3 hours of screen time? Seriously? My GS2 was able to manage that with a 8 month old battery. I don't want to hear the whole "It's only 350 (16 GB) dollars, stop complaining." I love the phone, but this just sucks.
I have all sync off, no gps, no auto facebook/email/nonsense. I text with google voice.
I got my friend mark a galaxy nexus (GSM) for his birthday, and somehow he hits about 4 to 5 hours of screen time over 12 hour periods. He uses auto sync, and listens to boat loads of music and texts much more than me. Seriously?
Having sync nonsense off, I would expect the N4 to get at least 5 hours. It's a 7.7 watt-hour battery
The Nexus 7 has a 16 watt-hour battery and I've gotten it to 11 hours. Let's do some math here!
MATH TIME. Give me a moment to explain. For this process, we shall say the Nexus 7 only gets 9 hours of screen time since that's the norm.
Nexus 4 = 4.7" screen.
Nexus 7 = 7.0" screen.
67.14% difference.
Assuming the screens are similar, let's be super simple here and say the Nexus 7's screen takes 67.14% MORE power to run.
The Nexus 7 can get 9 hours of screen time. 9 hours to 16 watt-hours.
9/16(WH)=0.5625
Let's apply this new thing to the N4.
0.5625*7.7(WH)=4.33
Now that looks normal, 4.5 ish hours of screen time for the N4? Well...No. Remember the % difference?
Assuming the hardware isn't too far different. The nexus 4 SHOULD be able to pull... ((4.33*67.14)+4.33)=7.23
Let's round down to make up for differences in chip sets and what not.
7 hours of screen time should be possible. But it's not, this means than the Nexus 7 is incredibility power efficient...but the Nexus 4 is not. What gives? This would have to mean that something in the N4 is extremely power UN-efficient. I understand the N4 has a Radio in it and does a bit more work...but even if you drop it to 6 hours, or 5 hours...the N4 doesn't meet that.
Something is off somewhere. That is my point.
How do you feel about this? Post your thoughts.
Did you take into account the different battery sizes?

Sizes? You mean the 7.7 watt-hour vs 16? Then yes, I based all my logic off of that. Or am I misunderstanding you?

Mah doesn't work like that truely. Watt-Hours is more specific.
I presume both devices run on 3.7 volts, correct? That is normal for lithium.
I'm saying the Nexus 4 is no where near as efficient as the Nexus 7. 50% efficiency would give around 3.5ish hours. Tonight it looks like I am barely going to get 2 hours.
This is terrible. Something somewhere is zapping up mah battery.

Such is the Nexus 7. The newer core in the N4 should be AT LEAST 90% as efficient, honestly it should be better...but it's not looking at these numbers.
If the processor is the main reason, then that means it sucks, big time. It barely makes it to roughly 40-50% as effecient as the nexus 7.
Does Snapdragon just suck? XD
See my point? This phone can do more... it CAN do 5 hours. Hell, I bet it can do 6.
Sorry I didn't see your edit haha. I just got it on the 12th, but I've pushed it through about 5 cycles. Is this not enough? Ironically the first day I got about 5 hours and it wasn't fully charged. Loads of app installing, unlocking, playing, and...it got to about 4.8 hours I think to be precise.
So why am I now getting 2? Last night was 3.
Given that there are a few devices out there that have a quad core and still get a better battery life than the N4 with a lower battery capacity all leads to OS optimizations.
You give it the opportunity to use its power it will use it

Google gonna pull a stunt and be like... Oh with our new update you get 50% more battery life (that you were suppose to get out of the box), take that apple! your software updates gets people lost and stranded in the middle of now where! :silly:
This is pure speculation, but my first device wouldn't charge to 100% and the battery immediately dropped to 97% after taking off the charger. This RMA device I have on my hand is still at 91% with a screen on time of 20mins with chrome usage, xda and multiple other apps also open in the background.
I think some of the batteries are **** as well.
Now I don't know which device to keep as this screen is a bit warmer and has some very little screen bleeding with a black background. However I have 20days to play with this device before I have to send a device back. I'm expecting to get about 4 hours with the way things are going right now.

I am just talking about screen time.
I see what you mean, asus tablets quality control is good,s2 was good with a 2000mAh battery, I would like to disable 2 cores.since display chews battery
Inefficient.
Its not the core !
I found the main culprit sucking all the juice was Location settings, WiFi and Google now. I experimented around and found that if all these services were off, the phone lasted much much longer on standby.
The next issue is the screen - it seems to take a hell of a lot of power with very little to show for it.
The last issue is some apps - Youtube and Chrome seem to be juice eaters.
with 12.14 hours I managed to get 4.40hours screen on, web browsing, I think that's ok, disable Google now, currens etc, chrome does seem to chew more than standard browsers
stock not rooted yet.

