Hey I'm currently running TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 v2.3.3 with ROM Manager Premium installed and when I check for an update it says there is no update for this room but I noted that version 2.4.1 is out.
I have downloaded the ROM and moved it over to my SD card. With that said do I just install the updated version via zip file with ClockworkMod Recovery or do I do a complete fresh upgrade first and then install.
If I do the fresh update will I be upable to reupload my previous settings (widgets, apps, etc) from Rom Manager with the fact I have the premium addition or because it's a different version will this not work?
If not is there a way to do so?
Thanks in advance
is the zip you downloaded an update zip or a rom zip? I don't think you can use a regular rom zip as an update! I might be wrong, but if the zip is named update or it said that it was an update zip when you downloaded it, then you can just flash the update without loosing anything, but if you're not sure and you want to go the safe way I would suggest a clean full flash.
task 29
MGLDR
CWR
Flash
Good luck!
our devices cant use rommanager properly yet.
I'd suggest:
1) Backup everything (tita backupsms backup & restore .... + backup in cwm)
2) Flash new ROM
If you encounter lots of errors and force closes:
1) Wipe everything
2) Flash cwm and rom
3) Restore all updates except the cwm one
Okay thanks for the update. I guess I'll just update this weekend by a full update.
Thanks again

How do i update cyanogenmod without deleting all my apps and settings?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Just flash the newer zip in recovery.
So flashing the update keeps settings and apps in tact?

Yes. Nandroid JIC. Wipe cache and dalvik and just flash over.

Thanks a bunch fellas
After you flash the new CM zip, be sure to flash gapps (if you use it) and any other zips you've flashed. You won't lose your data (as long as you didn't wipe it), but you will lose any customizations that you flashed that write to /system (which would be most of them).

If you have already flashed gapps on an earlier version of CM and are just updating to a newer version of CM you do not have to flash gapps again. Just wipe cache and davlik and flash the update and kernel if you use a custom kernel and that's it.

While this does work, there have been some builds that cause gapps to need to be reflashed. Flashing gapps everytime doesn't hurt.

Step 1: get rid of clockworkmod recovery (flash "alternate" Amon Ra using ROM manager)
Step 2: download 7.0.2.1 from one of the many mirrors
Step 3: (optional) move zip to root or folder such as 1roms
Step 4: reboot into recovery
Step 5: once in recovery make a nandroid backup
Step 6: flash new zip
Step 7: wipe cache and dalvic
Step 8: (optional) while in recovery go to other>fix apk uid mismatches

I've followed the steps you describe before, and I lost everything Google related -- my google contacts and calendars were gone. It wasn't an option to add it back until I re-flashed gapps.
simple. download 7.0.2.1.. wipe your cache.. make a backup if you desire..
and flash it.
no need to wipe your data if you're just upgrading CM
Got it done. Now i can go back to using my camcorder. Thanks for all the helpful replies.

Because you want to install the 4.3 is necessary to format data (do a factory reset) BEFORE! That can be done from TWRP or CWM.
Enjoy

2) download gapps
3) I don;t know what to do with downloaded files, put to microSD card which is in phone?

Hi, you should at first update to latest nightly 4.1.2 in order to upgrade the recovery and then move to 4.3, both wiping data and cache before flashing each ROM.
1) Download latest 4.1.2 and 4.3 ( you find link to them in the OP posts of the rispective threads )
2) wipe cache/dalvik.
3) flash latest 4.1.2.
4) wipe cache/dalvik.
5) flash 4.3.
6) wipe cache/dalvik.
7) Reboot.
A better solution would be to wipe also "/data" (and /system) in step 4 using " defy ultimate wipe ":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818520.
So it would be:
1) Download latest 4.1.2 and 4.3 and defy ultimate wipe.
2) Reboot
3) Wipe cache/dalvik.
4) Flash latest 4.1.2.
5) wipe cache/dalvik.
6) Reboot
7) Reboot
7) Wipe everything (/system /data /cache /dalvik_cache) defy ultimate wipe ( DO NOT REBOOT BEFORE doing the next step )
8) Flash 4.3.
9) wipe cache/dalvik.
10) Reboot.

Got to say that I try using CM10.1 & CM10.2 in the last week,
I got the same device asyou and to tell the truth, the CM10 (android 4.1.1) is the best for our defy's!
works good, no crashes or any other problems...
If you still think of trying it - go to youtube and look for- defy install cm 10.2
take a look at some of the videos.. it will assist you.
good luck!
thanks for replys
I am using CM10.2 vor few days now, and quite satisfied.

