Uninstalling without losing data? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a 16gb nexus and with these big apps I'm losing space quick. With the sale on I want some new apps so need to get rid of some games I'm not playing as much but I want to come back to so i don't want to lose data...is there a way of doing this or getting an app which does? I'm not rooted so root options are useless to me..
thank you in advance...

Those data were stored in /0/Android/data folder. Just choose where you wish and copy the chosen data.

backup the app data with titanium backup, then restore that data when needed

I said I wasn't rooted so that isn't an option.

[Q] Titanium pro

may seem like a dumb question but when Titanium Pro backs up system data and apps does it also back up movies in my download folder and stuff like that?

Are you rooted? Because if not, I can only help by backing up apk's of your apps to your computer.

Try Carbon app. It allows you to back up apps and their settings without root.

I didn't like the fact that you have to pay for the premium version. Storage is through USB on the N4 otherwise.

Backup using Carbon, then transfer the backup files to your PC. Then when you're ready, copy them back and restore.
Besides, what's so bad about having to pay a few bucks for such a great app? All devs work hard to make the apps/mods/ROMs/kernels, etc that they do!

Extract save files from backup

So I was playing final fantasy dimensions and my phone froze. It would not boot up no matter what I did. Mind you I had 15 hours into the game. I made a backup of the ROM just incase I could get the save data. Can anyone direct me on doing that?

How do I do that from my backup? It wasn't a titanium backup. It was a cwr backup.

Then you should have been more specific.
In the main menu, under "Special Backup/Restore" There is an option to extract from a nandroid.

Reminds me of the old days when you'd be way into your Nintendo game and the cartridge would take a crap. God that sucked.
I'm so glad I did a backup. I was thinking I would have to use my desktop to extract the save then manually place it in my android files.

Titanium backup is so worth buying the pro version of. I can't tell you how many times it has saved my life.
I got the same bug when I was playing, and did a backup, then I used nandroid manager to get back my data/sms/wifi setting

How to allow only certain apps mobile data?

I always have my mobile data turned off so that I don't get charged for it extra on my bill as I don't want random apps to be using data in the background without me knowing. I want to find a way to only enable data to the app Cerberus which can track your phone and stuff when lost. Is there a way to only enable data on certain apps because I don't mind paying a few extra dollars if that means me finding my lost phone.

If you go to settings>data usage and tap on an app in the list at the bottom of the screen, then you have an option to turn off background data when using mobile. See screenshot (it's in polish, but you get what I mean )

How?

A firewall from the play store. I recommend Android Firewall.
Edit: requires root
Use droidwall (rooted users only)
OK so a firewall did work and let me set which apps I want to allow WiFi and data... However it was really annoying because after I install a new app it would prompt me asking me to set the settings up for the new app... I don't want to keep doing this for every app I install is there any other way??

[Q] Important backups?

Hi
i have now rooted my D802, easy as hell.
I wonder if theres some important backups i need to do. I have backed up me EFS with SAManager (3 modem files, modem, modemst1, modemst2, all img) and transfered them to a safe place.
Is there something else i need to take a backup off?
Weird, my EFS backup has only the last two files you mentioned, not the first one.
