Looking for an apk that will do this for me as z4root and gingerbreak won't work.
If you want root, why don't you flash a custom kernel, then boot into recovery and you will find an option for root built in, most will even install superuser for you too, with one click.
Tried using rom manager, 1 click speedmod but cant unless the phone is rooted
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
You need to look at the threads in Dev section for the likes of speedmod or Galaxian Kernels, you download the kernal and Odin, connect the phone in download mode and then flash the kernal as PDA (i think), then reboot your phone, reboot again into recovery and you will have CWM built in with root options, no need for rom manager...
Just make sure you pick the right Kernel for your current rom!!!
Yes but the point is i want to know if its possible via an apk . I know how to flash
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Since 2.2.1 it's been impossible to root the SGS without outside tools.
What are you hoping to accomplish?
I dont know maybe a portable root unroot apk for gingerbread, I can do it by pc but it would be good to do it via apk
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
seriously man. you are dumb. ukdtweak already give the clear answer for you.
Download this pacakage http://www.4shared.com/folder/sMLqbTXo/_online.html and istall via Odin.
Best
I think he know to root via install custom kernel, but he want to find another root menthod using app on the phone, doesn't need PC to flash custom kernel
this is the apk:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
so it DOES exist. seems some i9000 users were able to make use of the apk successfully, while most were not. and this is with 2.3.3. i suppose the chances of it working on 2.3.4 are even more unlikely.
Thank, you very much guys i would thanks you all but cant from the xda app
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
think best will be root with odin...
Does SuperOneClick work with 2.3.4?...

Gingerbread
I know of no apk.
Unfortunately the first root has to be done via Odin. All other rooted roms can be done via clockwork mod. Rom manager screws up when using it from desktop. 2 roms come into my thoughts: Cognition and Insanity. I downloaded a 3.3.4 rom, in the past and flashed via Odin and totally bricked my other phone. You can use Samfirmware.com for the latest secure rom and then find a rooted rom , of the same number and flash via Odiin.

Super 1 click must have a kernel which is unlocked to root the rom.

Yes, You can restore in from CWM. But you need a nandroid backup of the firmware you need to flash in order to restore it from CWM. To create that, suppose if you have just flashed DDLE1, dont install any apps / change any settings and reboot to CWM . In that go to backup and restore and click backup. Thats it , now you have a nandroid backup of stock DDLE1. Next time, restore the same using restore option in CMW.
You need to do these steps yourself. There are very few uploaded here as odin flashing is more reliable and easy that CWM restoring.
Heres one of them if you dont want to do it yourself (It isnt exactly stock but serves the purpose) :

Its DDLE1 Btw

Next time, post in FAQ thread for general queries.
Hey u said its not exactly stock, its got 14 toggle status bar and its modified i think.. So do u have a link for an original one.. Exactly stock.. ?? Would be glad if u help..

Well, no one cares to upload it as odin is better. You must do it yourself. Its pretty easy just follow my previous post. I dont have one too.
Actually i had backed up my stock rom, using cwm.. Now i m on creed but not able to restore the stock rom.. After restorng and rebooting, it gets stuck on sgy logo.. So i am asking for a link for a stock rom.. And i read the odin method.. I googled it.. But i found diff methods in diff sites.. So confused.. can u post a link for a propr odin method..

This is why CWM restore is not recommended. It often gets stuck on boot logo. Odin is easy and doesnt cause any problems.
Well. You said you want other method than odin. I explained it in 2nd post. Now youre asking about odin? What exactly do you want here -.-

does this work even if on custom kernel? i tried restoring before after i had bootloop using merruk's kernel..but the same thing happens.
we dont have any method to backup/restore kernel. savies cwm works fine but merruks sometimes failed to flash a zip file. if you have problem with merruk, the only way to revive your system is via odin.

But I've already applied the tweaks like v6 supercharger in stock rom.
Will this affect the installation of custom rom?
Are there any chances of bricking my phone?

Wait.
From cwm go to advanced backup and restore and restote everything one by one without boot.img
you will boot in your backup with merruk kernel.
