Hi guyz , i often watch Netflix on my phone, but the battery on nexus 4 just vanishes in matter of seconds. I watched one episode of x files which is 45 min long, and in the beginning my battery was 55% then not even after 30 min or so i got warning that battery was 14% and charge it. Also, one time i fully charged my phone, and there was episode which i had 6 minute left to watch, and i finished the episode, checked my battery it was 88%, Damnnnn!!!! 1 min of video playing equals 2% percent battery? That's too much i think? I m watching Netflix over data usage, not on WiFi. Is there any way to fix it? Or is this just how it is supposed to be? Any help is appreciated. I am on project cold fusion ROM, and the kernel it had come with. Should i flash some other kernel? I like the ROM very much. Only the battery is a big issue for me right now. I searched about this, but i couldn't find similar problem. So I'm posting this thread. Thank you.

Watching a video that's streaming over the network is going to chew through battery. You can try lowering your brightness? Also, there are several kernels. Your mileage will vary, so start with what's popular and flash away.

Yes but you aren't streaming over the mobile network for that hour.

If i get 1 hour for 15% watching videos ill do anything to get ROM and kernel. Btw kernel is independent from the ROM? I could flash any kernel on any ROM i want?

Since this is the nexus 4, yes. If you were on a different device sense kernels would be sense roms only and tw kernels would be tw only.

There are AOSP and CM based ROMs
Now there is "any kernel" which can be used on both

Post your screens when you reach 5% and the on screen time etc. You've got my interest in the kernel.
Can it be flashed to stock rom? My screen is on a minimum of 4 hours a day. Do you think it would make a difference to me?

I agree with kilometers4. Better battery stats & cpu spy work well. I also suggest you download a battery calibration app. When I updated to Jelly Bean on my S3, the battery life sucked. But once I calibrated for a few cycles, it's great now. Same for my Nexus 7.
try switching to official CM10.1. Im getting 9hrs screen on time with it

I'm gonna hafta concur with this guy. However, I was having the same problem.
I used my keyboard to type into the search bar "bad battery life",
I looked at some similar titled threads and decided to look through this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783390&page=3&highlight=nexus+7+not+charging
I followed the directions.
I did profit.
Next time use the search bar, and don't get butthurt when someone teases you a little. It's called the internet get used to it. And your a senior member you should know that.
When my nexus was brand new, i also had a few battery issues. But got it fixed after fully discharging the device a few times. Make sure it charges to 100% inbetween.

If you are running 4.2 i would reccomend you switch back to 4.1

Try to disable NFC
It has to be a rogue app, I'm getting way over that on my stock n7 32gb, stock 4.2.1

I find it kinda strange you only getting 3 hours out of it. On my Nexus 7 I can get little over 24 hours on a full charge. That's with basic web surfing, xda app, twitter and few YouTube videos.
Course if I do something more demanding like playing games I get less runtime on the battery.

Does anyone know a stable ROM that can significant increase the battery life on the Nexus 4? Right now I'm stock, and battery life has been terrible and doesn't even last me through the day. It is also very slow to charge on the included charger, but seems to charge faster on a Kindle Fire 1.8A I have.
Thanks!

The custom kernels in the dev section offer decent battery life.
I'm a wifi user mostly and I get @5.5 to 6 hours screen on time with lite gaming and browsing (this site all day lol).. i do Undervolt by a total of 150mV too... I recomend Harsh's kernel personally.
Underclocking the CPU is not worth it imo because it just makes other cores go online quicker when more power is needed... though it may help a small bit.
other usual tips..
use low screen brightness
turn off google now
turn off gps location
only sync stuff you really use, turn other syncs off (i have just gmail, contacts, browser synced)
turn off nfc if not using
make sure to use the open recent apps button and swipe away all apps when putting the phone down for a while (this really helps with stock kernel because of the wakelocks)
edit.. also after a week or so of charges the battery gets better.

That is outstanding. But how in the world is it possible that you have a "screen on" state without being awake?
I have been fighting battery issues for so long now, I'd really like to get to something as good as what you get...
i get 5 hours on heavy use until i hit 10 % well my setup is in my signature on light use i am sure i can stretch it to 6 hours with brightness on auto and wifi is on most of the time
battery life is never going to be better for me unless i uv. the previous setup, i used cm 10.1.2 stable with matr1x kernel. i uv and set the max cpu to 1350. it was really really good. i can use the phone from 8am to 9pm.
now currently using aosp 4.3, the default setup battery life has improved a bit compared to 4.2.2 stock, but after semaphore kernel installed and uv a bit, even with max cpu at default which is 1.5ghz, battery life has been really great.

Just out of curiosity, are in you the US/North America?
I had the same issue of losing tons of battery to the OS overnight. I reflashed to an older version of the modem. Most of the people I have seen so far with these symptoms have been in France and India. Must be something about the cell services and how they interact with the phone.
@Calebz: I'm in Ireland.
I've restarted the phone since and the battery usage is back to normal, will see for how long.
Maybe you can look at this:

EDIT:
(referring to the pictures attached) Yeah. I was playing Asphalt, had wifi most of the time (even if there wasn't a hotspot), watched The Way Way Back via Mx player, Juice Cubes and was reflashing the ROM after having trouble with Xposed Framework patch.
PS. Sorry this was from my CLEAN ROM WITH FAUX KERNEL so what I'll post next is my latest Kitkat setup + stats
Not so pleased with these stats, but my Nexus 4 had record breaking stats! I have never had more than an hour of SOT, but today I got three! Running KitKat and ART.
Well, for my N7 it is a different story. Take a look.
That is the worst stats I've ever had. Let's give it a day, like I did on my N4.

Your kernel is at 69%. Either you switched to ART directly before this run or you have a rogue app that's not showing up in the stats. Reboot, recharge and try again.

No games. I don't do much gaming. Can play some rayman jungle run on my next charge.
Just one hour left til 3 days standby, already 8h screen on and 10% battery left. I'll reach 9h SOT without a doubt and on 4.3 I could only get that with one day standby. So standby time is the biggest improvement.
