So I run a CM10 nightly with franco.kernel r25. My USB drive mounts without the need for StickMount.
This is purely a curiosity question. I can DirectoryBind without issues as well.
So is USB support built in to CM? I didn't see USB storage as a feature of franco.kernel.
Thanks XDA!
Most full featured roms for the n7 will have this built into it. I have never used stickmount with any rom and external sds have always worked

I'm using smooth ROM but when I connect a USB flash drive it doesn't connect even when I try to use stickmount but nothing any help would be greatly appreciated. Also could it be a certain micro USB cable?

Woops, accidental thanks. Freebie to you!!!
Anyhow, youn said micro usb cable. You need an otg cable. Is that what you meant? If so, yes, there are different types of otg cables that work on different devices and not on others. You need to make sure yours is compatible with the n7.
OP- It is called "Automatic usb hotplug" support. It is not really a rom feature, but a kernel feature. M Kernel a24 now also supports this on 4.2.1.

Just root. Or, you could use Nexus Media Importer sans root.
Need root like what listeruk says. You could however use stickmount, then it will show up in your file explorer as usb. Links here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDMsImV1LmNoYWluZmlyZS5zdGlja21vdW50Il0.
Hi,
I have a Toshiba 500 GB HD USB 3.0 which i formatted as exFAT and now i can easily connect to my SGS4 GT-I9500 through USB OTG.
Now my question is can i connect 1TB HD with the same procedure without any extra power connection to HD?
Please note that i am on rooted stock room (MEA).
Sorry for my bad English.

It won't work, due to the power consumption of the external HDD. You should have an info, that the conected device won't work.
Well my Samsung 1tb disk works just fine - as it did with S3 before.

I have a laptop hdd (2.5") strapped to the back of my phone to be used on the go.
But if the hdd you have is 3.5" then it will work if you use external power. Id suggest u use ext4 instead of exfat.

A few apps of note are:
USB OTG Helper
Stickmount
You need to be Rooted for either app. Those apps provide Read/Write access to many different partition formats. If you only want read access to OTG storage then there is a Google app.

Just tried both. They both mount the drive, which is ntfs, but root browser shows it as blank. I'm running purity rom with ktmanta as the kernel.

I've personally used USB OTG Helper with NTFS with ES File browser without issue. My device is rooted.
Hey Sammy, what ROM/kernel combo were/are you running when you used your otg drive?
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
What's the word on these? If the kernel you're using supports USB OTG flash drives, does that mean that any USB stick is going to work fine? Or do you have to get one labled as "USB OTG"?
And is it as simple as plugging the stick into your computer, copying the ROM over to it, then plugging it into your phone, rebooting into TWRO and flash the ROM right off the USB stick?
Just wanna make sure before I purchase one.
U dont need to rename it to anything
Just format it as fat 32 and you are good
And you can copy anything to it or from it to your phone.

I am not sure if you can flash a ROM from the USB stick, but you can definitely transfer files within Android, if you have OTG cable (bought myself one). You can also use a mouse, keyboard or even a game pad.

Or this
http://www.verbatim.com.hk/en_HK/pr.../64444/store-n-go-otg-usb-3-0-drive-16gb-tiny
I use this and its so much better than any classical method of USB-OTG cable + USB stick, it's more convenient and compact.
Nice!
Here's a USB 2.0 16GB for $9 with 4.4 stars.
I think I'll give it a shot.
I need 2.0 since I flash random phones for random friends.
