My first photos with the Galaxy camera. - Galaxy Camera General

I just returned from a 3-week’s trip to Singapore/Bali/Hong Kong. I had my Olympus Pen E-PL2 with 14mm~42mm + 40mm~150mm zooms and was looking forward to taking lots of pictures.
But then I saw the new Samsung Galaxy Camera and decided to buy one in Singapore as Samsung has an offer where the camera came with a second battery and a charger.
Needless to say I kept my Olympus away and used the new Galaxy Camera for the rest of the trip!
The 4.1mm~86mm Zoom has a far greater zoom range than the two lenses for the Pen E and I don’t have to bother changing lenses.
After my trip to Bali & Hong Kong I have to say I’m very impressed with the performance of the Galaxy Camera. I was able to try out some of the Smart features like Panorama/Landscape/Macro/Night etc.
I even shot a few video clips of the Balinese Traditional Dance at night without supplementary lighting.
I was able to connect it to the Wifi in the Hotels and Airports to check emails and browse the Internet!
The conclusion is the Galaxy Camera will be my camera of choice for taking travel pictures and in fact may be my only camera as I may get rid of the Pen E as I don’t see a need for a second camera!
Here are some shots taken with the Samsung Galaxy Camera on my trip to Bali the day after I got the camera.

great ,i love the gc smart function ,it can provide more than traditional camera.

I haven't figured out how to control the SGC from my GNote yet.
It would be a great feature to use for self pictures during travel.
I found the voice command feature not useable as it doesn't work all the time and have to repeat the commands many time for it to shoot or zoom in/out.

Cool. I've been looking at getting one and it's good to hear great feedback like this. Thanks

Thanks. Whilst the SGC may not qualify as a Pro camera it's perfect for most type of photography.
When I was younger I used to be a professional photographer (Weddings/Portraiture) but that was before the digital cameras came out!LOL
I also had some Canon EOS DSLR with lenses + grip but over time found the DSLR to be too heavy to carry around when I revert back to being an amateur. Later I got the Olympus Pen e-PL2 with two lenses and even found that to be too bulky for daily fun shots. My Note does take nice shots but it's too limited. Now the SGC is the perfect camera for my use. It's small, quick, fantastic zoom range, fill with special effects and it has Jelly Beans OS and a huge bright display. Now I'm ready to just use it for all my photography needs and can truly enjoy photography.

You're in Jakarta or Bali?
In Bali instead of joining the typical guided tours I hired a driver with a Toyota Minivan to take me and the wife to see the sites we want for 8 hours per day.
It works out cheaper as the costs for the day was US$40 + $10 (tips). Otherwise it would have cost US$65 per person.
Bali is a beautiful place for a vacation.
Cheers.

yup, i also think the same as you. at first I use Canon EOS 600D, then I sold it to get compact super zoom Canon SX260 HS.
my decision based on... I almost never take picture using the bulky DSLR,,, LOL...
and when SGC came out, I sold the Canon for SGC
I live in jakarta, but travel to bali frequently

Pixs of my Daughter

These 2 pixs are of my daughter I am posting to show how good the basic camera in the Vibrant is. These were my 1st try at this. I used a prism and Held in front at a distance to make the effect (free hand holding, that is why not perfectly clear).
Kinda cool ... this little camera ... is quite good

You should get a GOOD camera and compare the difference. You probably won't say the same thing after that.
Canon g11, Canon s90, or something equivalent (not all cameras are created equal)
^ Why would a $350-500 ACTUAL camera be a good comparison?
Those are cool shots man. I took some pics while in Alaska that blew me away at how good they look, even on a large pc screen. Very impressed with the camera as well.

