth on your device when trying to go back.
ive been through 2 different nexus players, as well as a shield tv and all have ended up disabling OS bluetooth, even when turning off the sixaxis bluetooth, resulting in requring either a factory reset or android terminal installed and typing in some commands to get it to work again. What causes the issue seems to be random, as sometimes i can leave the app running and come back and it still works, other times it doesnt though. you can still use the nvidia controller since it runs via wifi, but the remote and any other bluetooth devices wont work. this issue is a random event and doesnt always occur, but it IS there, and its a pain to get it working again.
Perhaps someone can find a compatible app to sideload to enable/disable bluetooth in case this happens? would be much easier than typing in terminal commands.
does itwork fine wired ? and is it a better controler

Yeah, I experienced the same issues in just my first time pairing a DS4 controller with the Sixaxis app... Also, like others mentioned on here, the default layout is a bit weird (Options=Select; Share=Back, etc) which means a lot of customizing in games, etc. Also, the service doesn't always auto-start that well so sometimes it takes some time to get it 'connected and ready to go' and I don't like how the app takes over Bluetooth while it's running. The only thing I did like is that the touchpad feature does work well (as long as the app supports 'Mouse input'), but overall I didn't think it's worth the hassle if I have to this every time I want to use the controller.
BTW, in case your Bluetooth becomes disabled while using this app, the command that worked for me (in adb shell) is:
Code:
su
service call bluetooth_manager 6
Has anyone successfully paired the shield with a DS4 without the sixaxis app? My shield can see the controller (listed as wireless controller) but they can't seem to pair.

Same thing happened to me although I only had the app for about 2 hours before it disabled BT. I couldn't get it to work while installed, and i am rooted. I don't believe it works in the newest firmware 3.0.
What did you use to write those commands? Would adb minimalist work? Same app used to root the shield?

Well, I used the Nvidia Shield TV Utility App to get into an adb shell, but Minimal should work just as well. Just make sure to run the 'adb shell' command before you run the commands I listed on my post above..
I used terminal Emulator on the device and it worked great. Turned BT back on

Before rooting and buying the app I'd know if I can connect more than DS4 via bluetooth.. Anyone tried it?
thanks!
