Hi, so i had rooted my nexus 7. Had some issues and attempted to run the toolkits to unroot and bring back to stock. However, now (even on the mac toolkit) I run things and cant get it to boot. Obviously the toolkit doesnt run well because the nexus boots to the green start button, then if i hit start, it says booting failed. it wont recover using the mac toolkit. can i odin? Need some help please! I'm stuck! Ive searched and read but nothing i've tried seems to work.

No Odin, that's only for Samsung. Can you get into the bootloader? You know, hold power button and volume + and - until you see the android character
Why'd you post this in the development forum? Ask questions in the Q&A Forum.

If possible get to a windows device, install the universal drivers (found on this forum somewhere) and flash a stock recovery image available here manually following the steps that they provide, or use mskip's toolkit (have had success with this, but I'd only use it if you actually understand what it is going to do in case it screws up)

First off, whenever you could access Bootloader, you could fix your tablet, especially those from ASUS.

how do you know for sure its not recognizing it in bootloader?
When I plug in my nexus I can't do anything. The hardware buttons don't work. I don't see anything in the drivers when I plug it in either.

Well, just to let you know, you haven't bricked it. Bricking something means you can't access the device what so ever i.e. it won't boot, won't go into recovery/bootloader mode etc. As to fixing it, I'm not sure. Can the device turn off and on? Have you got drivers installed properly (was fastboot and adb working before this happened)?

I am sure you tried every option , have you tried adb reboot recovery command, when u turn on phone, or adb reboot bootloader. If the manual way does not work, for example when device is powered off (volume down then holding power for 10 seconds). Let me know. Need more details.

So rebooting isnt the problem but getting into recovery or even getting my computer to recognize my device is what i need help with. The entire thing freezes when im in bootloader and try to plug into my computer. So i have to reset by holding down the power button. Ive installed and uninstalled drivers through wugfresh toolkit and nexus 7 toolkit.

That doesnt work either. The thing is, I can use the volume buttons BEFORE I plug it in, but as soon as I plug it into a computer the tablet freezes and i have to reset it.
So ive uninstalled all drivers including the SDK and reinstalled everything and im still stuck at the bootloader. Im starting to believe that its pretty much a lost cause. Can anyone help with trying to figure out what i may have to do now.
If you can get into the bootloader, you're not bricked, nor is it a lost cause.
Since you uninstalled them reinstall the drivers. Download the factory image (nakasi) from here, and then follow these instructions to use cmd and fastboot to reflash the stock ROM.
Ok I will try this.
Freakin love this site!!!
OK, so i now have everything up and running after about 2 hours of uninstalling and installing everything. Turns out that my cpu (or me) was duplicating the drivers. I feel dumb for that
Hi
Tried to flash a new kernel and all seemed ok (flashed phones and nexus 7 few times now) when I came out of flashing I hit a bootloop, I though nothing of it and tried to restart....same issue, so next I tried to go into cw recovery, no joy, it will not show again.
I can power/vol keys to android fastboot screen with start power restart boot and so on but if I choose recovery nothing happens, I am stuck with either a bootloop or stuck on android fastboot screen and not able to move from either.
I have tried the toolkit and most other things but the problem is it cannot see my nexus 7, even after installing drivers and so on the toolkit (top right) does not list my nexus as found, because of this I cannot reflash any stock firmware/recover/reflash cwr.
Not sure how I can get around this if my pc cannot see the nexus 7.
Thanks for any help

Hi
I cannot flash anything. On the fastboot screen I can scroll up and down powr off/start/recovery....if I choose any (apart from power off) nothing happens.
When I hook it up to my pc it cannot see it, nexus 7 toolkit also cannot see it, it does not list it as found so I cannot flash anything on to it, if I try it just says waiting for device, tried other things and same thing either waiting for device or asks if fastboot installed.

You are already at the bootloader screen. Use your computer to fastboot flash a new kernel. Being able to get into recovery has nothing to do with it. You screwed it up flashing a kernel. Its likely thats all you need to fix it. Flash a new one with fastboot.

