Net10 Sim Issues.....Anybody Else? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have had my Nexus 4 about a week and a half now. I am trying to decide what service to go with, and I have tired a T-Mobile prepaid sim and am currently attempting to use Net10 Sim with an ATT micro-sim purchased from Best Buy.
I have been having so many data issues with Net10, I would say it is not even usable. My APN settings are below, but doing some internet searches, it seems like there are Data connectivity issues with Net10? I was just going to see if anybody else has experienced this and if they found a way to tweek the APN settings to make this work. Net10 support reps have yet to offer any solution. I go for periods without any data at all while my signal is blue with an H (I am typically on HSPA+ 15 or 10). I cannot use many of my apps that require data and I have to refresh websites multiple times to get it to load.
Do the same issues exist on Straight Talk with the ATT Micro-Sim? I did not have any issues like this with the T-Mobile prepaid sim so I do not believe it is a radio issue. I am trying to find out about ATT through either straight-talk or Net10 since T-Mobile does not have a signal in my wife's school. Thanks!

I've updated this setting. Data is very slow and I am still unable to use some apps that work fine on WiFi such as SatelliteGuys (works after I try several times), XDA (haven't used successfully) & SpeedTest (doesn't work says network communication issues) & DishRemote App (can't login even). Google music seems to work and I can send texts, will try an mms soon. I'm really thinking this is an issue with Net10. I've barely used any data so I don't think I am throttled. Really bad service thus far.
Assuming Straight Talk has the same issues with the ATT service? BTW, I am in the Kansas City metro area, full strength.

i used to have net10 and on some days the internet wouldn't work

Any data interruption, I would say it's AT&T service in your area. NET10 is the same as Straight Talk, once you set your APN and data works, it just works. You may want to check by borrowing a friend's SIM Tmo, AT&T or any compatible network, set the right APN, test, troubleshoot and compare. Another issue could be your radio.
If you input the first proxy, some apps/things won't work and may be blocked from access i.e. speedtest

Tmobile APN for ANdroid on SD and ENERGY on ROM?

I have an htc hd2 that has energy on rom. and Android 2.2 froyostone on SD card.
When I launch Android from the SD card it runs smooth and I can make phone calls and send txts but I can only access the Internet using WIFI
When i turn off Wifi I get a "network error" Tmobile has 3 data plans
Smartphones
Androd
Black Berry
I have of course the Smartphone data plan. and it works fine when I use the phone in Windows mobile mode but when I launch Android I can not connect
1.-DO I have to have an Android plan to use the andrroid? Is there a way to work this around
2.- Is there an app that will allow me to use The Smartphones Data plan with the android
3.- Is there a way I can use the android plan on WM6.5 if I switch to it?
I have the same problem and I can't download or send MMS.

Turn wifi off to send/recieve mms.
I am having the same problem and settings are correct. Just says "ERROR". Any suggestions?
Just wanted to point out that these are the correct APN settings that allow access to EDGE, 3G, and HSPA networks.
The information was originally provided by a T-Mobile tech on another website.
Others that are listed in the forums allow 3G and HSPA, but not EDGE.
Tmo is full of it, check your apn
I rarely post or reply but this is a subject that I've been dealing with for a while. I'm a former suncom customer with a grandfathered plan and every time I try to go for an upgrade or call with a issue the first response I get is it's my plan. Dont let Tmo sucker you into a more expensive plan. I used to unlock and flash cell phones for a living. Now I do it for myself and close friends/ family. I've had a at least one of each of the following on my plan and working perfectly... blackberry storm 1, tour, curve unlocked and bold. I've also had the mytouch 3g, g1, nuron, lg secret, and I currently use a HD2 dual booting winmo and android. I change almost daily and the only time I'm not able to receive internet or text is when my apn settings aren't correct. I bought my first HD2 outright and when I was availible for upgrade they tried to tell me it wouldn't work on my plan (unlimited net and tether for blackberry) after I told the rep to check my account and they saw I had been using one for three months I left the rep, the reps supervisor, and a tech speechless and they gave me my HD2 free of charge for the trouble. This was when they were $150.

I added a new APN called "My APN" and selected that instead on the default TMO APN. Other then not having 3G coverage in my area, my data connection works fine. There is a conflict occassionally if you have the WiFi up and running and try sending/recieving texts w/pic or large files. Simply turn off the WiFi. Hope this helps.
I've tried SEVERAL different APN settings for T-Mobile US and none have worked...
Until I came across yours. Everything is working great now. The only problem I had before was MMS, they work great.
Thank you so much for the info
I would like to ad as well that T-Mobile WILL NOT give you the APN settings. I fought tooth and nail yesterday with a rep but he refused to tell me what the settings where suppose to be.