People already have been working magic. Go flash Faux123's beta kernel and undervolt the processor by atleast -100mv, as well as enjoy other battery saving optimisations included with it.
Here's what I got on 25% brightness, sync off and a few google apps disabled (i.e. google plus).

The immediate drop to 97% isn't a defect. The battery charges to 100%, takes itself off the charger until about 95%, then goes back on the charger until 100% over and over. The problem is the software will report "fully charged" after initially reaching 100% charge, even if it isn't.

I have to say that after some experimintation I am getting consistantly incredible batter life. For instance, I took off charger at 6:00 am at 100% fully charged this am. It is now 6:00 PM (12 hrs) constant MS Exchange updating, internet browsing, and about 2.5 hrs on phone calls, I now have 81%.
Some facts:
I am on stock KG5
the following definatly made the batter life wose:
Beautiful Widgets
Widget Locker Lockscreen
I have NO battery monitor programs like Juice Defender. In fact I have purchased Juice Defender Ultimate and I saw a slight decrease in perforance.
I have to following apps installed:
Sirius XM Premium online
App2SD Pro
Google Maps update
MLB At Bat 2011
Scanner Radio Pro
You Tube update
OI File Manager
Only downfalls of KG 5 is no video with the Google talk and Flash crashes with the browser. Tried KH1 and KH3, not ready for prime time.
Thoughts and comments welcome.

I think the problem is not the battery mate. You have the same problem than me. Talking two hours and a half by phone every day is nasty, I am sure you have about 80 mails every day like me. This is the real problem to solve, we have to work less so the battery will last more , and kick someone asses who are always calling us and giving problems
100 battery threads but i didnt yet find a clear answer if 2.3.4 improves battery life or not..i wait for the official release so i didnt use any 2.3.4 rom yet...
i too have awesome battery life! my phone was unplugged 13hrs 17m 15s ago and now has 88% remaining..... stock bvkg3 orange rom...
I'm tired of these threads. It's not like samsung sold some phones with good battery life and some without. They are ALL the EXACT SAME.
You can't have a 'better' battery life than another SGS2 user. You can't have a 'worse' battery life either. What matters is usage.
Anyone can get 'incredible' battery life - simply install any ROM such as cog or vr, and do a full wipe. Install only 10 apps, and use the phone sporadically, dare I say, use the phone 'as a phone'.
What I'm trying to say is that the people reporting 52 hours of battery life or what not simply do not use the phone as much as others do. If it sounds logical, that's because it is.
There is no 'magic pill'. I get 54h on standby because despite having 205 apps, I used betterbatterystats to uninstall the worst offenders. But today for example I got 6h out of my battery because I spent 3h hours with the screen on, 1 hour on GPS navigation in my car, 1 hours taking pictures with the flash on, 1 hour playing angry birds. 205 apps, endless memory resident programs, custom-everything, even my wallpaper is 3d with 16x MSAA through CF3d, what did I expect?
The whole Iphone comparison is also whack. I own an iphone 4. Sure when stock the thing flies and stays on battery like you wouldn't believe. But try to customize it and you'll find the same problems that you find on android. Plus, it's twice as heavy as my sgs2
I prefer using my sgs2 as a laptop, the battery life is still better than my acer.
I call bs. But while Im at it i get over 100 hours on my battery. On standby. Omg. I can't believe how long my phone lasts when I don't use it.
Or.
I used my phone 15 hours today. 5 hours screen time. Heavy wifi and cell data. .and snes emulator 2 hours. And I still had 30%. Omfg incredible. I can't believe it not butter. And these are my usual stats or the like. And I don't have a sgs2. I don't get to jizz my pants every day like you guys. Omg. This must be the most incredibly dumb post I've ever posted.

@cigaro78 You are sooo wrong! The batteries are not all the same. It depends on many factors (how they are stored before shipping, and lotof thing).
Last year i did some test on 5 exact same new mobile phones (samsung omnia i900) and 2 of them have battery wear of 24%.
So the point is that you coud buy a new phone with some percentage of damaged battery.
Thats a first thing, the second thisng is that firmware (battery optimisation) could extremely reduce or extend battery life, depanding on optimisation.
I tried 5 firmwares, 3 of them 2.3.3 and 2 - 2.3.4. (all stock roms)
Best battery experience I had with 2.3.3 XWKF3 (2.3.3), and the worst on XXKH3 (2.3.4), but for some users 2.3.4 is way better for battery.
I can't get over 16h of normal usage at all. (1h phone talk, 50-80 messages, 25 emails, 30 mins on internet (3G) and about 20 mins of playing amtale). DIsplay usage is 44% (auto), 25% Voice calls, 10% android OS, Internet 9% Android system 8% etc...
I was quite chuffed with mine, 2d 12 hours! admittedly not heavy usage but moderate!

