I was in a hurry to make a connection and left it in the seat pocket on the plane. Someone in Chicago or another connection has a great device. I bought the redfly to go with my ATT Titan II and just connected it this morning. The big disappointment is that video is terrible. Other than that most apps work great. Let me know if you want me to test something.
It is unlikely that the airline will find it, so I'll have a battery and original box for sale in about 10 days.
thats really sad
Re Redfly, how is the performance in mobile office? Read some reviews mentioning about pdf files opening extremely slow... your experience so far?
Using BT, how is battery life? Just curious to know the real user experience.
Thanks.
Redfly
All of the mobile office apps work great, it is not hard to see why they are targeting the business market. The only thing that I'd love to see would be better video play, but I did not expect that. The keyboard is fine for touch typing and I've had no trouble getting used to it. The screen is really good in the truck and I'm enjoying it for gps, google maps, and expensable. The view of contacts and calendar when in the truck is so much better than the phone itself. It is priced ok and worth it at $199 but that is still a stretch since it cannot replace my phone screen or media player for video on flights. So my dilemma is still multiple devices if I want a larger screen. The screen for Mobile Office is better than the Advantage, but for a do it all device I'd like to have it back.
I just received my scratch and dent x7501 from an ebay transaction, and it only came with the charger, so I might be interested in whatever you have, especially proprietary cables. I can't say I necessarily have to have them, but it might be helpful in case i decide to sell.
I didn't think I'd miss it like I do. So I'm going to watch the "for sales" and ebay for a couple of weeks to see if I can find a replacement. If not, I'll contact you 1st.

RE Comments and a Question About Redfly As Well
First off, very sorry to hear that story. Thats a fine piece of equipment to have to get over from the loss. I know how I am, I'd be walking around kicking the ground with my head down for weeks. Just remember, you never know, that airline could call tomorrow and surprise you. I would also make sure you contact them again. You never know. Perserverance in a case like this can be invaluable.
Let me also take a second to say to the masses, if you do not have your devices clearly marked with Contact Info, your making a mistake. I simply go into Word or Notepad or whatever and make some simple pieces of paper with my name , number. the words CALL IF FOUND, use a Size of 7 or or 9 FONT depending on how big device is and use BOLD. Cut them out, apply to back of battery is best, but at the least under the battery, people find a device I guarantee the battery comes off sooner or later, and then just use a piece of clear scotch tape (or two). This got my $1400 Black MicroTAC back in 1984 or 85. (something like that) When the Car Kit was $2700. One other thing. Sure Auto Locking on a device gets old. But there is nothing better then to know after a loss or theft that at the best he has a worthless piece of equipment and the least he will have to maybe spend some money and time to get it unlocked. It will help take the sting out of it mentally.
REDFLY:
As to Redfly I also said what the heck for $199 I will jump. With a coupon from MODACO I got another $18.00 off so I am priced right. I am a sceptic about this "seeding"program. I think it was not selling and it was time to get cost out of these units back before it is too late. When they are gone they may be gone and then used and marked up Ebays will be what is available. They may even hold value awhile as they do work as stated.
The OPS statement that the RedFly is for the Business user ( I will also say Student, perfect for Student for taking notes etc) is correct. If you want to watch Videos, forget it. But if you want to type documents, get on the Internet, web browse and check emails and know your phone is staying charged all the while and get good battery life with the whole combo, the Redfly works. It does EXACTLY what it is supposed to do well, and NOTHING else really. Your getting a nice big screen for your phone, keyboard and touchpad, abilty to charge / maintain battery level on phone while using (give or take a bit) for hours. It is small and you will see about 8 hours of battery life. If you need to use a projector it has a regular VIDEO port for say classroom or Power point meeting presentations
RedFly Question / Issue:
Im curious if the OP has experienced the intermittant connect between the AC cord and the Power IN port on the Redfly. Mine barely makes the connection and will pop out while just sitting there doing nothing or being lightly moved or typed on. It seems to be an R and D issue that got by. I have read others complain about it. Mine is bad enough I am exchanging. BTW, if you are going to get a RedFly allow me to suggest Erik Patterson at Expansys USA. This guy has taken care of me before, during and after the sale on the Redfly. I have been very impressed. On a $199 sale he is making very little (if anything) commission wise, He has treated me like I did just buy an x7501 with every available Accs. LOL. He is a true professional salesperson and I would love to see him get the business (RedFly or anything else for that matter) . He has earned my future business hands down.
OK thats enough for this "cover everything" post.

