This is just a shot in the dark but I was hoping to avoid having to buy a sim card for my crappy travel phone again. Am I correct in assuming that, apart from WiFi, there's no way I'll be able to use my Epic while in Australia?

Had no need for it???? If your on Verizon the phone is NOT going to work without it... If you bought it to use the Sim card slot then why not just buy an actual gsm version

I think he meant he was using the old sim from his old phone not the new one

i used a knife as well lol, needed the number off it to get the new sim activated on it.
I used tweezers to remove it from the phone
Yeah you def need that card if you're on Verizon. I was having problems because I took my sim out of my note 2 and put it in my 3 and it wasn't working until 30 mins later I figured it out. As soon as you pick up or purchase the phone it auto stops your last sim.

I have been using the sim card from my Verizon Galaxy nexus with no issues so far.

Mine came with a sim removal tool or some such.
Yes, mine came with a SIM preinstalled. This phone is an absolute pain to remove the SIM from.
I used a small flathead screwdriver to remove it.
Tweezers.

I just used the point of a knife to gently push down on the card and slid it out.
Guys can anyone confirm if the phone is unlocked?
I'm traveling soon to the caribbean and need it unlocked and UMTS 900 to use 3g.

I used the sim from my Note 2. Kept my unlimited data. Tossed the pre-installed one out.

I ordered mine from a local store and they needed your account to pre order. So as soon as they scanned it as picked up it was activated because I had no signal on my note 2. That's how I figured out was preactivated from the store

You guys realize there's a SIM card removal tool in the box, right?
Granted, I couldn't figure out how to use the damned thing for a while. Ended up figuring it out though and using my old SIM.

That is not correct. I'm using the same SIM in my Note 3 that I used in my S4, Note 2, and GNex. The beauty of SIM swapping is awesome for phone addicts.

Made sure my finger was dry then kept sliding my finger across the card really fast to create friction then it slid right out.

My phone was telling me that I didn't have a sim card inserted. I rebooted the phone and everything was fine. A few minutes later it happened again. I pulled the sim and reinserted it. It is working now but I don't know for how long. Anyone else have this issue?

Try cleaning the contacts maybe... It may or may not help. Regardless, you can get a new SIM card through Verizon. Just walk into a store and explain what's going on. And they can swap it for you right there.

Had the same exact thing happen to me a week ago...it was when I was trying multiple times to get isis working. After taking out the SIM and reseating it, everything has been fine since.
So far I have not had a problem since I reseated the sim card. Hope it was just a fluke.

Can I use the sim card from my S3 in my S5 or is it better to use the sim card the S5 came with. Any benefits / drawbacks one way or the other?
(On AT&T)
Thanks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747
Yeah, both are Micro SIMs you'll be able to just swap it over.
Thanks! That's what I figured. In the end, I had to call AT&T anyways to activate it, because I couldn't find the activation code in any of their emails, and they went with the "It's recommended to use the SIM card it came with" canned response, so I used it. That and I was talking to them with my old phone.

Hi all, I've owned my Nexus 4 for quite some time now but never really used it. Recently I dropped a weight on my Galaxy S4 and it shattered the screen. Thankfully I have this Nexus 4 as a back up... but when I tried to pop in the sim from my S4 (AT&T) into my Nexus 4, the phone doesn't recognize any sim card. Any ideas on how to make this work? (PS the sim used in the S4 fits perfectly into the Nexus 4 sim tray)

Whats the error you're getting on the nexus 4. Are you straight up getting no signal. No sim card detected?

Yea straight up no sim card detected: emergency calls only. I just tried a new sim card from AT&T and that didn't work either. I think my device is faulty...

Is either the phone doesnt read sim cards anymore or the imei has been blocked. Check https://www.t-mobile.com/verifyIMEI.aspx or

Could also possibly be a sim issue that happened during the transfer. Low possibility though.