Exactly. my guess is also that it's because of the phone not being in the final software. Otherwise how could the same battery prove that worse compared to ICS lg Optimus? Jelly bean had a much better battery life in general too...
And IMO that is also the reason for the poor performance
Let's hope everything will be alright after the software update

The trend toward devices with internal batteries, ones that can’t be replaced, has come at the dismay of many power users who often need to switch to a fresh battery in the middle of the day. The Nexus 4 has a “non-removable” battery like most people expected, but it looks like it might be a lot easier to access than many might assume. You’re probably not going to make a battery swap in the middle of the day, but if you run into an issue with the battery, at least you know it won’t be impossible to replace.
Defective batteries and burn-out are a real concern with modern mobile device batteries, and while it may be fairly rare for something to go wrong, anyone with a smartphone who’s not willing to disassemble the entire device can tell you how frustrating it is to lose a phone to a bad battery. On November 2, a follower of Brian Klug, Senior Editor for Anandtech.com, sent him a tweet about battery replacement for the Nexus 4 on Twitter. Mr. Klug responded:
@aatifsumar there are two torx screws, then some plastic clips, it’s easy
Aatif pushed for a little more information and Mr. Klug responded with a great photo of the battery situation:
@aatifsumar two screws, boomhttp://twitpic.com/b9pbsj
The 2100mAh battery should be fairly capable of handling a day of moderate use, but for the fear of battery failure this is great news. Mr. Krug came through with another photo a little later giving a bigger picture of the situation.

Doesn't really solve anything anyone is talking about here. Being able to replace defective batteries is a separate issue from the phone's poor battery life.

i think they plugged in charger at the red square
surely, it is impossible to reach 16 hour
Yes that's true. The nexus 4 consumes lot of battery life when the wifi is used.
I take all these battery complaints with a grain of salt. First, software was not final. I find it hard to believe it is going to be THAT much different than Optimus G.
Something else -- I had a friend who got a US GS III and had terrible battery life despite doing everything. Exchanged for a new one and battery life was double the first one. Do you think any of these "get it out first" reviewers considered this as a possibility? Heck, most of them didn't even mention that Google told them the OS code was not final.
It is worth noting that LG has had battery issues in the past. Was one of the reasons I didn't get an LG last year.
I'm finding the battery life to be pretty good. Over 36 hours and still going for light use. By light use, I mean I played a couple of videos, made a couple of calls, general internet surfing, lots of drop box syncing and more. Mostly all over Wifi. Also some wifi tethering for an hour or so. I also find that the battery charges quicker than normal too. Hope this helps

How's the battery/charge life?
With a 3200mAh battery, i assume it's better than most...
I've been spoiled with my OG Razr maxx, and frequently go two work days without charging
But I want more screen...lots more
Given the Qualcomm chip that handles the radio management and is expected to reduce battery consumption by 20% and heat by 30% it should do quite well even with 1080p and 5.7" screen.

Probably about the same as Gnote II which is said to be the better than every phone not named Razr Maxx(HD). The 1080p screen will still take it's toll though.

This is my worry... I am spoiled with the RAZR Maxx HD now.
I just need about 16 hours with 4-5 hours screen time. Think the N3 will live up to that?

Please, the screen time is irrelevant it's how you use that screen time is what's important. You can watch netflix 9 hours non-stop, but you won't be able get these 9 hours of screen time any other possible way, only if you keep it on all the time.
So in average you might get 4 hours of screen time by using it for 15 minutes at a time, or next time it will be only 2 hours if you turn it on for 30 sec at a time.
Screen time on it's own is like artificial benchmarks - useless.

Screen on time with average use, ie. email/texting/web IS indeed a good indicator.... That is why screenshots should show the battery screen and screen time so that you can evaluate what is being used

That's exactly is my point - one must see how the phone was used together with the screen time before be able evaluate it. Unfortunately people show screenshot of first screen where all apps displayed and then screen time screen. That doesn't tell you anything either. The details graph is what's most important in battery live evaluation.
I can have 24 hours battery life and 7 hours of screen time. How? - by not touching the phone for 17 hours and then watch netflix til it dies. It will be amazing unless I show the battery usage details graph.
P.S.
Not arguing, just saying
I now understand why i barely get 2 hours of screen on time with my gnex... I use it way too much. When my screen is open, i'm usually reading news from flipboard news360 etc. that's why it doesn't last that long.
This is one of the best days I have had with my Maxx... When gauging battery life I look for what is being used the most. I am constantly emailing/texting/reading rss/web surfing/etc... if it is on it is being touched in someway. Seldom have I watched more than a few youtube videos, never netflix. The only time it is awake and not being touched is in the morning when I stream iHeart Radio.
I know that I would never be able to come close to this with the N3...