What is your point? The SGS takes great pictures. Of course the S90 and G11 may take better pictures in certain situations, but the point of a camera phone is its always with you.
I went to a car show last weekend and brought my SGS and a Canon SD780IS. I ended up using my SGS the majority of the time because the pictures were amazing given everything was outdoors.
Have cameras
Since I do have a Canon G 11, Nikon D200 and D90 and I have to use all for my work They are all great cameras. The G11 is the best point and shoot out there) The comparison is not to compare cameras that have a 2.8 lens (1"+ aperture opening size) to one that is 1/16" lens, that is an incorrect comparison. The correct comparison is comparing to the other phone camera out there and this one is pretty easy and pretty decent compared to the 1/2 dozen I have had in the past.
WTf do you guys want me to tell you? All of you are harping and going on about a cell phone whose photos are not as good as digital cameras that cost the same amount

Uh, because that is what a Vibrant costs?
Maybe you guys think that diffraction-limited, low dynamic range, under-saturated photos are great... but the only time I pull out any cell phone to take a picture is when I don't have a real camera with me.
They aren't horribly bad photos, but they aren't anything to write home about. You could get photos of the same quality from a $90 el cheapo digital camera.
If you make a post saying "hey, look how awesome these photos are", and the photos aren't awesome... then maybe its stupid of you get angry, eh?
Are you serious man?
Here I was thinking we were on a forum for phones.....
The effect
The point was showing the effect with a phone cam is possible and was kinda kewl not a rhetorical argument about the photos per-se I guess I should have mentioned I modified the camera app software as well, but I figured most of the ppl here would have already guessed that.

so you want to compare a $500 device that is practically a portable computer with a 5MP camera attached to it to a $500 device which is a PROFESSIONAL CAMERA with probably 12+MP.
Yeah thats a comparison. shut up.
The point the author and the rest of us are trying to make is that the pictures are amazing for what it is.
My girlfriend has a motorola RIZR Z3 with a piece of crap 1.3MP camera. she takes lots of pictures with it and sends them to me, and ya know what, they look pretty good coming from that piece of crap camera.
But when she sees the pictures i take with my nexus she's amazed that they came from a phone. Now do they look as good as the pictures from my olympus or nikon? hell no, but they sure as hell look damn good when you say they came from a phone.
And not everyone likes to carry around a big DSLR everywhere they go too. Hell i went up to Washington DC for a week long vacation and i didn't bring that thing along because of how bulky it is.
The man wanted to show pictures that in his opinion looked pretty good considering it was a cellphone. Im pretty sure we all know that for a fact cameras are only designed for quality pictures..and the only point you people are proving is how none of you care to show the world that you all waste your time with pointless arguments

Being realistic....a phone camera is just that, a phone camera.
Maybe in 5 more years they will take good pictures, but for now, not a single one is worth it to use as anything more than just a "it's all I had with me at the time" type camera.
My 10 year old Sony F550V blows my Vibrant out of the water in pic quality. Of course it has a real Zeiss lense....but hey

Looking for opinions on camera, especially from parents

Hello, all.
I'm looking at getting a N3 and am currently using a N2. The camera of my smartphone has become an increasingly important feature now that I have kids, the main targets of my picture taking. I have a 2 year old and a 3 month old. As some of you know, toddlers move A LOT. I'm wondering if anyone can chime in on using the N3 camera for photos of kids and if not, just looking for opinions on the camera in general. If you previously used a N2, I'd be interested to hear how you think the two compare. Thanks!
I have a 6yr old and take pics of her all the time. The camera works perfectly and is much better than the Note 2 (which I also had). I think you will be pleased with it over all. You can also take video in 4K resolution. I did this at night (had some lighting) and turned out awesome. It's been a while since I've taken picks with my N2 (still have it) but the N3 can take pics at 13mp (13mp is not wide screen 9.6mp is though). I also have the gear and use it quit often to take those "quick moment" pics and it takes great photos as well.
Take a sec and hit thanks if I helped or if you're in a good mood!
Hi mlin, the pictures on this phone can be amazing. Having said that I gotta say that I enjoyed the camera on the note 2 a little better.
The reason being is the stabilization they use is not good for snapping a quick picture. So you have to turn that off and most of the time I go into sports mode to take a picture of my kid. So while the note 3 does take better overall pictures it is a lot of hassle to get the settings right. Plus for me the camera never stays on sports mode. But one bonus is the stabilization feature does take better night time shots on the note 3.

