My Nexus 4 has crappy sound quality and I hear noises all the time, sometimes the volume is really low. Is there a way to fix this and get louder music?

Headphone volume?

I saw a post about volume issues with the galaxy nexus on jellybean, and some people were talking about certain kernels that have volume boosts built in... in fact I'm running air kernel on my ns4g which has voodoo and allows me to increase the output. Is there anything like that for the nexus 7? The headphone output isn't as loud as I wish it was. And sorry of this has been answered and I jus didn't find it, searching is easier on the computer which I don't have access to at the moment...

Anyone?
I use the app "equalizer" and set it to rock. Louder and much better output.

I use volume + (volume booster) from meltus. I have 2 N7's and one isn't as loud as the other so this app makes it so much better...actually too loud sometimes.

Microphone distortion

I think sometimes the Nexus 4 microphone is way to sensitive and gives incredible overdrive/distortion. Specifically at loud music concerts. All my videos are USELESS!!! My friend with his iPhone 4 right next to me records the same thing and his videos are AUDIO perfect. Mine are total crap. Any app that can control the microphone gain/level and quality???? Similarly to the Voodoo Sounds?
Any mod?
thanks guys
I have a similar problem I use the auxiliary cable in my car and I answer calls with it but people say they can't hear me, there has to be a way to mod the microphone

Any kernel with FauxSound will let you control the camcorder mic's gain. Turning it down should reduce distortion. Or if you are rooted you can install Ezekeel's Experience app which lets you control it on any kernel.

[Q] Increasing louc speaker volume?

Hi,
Nexus 4's loud speaker volume isn't so high compared to other phones, as you guys already know. I know that there are apps that can increase the volume. But how far can i push it? I don't want to ruin my speaker. And yes, there is a mod that increases the volume of the nexus 4 , but unfortunately it doesn't work on xylon rom, which i'm using.
Thanks

I don't see any reason to push the speaker. The quality of the sound isn't normally great. By increasing the volume, quality will decrease even further.
Try increasing the volume with about 10%. That shouldn't damage anything.
I don't care about sound quality really, i just want to hear the song lol. And i dont know if 10% makes it better.

[Q] Nexus 4 low headphones volume, any fix?

Guys, I had issues with the speaker volume, but they somehow fixed themselves. Yesterday I tried to listen to some music and my headphones were barely audible outdoors at full volume. I'm quite sure the headphones are fine, as they are rather loud when plugged into my wife's iPhone, but with Nexus 4 I get may be 1/3rd of their usual volume at 100% slider setting.
I tried to search on the forum and Google it, but could find a guide to fix this issue. Has anyone encountered and successfully fixed low 3.5mm jack volume?
I would appreciate your suggestions! Thanks!
Are you rooted?
If yes you can try an audio mod like xLouder or Viper4Android.
If not you can use poweramp to boost everything although it will probably sound like ****.

Thanks for your response!
I'm not rooted, running fully stock. I don't really need to boost *everything*, just the headphone output, it's the only thing that has low volume.

Nexus 4 mic issue

When I record video the audio is really distorted. If I'm playing loud music in my car the audio comes out really bad on my nexus 4. Is there a fix for mic gain?

Dear Blankit,
I had similar issue while recording videos from concert. It seems its a common issue with nexus 4.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046613 [reference thread]
The way I fixed the issue was downloading a custom faux kernel or any other kernel which supports sound modifications. I flashed the kernel and decreased the mic gain while recording the video. That worked for me. I did this when i was on JB 4.2 now its been a long time since I tested the sound control. Maybe you can find a kernel which lets you control the sound and that should fix your problem.
If you are on JB 4.3 then below is the thread for AK which seems to have Faux Sound control v3.

Hope that helps
Nick