Hi,
Now that the Note Pro 12.2 has been out for a while now, what kind of battery life are you getting?
How much Stand By and On-Screen Time are you getting?
charge time
I would also appreciate if people can share how long it's taking to charge from 0-100%. Thanks.
I used mine quite heavily on Friday night and Saturday. Probably 8 hours in total. I still had 65% battery left. I did root and removed a lot of bloatware.
From my usage so far, looks to be about 6-8hrs screen on time.
This isn't very specific I realize but battery life seems considerably better than my old nexus 10 and recharging is also much faster.

What about charging it?
It is time for my old original LTE tab to go.I want an LTE, but like my old tab, Verizon is picking it up, and development on the verizon version might be sparse. My factory Tab, will only charge with a certain voltage. The Devs wrote a script to override that on it.
Does it charge in the car? If so, what amp is it? Do you have to have special charger or will it work on one of the 2 amp chargers, say for an Iphone? Have you tried it?
Thanks
standby is fantastic; as is video watching (dont' have exact total time but I think 3 hours of video watching used approx 30% battery).
-
however this game I was playing, symphony of eternity, really kills the battery. 2 hours used approx 45% (wish I had exact figures). Mind you the game has gotten old but I want to finish it (I play a few hours on trips - so started it approx 1.5 years ago; but finally near the end).

So far very impressed with the battery

I have the sm-p905 LTE version and i’m very impressed with the battery life so far.
on time screen that the tablet actually was on is right now 9h59m and battery still on 20%
watched in the 10 hours about 4h15m video's
transferred about 6 gb files with wifi direct
transferred about 19 gb files from my portable hd to the tablet with usb 3.0
then browsing, facebook, chat, ....
i must say all the apps i don’t use i have turned out permently.
4G was always turned on during the session, total time off the ac now is 1 day an 1h
my device isn’t rooted.
when the battery is completely empty, i’ll charge it and let you know how long it takes. First time i charge it .
I'm also very impressed with my Note 12.2 battery... I would say it can do 1 hour screen time per 10% of battery. I replace my third generation Ipad with this tablet... I the only thing iPad is better right now is battery life on stanby... Apple has done an excellent job on this side because it's way better on the iPad, even if I keep the sync on all the time for emails, contacts, calendar and other apps.
On the Notepro 12.2, if I keep the wifi off while on stanby, it's good (not excellent)... but if I keep it on all the time, I have to charge my tablet every 2 days. While it's off, I can get 3-4 easily when my regular weekday usage.
I've watched a complete film of 2 hours film on my tablet a few days ago... streamed from my Plex server to the Android Plex app on the tablet... and I lost around 20% of battery only... which is excellent.
By the way, I have the wifi only version (Exynos CPU).

The battery is good, if I dont use it, I just turn off to save battery. Otherwise i need to charge everyday (wifi on, sync, games, web, no sleep mode), now I can use few days in a row on single charge, depends on what I'm doing on it. This is not a smartphone/cellphone, so he dont need to be everytime on
Discuss your battery life here.
Anyone have any early reports on battery life
A user on Reddit has one and did a first rundown.
7.5 hrs sot on overall 8.5 hrs on a first charge.
Still to be seen how the standby is, but all reports look for it to be better than expected which is good news. Also he doesn't notice any ram issues. First impressions are good.

Damn fine if you ask me. Better than my note 4. I'm surprised as hell. I never believe the improved efficiency and optimization stuff but somethings working.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
I personally am not that worried about run time on the battery. My Note 4 has great battery life for me and I would expect the Note5 to be good. Quick charge really makes a big difference and the recent introduction of quick charge external battery packs means that I will not have to really worry that much about battery life. Others may have a different point of view.
One thing that really worries me is the internal battery. I have owned the Note2, 3, and 4. I have had to replace the battery on both the Note2 and Note3 when the original battery failed. I give my old phones to other family members and sooner or later the batteries always start to fail. On the Note3 it took a little over a year and a half. Probably about the same time period on the Note2. If you go to youtube you can watch some videos that show you how to replace the battery on the S6. It looks like a miserable project. Nothing I want to worry about. Finally, I am personally offended by the throw away connotations of a smartphone with an internal battery. With a glass screen protector and a case, these phones can still be like new after a year or so of use. It just seems wrong to build a product that you know is going to fail for as trivial a reason as the battery.

According to the images they posted - They had 8hr 42mins of total battery life
The screen accounted for 24% total battery - Android System 21% etc.. Not sure how screen can be 24% and still be 7hrs of a total 8hr 42 on battery ??
Fantastic if proves to be accurate though.

Just used the phone more. You'll see that the standby time went down as the SOT went up. I'm thinking it'll settle in around 22 standby and 6-7 screen on. Which is better then anything I've had for awhile. I have the note 4 and s6 active right now. And had a s6e. This phone will get me a little more then even the active I think.