Hey man, how did you get your computer to recognize your device? Would be great to finally fix mine as this is the same exact problem -- computer doesn't recognize it even though in fastboot.

I don't understand exactly what you are trying to do, sorry: you said the pc does not see the nexus, "even thought in fastboot".. If you say even thought, it seems to me that you are able to access Android itself or maybe recovery? In that case I can't see the issue.. Sorry my fault, non english mother tongue
But, if have the device soft bricked and you are able to enter ONLY the bootloader (that is what we call often fastboot), then you should start to remove the not working fastboot drivers installed into your PC: launch the nexus in fastboot mode, go to Device Manager into your PC and search for a driver with an yellow exclamation point. This issue is very common so I hope that you have it, too.. So, uninstall that driver, then unlink the nexus from your PC; after a few seconds attach it to another USB port and see if Windows install a driver (it should). If this new driver doesn't work, too, or if Windows does no install any, try this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426502
Hope it helps, let us know, see you!
EDIT: also, if you still have no luck, you should find a Linux or Mac PC/laptop and download the adb/fastboot binary files for that OS; this will definitively solve your driver issue ( @#ò#@!"@# Winzozz )

Hi sorry for not being clear. Basically I am only allowed to access the bootloader and my device is soft-bricked. I'm pretty sure I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers about a year ago when I originally did it, but I'll try again and let you know. Thanks!
After a successful day of unlokcing and rooting my new tablet, I decided to try and experiment with the dpi to try and get some phone based apps working using an app called "LCD Density Modder" I changed to Mdpi - 160, and the tablet turned off. It restarts to the Goolge logo, with an unlocked lock then dies again. What went wrong and how do I fix it? Help me out guys :crying:
Try holding down the power button for 10-20 seconds.
If that doesn't work, leave it plugged in for a couple hours and try again.

It turns on, and fastboot will show up, but Android will not boot. Or if it is booting, it's only a black screen. Is there any way to erase the pixel settings I've applied through recovery or the Nexus 7 toolkit? Or am I totally missing the point?
Edit: The screen does actually appear to be lit. Just black

do you have a custom rom recovery installed? go into your recovery and wipe data/factory reset. or if you flashed a custom rom, go into the recovery wipe data/factory reset and reflash your rom.
I've tried this, to no avail. After the Google logo, a portion of the screen flashes pink and the tablet goes dark again
You can use wugs toolkit to reinstall a factory image, or you can sideload one using fastboot command, wugs method is easier. The file you edited is the build.prop if you still have adb access you could use adb shell to edit the file and change the settings back. Sadly I don't have a clue as to the default settings for dpi in the n7 build.prop.
Cheers Danny
After attempting to factory reset, and trying all these methods I realized that USB debugging is now disabled :crying:
Have you tried booting into recovery (power and volume down) whilst the tablet is connected to the PC via USB? I found that helps you get into recovery sometimes from bootloops etc.
Cheers Danny
Yes, I can get into recovery and fastboot but any attempt at booting Android results in a black screen
Kk come down.. Boot into Fastboot download wugfresh toolkit, and click the flash back to stock and unroot option and check the box that says device will not boot.. Problem solved
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
I tried to, but the drivers wont install because it won't boot
Forgive me, I can do all this but I'm a little slow :silly:
Shafe when you rooted your tablet how did you go about it?
Did you use a toolkit? If so which one?
What type of computer did you use, windows, Mac or Linux?
If it was windows which windows was it, XP, vista, 7, 8?
There are known problems in getting drivers to work with certain windows etc. But if you used a toolkit to root then you must have had working drivers at some point during the process.
Any more info you can provide will help get to the bottom of this
Cheers Danny
I used the not so creatively named Nexus 7 ToolKit v 4.0.0 on windows 7. I've had the drivers and just reinstalled them from the toolkit, so they are now on there again. The problem is that I factory reset and since Android won't boot, I have no way of enabling USB debugging
Grab wugs from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475
[Toolkit] Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.1 [Updated 11/30/12]
And follow Francis instructions posted above, should sort your problem. You won't need more drivers as you already have them installed.
Cheers Danny
I tried this a couple times, but after trying to flash stock + unroot it says my ADB device was not found because USB debugging isn't on
Found a guide that will allow you to restore stock through fastboot
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ne...1477-guide-nexus-7-factory-image-restore.html
I am not experienced enough with fastboot to really be of more help. Hope this does the trick.
Cheers Danny
Yep, I found this a few minutes ago and am giving it a shot. I'm inexperienced also, but I guess I'll have to learn! Thanks brother
Forget all toolkits and use fastboot, you'll gain twice that way; working N7 and also you'll have gained some knowledge.
It's a lot easier than it seems.