This is a little of what I was afraid of, I was reading that the picture to picture times were slower than the N2. Is the pic-to-pic time faster with stabilization off?
With stabilization off and in sports mode the camera reminded me of the note 2. I remember my note 2 snapped pictures quickly and in focus. The focus is not as good on the note 3.

Personally the camera is the weakest part of an otherwise perfect phone.
I had an iPhone 5 before and felt that I was able to take better pictures all around with that phone.
That being said, this phone does take great pictures in well lit areas. Pictures and videos that I took while snowboarding look phenomenal [again, well lit areas].
However, I am one of THOSE people that share what I eat, and in turn take pictures of food [don't kill me] in low light areas. There are times when the camera works well, and others where I get flatter/grainier results.
I love the phone, and just wish that Samsung put in a larger sensor to capture more light. First world problems for me. Hoping that the camera gets beefed up in the Note 4,...which I will get without a second thought!
The camera on the n3 is better when set up correctly...I still like the N2 camera tho for its ease of use.
I have to say that I hate the camera on this phone. Not that you can't get great pics, but my kid is almost 2 and maybe 20% of the pics I get are good. Video just can't seem to stay focused on her when she's moving. The droid DNA camera handled kids much better. I don't fiddle with camera settings much although on this phone,I put it in sports mode to give myself at least a chance of catching the moments when they happen. I do notice that sports mode pics aren't as nice and vibrant.
Was contemplating getting a droid maxx cuz I was so annoyed at this camera and wanted the nifty voice activation features...

Thanks, I ended up getting the N3 and so far have been really pretty happy with the camera. Having stabilization on really kills any opportunity to capture multiple pics in succession but I noticed with it off and in decent light, the pics still turn out pretty nice.

I did take a pic in a dark restaurant the other night and while the picture wasn't noisy or grainy, the lighting turned out really weird. I guess this camera isn't as dummy proof as say the camera in the iPhone, S3 or N2, but it certainly has potential to be really great. I've taken some amazingly clear pics with it so far.

My 2 year old daughter is by far the most difficult subject for pictures. So far I've been pretty happy with the pics of her that I've captured, and they're certainly as good or better than what I was able to get with my N2 but there is definitely room for improvement, I'll let you know if I find good reliable settings for capturing good pics of an active toddler.
Best bet is just to mess around with it and take pics in different lighting like you have and change settings to see what works best. Glad ya like it so far though. I've had mine since release and still think it's an awesome phone.

Time to say goodbye and look to the Galaxy K Zoom

As one of the first to own one of these cameras on launch day, I have been pretty much promoting it everywhere and certainly contributed a lot in these and other similar forums. But as time has passed it's evident that Samsung has no love for this first edition as they have failed to keep it updated. Even the second edition offers little improvement, just a slight memory increase and minor CPU increase,it still runs Jelly Bean. It's a real shame as these two had so much potential.
The Galaxy Camera takes superb photo's but the interface lags and the start up is slow and it lacks so much that Kit-Kat could fix. Then there's the various scene modes found on the Galaxy S4 and S5 that aren't available on this capable camera.
So.. I recently played around with a Galaxy S4 Zoom and apart from only having 10x zoom rather than 21x and slightly smaller screen the whole experience seemed better. Which prompted me to look at the upcoming GALAXY K ZOOM. Released this week in the UK sporting a 20.7MP camera, better connectivity, double the ram, faster processor, much better battery life, Xenon and LED flash, NFC, many more scene choices, Android 4.4.2 and a lot more specs too many to mention... all in a lighter smaller chassis, and all for £360 (and includes a case thrown in for pre-orders worth £20) means I am done with the Galaxy Camera and today I have ordered the K Zoom.
I hope things for you guys improve, but I wouldn't be holding my breath sadly.
So, farewell Galaxy Camera forum, it's been nice knowing you.
I want to order a Galaxy K Zoom to try in the US but I'm not able to buy one because they won't ship to US. You'll have to let us know how it is.

