S-calendar and Google calendar - Galaxy Note 10.1 General

I am using both S-calendar and Google calendar: i like the homescreen widget for S-Calendar but I prefer using the Google Calendar app for managing appointments.
Considering that I do not want two notifications, I set notifications only in S-calendar with vibration and turned them off in Google calendar.
Problem is that every time i reboot the tablet, it resets the settings of both calendar apps: it removes vibration in S-calendar and enables notification in Google calendar.
Anyone else?

anyone?

Why you reboot your note?
Mine never rebooted.

Yea I had the same exact issue with mine. I realized that the 2 notifications in both apps are tied together. Meaning if you change one, it'll reset the other on reboot.
I wanted the notifications from S-cal and the googlecalendar app for management as well. I ended up disabling the S-Cal app entirely in the app management settings menu and instead using the google-cal app for everything. I dont think there is a way to separate the 2 apps.
If you find a way I'd like to know as well. Sorry I cant be more helpful.

This won't work on ICS builds, but if you have upgraded to JB 4.1 then in Settings - > Application Manager you can disable notifications on a per app basis.

yes this I know, my question was more: why upon restart the notification settings of both google and s calendar are set back to original values?

That I'm not sure. It shouldn't be resetting the setting on a reboot.

Gmail crashing

Am I the only one? Just started to happen.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
I have had this since updating to ICS. The problem seems to pop up when you press on a notification message to go into an email app, particularly Gmail. Once you get the problem, you have to reboot for it to really go away. I've stopped pressing on the notifications to go into email and that has appeared to help, but my main account is not Gmail so I'm not using Gmail regularly to know for sure. Also, if you are using the Gmail widget, some people say that, after the ICS update, you should remove the old Gmail widget from your homescreen and add it again.
Have you guys try wiping data for the Gmail app
Yes, works for ASUS email app, but doesn't do anything for Gmail.
Thanks for the heads up

I'm having the same issue... has anyone found any solid fixes? If not, maybe pressure should be put on ASUS to remedy the issue, they clearly didn't get the update quite right.
My Gmail app crashes (actually 'hangs' would be a better description of what happens with mine), but never so badly that I have to reboot -- usually just a force close inside settings does the trick for me.
Ditto. So many bugs in this ICS update. No help from Asus yet.

I've found that when using the wake lock app, not only does it prevent the random reboots, etc, but Gmail seems to behave as well. Soon as I disable wake lock, its not long until gmail acts up

The first bullet: partial. Then the bottom 2 boxes ckd. You have to activate it on the next screen, then done.

I have found the exact opposite with wake lock. When I have it running, my gmail acts up. Since I deleted it I have been alright.??

Yea, go figure. Nothing to lose any sleep over. At least it doesn't reboot or SOD when on wakelock
Have any of you guys tried fixing permissions? I did and it seems to have worked so far.

I have fixed permissions, and it only worked for a while. It seems everything I have tried only works for a while and then the problem comes back. It also seems that on a fresh reboot there is no problem, but after numerous hours the problem comes back?

"Fixed Permissions" ?? Howto?
Yeah, I'm seriously considering going back to HC. ICS seems more snappy but that becomes moot when we have RR's, SOD's and gMail crashing left and right.
What a shame. ICS on my *unsupported* SGS runs like a charm. WTF happened that on a device which gets an "official" ICS has such great problems..

Completely agree with you. Asus released another update today, but my gmail still crashes left and right. Apparently it breaks root too, so now I can't go over to CM9 like I really want to...

[Q] SMS Count Wrong

The stock text messaging app always shows 1 unread message on its icon. It's very annoying and I can't find a way to make it go away. Go SMS makes you buy the premium app to sync facebook photos and Handcent is ugly as sin and doesn't seem to handle FB pics either. Only the stack app does this right, so I want to use it. but I can't get the unread count to go away. Has anyone else had this problem?

I've seen reports of this problem on other forums. Solution there was a factory reset unfortunately.

No problems here. Instead if going straight to factory resets you can try force stopping it and restarting it in app settings

checking in... same issue.
My issue is not so persistent but still noticeable. I considered it an annoyance but becoming more and more disheartening.. I haven't pain close enough attention as of yet but will begin to. That being said, grain of salt here.. seems to be happening mostly when a text comes in while plugged into my pc via usb. The missed messages indicator seems to go away after viewing (of course) then letting ten or so minutes pass..
As stated tho, i haven't been paying enough attention to it to say these are solid observations.
Even though you'd have to redo your home screens, this is better than a factory reset - but clearing the data on the stock launcher should get rid of that.

4.2 Play Store Bug?

Go to settings, scroll down to accounts, tap on whatsapp. There you can turn off contacts synchronization, which is causing the wakelocks.
It will not interfere with your messages as this only sycs your contacts.
Do check once in a while if it stays of as with me it sometimes turns on automatically
Thanks for your help. I will try it

I'll give this a shot. I was shocked to see that Whatsapp was keeping my phone awake for more than 7 hours over the course of a day. Thanks.
I AM having this problem too. My auto sync is already offline and I still get a huge amount of wakelocks.
What else can I do?
after opening whatsapp..just go to settings->apps-> whtsapp.. and click force close.. u wil have no wakelocks
Try and find the previous apk.

Greenify will probably "kill" message notifications?
My problem went away after I installed the newest version off their website.
@clankfu,
Thanks, will try it. Seems that Play has 2.10.*** and the latest on their website is 2.11.***
Had this issue with website versions weeks and months ago. Might be that the bug came into the playstore version (although I don't have any issues right now)

I see this once in a while and it'd be good to understand WTF is going on. Why does it take a full 5 minute wakelock?
I'm not even sure if its the contacts sync because I clicked on Whatsapp in the Android Settings menu and it showed that the last sync was at 7pm last night. Yet this morning I had a 5-6 minute wakelock. I unchecked and rechecked and it completed the sync in a second or two.
download LLama or Tasker and you can create a task so that when you are backing out of whats app it will FC it for you. I do this with some system apps that stay open longer than I would like. Although its not the way Android may want it its what I do
specify the tasker profile

could you specify the way you do this on tasker? will this action stop the notifications in new message?

Messaging App

Recently, I've noticed that the Messaging app will automatically set itself as the default SMS app. I don't like the Messaging app, I don't want to use it. How am I able to stop this from occurring?

This happens to me constantly. I want to use hangouts as my default messaging app, but it randomly (or so it seems) switches back to the stock messaging app. I did notice that when this happens it also switches back to the original lock screen (I use GO Locker now).
I thought about removing the messaging app (my phone is rooted), but I'm not sure how that would affect the phone. I also can't seem to find the app under the list of apps I could uninstall.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

you could try freezing it with titanium backup
Don't freeze or remove the stock messaging app. I switched from ART runtime back to Dalvik, after reading that somebody experienced problems upon switching runtimes. Are you by chance on ART?
Edit - I also ought to mention that I haven't had it reset since I made the switch.

Switching to ART and then reverting to Dalvik would be my only suggestions then at that point. I hope it's resolved, I've been loving Messenger. [emoji14]
