[Q] Reboot when wiping cache partition in stock recovery - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When selecting the 'wipe cache partition' in stock recovery, the system reboots after a couple of seconds. I think it used to return to the recovery menu. Is this the same for everyone else?
Running stock 4.2.1 unrooted.

Yes, mine does that as well.

It never returned back on this phone. it can stay in recovery after a cache wipe if using CWM or TWRP other than that no. But theres no need to stay in recovery if using stock, so its helpful after wiping cache. Other custom recovery yeah because it has other features..

cant flash new rom

Hi
I have a acer iconia a500 and i was trying to flash a rom using the acer recovery installer, i have dont this about 10 times but this time when i booted into the recovery kernal then wiped the chache and the dalvick cache and the battery stats then installed minimalist 3.1 it installed then i rebooted and it did not have the launcher and all my apps where still there. How can i fix this i have tried other roms same thing i need help fixing this
Not only wipe cache user data.i format partitions as well. Reboot back into car.and wipe cache again after flashing rom before booting into it first time.there is a thread about this
+1 to erica
You need to do a *full* wipe before flashing a new ROM.
if i do a full wipe will i loose all my data ie music etc also where is the thread about it?
If running it fro Acer recovery installer, just check the 'wipe data' checkbox. It won't erase your /data/media files. This is all I do when flashing a new rom. Have never had any issues.

Can't Install New ROM

Hey guys,
I used to have AOKP [v2.0] Build 31 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542302) and it flashed fine. Then today I checked again and saw Build 32 was out. So I thought I'd flash that.
I do the usual method, back up, format cache, format Dalvik Cache, then data/factory then flashed Build 32.
So when the tablet restarts it still has all my previous applications and setting also lots of apps started to force close.
So I went back to recovery and decided to do the usual again but this time restore the back up I created.
When this backup gets to 'restoring data' is says invalid and stops.
So this time I try to flash 'Android Revolution HD 3.2.0' (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1245892) doing a Super Full Wipe.
Booted into it fine however my apps are still there.
Now I can't seem to go back to AKOP Build 31 nor get rid of any apps, it just force closes.
How can I resolve this issue? I've been stuck at it for hours
In CWM, go to "Mounts and Storage" options and do /mount and /format for data, system, and cache. Clear dalvik-cache and flash AOKP.

I've done everything, but can't get boot logo of PA custom rom.

It feels like I've done everything, and now I come for help.
Right now I'm flashing the stock ROM back onto my N7 for the 5th time because every time I try to flash PA it seems to get stuck in a boot loop. And this somehow corrupts my recovery so I have to go all the way back and start from scratch.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong:
I start with an out of the box N7.
I unlocked the boot loader.
Root my device.
Flash CWM 6.0.1.0 recovery.
Download busybox from Google Play and install it.
Copy PA's ROM to my /sdcard.
reboot to recovery.
Flash the PA rom.
Bootloops ensue, recovery corrupts, and I'm back to square one.
I've been at this for hours trying different ways of doing it, but need some help. Am I forgetting anything?
Did you full-wipe?
Happened to me last time, from stock to other custom ROM(cm10), also caused bootloop but resolved after doing full-wipe.

Wipe data factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik cache, install rom, flash gapps and reboot.

defintely just need to wipe
Hold down power and volume +/- at boot. Use volume down to select recovery, hit power as enter. Select factory data reset. Might as well wipe cache while you are in there.
All set

This. Always wipe cache and dalvik. And if it's your first time with that particular ROM, do a full wipe as well.

do the following:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot -w update stockRom.zip (The zip is inside the.tar.gz and has a different name)
Thanks everyone! Apparently I was clearing all those items wrong, because I was clearing them. Different work until I tried after your suggestions. Must be something in the XDA air.
Take care, thanks buttons have been pressed.

Go in recovery and wipe the caches and data factory reset and reboot. What recovery do you have? TWRP 2.6.0.0 causes issues for some users. Try flashing Philz Touch recovery from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2281367, download the .tar file and flash with Odin 3.04 in downloadmode.

No, just flash with Odin without a wipe.
1.Pull out the battery, reinsert it after 30 seconds and boot the device into CWM Recovery: Volume Up+ Home + Power keys simultaneously.
2.Go to “Advanced”
3.Choose “Wipe dalvik-cache”
4.Now go to “Mounts & Storage”
5.Choose “Wipe /cache”
6.Reboot your phone
The bootloop should be gone now. If it still persists, do this.
1.Boot the phone again into CWM Recovery
2.Now go to “Mounts & Storage”
3.Choose “Wipe /data”
4.Choose “Wipe /cache”
5.Then reboot your phone.

If these steps don't help. Check if the rom is really for your phone. Redownlod the rom and flash it again. I tight be a corrupt download.
Also what version of cwm are you using? I read bout older cwm versions not going well with 4.3 Roms.

4.3 flashing and bootlooping problem

Hi there
I seem to have a problem flashing 4.3 roms, actually any rom that isn't stock in general.
Right now I am running syzmel's 20E with 1.3ghz overclock version 3.09.
Back to the problem: this is the steps I take to upgrade to any rom: 1. Download (slimbean, vanir asop) 2. flash v20D (unmodded) 3. Root it using Framaroot 4. Install CWM using L7CWM.zip (extracted, then clicked on flash bootloader, flash recovery, and then booted into recovery) 5. Boot into CWM 6. Click on factory reset and reset 7. Go into mounts and storage and format /system 8. Go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache. 9. Flash either 4.3 version slimbean or Vanir ASOP (tell me which is better) 9. Flash gapps (Slimbean: Slim AIO minimal Gapps, Vanir: 4.3 minimal Gapps which is found in the Vanir ASOP page) 10. Factory reset again 11. Wipe dalvik 12. Reboot
Now as soon as I reboot, either it stays rebooting, or boots once and when you reboot it stays at the boot loading page (slimbean logo, or android logo) (In other words, once you go black, you never go back. Not being racist, just saying once it blacks out it doesn't work no more). So i retry. And then I give up and stick on v20E.
So please suggestions?

Danm, yes I'm sure.
Why you dont format cache and data & data/media ?
Did you try boot without gapps... Sometimes bad gapps cause a lot of problems