It is, but I need a pocketable camera that can also make and receive phone calls and is much more likely to be updated by Samsung. The original camera was once snappy but it just failed to be updated making it sluggish and buggy. The pictures I have seen taken from the K Zoom are just as impressive as my GC1
I am receiving it tomorrow and will post up a small review here.

So, I got the Galaxy K Zoom yesterday and my first impressions are WOW! It has far exceeded my expectations in many ways.
The build quality is really good, it feels solid and it looks really nice (I have the black one). I thought the screen might be sub standard being only 720p but it really is sharp and bright and although super AMOLED the colours are not saturated at all. They have got the balance right in my opinion and the size is right too. It doesn't feel particularly bulky or heavy and the casing is grippy.
I didn't have a lot of time but I did a quick comparison test with photographs taken from it in the same spot with my Galaxy S4 Zoom and the Galaxy Camera. I have to say the shots on the K Zoom at 10x optical were on a par with the Galaxy Camera and better than the S4 Zoom. I also tried 20x zoom that's 10 optical +10x digital and the results were far better than I expected, actually they were great. Low light level shots came out better than the Galaxy Camera as did the video recording.
There are tons of scene modes and not forgetting the excellent AF/AE mode – This lets you choose separate parts of the picture to act as exposure metering and focus points. The only thing missing oddly enough is the tilt shift (or selective focus) as seen on the S5, I am not sure why that wasn't included. I also thought there was mean't to be an LED flash in addition to the Xenon, for video use but that's missing and there's no notification LED. But no great loss.
But overall, it a massive improvement over the S4 Zoom and it's definitely good enough to replace the Galaxy Camera. It's pocketable, has full mobile phone function, better screen, battery life, interface and Android Kit-Kat on board. Missing only a tripod mount (I bought a JOBY grip tight to solve this) and that extra 10x zoom.
I have only been using it for a day but I am bowled over. I have no regrets replacing the Galaxy Camera with this baby.
Photos? Of the phone/camera and from the camera?

Fore 21x optical zoom to 10x seems like a poor trade off for enhanced features else where. Anyways I'm glad most of the market share your opinion because it enabled me to pick up the galaxy camera 2 for 200 bucks cheaper!

Note3 cam is very unrealistic its acceptable only under strong sunlight ... It has a very bad dynamic range too.. With a very high contrast ratio. Not to mention rediculous low light images even with flash on the images are so grainy and the least movement makes it blurry.
I have s4 zoom too .. But stupidity I blowed air into the cam to remove dust it sadly stucked in between the lens and makes visible gray dots all over the image not to mention how laggy it becomes after installing viber facebook twitter and whatsapp
Am ready to swap with the Kzoom when its released in my country.

I bought my K Zoom today in Hong Kong.. this thing is amazing. I would say NEXT version Samsung will nail it and make it perfect.. but this is a huge improvement over all the previous variants of Samsung's camera/phone combined.. can't compare. The only thing this needs to be perfect in my opinion, aside from snappier processing because this "6 core thing" is all hype and few punch, is a smaller zoom because 10x is not necessary and too bulky, and a larger sensor.. from the few snapshots I've taken today low light performance is still just soso. But I must say under good lighting conditions the image quality is fantastic and the optical quality of the zoom lens itself is extremely good. I will try to upload some photos later or tomorrow.. And needless to say I am eager for recovery and root as this has some serious limitations till then and endless bloatware that needs out..

