Made ReLaunch the default home button action - how do I undo? - Nook Touch General

Just rooted with NookManager, and when I pressed the N button, it asked me if I wanted to use Home or ReLaunch. I picked ReLaunch, but I also set it as the default, so now when I press the N button, it goes to ReLaunch by default. Is there a way to get to the Nook Home? Is there a way to reset the default? I can't find it...

Use an app manager to clear the Launch by default for Relaunch. If you have ES File Explorer installed it has an app manager - bring up the menu and click on Manager | App manager | Relaunch | Detail | then Clear defaults under Launch by default. There are other app managers out there but that's what I have.
Once you get that cleaned up if you set the default to the Nook home next time it asks then you can use NTMM to set your buttons to either Home (to get Nook home) or Relaunch (to get Relaunch).

I went to the Amazon App Store and did a search for ES File Explorer. It found it, but when I say download, it says "Retrieving your app from the cloud" and just sits there. Even if I reboot, there's a notification that it's downloading ES File Explorer, but nothing ever happens. I know I can side load it with ADB, but shouldn't I just be able to download from the Amazon App Store?

Do you have One-Click setup on your Amazon account? Amazon requires it to get new apps from the NST even for free apps. Or you can use your PC to "Get now with 1-Click" then go back to the Amazon app on your NST and download it.

Yep, 1-click is setup fine. Still says "downloading..." but not doing anything...

I have not been able to find a version of ES File Explorer app that is compatible with 1.2.1 (Android Eclair) and that has the app manager feature that can clear default-action setting for an app.
However, FWIW, the Nook Color Tools app (which used to be installed by some older NST Rooting tools) does have an app manager feature with this "clear default-action setting" capability.

This old version of ES File Explorer I discovered works really well on the NST and includes the app manager.

Thanks, I recall having used this version (or something version very close to it) -- before I inadvertently auto-upgraded to an "expanded but less useful" version.

does MN have the nookcolor tools? if so, toggle the market apps / non-market apps checkbox and try it again...
Try going to settings, applications, and check uknown sources.
yes tried that it doesn't work maybe they will fix it as updates for manual nooter rolls out
Second the suggestion to go to Settings -> Applications -> and make sure Allow Install from Unkown Sources is checked.

[Q] App stuck "Installing". How to cancel?

I made the mistake of trying to update a custom netflix APK to the latest Netflix out of the Amazon Appstore. Ever since, I've had an "Installing notification" and the app store lists the Netflix app as "Retrieving your app from the cloud."
I've rebooted, uninstalled the custom Netflix APK, reinstalled the custom APK, uninstalled again, and booted without network connectivity. I can't seem to cancel the installation.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I was unable to find a solution and Amazon's support couldn't help me, so I reformatted the device.
Warning to others: Don't ever click "upgrade" from the Amazon Appstore over a custom APK.
I had the same problem. Not sure how I got into the position but I had 3 apps downloading from the cloud forever.
Support could not come up with a solution so the only solution was to reset the device, I had to wait until the unit had 40% charge to do that. After I reset, it has worked fine since.
I did not try to upgrade anything yet when this happened. I think it might have had something to do with GetJar which I got before it showed the Kindle Fire as a supported device (just used another 2.3 droid device)
Zathbu is right. you're better off not trying to upgrade a sideloaded apk via the app store. one of the reasons being amazon stores its apps (meaning, the ones u get from their store) on the cloud, but sideloaded apks are stored on the device. and besides, i believe the apks from the amazon app store are treated differently. i have both android market and amazon app store on my phone and the apps i get from the app store are not "seen" by the market at all (even if they are present on both places)
I pretty much had the same problem. I had side loaded an APK of an App I had previous on my Droid phone, and then decided to download from the Amazon AppStore instead (better resolution of icon!). It even nicely said that I had an app installed that wasn't registered to my account, and would I like to overwrite it. Obviously, I said "Yes". The app just sat there installing forever, and no amount of reboots would fix it, or allow any subsequent app installs. Mistake....well temporarily.
The fix is this (if I remember correctly!):
1. Click on Settings (Cog)
2. Click on More (+)
3. Click on Applications
4. Ensure Drop Down says "All Applications"
5. Select Appstore
6. Select Clear Data (this won't affect your other installed apps)
7. Reboot
At that point, you should probably uninstall the offending side loaded APK file, using the same method above (Steps 1 thru 4). Instead of selecting Appstore, choose your app, then click Uninstall instead. Then install from the Appstore instead.
Hope this helps someone.
Glad someone found a GUI method of doing this. In case that doesn't work for some people, I also had luck clearing the contents of /mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.amazon.venezia/cache/. You should be able to do that from an adb shell window, or a root-enabled file browser.
EDIT: After a quick brain fart, I realized that since that is technically on the "sdcard" partition of the OS, you should be able to remove those APKs from the cache with the Kindle tethered via the USB cable.
This is what I do, root not needed nor rebooting:
1) I use ES File Explorer to clear /sdcard/Android/data/com.amazon.venezia/cache but any file manager should work.
2a) Use settings-> applications to clear the data and force stop Amazon appstore
2b) Or use any app manager or most app2sd apps to go to the detail page for the appstore and clear data and force stop. The app manager built into ES File Manager will work fine. I only list this as the second alternative since the other way uses the built-in settings vs. this requiring an app.
3) Go to the app section/tab on the launcher then select store to restart the appstore.

