wishlist for this phone...

i love this new phone and new os but some things are really annoying and i hope they will be fixed in a future software update
no custom ringtones and no seprate volume control for ringtones this really sucks cause if i turn down the game or music volume it turns down the volume for everything.
playing a game like need for speed and hitting that stupid search button will kick u out of a game ur playing.
setting wallpaers u cant set a full wallpaper u always got to crop the image first i hate this.
no turn by turn directions for maps.
the dialpad and message theme kind of sucks i hope this can be changed
i would like to be able to set a wallpaper for the main screen just not the lockscreen
headphone volume output need to be way louder
the phone tile when u miss a call or get a message would be cool if it would show u who u missed a call from and if u got a text message it would show who text u and half of the message or something like that kind of like what the me tile does when u post something new
putting contact tiles if it would show messages and misssed calls alerts on there tiles that would be great
the top menu bar should always show battery lift signal if u get a txt message etc.
improvment on loading time for games etc..

I'd like more options within text messaging. I'd like the ability to initiate a call from a text message, and the ability to add a contact from a text message.

I've been a Windows mobile user for quite a while, and made a switch to Android, now to Windows Phone 7, it's great, but I agree with everything you posted, but adding a file explorer it a must. The ability to select or hide different photos that show on the picture tile, an option to hide/show the keyboard while typing (so you can see the whole screen), and the ability to turn on/off wifi, Bluetooth from the main screen instead of digging into the settings each time. Plus a few more settings, like wifi rules, (turning off Wifi automatically after unused, if you like). It would also be nice to be able to remove that little white arrow in the upper right corner of the main screen, it takes up so much real estate on the main screen. Landscape mode on more screens would be nice too.
Oh, and the option to remove an account, I already have a Windows Live account that I don't use stuck on the phone. I don't see a way to remove it, and cant' change the email address or log in id info, only the password.
I'm sure updates will be rolling out to resolve some issues, or possibly apps.....??

you can just add a second windows live acccount and disable the first one by unchecking everything effectively disabling it. I wish you could delete the main one too. However, I posted this somewhere else, the phone got corrupted and after i did a hard reset and connected to my computer, the Zune software restored all my programs (in the backgrouind without my knowledge) and all was good again. There are some bad reveiws of this phone on youtube, but some of the reviewers got it all wrong. For instance the screen resolution for movies is EXCELLENT. It takes the zune software a long time to convery and copy some movies but worth the wait. There are some bugs and some things could use improving. I would say the one thing that bugs me the most is when you zoom in on a net page...the text could be sharper. But I can live with it. All in all the phone is a pleasure and I look forward to the updates.

Thing i dont like about video watching is Netflix over 3G is good quality.. but youtube is crap over 3G. There NEEDS to be a setting for this. Its just a hub extension, but hopefully something gets fixed.

A lot of your suggestions are for the OS, not the physical phone.
It would be nice if the OS could utilize the awesome speaker on the phone a bit more. For example, speaker phone is pretty weak. I also dislike how if the speaker is not slid out, everything is muffled. I guess they expected the sound to reflect better, but it just doesn't.
That's really all I can think of besides the lack of a microSD slot that's visible anyway. I'd take my phone apart to see if there is one, but I don't have a torx bit small enough.
Besides the OS limitations, I think the phone is awesome.

I second this. One of the things I miss most from my Tilt2 and all other winmo phones have been the blinking notification light.

definitely need to be able to explore the phone. more wifi options would be nice as well. also the speaker seems to be a bit lacking. ( sure thumps when i hook it up over the cd deck in my truck though!) I had the htc tp2 prior to this and i became completely addicted to the wifi router utility, so for me personally that would be the most important thing. if anyone knows about anything like this under development let me know. i'm always willing to donate to a good cause.