As for the power plug you might want to see if you are getting it plugged all the way in. Many have noted, as I have with mine, they have a lot of tension on the socket so it doesn't come unplugged and you think you have it plugged in when you don't.
purchased motorola es400. truly happy with this device, do think it's the greatest wm6 device with fantastic usability.
pros:
1. qwerty keyboard is easy to press, even better than any blackberry keyboard
2. 3.0 VGA tft screen: high brightness, clear display
3. perfect size to fit your hands, rugged phone, rubber frame give you best feeling
4. 1500mah standard battery + 3000 mah extended battery, a gigantic power house. so no worry about battery
cons:
1. wm6.5(hope it'd be a android one)
2. system needs to be more optimized, it took 5 to 6 seconds to shoot a picture after you press camara button!!
came more pictures.
1 more cons: 2.5mm headset jack
more pictures....................
Looks like that came from the Symbol line of devices. Lots of retailers use the MC-70 and related devices for inventory work and more. Very good devices for that type of work, but way to big and bulky for average use.
When Motorola bought out Symbol they started make a line that was more slim and trim in the hopes of getting executives/manager to adopt them. They'd not only be able to perform the inventory type jobs but also work as the default cellphone for the individual.
They are very rugged and well built devices. They can take a LOT of abuse and still function. If I recall the OS has also been "ruggedized." What I mean is that they sort of strip out some of the more advance, high end stuff that is more likely to cause incompatibility and/or crashes. I know this is true of some of Symbol's earlier devices. I don't know if it's true with the Motorola stuff... especially if they wanted execs to use these I doubt they would have done too much to 'em.
Great devices for Field Work, but I don't know they're usually not cutting edge tech or the most feature packed machines.
You've got Windows EH 6.5 on this right ? What build number do you see on it ? Just curious

Hello
i need a german Rom for this device!
Can anybody help
Hi,
Try following link, it should offer you a download link with when you provide your device's SN
http://support.symbol.com/support/s...eId=&dialogID=216462608&stateId=1 0 216464033
As mentioned above, these devices are really designed for data capture work in the business arena. Just the job, for barcode reading, warehouse pick list instructions, utility company meter reading, in the field survey response capture, customer order capture, etc. etc, but for personal phone use, it is a bit of a heavyweight.
Having said that, if you make a habit of dropping your phone down the WC, quite a common method of trashing it by all accounts, such a purchase could be a very good investment. It will survive that sort of thing time after time. You will have to give it some really serious abuse in order to break it.
This is where Microsoft is taking the CE/Mobile/Embedded platform.
Windows Phone 7 is now purely a consumer product.
..if it had DPAD and wm6.1...
sigh.
what's the cost of this, btw?
any kitchens available?
Regarding the cost, they're not cheap, but then again you get what you pay for.
Here in the UK they start at just over £400.
thank you buddy, nice work
mrteii, have you tried to shoot a photo at night using the flashlight? the light is distributed also into lens, making an ugly white arc at the bottom of the picture. anyway, the PenTile display is very nice. i'm currently using this device alongside with mc75a, which i like much more
On Sprint in the USA, the Touch Pro 2 is the best Windows Mobile device. I would get a Leo/HD2 if I was on T-Mobile.
Anyone one could get this ES400 rom ?

I just received this device off ebay several days ago, brand new, unbranded and it came with the extended battery. I've added a PNY 32GB class 10 microsd card and activated it with an at&t gophone plan. I'm getting the H data symbol up top so it looks like I'm connecting at 3.5G speeds and so far so good! It's quite beastly in size but I love the display and the keyboard! I hope they release an updated model in Android/WP7 form, but I kinda like how it feels like a computer on a phone. It's my first WM phone, my previous phone was a Palm Pre.
Dear all,
at this moment I am trying to repair the micro-USB connector on my HTC HD2. At the moment it only charges when inserted in a certain angle, this is not very convenient and as I am willing to experiment, I want to replace the micro-USB by myself.
Therefore I've brought some soldering tools and such, I haven't opened my HTC HD2 yet, as I am doing preparations first. However I am stuck at what micro-USB female plug I should buy to replace the one on the HTC HD2 (european edition; 512 MB).
Can someone give me advice? I would like to replace the micro-USB port with one that is exactly the original model. I've found the following products on Farnell, please type micro USB female which one should I buy? Or does someone have any other recommandations?
I will try to keep you guys posted on my replacement procedures.
PS: I am unable to post links as I don't have a lot of posts, however I spend a lot of time reading posts here.