Well, I was trying to fix my apn settings on my sgs2 import because I was not getting mms messages and I used the "Reset to default" feature in the apn menu. I got three new apn settings that replaced the ones I had put in manually. The new ones are: ATT PHONE, ATT WAP, and BROADBAND. The settings seem to match the ones that are commonly sited for AT&T "4g" phones. So my guess is that AT&T recognized something new about my phone and gave me the "new" sgs2 settings. I used to get the Cingular 410 settings. Everything is working fine now.
You may want to just try Reset to default. I have the new AT&T "4g" sim and I am in the DC area just for reference.

To anybody on a grandfathered unlimited plan or the data for non-Smart Phones plan don't do this. I did, and like the OP said, it overlayed new default settings. These setting don't work unless you're on a 4G data plan. I lost all data connectivity afterward. I deleted the new (now the default) APN settings and replaced them with a new APN I had to create with the orignal settings. I'm also guessing for this to have happened that AT&T now recognizes the international SGS2 as a 4G phone running on their network. Otherwise, why would the default APN settings suddenly change? I hope this doesn't mean the end of the (almost) free ride we've been getting. So any APN settings posted from the AT&T version of the phone will be useless unless you're being billed for an official 4G plan.

Just to clarify, I have the grandfathered unlimited data plan, have a 4g sim and had my account changed to the use the 4G SOC code : HSDPPB. So in my case unlimited data and 4g are not mutually exclusive. I am getting the same speeds (6mbs - 8mbs) as I was when I manually entered the recommended setting from the "fix your apn" thread but now my mms is working.
I am not recommending anyone do it or not do it, just sharing my experience.

Anyone on a 4G plan, no matter how they got there, would benefit from the new APN. Anyone on a 3G plan will lose data connectivity. I get up to 8MB down in a fake-4G area using the Cingular 410 APN on a 3G plan. I get 3MB down at home in an area that's not been upgraded.
APN Settings for 3g on AT&T
Hi everyone. I added a new APN using the settings that BarryH_GEG posted. I had just bought the SGS2 I9100 off eBay. It was bought at a great price. Now, when I had put in my Sim card, it was not recognizing the data network. Weird because it showed my Sim contacts and my Sim and Network info in the About the Phone section in Settings. Because of this forum, it now reads my Sim along with the 3G ATT network. I was starting to get pissed, then realized it was just the APN settings. Now everything works great. Best phone I have ever owned. Thanks again BarryH_GEG for the settings info..

For those trying to getthe i9100 ICS XXLPB AT&T settings
After reading many threads, stretching my Google-fu to the limit, flashing many modems, and spending an hour on the phone with AT$T Tech support, I found a solution and will try to pay it forward.
First roll back to XXKPA modem.
Then create two APNs.
The first:
(Enter only the listed values. Leave all other fields at their default values. )
Name: AT&T
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: 80
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPV6
APN Type: default,supl,fota,dun
***SAVE!***
Then create the second:
Name: Broadband
APN: Phone
APN Protocol: IPv4
***SAVE!***
Select the radio button for Broadband APN.
Enable and then disable Airplane Mode.
Then you will see the 3g/H+ icons flashing and you are done!

The APN depends on the type of DATA (3G/4G) that is provisioned (SOC) on each individual's account.
1) wap.cingular is the correct APN if your account is provisioned for 3G DATA
2) phone is the correct APN if your account is provisioned for 4G DATA
With regards to the 3G/H/H+ icon that depends on the cell site and not the APN configured on the phone. With GSM technology, the phone tells the cell site this is what I am capable of and the cell site tells the phone what it is capable of and then the phone utilizes the best possible option.
As an example, if the cell site is upgraded to HSPA+ the phone will display H+, if the cell site is only capable of UMTS it would display 3G.

Basically, the pta apn worked best and you have to be on the LTE data plan and have an LTE sim to use it. More information is in the thread I posted.

AT&T Apn desperate help

So im trying figure out how to get the best speeds with my N4. Always seeing the posts about how ATT doesnt auto detect these nexus devices on the right plan. So i called up, had them provision my account. Althought i dont think he knew what he was doing, he asked for my sim card number and said i was on a 4g plan. Looking at my account on MyaTT it shows my phone has Data 3GB for smartphones 4g. Im guessing thats the correct plan.
Although when i try all these APN settings people suggest i cant get a data connection with them. Trying to use the LTE\pta apn i never get a data connection. Only when i use the Wap.Cingular one. Using speed test app i get 2.5 download and 2 upload on average. People on here report much higher then that.
Any ideas?
My N4 sometimes have problems connecting to network. It shows that it's connected and I can see the small arrows but speedtest shows network communication issues. I came from LG Thrill with grandfathered unlimited data. I can use both wap.cingular and phone APN. wap.cingular tops out at just below 8mpbs while phone tops out at just over 14mbps on a good day. On bad days, both are around 5-50kbps with over 5 second ping time..
Got the dreaded ATT text early this morning that they switched me from the $10 non smartphone data plan to the $30/3Gb data pro plan.
I got good 4-7mbps speeds while on the $10 data plan. I live in Orlando and have both LTE and HSPA plus. I can hit 10-12 mpbs when I forcedy iPhone 5 to hspa from LTE.
I was using the nexus 4 on my space line with the $10 data plan.
Unfortunately selling the nexus 4 cause I don't want to pay the $30 data plan. I already pay $30 for iPhone 5 data plan so not good idea to pay another $30 for data.
Just selling nexus 4 for at cost. Don't care about ripping people off.
I hate u ATT,

