I got a new toy yesterday, so I felt compelled to get it working with my old toy. Here are a couple of pictures of the rev. B Raspberry Pi running Raspbian configured for adb/fastboot use with the Kindle Fire. It's nothing earth-shattering. It just works like you'd expect any other linux box to function. I'm not sure if anybody would actually buy one for this express purpose, but it's nice to know that it does work.

Very cool kinfauns! Also I'm glad your desktop doesn't look much different than mine with the wires going everywhere . My wife asks how I can get anything accomplished I just say "what I know where everything is".
Pretty cool that you can actually order Pi's now. They were backordered for the longest...
What would be cool is if you get the android and the pi talking so you can use the pi to operate the gpio pins and fire some relays or take sensor data. What are your plans for the pi...?

My desk is clean! It's the raspberry pi that caused all the wires to get out of place.

I had no specific plans for it when I ordered it. Coupling it to an android device wasn't really anything I had in mind. Now that I have it in hand, I plan to see if it's viable to use it as a backup server and a personal mail/imap server. If that doesn't work out, I want to hook it up to a high water sensor in my sump pump pit to send out a set of email/SMS warnings to notify me of trouble. I'll probably just play around with it some, learn some new things and see if any good ideas pop up.
I believe I see an unusually large buckyball cube in the picture. You do have an affinity for cool stuff.

It's a very capable little device for the money. Not fast, but I don't think anybody would buy it looking for speed.
I sold my KFs when I got the N7, but I missed tinkering around with it and found myself looking around on Craigslist for one soon thereafter. A guy in the town over was selling one that was barely touched for $80. I drove over and made the deal.
He threw in a case that I've never used and probably never will use. Maybe I'll start a new thread offering it for free to a random person who posts a response.

Yeah, it's a 12^3. I wanted to size up to a 16^3 with it being a power of 2 and all. Then I realized how many buckyballs that would actually take to make and I had to hold myself back before it got too crazy. :silly:

With my aquisition of thomspon clinical xpert I had an epiphany on the type of rom I eventually want to create. It would include things such as handy sniffer, bluezard, sniffi, a mac address changer, thompson clinical xpert and some form of an app that can measure weight via the touchscreen (digital scale). lol..

No, and it looks like cloning the mac address of a wlan then running wifirouter to collect arps to procure mac addresses to access mac address secured wlans is non-existent at this time as well.

You want to make an app that turn your tochscreen into a digital scale?!?!?? Who said being a "geek" wasn't cool. If possible i wonder what the range would be??? Even just a couple grams would be awesome
I just want to see a rom solely dedicated to pentesting. All out, cain_ppc.arm, etc, etc.
Lol, i like your idea.. a Weed weight Scale
handy for all those junkies out there.. including me
Weed Scale?!?? Who would need a weed scale *puff - puff - pass * *cough* cough* ... I dont think we promote the use of such substances here.... The PC term would be a "jewelers scale"
Hmm... Touchscreen scale...
You know what, that is theoretically possible. Touchflo programs have a pressure measurement associated with them and it shouldn't be all that difficult to utilize the same api (and a few calculations) to get an accurate measurement of (up to) a few grams.
Damn, I wish I had time to play around with this.
If anyone could point me in the right direction for the api's or NETCF 3.5 classes to look at, I may be able to come up with something. I just don't have time to do the searching myself.
I get pissed off when I get tobacco on my phone's screen from having it in my pocket with a pack of cigarettes ...
so I can't imagine using it to weigh weed or any other powdery substances... Plus in my opinion, these types of dealings would require a degree of precision that I don't know most people would want to trust their phone for ... when it wasn't made specifically for.
I think you should stick to a good ole AWS

I think the screen scale app would be great. Even if it isn't accurate to the 9th decimal place.

Agreed. Sandwich bags weigh nothing...
Imagine the look on their faces when you whip out your phone/scale.
Where I come from a sandwich bag weighs .2g . (depending on size) Seems like this idea is getting some play. I'm gonna have to do a little research. This may have been attempted before.

