Hey everyone
Just wondering why my mobile data app would be running on my nexus 7 32 GB Wi-Fi model. Is there an app that is causing it to turn on?
Please help me understand
Tia

Do you mean mobile data, or Wi-Fi?

Mobile data. It has a phone as an icon

Where are you seeing this icon? The mobile data notification is not a phone icon. A screenshot would help.
Here is a screen ****

It looks to me like your screen shot is of the 'All' apps, not 'Running' apps. Or is this a list from a Task Killer (boo!)? If it is not using memory or cpu it is not running, so there is no need to worry about it. It is probably in the os because there are 3g versions of the N7.

Hello everyone
I have a little problem with the battery life on my nexus7. Maps is keeping my wifi on which will drain the battery and results in a bad standby battery life.
I attached some screenshots that show up how many hours maps is keeping my wifi on.
Is there any solution to fix this problem or to restrict maps from keeping the wifi on?
Tried smart wifi toggler, but the app didn't turn on the wifi after disabling it.
Thanks for your help

Now i just turn of wifi before i turn of the display.
What is your Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep Advanced Setting?
I had the same problem. Just go to settings/location and disable WiFi. If you want you can disable maps app if you don't use it. Settings/applications/maps and force close and disable.

Stock rom problem.. i have this problem before when my nexus all stock.. after flashing CM10.1, i have no problem at all.
So you are saying all the nexus device is having the same issue? Then it's major bug. Google should resolve it ASAP right?

I always have my mobile data turned off so that I don't get charged for it extra on my bill as I don't want random apps to be using data in the background without me knowing. I want to find a way to only enable data to the app Cerberus which can track your phone and stuff when lost. Is there a way to only enable data on certain apps because I don't mind paying a few extra dollars if that means me finding my lost phone.

If you go to settings>data usage and tap on an app in the list at the bottom of the screen, then you have an option to turn off background data when using mobile. See screenshot (it's in polish, but you get what I mean )

How?

A firewall from the play store. I recommend Android Firewall.
Edit: requires root
Use droidwall (rooted users only)
OK so a firewall did work and let me set which apps I want to allow WiFi and data... However it was really annoying because after I install a new app it would prompt me asking me to set the settings up for the new app... I don't want to keep doing this for every app I install is there any other way??

I know the music player and video player also use dlna like example you can connect to wifi and stream music and videos from another device via dlna
This is nuts, it takes the equivalent of two hours screen time... And I don't even use it!
So the only way to disable it is by purchasing titanium backup?

Strangely the same thing just popped up for me. I've had the phone a week and never noticed dlna when looking at my battery stats. Today the phone appeared to be using more battery and dlna was the top offender for battery usage.
The app will not stop, I've cleared data and cache, tried to force stop and it just won't. I'm really not sure what is using it.
I added a lockscreen widget for the quick remote app yesterday night. I've removed that to see if it was causing dlna to run more, it doesn't seem like it should but who knows.

I wasn't either, but just today it started. I finally got the DLNA process to stop, going to watch closely and see if it kicks back on again.
For the longest I've had this Media Server issue that would drain my battery by 35% or more and I think I may have figured out how to kill this S.O.B. Go to Settings>under account select Google>click on account> then where it says Google Play Music let it sync once then unselect it.. Haven't seen in since..
Update: Also received this from user: @xdafoundingmember seems to have killed it completely. Thank you sir https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rrr.android.mediaserverkiller

got it!!
OK, so mediaserver was killing my battery too. I did some digging with the digging being geared towards media and serving information. Turns out, for me anyway, that the Google play store was using twice the amount if background data as it was foreground data so, I checked the box to restrict background data and vioala!!!! Mediaserver went from using over forty percent to, now, 3 percent. I've been on battery all day from 8am, it's eleven now and I'm at 81 percent writing this.
I had mediaserver killer set to kill on screen on and I had camera FC issues so I set it to intervals and now it's great. Just FYI for those who use it.
