So I know this isn't nexus 4 specific . but I am using one ..
People have always told me that swiping away apps doesn't close them. I disagree.
If I open an app . then swipe it away . you can watch it reload .. Also open an app and go to running apps or cached apps and you will see it there
Now swipe it away and it will disappear from running or cached .. Surely its closed now ?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
It closes it as much as Android needs it to?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Yeah, it basically says to the app "Please close?". The app can agree politely, ignore it entirely, or anything in between
Swiping is similar to a close with the back button.

Its more like killing the app ONLY if the app I unnecessary. For example, if you clear the browser after the use, android will get rid of it from ram but if it is light flow or setting app which needs to be ran the whole time, the app doesn't close.

I have android browser (aosp) installed on the N4. Google is my home page and when I tap the browser, Google comes up and starts refreshing the page every millisecond. It just started happening when I upgraded to 4.2.1. I'm rooted, stock, installed apk to /system/app, and changed permissions.

So you're saying the page refreshes a thousand times a second?

I know what you're saying. to explain further, the page doesn't fully reload, however the loading bar continually shows that it is reloading the page.

I'm having the same exact issue on my htc amaze. It started happening when I flashed a cm10 ROM. I decided to go back to ICS and did a full wipe but my browser has been reloading ever since. I'm thinking something didn't get wiped from jellybean when I went back to ICS that is causing the browser to misbehave.

i'm new to android. on IOS there is a cydia app called "backgrounder". i loved it because it let me redefine multitasking rules for certain programs. for example, for most programs, i made it so that the OS kills the program anytime i exit using the home button. now is there such a program for android that would let em do this? i don't want to have to manually kill app everytime, i want to make the OS do it by itself for the programs i specify.
google searches say no, but i'm still optimistic so if anyone knows, please reply.
Android does a great job of managing running applications, there is no need to kill them. If you do the app will just have to reload your battery life would go down. Also the nexus 4 has 2gb of ram. That will easily handle multitasking

I have a question. Why? This isn't an iPhone. You have 2 GB RAM. Let the OS do it's thing. If you're really worried about it, use an app like Auto Memory Manager to make the OS more agressive.
Ordered my Nexus 4 on the 13th. Still waiting.

not all apps in background are inactive though, some are actively running in the background and using resources/wasting battery life. i should not be worried about this?
You can do it straight on the phone under the development options in settings. You have to go into settings first and then phone info and tap on the build number until the tells you that you're a developer now. Then go into developer options and scroll down to apps. From there you can set it to do what you want.

Using more ram doesn't drain battery. Most multitasked apps that aren't services don't even waste battery since they are put into hibernate

Since I bought the new Nexus 7 (2013), I want to give my original Nexus 7 to my daughter.
The problem is that she is three years old
So, I want to prepare the home screen for her...
Put all the games shortcut...
Then somehow hide or remove the app drawer...
Make it like kiosk mode
But, I can still reactivate back the app drawer. I don't know, probably via specific gestures or button combination.
Is there any way to achieve this? Special launcher?
Thanks

Yeah... You could use something like apex and delete the app drawer shortcut

If I delete it, I cannot go to the app drawer anymore.
Is there anyway to password it?

you can just delete it, whenever you need it again, all you have to do is add a launcher shortcut to the homescreen and choose appdrawer.
You could use multi-profiles and create one that's restricted to those specific apps only

Kids Mode
My 5 year old has access to my N7 and I use Kids Mode. It has saved my N7 from numerous actions 5 year olds make.
All you need to do is just have the Kids mode on the home screen, she can choose it and everything pops up and the tab is then shut down to what ever you dont allow access to.
It is the best $10 I have ever spent!! Or free if you dont want to really hone into the full features of the app.
There are a few apps like kid lock(famingo) that work well for this. UT defaults to the app, but you can unlock it and use it like normal.

I seem to have an issue an I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing a similar problem or knows a fix. Basically the stock browser keeps hanging while loading Web pages. It seems to wait a bit longer than normal before loading pages more often than not. It happens both on wifi an hsdpa. I've noticed chrome doesn't have the issue at al. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Slightly off topic but how the heck do you do a rollover on a button? In any browser? I like the stock browser but I hate having to long press on a button then hit back on the soft key to get it to work! I'm no iFan but I do have to commend apple on getting that one thing right. Why does it take these android devs so long to figure this out lol.
I think the main issue is with android fragmentation, where as Apple only have their iDevices.. Gives them more control.
Op I get my note 3 later, will test it out and try a few solutions.. Hopefully there's a silly fix somewhere as I was planning on using stock browser as it's always performed well!! Have you tried dolphin? That's a quick snappy browser imo.

Played with he browser for the past half hour... Everything is fluid, fast, no delays... Smooth as butter. Very impressed!! Especially the new look for tab switching.
Are you still experiencing or has it sorted itself out?

Is there a way to save pages for offline reading? This feature was in Note 2's stock browser.
Also, is there a way to sync desktop browser bookmarks like on Chrome? Thx.

I've been playing with the stock browser for the last day or so since getting this phone. Super smooth and fast. No hiccups or laggy periods. And I also agree the new tab switching is nice compared to older versions I've used (I came from a note 1). The only gripe I have is that you can't seem to load new tabs in background. Now, every time I open a new tab, it loads upon top. Irritating, although I'll have to get used to it.

What about kinetic scrolling? Is it as responsive as note 2? Also I am experiencing this annoying issue when I click on a picture on facebook mobile website it is displayed in very small size. Chrome does not have this issue neither does the stock browser on note 2

Also something that anoyes me a lot in the note 3 is the auto fit pages.. It seems to have disappeared even in chrome. Really a bummer .. With this gorgeous screen you are left out with pages that you have to slide from side to side to be able to read a zoomed page :banghead:

Every time I press the home button from an app that I've been in for more than ten seconds it has to reload the entire thing. Also, multitasking is so minimal if I exit the browser, wait three seconds and open it, it has to reload.
When I clear all apps open there's always 1.4gb of RAM always being used. I'm on 100% stock with 4.4, any ideas?

Its likely an app you installed has a memory leak.

did you try to tweak task manager a bit?
1. enter task manager
2. press menu key > settings
3. choose "stop services"
4. select apps services you want to kill upon exiting the app
i have only core important apps kept in memory (gmail, avast, phone, messaging,...)