Unless you have an LTE plan, you wont be able to connect to a PTA APN. You'll want to use an HSPA+ phone APN for best speeds. Remember that not all coverage areas are going to see equal data speeds. Netowrk development and congestion are factors when it comes to real world data speeds.

So should i tell ATT i want a LTE plan? Am i on the right plan based on what my myATT account is showing? Everyone who has a N4 is saying they do get a data connection when selecting the LTE APN, so shouldnt i too?
Should i do this and give htem an Atrix 4G IMEI to re provision my account? http://gdgt.com/discuss/how-i-was-finally-provisioned-for-4g-on-my-atandt-galaxy-nexus-i8z/

Server errors on almost all my apps

I just switched from tmobile prepaid to at&t prepaid (no choice, need better coverage bc I travel a bunch with work, and they pay for most of it). Ever since I switched all my Google services get a server error and can't connect, on cell data only, over wifi they connect fine. Tonight I noticed other apps are doing the same thing, like Falcon pro, things that use g+ for multiplayer, etc.
I've already tried clearing cache and data on Google play and play services. Then I wiped dalvik and cache. Didn't help. Any ideas?

Have you changed any APN settings between the time you used your phone on T-Mobile and AT&T?
sounds like your data speeds are horrible. wiping cache/dalvik has nothing to do with your issue. sounds like your issue is either att prepaid or your apn.

sounds like your data speeds are horrible. wiping cache/dalvik has nothing to do with your issue. sounds like your issue is either att prepaid or your apn.

I would agree you might be on AT&T's Edge (2G) network which sucks for doing anything as its so slow. What network shows up in settings>about phone>status?

So with these settings above, I get no mms, can't send or receive. Is there any harm to using straight talk APNs or LTE APNs even though LTE is not supported (officially) on my phone?

They only work if you have that service, same for the mobile data card APN your trying now.
Have you checked to make sure you have 4G (HSPA+), or 3G service from AT&T in your area. Could be you only have 2G service in your area. While AT&T's coverage is better than T-Mobile it doesn't come anywhere close to that of Verizon and they still have a lot of 2G only coverage areas especially rural areas outside of major cities.

Well I'm in Orlando, we have great coverage. That's not the issue. I think my default APN was messed up somehow. I called into AT&T and they wanted me to do a hard wipe of the phone. I doubt that would change anything.

My default APN settings are exactly the same as yours listed above. Also, i have HSPA 10 and HSPA+ 15 showing in about phone. Could this be one of those occassions where the location is so busy that they boot me to a slower signal? I have full bars HSPA at all times.

If your device is showing HSPA+ 10,15 then the phone is getting a 4G signal and yes if too many people are using a tower, or hogging all the bandwidth, at any given time it will slow everyone down. The bandwidth available is finite and has to be split between everyone using it. Try conectng late at night and see if you're speeds pick up.
I only get Edge (2G) at work and sending an MMS is nearly impossible, takes 20 minutes at best to send and Words with Friends won't connect to its server and that uses hardly any data at all. Could be that so many people on on the towers around you that it's down to 2G speeds even though it says HSPA+ on the phone. New York and San Francisco are a couple of areas where AT&T was famous for incredibly slow data speeds with iPhones for years because of all the people trying to use towers at the same time..

Thanks. While I don' expect that is the problem as Orlando is not really a super saturated market, it could be.
I was getting great speeds with the mobile hotspot apn settings, but obviously no mms. Can i use a different set of MMS settings as the top server and proxy settings? also I just realized I have to reset the phone every time i make a change. I probably already found a good working set but didnt do a reset. lol

straight talk on unlocked moto x

im sure a few of you are using straight talk on your x so im sharing something good. i just got my motomaker x today and activated a straight talk att sim. popped it in and used the apn they give on their site. my data speeds were garbage. i didnt some searching and found one that gives me damn good speeds at my house.
NAME: Straight Talk
APN: tfdata
PORT: 80
MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
MMS PROXY: mms3.tracfone.com
MMS PORT: 80
APN Type: default,mms,supl,agps,fota,dun,hipri,entitle
really the only thing different is the apn type. just from changing that i went up from 2mb to 12mb down. i live in a fringe area so i know those are good speeds for my location. when i travel into strong service areas i pull 30mb down.
