Hey everyone and thanks in advance. I have a couple questions..
Is safe strap the only recovery the RAZR m has at the moment? You can only allocate up go 3 gigs of data space per ROM... and I can't even so that because I don't have enough space.
Why is it that the maximum amount of internal data space I have is only 4 gigs... but it says out of 8 gigs.
When I had the droid 3, we could use a program to block the connection between the phone and Verizon so we could use the built in tethering apps... can we do the same thing for the M?
Lastly.. I see people talking about a dev and consumer version. What's the difference and which do I have.
Thanks!
To answer your first question, I must explain the answer to the last one. Dev edition can be bootloader unlocked, meaning custom recoveries can be flashed. Retail must use safestrap.

So where do I start....I'm new and as such I obviously have a question.....Hey all!
I've been following this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2369130&page=36) for a while regarding rooting and flashing android 4.3 on my S4 (International LTE). I have done so and I love it.
My question is why can't I access all my internal memory (16GB of it), It only shows at 9.25GB ish free. I know the stock S4 used a lot of memory, but why, after a wipe/reset can I still not access it? I would have thought it would be gone.
Is it a case of it being needed for use by my newly flashed 4.3 ROM (is the ROM using it as the stock one did), or is it just sitting there being wasted? How could I wipe it and what are the implications of doing so?
If this has been asked before I haven't looked hard enough, please link me to the relevant thread and I'll dispose of this one.
Many Thanks
Anthony
You can't use it because it is the system partition. It is reserved space.

Hey guys. So what's the best way to clear up RAM on my s4. Since I'm mf3 I can't install any roms. And my phones always 1.2gb being used after I've closed all apps and cleared the ram. Any tricks out there?
Thanks

In Linux, unused ram is wasted ram. My used ram is usually about 1.2 gb too.

Read the General Section. Look for MF3 threads. You can install roms. If you have a 16gb phone, memory may be tight.

Do not try to install a custom ROM if you're on MF3 - read around, no recovery, so if you mess it up somehow then you're hosed. 1.1-1.5gb used is common and unless your device is getting warm/hot - you're okay.
Well,
You "can" do it. Yes, you need to read and weigh pros and cons for you. Internal will still be about what you have. It is what I have. And, again a 16gb phone may may be "starpped" doing this--
If you haven't already found them--

I just got a new N3 about 2 days ago. I've rooted by using the safestrap and installed JellyBeans ROM that I loved from my Note2. With only a couple apps installed, I'm getting conflicting data.
Application Manager says 16GB free and my largest app is Chrome at 73mb.
Storage also says 16gb free with applications of .94gb. However it also says I have Miscellaneous files at 6.77GB.
So I have a 32gb phone, and 1gb of apps leaving about 31 gb. I'm sure there is probably 6gb for the OS. I'm still missing roughly 6-8gb of storage.
I think it is because the Safestrap keeps the factory ROM in place and I put JellyBean in a virtual drive??? I have two roms maybe? But ROMs are only about 1.2Gb.
I'm not very high speed on this stuff.
Thanks for any explination you can provide.
Bingo. Safestrap essentially loads a new rom over stock (unless you flash in the stock slot), so that storage is not available.

Wrong forum section bro. Q A is where this belongs.

How large did you make your ROM slot? Even though the compressed ROM isn't that big, the ROM slot can be up to ~8gb. Also keep in mind storage reporting tends to be inaccurate while booted into a ROM flashes onto a SS ROM slot.
BTW, for future reference questions should go in the Q&A subforum.

I've had a Loki'd bootloader-unlocked S4 for about a year now.
I have CM11 and latest Gapps package installed as my one and only OS installed.
I am wondering if anyone has the answer of why I only have a total internal storage of 9.6gb available when it is originally 16gb?
Does Loki place the stock OS in a different partition and set it aside?
Any input is appreciated. Thank you!
You never get 16gb, android uses a bunch of it for it's partitions. The 9.6 looks like what everyone else has available

It is overwhelming. But I've owned my xt907 for number of years and I don't think there's a ROM oh, that I haven't gotten my hands on that I have not tried on this device. And I will be quite honest when I say this and this is very rare that I will ever say this, I have found in terms of cooperation in terms of system, the stock operating system KitKat the last updated version to be the most stable and speedy version when comparing to custom roms. with that having been said and not having a list of links in front of me, I have found aosp ROM 5.1.1 is the most stable of the many available. This phone already comes with enough bells and whistles on its own. you shouldn't need to add too much more of your custom ROM and I think many of the developers went a little bit overboard with that.
PS I also have an unlocked bootloader.

According to your vast experience with this phone, and having read some of the threads here, do you agree in debloating and radio unlocking from the Verizon restrictions? I want it to use all the bands that it's capable of.
Thank you

I guess that's a matter of personal opinion and use. Mine has never been off Verizon and I've had no use to get it off there. And yes I prefer an extreme debloat. There are few lists laying around all of them are pretty reliable again I guess it would all base upon your tastes and uses.

Great, one last thing, I'm having trouble backing up the stock rom, the EFS tool says the SD is full when it reaches the last partition, but that's not correct, its a 16 Gb card. If I uncheck the last partition it does the same but with the new last one.
Edit: Solved, turned out that EFS uses internal storage for backup, didn't found a way to direct to SD, so I've splitted the process.
Thank you very much

I was going to say you're on your own with that one. I don't use nor have I ever used EFS. Glad you worked it out though!

What do you do about so many apps not working on versions older than, say, Marshmallow?