Just a few options for you there
Hey, thanks for your response, however I'm not really comfortable with the price, it's even more expensive than my cable, as it is in pounds. However can anyone identify what kind of micro usb this is? (Type)
temp_tsun,
You didn't state where you're from, or in what country you'd prefer the vendor be located. But to answer your question:
It's considered a "standard" Micro-USB, or more precisely a 5-pin micro-USB "Type B" port. Google around for those keywords in conjunction with phrases like "HD2/Leo charging port", "...charging connector", etc, and you'll find some vendor candidates. Looking around for a minute or two and comparing prices I found this one: cellularpartsusa.com/htc-hd2-charging-connector.html. Cheap, but I don't know anything about the merchant or what their shipping rates are. Also, I remember reading somewhere that other OEM versions of this part may be compatible with the HD2, possibly the Blackberry Bold. So, expanding the search I found
sw-box.com/Usb-Charging-Connector-Port-For-Blackberry-Bold-9700-Curve-8520.html and
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400203459666&hlp=false, but you better ascertain first that it's the same part since I can't be 100% sure.
Hope that helps. Good luck with your surgery...
I'm sorry, I'm from the Netherlands. I own an EU version of the HTC HD2. I'm currently delaying my surgery because the order of several soldering tools are delayed. I will try to make pictures and post them online to help others a) preventing the mistakes I made (and my phone will probably die ) b) showing others how I did it and hopefully more surgeries will succeed.
PS: I'm going to order this one, hopefully on monday I will have it =).

Did you manage to repair this yourself ?
I also have a broken USB port, which I since found to now be detached from the circuit board when I disassembled the HD2. I don't think I am good enough to solder a replacement (as it is so small!), so am keen to hear how you went ?
i'd like to know too, as i foolishly returned the phone to HTC and had them break it completely for me. They offered a new motherboard for £215 or aboy $450 dollars outside of warranty. now i need a charging mat and am back on win mo 6.5.
I tried to get some help in the Q&A section, but it appears this is more technical/hardware seeking question than just generic "which phone" thread.
I have been suggested Samsung Galaxy Spica/i5700 by boofman (thank you), but the device is cost prohibitive.
I would very much appreciate anyone's suggestion.
I am planning a presentation to demonstrate the benefits of JTAG for data recovery on embedded systems. The audience has approx. 12th grade education, but higher than average computer understanding.
I have most of the equipment already, including a uLINK2, Bus Blaster, and Raspberry Pi for the UART-to-USB, and OpenOCD for the software.
What I am missing is the simplest cell phone (or other inexpensive embedded device) to make the demonstration.
I would like to connect to the device and list the devices on the JTAG chain, and recover the data from them.
What cell phone brand and model would work well for this presentation?
I would need to know the JTAG points, have access to the data sheets of the onboard chips, and since it is out of my own pocket, I hope to get the phones on eBay for a low price.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Check out gsm-forum, under the hardware repair section.
Googling for jtag pins and your phone model number usually works for me. I'd assume you might have to wait a little bit for brand new devices, unless you feel like scoping the pins to find out which is which or hope their labeled.
These individuals are not kids. :fingers-crossed:
Excellent resource at the other site. Thanks!
But, I think I do not think I made myself clear regarding what I am looking for:crying:. I am not looking for info on how to JTAG a specific phone.
I am looking for 3 or 4 of the same model of cell phone that
I can pick up on eBay or similar for reasonable price (<$30/phone),
the JTAG TAP is known on the motherboard, and
it would be a bonus if the JTAG command set was known (besides the basic requirement).
This would allow me to make test run on one of the phones, then demonstrate the use of JTAG on the others.
The Samsung Galaxy Spica is a good phone, but I do not have the budget at $100+/phone. I need to find something cheaper. It does not need to be fancy telephone, or even smart phone - just have sufficient JTAG documentation.
If anyone has any ideas on what to use for this demo, I am still in need of a good idea.
You can look into any of the older HTC phones for this. I think that would be your best bet. I've done plenty of hardware repair, disassembling, reassambling, flashing, etc... on Android, & non-Android phones, & from my experience, the older HTC phones are the best. Specifically, concentrate on the GSM ones, such as for T-Mobile. Look into HTC myTouch 3G Slide (awesome little thing) , HTC G2 (one of the best keyboard phones ever), myTouch 4g, myTouch 4G Slide (overheating, self-destructing piece of crap), even the HD2 & the HD7. These are all devices that you can get for around $30 or so with a cracked, but still working digitizer, or some other kind of problem. Screens & other parts for them are very cheap as well.
Also, these are all known to RIFF Box. Look it up. You can do JTAG repair with these, & RIFF Box have all the JTAG ports labeled & documented. They might have some of the documentation right on their site, but I'm not totally sure. Anyway, check it out & see. I think this will be exactly what you're looking for.
Excellent! Thank you very much.
I have looked at looked at many commercial products, including RIFF Box. I narrowed the selections down the RIFF and ORT, but they are both very expensive for demonstration purposes.
I do love the fact that one can buy "jigs", "clips" or "adapters" (names change depending on vendors) which removes the soldering requirements for some of the phones. Except, these are still very expensive. :cyclops:
Again, thanks. I will look into these.