One of my teens got his old LG upgraded to a Surround for Christmas yesterday. I'd been thinking when my Tilt 2's upgrade time comes this summer I'd do the same -- but not after spending a frustrating afternoon helping him with it!
We played with it in the store several weeks ago. I think the slideout speaker is a gimmick but he's 16 and thinks it's great. We both agree the WinMo 7 tile thing is a bit silly but is FAST, and he loves the HTC Hub UI. The hardware is very good (though I'm not sure I agree with no micro-SD slot).
But using Zune software to sync is a PAIN!!! My Vista laptop took 1/2 hour to download the device drivers, then insisted on a reboot before downloading the Zune software (another 20 minutes). Then the Zune install insisted on checking for an upgrade (yet another 20 minutes) before going thru a rather painful 10 minute install.
Once installed, it was very unhappy when I changed the monitored folders, and took several attempts before it would sync with the folders I'd copied off the kiddos old micro-SD card. Of course what I was most amazed about was the lack of drag-n-drop support in Windows! What kind of lame-brained, Steve Jobs-style of engineer would nix that? (I did find the reg hack to renable that just a few minutes ago, but haven't verified it yet.)
Lots and lots of lockdowns in WinMo 7 that I don't like, as have been mentioned by previous posters. This whole thing reminds me why I disklike the iPhone's OS so much!
Maybe my next phone is gonna have to be an Andriod phone instead...

I kind of agree with all of you. Microsoft might have come into this having windows phone shut a little too tight.
However, that only means that there is more room for improvement.
Multitasking would be nice, especially ones that resonate when you dont have to see them, like streaming music. or at least faster app switching.
File Explorer is kind of important and Bluetooth file sharing too.
Tethering is not that important, but on my fuze I used to use it whenever I went on trips and the hotel tries to give me wifi for $30 a day...but eh... the screen is so much bigger, and it goes a lot faster too that I dont see any need for it, (besides plugins like java, or flash)
Oh and a definite must is the camera settings STAYING THE WAY I LEFT THEM. Whenever you exit the camera, it goes back to default. and on my phone at least, video recording goes to vga, so i would have to set it to 720p if i wanted it.

would love the call blocking and please a flash player!!!!!!!

Improvements
After Multi-tasking and copy and paste are added in the soon to be released update, I would like to see a few more additions. Flash player, Pandora, LED indicator light options for notifications, ringtone options beyond what they have allowed so far, the ability to send videos as MMS messages and a battery % remaining would make me ecstatic.

as multitask they say - future CLOUD infrastructure update .. which will allow run signed apps on cloud infrastructure .. that means = you will be allowed to create ICQ client .. part of client will run on MS servers . that part will collect ALL YOUR ICQ EVENTS .. and then send to phone via PUSH notify .. on phone side nothing will be rly changed ..coz multitask goal does not collaborate with main WP7 idea - ISOLATED ENVIROMENT FOR APPS

Keyboard directional arrows
Is anyone missing keyboard up, down , left and right arrows? I sure miss them. Lifting your fingers off the keyboard to position the cursor on a particular spot in the sentence is really time consuming and not very precise.

My only feature request for all WP7 devices is gapless music playback. I really, really hate the two seconds silence between tracks, especially on electronic music or The Dark Side of The Moon (man, I love that album.)

Wi-Fi Router
The most important thing that is missing on Windows Phone 7, no doubt, is the wi-fi router function. Today I have to walk with two phones, because of the missing of wi-fi router.
Another important things are:
- File Manager
- Send photos/files via bluetooth
- Outlook Notes synchronization
- Office docs synchronized on the Windows Live could be open on a computer and vice-versa

MMS Settings
Be able to customize the MMS Settings, some carriers have differnt tier's of internet with different APN's and it is a Necessity to have that option!!!!

Top 10 most wanted Android new features & improvements

1. Allow copy-pasting and easier editting of phone numbers in the dialer and more generally dialer improvements (e.g. have log+TF9+dial+contacts all on the same tab, similar to Sense dialer), ability to call from anywhere within Android through longpress or double tap (e.g. of home button) when no hard key is available (e.g. on the SGSII)
2. Provide a stock application freezer within the task manager (similar to GoLauncher App Drawer but with freezing instead of killing apps)
3. Offer a data toggle: Off/Auto/2g only, either as a widget or in the notification bar.
4. Better way of looking for Apps in the market, similar to Appbrain but with more focus on app rating.