Zenfone 2 Camera vs Gs6

I took some comparison photos between the Zen 2 and the Edge. All shot in auto mode
https://plus.google.com/+PatrickHill/posts/TPyACy8dr9b
Hi Pat,
Thanks for the comparison. I was dreading moving from my trustworthy Z3 Compact to the Asus Zenfone 2.
Now, not so much! Your shootout really helped! I'll miss the waterproofing though..
This was completely against my expectations. Up against the best smartphone camera, it seems the ZenFone 2 stands up pretty well in good light. Maybe I'm spoiled by my DSLR. Are you able to take any shots in low light?

Goodness, how do those cars get out of their parking spot. They are so darn close bumper to bumper on the street it is no way for them to get out
s6 camera is clearly the winner. Zenfone camera looks dull with noise
S6 camera is much better, even with firmware update. ZenFone still oversaturates the images, and zoom images still suck. But that's ok.
Great job on doing the comparison, would love to see similar on low light condition.
Yeah, unfortunately Zen camera seems to wash out red/brown colours while over-saturating greens. Also has a tendancy to over-expose shots. But frankly comparing the camera on a sub $200 to $300 phone with something that costs about three times that is a bit daft. The Zen camera is not brilliant but is more than good enough for a phone camera in a budget phone.

(That's not a dig at the OP, by the way. It's a good yardstick to get a real appreciation of the strengths and limitations of our phone's shooter. Just not anything to be bothered about that it falls short in comparison.)
Do you think any 3rd party camera apps will help? Like camera+
The camera is one of the things that I feel like has improved since release. It's really a solid shooter for the money and package you get. Generally Samsung and other manufacturers cripple cheaper offerings with something really sub par. The OPO was another device that ended up taking really nice pictures as it matured. The ColorOS camera coupled with the device was a boon. The stock Asus camera app is so far the best experience I've had in the last few years with unlocked devices (Nexus/OPO).
the camera app is super buggy I don't know if is problem with my device or with all but anyway its a garbage

Galaxy S7 Comparison with Nikon D3300 DSLR Camera

Hi, I'm made comparison with S7 and Nikon D3300 DSLR Camera, both devices are set on Auto mod. The Galaxy S7 has proved to be very good in compression with DSLR.

If you have suggestion or some idea what would you want to see next write here! :highfive: :good:
Interesting comparison. I'm a photographer and shoot with a Nikon d7000. On my recent travels to Australia over the summer I found those moments when I had the camera in my backpack and I needed to take a quick snap my galaxy s7 was more than capable and has produced some excellent images for me so I'd agree with what you are saying in terms of a point and shoot the gs7 really comes up trumps

Good comparison video, I'd say in some shots the S7 looked better, the main places the NIKON won were zooming in on the images, the higher resolution really shows up there, but overall considering this is a phone vs a DSLR, it does pretty damn well
Thanks , Yeah S7 camera is very good. But DSLR have more settings in manual mode

Would be interested to see some manual mode comparisons too
Take the best quality shot possible with Nikon vs S7 in manual mode using all features each device has to offer, day and low light/night
dslr has also different lens dimension, no phone can be compared with such a camera

Funny, because it just has been, above ^^
wait for Canon fans, buddy
Looks you're using stock 18-55 lens, right? those ones are very dim. on my old D5100 I'm suing 18-70 and it's a whole world of difference. You know what? Should I make the same shoot-out with D5100 and S7 and send you the pics? PM me if interested.
But in general - I was really impressed with s7 pics quality. Hands down, the very best I ever saw from the phone and well suppressed my expectations.

Yea do the comparison, it'll be interesting to see, no need for PM just post them here
S7 is very impressive camera wise, obviously it's never going to beat a DSLR but the fact that people are making comparison videos says a lot about it's quality

there are whole bunch of people in my house this week (March break in Canada). I'll try not to forget to do that during coming weekend. If I'll forgetr, PLEASE remind me.
BTW, should that to be a video like you did or just a set of pics?