The Batman version if he owned a Wing.
Just before ascending on his powered grappling hook, Batman assesses if he can carry Vicky to safety with himself.
Batman (to Vicky Vale): How much do you weigh?
Vicky: A hundred ten...
Batman: Here, hop on my Wing, it's all I carry on my utility belt, besides this grappling hook, but I digress.
The screen cracks.
Batman: 110 huh? I doubt that. You'd better go alone on this ride, hang on. Batmobile, come get me and take me to the T-Mobile store, stat!
Hi everyone, I am new to the t mobile community and I was looking on good ol ebay for a G1 without a contract. At that point my search threw back this in the query. I was quick to call b.s and all that so ofcourse i didn't buy it, but I just want to ask you all what in the hell is this. Has anyone out there bought it or had any experience with this?

Just some cheap "iClone" phones from China. Check your local craigslist- people cant seem to get rid of them fast enough once they get duped into buying them
Alright, In the first link the bid has ended so i cannot help you there. NOW In the second, It's a piece of hardware that may be fake, For Example, My cousin bought a phone like that about 2 months back from ofcourse good ol' Ebay, And what was it, A Japanese phone that looked just like the Iphone, It streamed TV had an antenna for when we made the switch on cable and antennas would be dead. It had like an 8 megapixel camera, Beautiful sweet deal for a smackin' $200 bucks. SO he went ahead and bought it. When it arrived it was the phone, or more exact the model, Which weight no more than a stack of papers, It didnt turn on, NOTHING. He decided to use a flathead screw driver to open it up, and what he found was that the phone had nothing inside, Literally, Nothing but sand, To make the phone weigh. So from me to you. Don't buy it. Skip it. Go to T-mobile and get the G1. lol But that was just 1 experience never know.
damn what a shame. Hopefully the people who are winning these ebay auctions don't get a box of sand shipped to them as well. I just did some reseach on meizu, they seem to be the company that is producing this stuff. Maybe its good enough for china, but I sure as hell am not taking a chance with it.
Those phones are real (not sure about the eBay one, but Deal Extreme and others sell the iClones) but they are very low quality. They also sell a ton of Nokia clones.

Lol... that second one has got SIX speakers!! Must be goood... hehe
Haha
I bought one of these a couple mounths ago they are useless without the stylus and no where near as good as any phone made recently but if all you got is 150 and u need it unlocked then this pos is for you lol...
Edit: this thing does internet movies music and my favorite was the web cam mine had it does a few things but it doesn't do any all that good
These phones do have uses. A lot of these Chinese knock-offs are bought by people needing unlocked phones and multi-SIM capability. In Europe, for example, there are many more carriers over much shorter distances than in the US. Also, the practice (law?) there is caller-pays-all. Incoming calls don't cost anything. Outgoing calls cost your rate plus the rate of the person you're calling, making having multiple SIM cards for different countries more economical. Many of these phones have gimmick features like TV reception, but all come with clunky, proprietary operating systems. Finding good, useful applications will be a constant source of frustration for someone looking for a way to complement his 10mm CZ "diamond" stud in his ear.

this is a good vid, shows all the leads etc that we will get and the unit itself which looks good.
hopefully in the next day or 2 they will upload the guy running through the software so we can see what software they included and how much they have improved it from the announcement model (if they have sorted the lag and changed or improved anything).
yeah, I'd like to see how it runs and how well it goes through the panels.
I'm considering purchasing one, just not right away...

oh damn how did i miss this! nice! lol
Sigh... after watching the video, somehow just adds to the feeling that it really ain't much of a big improvement over the X1. But well, will still get it. And hopefully, it'll be out before the 1 year warranty of my X1 expires so that I can send it for servicing. Gotta get my keyboard issue resolved, now that I realized it ain't to do with me using a custom ROM.
If you want it to feel like a "big thing" just simply think of it as a standalone phone from the Xperia series, not as a successor to the X1.
After you establish that fact, it's just a new phone in the lineup.
I hope they won't put those pathetic earphones in the final set.
I would like to LAUGH one more time about their decision to use micro usb when all the companies in the undustry have agreed to use mini usb.
Midway through the video, just after he puts in the battery (which looks to be a standard X1 BST-41 ) - he hits a switch on the side. I was originally going to ask if that might be a Hold switch like the ASUS phones have - but I realize now its actually just a battery case lock - oh well.
Can't say I like the reduction of the buttons, makes for less customization, the micro-usb means I need to get mini-micro adapters (90% of all usb non-USB-A devices I've owned since 2002 have had Mini-USB plugs). Flat screen is nice though, being a little bigger can't hurt. Nice camera, but lower frame-rate on VGA recording like the X1a now for all editions? Mostly same specs though and no idea what software it will break... makes me with hold judgment on whether I'd ever buy it though. That and the fact I have a brand new X1 to play with in my hand right now .
Peter
P.S. Just saw your reply above me orelsi, I wish Mini-USB were the standard but I keep reading that it's now micro-usb - I'd be happy if you can prove me wrong on this Ref: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2341261,00.asp