You can also install a task manager and kill the "AppStore" process. That worked for me.
Worked for me!

[Q] Root with TouchNooter 2.1.31 Market won't search and other questions

I have rooted my NST v 1.1.2 with TouchNooter. I waited a day and Market now comes up and gmail will sync. While I can download from Market as long as there is an app in the "what's hot" or 'new" lists, I cannot search. If I try to search for an app, nothing happens.
Also, I can search on Amazon market place but the files will not download; on Amazon when I try to download an app I get an empty dialog box with nothing in it except a button labeled 'ok'. I did get into NookColor Tools and unchecked and then rechecked 'Allow Non-Market Apps."
SuperManager will not launch so I can't install any apks (is there any other way to install an apk?)
I saw a hint on another thread that 'Fix permissions' in NookColor Tools might be an option, but I cannot find how do do this.
Any ideas on how to fix without restoring and re-rooting?
Is there a terminal loaded by default so I can enter commands? If so, how do I access terminal?
Edit: I discovered that "Fix Permissions" is actually in the NookTouch Tools. I had to go into SuperUser to allow NookTouch Tools and then I could run "fix permissions". However, it had no effect on the problems noted above.
Thanks!
Try to install SearchMarket Ap by youten and use that to search for apps in Market.
Launch the Opera Mobile browser or whatever broswer you have and type “searchmarket app” into the search bar.
The top listing will direct to AppBrain.
Tap the big install button and it will direct to the Android Market to install it.
(this is a fix we are given for NSTGL so hopefully it will work for you also)

Dinjin, managed to install that but no reappearance of the icon nor automatic launching of Play from in-app buttons in Google apps.
The only change is that I can adjust , within settings, a new app called Google Play Services. Is this what Play normally show as in the settings?

Hi, sambaselect...
You don't specify if you're rooted, have an unlocked bootloader... or if you're running unrooted factory stock.
There is one thing you could try... Boot your Nexus 7 into safe mode - LONG PRESS the SHUTDOWN TABLET option in the POWERDOWN menu. (or the REBOOT option if you're running a custom ROM that supports an extended POWERDOWN menu).
You will be given the option to reboot the tablet with all user installed apps (ie, from PlayStore) temporarily suspended... and just the core Android apps (Gmail, Maps, etc).. and hopefully PlayStore will be available in the app drawer. If it is, 'drag' a shortcut to one of the home screens and reboot.
Sometimes, if you have a lot of apps installed, it's easy to 'lose' an app in the forest of of icons in the app drawer - you can't 'see the wood for the trees', to use a phrase.
Safe Mode is a good way of quickly seeing those apps installed to the folder /system/app and what might be missing.
Hope this helps....
Rgrds,
Ged.
PS., if you are rooted, you can use a rooted file manager like X-Plore File Manager (http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lonelycatgames.Xplore&hl=en) to check the contents of /system/app... you need to be looking for something called PHONESKY.APK - which is the PlayStore app.

[HOW_TO] [NO_ROOT] [NO_ADB] [WORKAROUND] Echo Show 15 sideload APK works with latest Firmware