My most desired Android feature? The option to run stock on any Android device.
I don't care if it's an OTA or I have to find a computer. Just let me choose. And I don't want the option to turn off whatever the manufacturer has barfed on my device. I want the clean install pure Nexus stock.
Aside from that? I want the lockscreen to actually run realtime, weather, stocks, email, etc. rather than be useless. And I don't want to tack on three other apps out of the box to get the job done. I want it working the minute I turn it on, included in all future Android releases. It's 2011.

I would like most a screen capture feature like the one iPhone has by pressing power + menu key and a better music player. Yes both of these are available on market but no too integrated to work seamlessly like the iPhone.

On your SGSII you have a screen capture feature. Just press home+power a short time and it makes a screenshot.

Yes would be nice if Stock android had that. HTC Sense already has it, so...Google should add this as a standard.

GPU rendered UI for smooth transitions, CPU does a sloppy work even if its dualcore.

as other people stated before, i would also appreciate the internet sharing from the pc to the phone, as i'm used to, coming from windows mobile. an alternative would be to be able to use ad-hoc wi-fi, so that i could build a network bridge through my netbook to my wired network. that's something i miss every day, as in certain spots of my house, i don't receive any coverage from my wi-fi and using the netbook as a free accesspoint would be awesome.
while we are on the networking issue: can anybody tell me a good telnet client and a file explorer, that does not require root and offers the ability to access network shares or windows 7 homegroups?

this shouldn't be to hard as all android sense can already do this...

In honesty, I would like to be able to run ios apps
And game compatibilities between all Android hardware

A more standardized gaming API would be nice so we can have lots of great games like on iOS.

My Ten Cents
1. A better and customizable screen lock with many options.
2. A smarter dialer including a real T9 search engine like HTC dialers. Now that I am using RocketDialer instead, which is great for this.
3. Ability to connect internet over pc's connection when connected with wire.
4. More options for sound loudness and quality; including detailed settings for back speaker, head phone, bluetooth and incall volume settings. (This is actually number one priority for me)
5. Better Google apps integration for work especially for google docs and calendar.
6. A temperature sensor would be nice for room temperature.
7. A stronger vibrator with vibration presets
8. An easy option in somewhere, where we can say "do not turn off the screen and gps if connected to sats when connected to power source" (What do I have to do to use the device for navigation with google maps in my car connected to power source without turning off the screen?)
9. Better internet browsing; I mean we have these monsters in our hands, yet each different browser act differently on the same page, especially when it comes to text zooming and reflow; there must be an easier way of it. Plus, better flash support.
10. Better headset please with the phone; I don't want to look into alternatives after purchasing the phone.

I think HW acceleration would be the best for Android, instead of just trying to hide the lag with raw power (which isn't working). Look at WP7 and see how smoothed everything is compared to any non-GS2, and it does it with less powerful hardware.

Problems with windows 8

Just a list of some small things I've seen wrong with Win 8 so far. Go ahead and share anything you've noticed, or if you know a fix for someone else's problems!
cant rearrange tabs in chrome (the second you do, it splits off and create a new window, that cant be merged back with the original window)
never tells you how to exit a metro UI app. found out that you mouse over the bottom left corner.
all metro ui apps never seem to close for me, they are just forced into a "suspended" state. (I've been closing them through task manager)

apps dont even suspend for me. How do you suspend them? they just kept running and annoying the hell out of me -.-

They stay in the alt-tab switcher, but in reality they're just cached in memory. They don't use any CPU when suspended.
If you have touch, swiping from the right brings up the charms, which allow you to go back to the start screen, among other things. If you don't, bringing the mouse to the bottom-left corner of the screen does the same thing. Hitting the windows key on the keyboard will also bring up the start screen. What I really hate is hitting Settings on that little popup menu, and having to go all the way to the right to connect to a wifi network.
The only program I've had issues with so far is Firefox. I had to disable hardware acceleration because it kept rendering badly and freezing the system. I installed Office and Quicken, and they've been working great so far. I'm gonna be using this instead of Windows 7 for a while.