Minimal gapps on TJKV's thread, couldn't you see the OP? http://d-h.st/fTT
Hello Fellow XDA's,
ANY LINKS THAT YOU SEE IN THIS THREAD ARE OWNED BY THEIR RESPECTIVE OWNERS I MADE THIS TUTORIAL FOR THOSE WHO COULDN'T INSTALL THE CYANAOSP4.4 AS EXPLAINED BY DEV!!!
BELOW YOU CAN SEE THE OTHER METHOD:
1. IF YOUR FRESH INSTALLING:
Root your I9000,
Download the latest cm 10.2 nightly (link below),
Download the CYANAOSP ROM4.4 (link below),
Download Gapps4.4 (link below)
Download all files to your desktop and don't copy yet to your sdcard,
Open the CYANAOSP WinRAR and copy the updater.sh to your desktop,
Extract cm10.2 rom zip and paste the updater.sh it'll ask to replace that folder and click yes,
After that zip up that modified cm10.2 folder,
Now copy the modified cm10.2, Gapps4.4 & CYANAOSP4.4 to your sdcard,
Go to recovery,
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Flash the modified cm10.2 it should reboot while your installing and you'll see like the cm logo and it will bring you to the recovery,
Flash CYANAOSP4.4 and then the Gapps
Reboot & Njoy!
2.COMING FROM ANOTHER ROM:
Wipe data , cache , dalvik cache (required while changing layout)
Format system and datadata (required while changing layout)
Install CyanAOSP ROM.
Install my Gapps package (required) , link below.
Set up the ROM and leave it alone for 10-15 mins.
Reboot again and enjoy.
IF YOU GET ERROR DURING THIS PROCEDURE THEN TRY THE FIRST METHOD BUT FOR THAT YOU FIRST NEED TO FLASH YOUR DEVICE TO 2.3.6
If you have any queries or questions do not hesitate to ask!
SPECIAL THANKS TO:
ts1506 for the ROM
darkknigh_t for extra help

Hi,
i don't think so. You will get the same result when you wipe everything 3 times (Cache , Dalvik , Data) and flash a 4.4 Rom.

I'll start from the beginning, as if you had just bought the phone. Custom 4.2, 4.3, 4.4 should also be fine.
0) Update to last official 4.1.2 JB to avoid any oddity with older android versions (such has SuperBrick bug)
1) Root the phone if you didn't already
2) Backup (if needed):
programs with Titanium
messages with SMS Backup & Restore
EFS partition
3) Move all your data and backups to external storage (SdCard, USB OTG, computer)
Repartition (from recovery)
Install a decent recovery (TWRP is also good)
Boot into recovery and flash one of the provided zips. Personally I used the one you can find in the bottom of this post.
Wipe Cache, Dalvik Cache, Data, emmc (Internal Storage) and System
Repartition (from Odin)
Download Odin 1.85 (drivers)
Download 768 MB small preload .pits. I personally use the 6GB version but de gustibus
Download last tar.md5 of PhilZ Touch recovery ¹
Open Odin, put the PIT file in the namesake and the kernel in PDA
Press start and wait.
Boot into recovery and enter make_ext4fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 command in adb shell
4) Download latest TRIM-FPBug kernel by Lanchon for CM12.1 on i9100²
5) Flash CM 12.1 with the same build number
6) Flash the previously downloaded kernel and gapps (avoid anything above mini)
7) (optional) Update to latest baseband
8) (optional) After first boot, force TRIMming
doesn't work results in brick. but recoverable.
Thanks!
Only one question,
...
4) Latest TRIM-FPBug kernel by Lanchon for CM12.1 on i9100
- Found Kernel-Lanchon-TRIM-FPBug-20150824-cm-12.1-i9100.zip
5) Flash CM 12.1 With the same build number
- I have not found the same build, will work with cm-12.1-20150831-NIGHTLY-i9100.zip build?
...
Thanks!
Best Regards.

Oh.. sorry. XDA didn't automatically subscribed me to the thread.
I see the problem.. and well, I don't know the answer.
I guess I overestimated Lanchon capability to keep up with new nightlies.
Couldn't you try regardless?
I mean, if it doesn't work you just need to reflash the original rom zip
Thanks @mirhl, I'll try tomorrow.

I have a i9100T (i777) motherboard with Lanchon CrossKernel and now I installed CM 12.1 for i9100.
How can I replace the Cyanogen Recovery with the CWM? I also saw a I9100T motherboard but now it show on boot i9100 logo, that CWM should I put ? That for i9100 or I9100T ? Thank you