I did the same thing to my 7 the second day after I bought it. What you described is exactly what I had experienced. This is what I did to restore my 7. I kept holding the power button until it turned off. Afterwards, I charged it for a while cause the battery was low. Then I got the tablet to go into fastboot mode by holding volume down 1st and then the power button. After that, I flashed using the Nexus 7 toolkit. Upon flashing, download 4.1.2 firmware using the toolkit and flash that to your tablet. 4.2.1wouldn't work for me. That brought my 7 back to life in new stock form.
In conclusion, I re-rooted using the toolkit and flashed a custom 4.2.1 rom using TWRP recovery.
If you can get your 7 into fastboot and your computer still will not recognize your 7, reinstall the drivers to your computer. I used PDA drivers. That worked for me.
I hope this works for you.

For me also Stock recovery never worked. Just try to flash CWM or TWRP.
Btw, What toolkit did you use and how did you install the drivers. Please answer these, so that someone can help you better.(Or is it just the 'mac toolkit' ?)
My suggestion: PLZ DO NOT USE TOOLKIT. If you are stuck at some point while using the toolkit, then you'll not know what went wrong and how you can correct it. Do it manually. It is the most hassle-free method. Trust me.
I think that ADB will not work in stock recovery(may be you can boot normally into your phone and then try adb). The thing which you are looking for is 'fastboot'.
1) Restart ur phone (Power Button + Volume Down, i guess) and land in the bootloader and connect your phone to PC.
2) In CMD prompt(or Terminal), type 'fastboot devices'. If your device gets listed here, then fastboot is working and drivers are properly installed. If not, then drivers are not properly installed in your PC. You need both ADB and FASTBOOT drivers. Install them properly.
PS: For MAC, i think the command is slightly different. Something like './fastboot devices' . Please look for the same in this forum or just google it and find out.
3) Follow this guide for flashing CWM and Rooting.

I used the nexus 4 Mac rootkit I found in here.
It unlocked my phone fine. But when it came to installing a recovery and root it didn't.
Neither my adb or fastboot are working now before I unlocked and I messed around and they worked now nada ...
I went to YouTube saw my problem tried pressing volume up and power like in the video and it just gives me a black screen and either turns the phone off or reboots it normally...not sure if in supposed to hold power and let go of volume or vice versa.
I placed all the files on the storage I just need to access stock recovery which I strangely cannot now...
Tried framearoot and got nowhere.

Just as I mentioned, i also had the same problem with stock recovery. So I simply flashed a Custom one(CWM, in my case)
Get the ADB and FASTBOOT working and that'll solve your recovery problem. Try fiddling with your drivers again. Not sure how to do that in MAC. If FASTBOOT is working, the you can boot into a Custom Recovery(you need not even flash it) and perform whatever you need to.
fastboot -c "lge.kcal=0|0|0|x" boot customrecovery.img
Again, look at the efrant's guide i referred above; i took this from there only.Remember to replace 'customrecovery.img', with the actual downloaded custom recovery image name.
Or you can try posting your problem with the toolkit, in mac toolkit's thread.
I have been youtubing everything and finally got to
Reboot system
apply update from adb
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition.
I now can get adb working so I tried ./adb sideload cwm from my desktop and it is giving me signature verification failed. installation aborted.
What can I do to resolve this?
I searched xda and no one can solve this issue from the threads I've read.
I fixed it! Whooohoooo! Installed cwm and root ....now to install pa rom.
Thanks for the help!