Sleep\Hibernation Problem
Windows 8 seems to have some problems with coming out of sleep and hibernation, has anyone else noticed this yet? a hard shut down is often required to become operational again.(I did install over Windows 7 to preserve User data.)

I find that an easy exit from metro and such to be the windows key. Some problems I found is that my mouse track pad on my laptop doesn't scroll along the side anymore, which is starting to get bothersome. And closing apps is awkward.

I'm annoyed by the fact that the metro ie and the desktop ie are two different things. They act as two different programs - probably because they are. Aparently the metro version will be plug in free - no flash - wtf? It kind of ruins the point of running a desktop os on a mobile device when you have to switch to the non finger friendly ui in order to get full functionality. You fail microsoft. Hopefully Mozilla will release a metro-fied version of firefox. I hate ie anyways.
I'm trying to make this more finger friendly. I've got it running very nicely on my aspire 5610 hybrid franken notebook (the motherboard came from a european version with a geforce 7600) I installed the synaptics multi touch track pad drivers but it's a bit sluggish using gestures. Two finger scroll is slow and imprecise and three finger swipe is hit and miss but it is better than nothing. I want to reach out and touch this os. Anyone know of a good way to add multi touch to a notebook? I've been hunting for a 15.4in capacitive overlay to tuck in the screen bezel but can't find one. Other than that all I see are camera based solutions that seem a little iffy...

I just mentioned this in another post, thought I would re-post for convenience.
alt+f4 closes metro apps and will shutdown windows. Just like it has in previous versions of windows. When you close apps you will need to window key back to the start screen but the apps wont be cached or suspended.

I have to disagree with the above, Alt+F4 does NOT close Metro apps. (at least not for me.)
Metro is most definitely a separate application, since Win+D forced it away and gave me the desktop I know and love. Since Xbox Live is coming I would guess eventually the Start screen is going to see some form of Kinect integration... (which is sad because I don't really like Kinect for more than perhaps pausing/resuming Netflix)
And as for problems, anyone tried to access a folder you have to give permission for first? I end up hanging Explorer because I can't click "Continue" on that dumb permission folder. And with the "new" control panel I can't find where to turn UAC off.

well i installed windows 8 devloper preview and I must say that it sucks big time .
dont want to comment more as going to uninstall it ,for those who want to test it dont do it stay happy with windows 7

I disagree. Makes for a new look, boots faster, internet explorer 10 is great. Its brought a7 year old PC back to life even more so than windows 7. Just needs a little bit more work. By the time the release date rolls around it should be much

On my W500, it flies compared to Win7. As a WP7 user, I am into the metro look and style, it works well on a tablet. I installed on a spare laptop and the experience is diminished purely by having to use that horrible horizontal scroll bar at the bottom...god I hope that is gone by beta.
I thought that pinning apps to the metro screen (do we call that the start screen now?) would be as simple as press-hold on a app/program in the apps list...but that doesnt bring up a 'pin it' pop-up. You have to navigate to the prog file in explorer...another thing that should be as intuitive as the phone but isn't.
As a replacement for the traditional desktop, metro takes some getting used to. No quick way to switch apps...you can swipe open apps in from the left, but you have to scroll through them all to get to the one you want. I would have expected a long press to bring you to a page of all open apps (same as back key on WP7?) but I can't find such a feature, yet.
And I still haven't figure out how to exit those open metro apps. Maybe I need to rely on Win8 app management, like WP7 to close when the mem gets full?

I have to agree. I love the new setup. I don't have a windows phone, but I have thought for a while that it was certainly the best layout option for smartphones.
Certainly, there are some bugs, and it's in desperate need of more apps, but that's the point. The iso wasn't really put up to be played with. It was put up so that we can make apps for it. Not to mention the thought of having a fully function (i.e. I can program on it) tablet is awesome. I'm not much for these consumption devices that are the current tablet offerings.
Especially for pre-beta software, I feel that this is a really strong showing. And I'm digging the updated VS 2011. Minor changes and all, but it's definitely a little speedier as well.

