When you wipe your data do you lose your backup as well?
Recently got a Nexus 7 and I'm kind of new to this stuff.
UP +1000
I have the same question.
I use TWRP recovery and in fact I figure out that wiping data is wiping your virtual sdcard also, I can't understand why and ca't find any viale workaround.
It 's due to new feature of android 4.2: Multi user
If someone knows how to wipe data without wiping sdcard
I just use my drop box fit all my back up stuff

The only way it will delete your sd card is if you choose to delete internal storage.
Wiping data/factory reset doesnt delete whats on the internal sd card.

My wife just sold her acer tablet what do I need to format in recovery to make sure all our personal data and files are completely deleted?
Wipe data(factory reset)
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik
And if u have a memory card installed make sure u delete evrything off of it

Even when I do that when I install a new rom photos and videos stay in the memory. I need all that gone as well. No external sd card is used only when I flash to a new Rom I use one

Unfortunately that won't get photos, and other media off the internal sdcard.
OP could try a factory data reset, located in privacy settings.
Just format your system and flash a stock rom, this ensure nothing is left on it . Than format your sd card if youre going to be including that when you sell it.
Hmmm, pictures of your wife? Could use that as a selling point, charge extra.
(j/k of course)
How am I supposed to back up my apps?
Supposedly titanium backup can't be used since it causes problems
Do I also have to wipe my SD card internal storage when doing a clean flash?
I am currently just using the default wipe in twrp.

TB might cause problems, but I've never had any problems and I've used it every time I've flashed a ROM, so if I were you I wouldn't worry about it. And yes, you only have to do the default wipe, but to be safe you can go in to advanced wipe and wipe system as well before flashing. Don't wipe the internal SD unless you want to though

As long as you don't back up system apps or system app data(messages, logs- have caused problems for me) TB will be fine. Make sure u manually backup any obb files for big games if you have.
OK so I'm abroad but really want to switch ROMs to miui which I already have downloaded but will doing a full wipe get rid of all my pictures?

As long if you don't wipe data then you're fine.
All you need to wipe is system, cache, dalvik cache and factory reset. Do not wipe data or else your pictures will be gone. You can always back them up to your computer.

Would an individual factory reset cover it?

Wiping data wipes the data partition which includes your apps and their saved data (game highscores, facebook account info) Your photos are stored on the SD card partition. The SD card includes your downloads, music, game data (usually all the data for high end games like NFS and GTA). Doing a factory reset in setting will wipe your data partition but not the SD unless you specify so. Therefore you should back up your apps and their data using Titanium Backup which basically zips the data partition and places it on your SD. Most Roms you do need to erase the data partition for them to function properly. By using Titanium Backup you can restore all that data by moving it from your SD card back to data

Hi guys I realized that when factory resetting with CWM, all the apps are gone but my SD Card still has all the stuff inside. Is it OK for the original SD data to be there when switching ROMS? Also if I do want to wipe the SD how do I do it?

It's absolutely fine as it has no bearing on the ROM installation
If you want to wipe it, go to mounts and storage > format /sdcard

It won't wipe your internal SD card if your wondering unless you select internal wipe...why are you wiping just the cache and data anyways? .....be careful before wiping things