I personally don't see any problem with the packaging. It's the PHONE we're interested in anyways; we're all going to throw the box out fifteen minutes after opening it, in any case. This might not count as groundbreaking news regarding the phone, but every little bit of information we get on the phone before it's released is always nice .
Looks like a huge box, ha ha. It's kind of cool in it's own way in my opinion. I plan on keeping it. At least the phone should be pretty well packaged! Hopefully a lot of goodies come in that thing.
Looks like something you buy a pre made meal in. I'm a little bummed that the contents were a little light but given the price you can't expect many extras.

I think jesus himself needs to deliver it!
I dunno about it coming in a metal case. Surely that would cost a significantly higher amount for Sprint to produce, which would possibly lead to a higher device price.
I'll take my Evo for $200 if all I have to give up is a nice box, please.
The box is ridiculous. I saw it when it hit the net and the box is silly stupid. Not that it matters, it could look like a penis and I would still jump up and down with joy when I got my hands on it It would have been cool to have a minimalist case like the iPhone, htc hero, motorola droid has. Even the bigger box of the incredible, but this box looks humongous. It may not actually be too big, but regardless its an odd shape.

agreed i guess, you have the case around for all of 20min then you chuck it.
I just think it would be cool to get this new advanced phone in a streamlined sleek case. I want the case to look as good as the phone. This one looks like something from 2001
I think the case is meant as a joke. They made this phone sexy in so many ways. I think someone felt that they had to do something wrong, even if it was intentional. So we get our phone in a box that reminds me of 99cent store soup . I can't wait for the phone Like it pains me to wait. How many people, actually appreciate how awesome this piece of hardware is, that they hold in their hand...... And yet the amount of moaning and whingeing that goes on on the web is ridiculous.
"Who wants an ir blaster in a phone.."
"This screen is a micron less thick..blah blah blah "
We should just sit back, relax and enjoy what we have now......
.....I'm guessing the marketing department wouldnt like that though...........

Ok !
Initially I was trying to ignore the battery life and how long it takes to charge haha..
But you can't deny, it's about the average. But when you consider the screen and how the phone works, you can't expect an extra day's worth out of nowhere..
If this and the S4 are considered the best options for smartphones right now and the S4 really does gets a few more standby hours, I would still go with the HTC One.
I was thinking about this after playing with a friends S4... yeah its a slick device but nothing on the market feels as good as the One.

Whilst typically I can't help but say every argument has 2 sides, and it's foolish to say the HTC One doesn't have any floors, the fact that this device and similar ones exist certainly deserves a moment of appreciation.
I remember when I was 11, and I spent a full week optimizing what at the time was a relatively well maintained machine and removing loads of crap, overclocking my CPU + graphics, disabling literally everything and eventually I had enough space to install the just-released GTA3 on my computer. The installation itself felt like it took around an hour. Even on the lowest graphics settings I managed just to get 15fps and boy did it make my computer run hot!
Now I have a HTC One. Just one of it's cores is capable of 5 times more processing power than my crappy little AMD Duron had. Today I installed GTA3 on it in a matter of minutes and was playing it maximum settings at a frame rate that made it smooth as butter. And to top it all off, I can control every remote controlled device in my house with it AND it fits in my pocket.
On a forum where people are inherently pointing out every little area for improvement to get the best from their devices, I agree with OP that we should all take a minute to sit back and reflect on the awesomeness of the technology we're all in possession of right now.
We're living in the future.
Hoverboards and holodecks can't be that far away now.