Hi
it is a long time ago.
Lastweek I got the fireTV update on the Amazon echo show 15. Without this change/update no chance for me to sideload apks. Funny is before the update the firmware is V7.5.5.5 and after firetv installation it is V7.5.0.1. Don't ask me why. Maybe they drunk to much.
But it took me 20 min to find a workaround to sidekoade apks.
@Amazon_Devs: Stop reading here. DO NOT BLOCK this workaround, make the launcher selectable again and bring the same Dev functions like on fireTV! THANK YOU!
I am not responsible for any damage or warranty loss
So end of the political messages.
For the first apk i would install Firefox apk(with it you can download more apps more comfortable)
1. Open FireTV Icon
2. Open appstore
3. Get Downloader, Totalus (launcher) and Total comander from Amazon fireTV appstore
(All the Apps do not work with touch.)
4. Open App Downloader
5. Select with onscreenremote "Browser"
6. Look for a page where you can get Firefox apk. I used uptodown
7. Download the apk (i recomend Firefox)
9. Go to total comander
10.Move with total comander the downloaded file from path Downloader to Downloads
11. Open totalus launcher
12. Open the blue folder (system file explorer)
13.Klick on Downloads
14. There should be your downloaded apk.
15. Install it
Ok done
When you install Firefox nextime you will have a browser which support touch functionality and when you download the next APK it will be directly stored in the Folder Downloads
Then just repeat the last steps 11-15.
Limitations:
Getting permissions is like Russian roulette storage is no problem. Special rights or higher permission can't confirmed in the system settings.
Dev options are available but it is the same **** as before.
Ok so now to the use cases:
I use this (now) awsome 15.6 zoll screen in my citchen to controll everything via homeassistant.
If you a owner of a Fritzbox Cable you can install Fritz TV apk direktly from AVM and you get a nice TV.
Homeassistant (you can enable in the app settings stay activ)
Spotify
Firefox
Total comander as an apk (not the Amazon appstore version. Remove it and install total comamder apk and you can controll it with the touchscreen)
I tired Nova launcher and Microsoft launcher
F DROID Can't install apks
Playstore (I think they have put playstore on a apk blacklist)
Uptodown can't install apks
There is some days ago another manual the suggested using Makrodroid for automations. May Tasker as well.
Also a APK which creates a storage via wifi. So with it you can transfere files from a PC to the echo show and the other way round.
Open Points:
I installed Wolf Launcher aka launcher Manager for FireTV. This launcher request the standard app for Settings.
When someone here is able to create a app which request the standard settings app and will open a selectable app like a launcher or whatever. The settings button can converted to a custom shortcut.
A custom linageOS ROM would be nice but I think
the kernel source for CPU AZ2 (some informations about processor) is not released and there is no way right now to install twrp. Correct me if I am wrong.
Some more blabla:
Echo Show 15 opened: teardown echo show 15
Her is written the hardware price is 309 Dollar. I bought it during blackweek for 199 and if you have a old echo you can make a trade in and you can get 25% discount on top.
Sideloaded apks listed in firetv as grey/black fields so you don't know which app is the correct one.
This could a workaround: Workaround icons
I also bought the usb network adapter to connect the device by LAN and I am thinking about a POE powersupply it.
There are two more guides out there:
Guide 1
Guide 2
Appdownloader became unavailable yesterday morning - if you try to install it the icon doesnt say GET - it just says unavailable. Any other workarounds for adb?
Hi
May the wifi ftp app could work or the other Downloader App but both are not for free or do it like in Guide2
I used the WiFi Transfer app in the store - then you can use the built in File Manager thats on the Show to install the APK's - Since they removed Downloader, this way is the second way to do it - and a little tougher to disable without a firmware update, assuming they remove the built in File Manager to install apps.

So, I am really new at this for the Show 15, but I am learning.
The wifi transfer app worked to get my apk on the show 15 and I used Total Commander to move it to the Downloads folder.
When I install it though it doesn't show up, as if it didn't install.
I don't remember what other app I used to try to install it, but at some point I got a message saying that I didn't have permission to install apps from unknown sources.
What am I doing wrong?
You need to use an app that is a trusted installer - the original method worked since Downloader has this, but all the other file managers do not. So, using Total Commander and go to system apps (scroll down a bit on the left side) - Open system apps and then on the right hand side, scroll down to File Manager (it may just say file). Then Click the virtual remote enter button and hold it for a bit, after about 2 seconds the upper right hand corner will show a new icon, it will be the first icon in the 4 icons in the upper right. Using the remote clik the new click and it will open up the File Manager - Install from there

Thanks so much for working with me on this.
When I open Total Commander there is a list on the left.
The last one is - Installed apps
In that folder there is a File Explorer 1.681A and one that I think I downloaded - File Explorer for Fire Tablets & TV (File Manager App) 1.0
Using my Fire TV remote and holding down the ENTER button a menu pops up:
Launch app(main function)
Copy via bluetooth
Delete
Properties
Copy to clipboard

You're my hero! This is great!
Excellent - Glad you got it working... I ordered another one since this works, hoping it gets here quickly before Amazon figures this one out and disables it in some update. I think it would require an entire system update to disable since its a system app.
Hi,
I've try to install something since Downloader is KO but.... how what dit you (@HypnoticGuy ) do to install it ?
tried installing the same way but there is a new message "unable to install apps from unknown source".
Is there any way around this? seems like Amazon blocked it all.
need to know before sending it back as it is useless for me if I cannot side load anything on this...
When do you get the error that you cant install apps from an unknown source? I can still sideload apps using the built in, system file manager, but I havent updated since it worked (assuming Amazon did updates)
Amazon updated and removed the built in file manager so you can no longer install APKs by opening them with it. I’m not sure what to do now and may just return mine until this gets sorted out. Wish I could downgrade the OS, but it seems unlikely
adb sideloading may be one idea, but enabling developer options does not show adb debugging menu anymore.
Hello everyone,
I got an Echo Show 15 as a gift for Christmas and then brought it to the software version at the time. So Firetv was on it but I didn't do anything else and since I still haven't tackled the wall mounting with cabling, it hasn't been switched on since then.
My question would be: Is there a way to block it so that I can install the kiosk browser or will it still force the update on me?
I have Pi Hole but have no idea what to set there!
Of course, I don't dare to put the device into operation now either
does anyone know?