I'd go with Galaxy S 1 as it's really cool to work on and relatively well documented and demonstration on such stuff always looks well. But if you want something low-budget. I've seen JTAG pads on Nokia E50'ish stuff. Or try with some Samsung S3000's, these are pretty cheap. But I don't know how's JTAG there.
as @3ndymion218 told you , search old HTc .. also some Samsung that I think cheap could help too .
Samsung F480 , F490 , U700 , U900 etc ... some news Corby model also .. I think cheap .
I could help if you were near to me . I have 3 phones that I could offer you ...
Thank you for the further info.
Definitely will try to track down the HTC and Nokia information.
Samsung is a bit pricy as you said, but maybe down the road.
Again, thank you all!
Hello!
I've been observing this tablet since I barely missed the Kickstarter campaign. Seeing they didn't make Remix OS like just a one off, but keep updating it to later Android versions, too. Continued support is always good.
I'm now really interested in getting a hold of the tablet. But unfortunately it's not available here in Germany where I live. So I'm considering to import it. I've seen other German people around here having the Remix, so I'd like to ask a few questions I'd like answered before deciding to go through the trouble with customs and stuff.
1.) If I import it from the USA, it'll have a charger for US wall sockets.
a.) It's not by chance modular like the one of other internationally sold devices, such as the Surface tablet, is it? On the Surface tablet you can just swap out a module with the socket pins.
b.) Sockets in the USA usually have 120V. If I maybe try to use the charger with a travel adapter if the pins aren't swappable, is the charger ok with 230V, too?
2.) I'd like use the tablet to play some games on it. The developer however might limit the devices the app is available to download from on Play Store. Can anyone with the tablet do me the favor and check if Play Store says that the app is compatible with it? (I would link them if the forum wouldn't disallow me as a newbie.)
a.) GTA 3 or GTA 3 (German low violence version)
b.) GTA: VC or GTA: VC(German low violence version)
c.) GTA: SA or GTA: SA (German low violence version)
d.) GTA: LCS
I would really appreciate if you guys could answer my questions here .
Cheers, Mini-Me

Alright, thanks a lot for your answers . So it'd seem the tablet actually fulfills all my wishes .
Also thanks for the hint on the discount, however it would seem it's expired:
Not a big deal though.
I guess I'll look into how I can best go about importing it to here then.
I'm hanging myself into this thread.
For me I discovered the Remix Ultra today and I like it very much.
What concerns me is:
- Will there be a german hardware keyboard layout available? Especially special charaters like ä,ö,ü etc.
- Just to make it clear: In Germany I won't be able to charge the device other than USB?

From what I've seen so far - no. On their own site they only sell it to the US (currently?), so they only need that one for now.

No, you can use the provided charger with a travel adaptor from what I've understood from monki-magic. You'd just plug it between the socket and the charger. The charger then should work fine with the 230V in Germany.
I'm currently hesitant to place an order because trying to get it through customs might be difficult. From what I've seen so far it doesn't have a CE marking and trying to import it they might confiscate it because it doesn't comply with electronics safety regulations necessary for EU.
Oh, and the discount link works again.
Best Regards, Mini-Me

Your concern about the keyboard layout: you are able to change the layout on the software-side. So you have to know where the umlauts and other buttons are located.
