[Q] Update 4.1.2 to 4.2.1 - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought nexus 7 yesterday and it came with Android 4.1.2. I tried to upgrade but when installing android is laying down and there is a red triangle on his chest. I tried to upgrade more then 5 times but everytime result is same. I don't want to root.So How can i upgrade?
Before opening new thread, i search it on internet and here. But i can't find the solution. If i broke the rules , i am sorry and i am sorry my english too.

Right at the top of this forum is a guide on returning to stock. Follow that guide and it will help you get 4.2.1 running.

Apparently, some Nexus 7's were not formatted correctly, and the update notices this and flips out (I'm not claiming this as fact, just what I have read). Once you follow the above guide you should be fine though as it re formats everything. I had the same problem and everything worked for me.

Good, I would recommend keep diving through post for your better knowledge and understanding. Happy learning

There isn't too much out for 4.2 but 4.1.2 has plenty of options. The easiest way to root would be a toolkit. You don't learn much but if you don't care that's fine. Otherwise keep reading.

I'm pretty savoy rooting and installing ROMs on my Samsung skyrocket S2. So I didn't know if there's a better way w/N7. It has already updated to 4.2.

There aren't many ROMs supporting 4.2. I think there is one that is stock deodexed. 4.1.2 has plenty of options. You may like 4.2 though so try it for a bit. Wug has a good toolkit. One click rooting. Easy

Hello,
You should try the 4.2 roms in the development area. There are stock ones with root enabled by default. I'm using scrosler's one for 3 days now and it's working ok. Better than the OTA anyway.
You do need to flash clockworkmod first to be able to flash roms.

[Q] I'm in over my head!

So.. I have a 32 GB Nexus 7, build JRO03S. Just bought it the other day. Had 4.1.1 installed, tried to update to 4.1.2 and it would restart with the android lying down with the red exclamation point.
so.. after trying to adb sideload, etc, I downloaded the Nexus 7 Toolkit. I flashed to the stock image and all my device does now is the the start screen, "Google" in the middle and a unlocked Icon near the bottom.
Yes, I went too far.. I'm a dumb noob... how do I get back to anything from here??!?!?!
Get wugfresh and follow it.
Also I'm assuming this update wasn't an ota? If it was you should have just called google

Yep.. absolutely should have.
Luckily I tried every option in the nexus 7 toolkit until one just basically installed everything.. now successfully running android 4.2
I do have another build number now though JOP40C. is that ok?
Yes, JOP40C is the 4.2 build number.
Also next time, nandroid.
And store your nandroid on your pc for next time you break it =P

This is the right forum, I used the tool kit in the link below and it worked a treat. Just make sure to read through the thread and search it if you have any queries. You can always ask for help if your stuck. Good luck

Right forum. I use MSkips toolkit for mine. I think its more user friendly. It offers an all-in-one unlock, root, flash custom recovery, recommend which boot loader is most compatible for rooting, etc. It also offers an option to download fresh 4.1.2 or 4.2 if you want to regress from 4.2 or you mess something up. Good stuff.

You can also find tutorials that will step you through the process manually.
Toolkits have the disadvantage that if something goes wrong, you will have no idea what it was doing or how to fix it.
Thanks for the heads up.

[Q] Can't install apps?

I just recently restored my phone to stock and then rooted it again, after that I installed PA 3.5 (MAY 12)
Now I am trying to install several apps that I have on my SD card, I get to the screen where it prompts me to install them, but I absolutely cannot press the install button. I did check the installation from unknown sources on. Has anyone else had this issue? I tried factory resetting the phone but it didn't help, I know its a common issue as I used to have it on my sii but it would get fixed by just reflashing the rom. In this case nothing seems to help.

It could be an issue with the new feature halo in the new PA builds. Try disabling it then installing the app.

Try copy the apk (s) to another folder & try again

I'm pretty sure the OP was looking for suggestions. Sometimes the littlest things will make difference. And before you go off on me, the post above his says "it could be" and "try" this. The OP never came back and stated this resolved his issue.

[Q] [Help] A different nexus 4 bootloop problem

So I got my nexus 4 less then a week ago. Then I tried not rooting it but I just couldnt resist, and than I got into a whole lot of trouble.
Basically I tried unlocking the bootloader without loosing data, this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41291371&postcount=28
And now Im in a bootloop, my bootloader is functional and unlocked, my recovery works but when I got into "install zip from sd card" it says that sd card cant be mounted, Ive tried cwm and teamWin and both have the same problem. Ive tried everything that came to mind:
-locking bootloader (fastboot works fine)
-changing a rom via ADB sideload (witch also works fine)
-changing recovery
-factory data reset and so on.
none of this works, storage is still not accessible and Im still in a bootloop (bootloop happens on a rom boot after the google logo). So Im suspecting that its bootlooping because it cant access sd card (It can access the system data)
Any suggestions? Ive never seen this happen, I cant seem to find anybody with a similar problem. Did I just ruin my 6 day old device?
Im scared as hell and pretty much out of mind.
Try to wipe data and cache.
Also try this if the above doesn't work.