Windows 8
Performence of Winodws8 is awesome but the tablet layout on doesn't sound Good.Tablet is Tablet & PC is PC.There are alot of differences between them.You can't make tablet layout comfortable on PC that M$ shuld know.

if this is the developer preview I cannot wait till final seriously. its just that good ❤ ? and emotes works w00t

well my comment is on devloper preview not the final build as definately it will come up with lots of stuff and changes so i mean to wait for the final release .
to get a proper hand on it

I'm quite pleased with it overall..
I like the new start screen, the ribbon is useful in explorer, I like the new task manager.. and the performance is fantastic.
With some polish and the new features they showed us (that this build doesn't have) I think Windows 8 will be in very good shape for launch.
I actually prefer the metro IE 10 to the desktop version.. it makes for a much more pleasant reading experience for reading articles on the web, etc and it's really fast.

Can't really say it sucks cause it's only in dev preview. There are more things will be done.
Love the Metro UI, Ribbons, Charms and the cloud integration.
Not to forget the performance and features/tool available for developers.

I really wonder windows 8 will bi good or bad, win 7 was very good because of it is a fix version of vista, but win 8 will be very new and must have erros, important point is to make them fix fast

Videos vs WMP + Mail + General Thoughs

did you notice (perhaps you know why) there is such a massive difference in video playback by those 2 apps.
I have downloaded k-lite codecs (dont know if this is a good choice for W8 but) and under WMP I got no issues, dvd rip, mkv (720p) runs smoothly - no problem (stream form NAS storage). Under Videos app in Modern UI dvd rip (same file, same NAS) was not watchable. I had sound but move turned into still, refreshed every 6-10 s.
Also, built in Mail app (even compared to old Outlook Express or Live Mail) is terrible.
General thoughts.
System is great, I like everything, even Modern UI makes sense, but (there always is a "but")
Microsoft should treat Modern UI as an optional thing. I mean for all devices with touch screen it does make sense. It completes the UI we can use desktop when we want to or have a keyboard attached but when not... Modern UI is great help
Again, for traditional laptops/desktop it makes no sense. I would make it optional to use with an option to switch it of completely.
When one is using mouse and keyboard so far I did not notice any gains from Modern UI.

I have a laptop, and I just treat the modern ui as a super functional start menu. It can do everything the old start menu can, and I use apps that can run in the background, like weather, news, messenger, and iHeartRadio/music. With a simple swipe to the right on my trackpad I can easily switch between them.
I know that the majority of apps for the modern ui are designed to be used as primary applications to get stuff done, but that doesn't work on a full computer. Instead I just ignore that and realize that tablets and pcs have the same app store.

I have Win7 right now booted (and HDD with W8 is unplugged) but I think I have noticed something about it...
Same with streaming movie on web site... if you go to do something else I think it stops - got to check it again.

With a simple swipe to the right on my trackpad I can easily switch between them.
I know that the majority of apps for the modern ui are designed to be used as primary applications to get stuff done, but that doesn't work on a full computer. Instead I just ignore that and realize that tablets and pcs have the same app store.

I understand what you say.. still on traditional desktop with mouse it seems to me that just having Desktop mode + traditional start would be more efficient.
I see the problem MS had... "If we leave Metro UI out of desktops and laptops (or leave it as an option) how do we make users buy Metro apps?". But I guess this is wrong way of thinking.
If you will own a touch screen device with W8 and you boy stuff it should appear on all your devices (right) [btw: will Metro apps show up on WP8 as well???] , so it would be on "Desktop device" redy to use if one will want to do so.
But if you mainly work in desktop mode on Desktop device why would you want/need to use any Metro app anyway/ in the first place/at all?
Even as it is ppl. will not use it in other way than start.
