Update: Hi guys I have discontinued this thread to the fact that I do no longer own a N7100 device.
Hi Guys,
I thought of creating an official Modem list for the Samsung Galaxy Note II N7100 Modems
I will be adding all the modems available in CWM flashable zips.
What is a modem?
Modem/Radio/Baseband is all the same thing and can be seen by going to Settings - About device - Baseband version. It's basically a driver which receives and sends Mobile Network signals as well as handling switching between GPRS, 3G, HSDPA etc....... (but not WiFi connection, that and switchover between Mobile Network and WiFi is handled by the kernel). Reasoning as to why Modem has no influence on WiFi can be found in this post by Entropy
Why?
Sometimes some custom roms come with modems for various regions. If your modem is designed for different regions than yours then the chances are that it will sometime not work with optimal network performance.
You should look into changing your modem if you are experiencing the following... (I'm writing this from my personal experience, so all may not apply to you).
Poor 3G speeds
Very fast battery drain whilst on 3G
Poor call reception
How to check
Settings >> About device >> Baseband version
Requests
If you want I can make CWM flashable zips, I just need modem donors who will send me modem.bin files with relevant versions so that I could build up this list. You are free to PM me as well.
It is not practical for me to go around downloading all the N7100 roms in the world and extract the modem file.
How to Extract
If you have the N7100 rom zip
1. Extract zip
2. Send me a zip file of the following files modem.bin, optional (/system/lib/libril.so, /system/lib/libsec-ril.so)
From an already installed N7100 (if you do not have the ROM zip with you)
First of all you need to extract a modem if and only if you are in following situations
1. You use a network specific rom and you need to backup the network specific modem and move to a custom rom.
2. Your friend is using a network specific rom and you want to use the same modem.
***[WARNING!]Modems are device dependent
To extract the phone you are extracting must be rooted and usb debugging enabled:
Use adb to dump the modem to your internal phone memory, use this command
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p10 of=/sdcard/modem.bin bs=4096
exit
The dumped size will be bigger like 88MB don't worry just zip it and send me the link, I will make a CWM Installer.

Subscribed this thread and will look forward to some odin / cwm flashable modems. Thanks mate.
No one knows everything, so i wondered, what are "Modems"? I know those Modems that create connections between 2 points for Internet for example.
But Flashable Android Modems?
You know, I just looked for such thread through XDA yesterday and was surprised I never find one. Ended up grabbing binary from firmware and flashed through Odin
Thanks in advance!
Thanks but why here.

you need custom recovery...
weather it has root or not does not matter mate...
Also no need to worry about your country code. If a modem is working good then leave it as it is.
If you are having any issues with it then go ahead try different ones...

Guys,
Eveyone seems to always struggle with the question "is this firwmare KXY newer or older than KYZ". After a long search, I found some parts of explanations from places to places and as I owe a lot to this community for helping me taking the better of my past phones, I thought it was finally the appropriate place to send back my gratitude and summarise them in one post. If moderators feel this thread does not belong to this part of the forum, feel free to move it in the appropriate one (but I really do think it belongs to this part as it is ROM related).
To know what is your phone *ware versions, type on the phone keypad (if you want them to work on GoDialer or any software that sits on top of phone keypad, you need to add "*#" without the quotes before the code and "*#*" without the quotes again after):
Firmware ver: *#1234#
S/W ver: *#1111#
H/W ver: *#2222#
My bonus: a code to test all your phone capabilities (screen, sound, sensors, ...):*#0*#
Now that you have typed the firmware version code and that you are on the screen, you get 3 different pieces of information. As an example, my phone shows:
PDA: N7000XXKKA
PHONE: N7000XXKK5
CSC: N7000OXAKK9
PDA is the operating system with its programs and settings included.
PHONE is the modem firmware file, parts of which are required to access the hardware.
CSC (for consumer software customisation) are the regional settings applied which may install additional programs as well as provider-specific settings (APN).

CSC CODE MEANING
For CSC, you can notice a different scheme: between the phone model and the release code, there is no 2 letters but 3, in my case OXA, it is simply a code explaining from which country and which operator this phone is. OXA is supposed to be O2 UK and I'm using it for SFR France (coude should be then SFR).
Conclusion, this is not harmful to your phone having a different CSC code than the one you are supposed to use. But if you want to properly change it anyway, you can do it using the code *#272*<your phone IMEI># (if you don't have it, your phone IMEI can be obtained using the code *#06#), the CSC menu is displayed and shows your current CSC and a list to change your phone CSC.
Once in front of that list find yours there (http://www.samfirmware.com/samsunglettercode.htm), in the Samsung official letter code section and pray to have in in you CSC list
If it isn't, then choose the X?? version (for France it is XEF), it is for retail code (i.e. not operator branded). But be careful, if you apply a new CSC, it is phone factory reset (all your data and settings are lost).
VoilĂ , I hope this post will explain almost everything about phone firmware versions and CSC. And more than everything, it will help a lot of people here to better enjoy their SGN
ADDITIONAL COMMENT (if someone can validate or undermine it, that would be nice)
Often, SGN users are wondering if using KK1 kernel on a KJ4 ROM or a KKA on a KJ1 will brick their phone. I think people are mislead by Samsung revision numbers more than the real technology behind the letters and numbers. As far as i have seen ALL ROM kernels are based on 2.6.35.7 or 2.6.35.14 (which includes very very insignificant changes to the Kernel structure, i.e. mainly bugfixes) which would mean that applying kernel on ROM has something like 99% to work perfectly fine and 1% to end in bootloop which can be avoided flushing cache and dalvik cache. The main point on kernels is the fact to loose CWM Recovery. But hopefully, some great minds like ChainFire release as soon as sources are made available, kernels with CWM Recovery in it.
isnt pda is the operating system phone is the modem
It does work in Go Dialer but you have to enclose the code in a additional *#....#*.
Ex:
Firmware ver: *#*#1234#*#*
@kromosto, thanks for noticing it. At least you read it thoroughly - I corrected it.
@mdalacu, thanks for the codes. Added the trick in my post.
Bonjour Steph
Fine... mais sais tu s il y a un moyen de mettre CWM justement sur un note en KK9 et KK5 ? pour l instant j ai l impression que non .....
falgard,
This forum is English only.
To summarise to non French members: you wanted to know if it was possible to add a CWM Recovery in any ROM and make it persistent.
As far as I have understood, recovery partition is not working the same way as in in HTC phones. In HTC phones, recovery has a partition that is not overwritten when a ROM is flashed. In Samsung phones it seems that recovery is in the Kernel partition.
It simply means that you need to compile kernel sources (hence being able to have them) to include recovery in it!! And today, I have only seen two people being able to do that: the venerable ChainFire (that has provided so many utilities, hacks and so on) and RiverSource. But if you are a kernel compiler master, get in touch with them to have CWM sources, look in Samsung's open-source repository for new kernel sources (KK9, KKA or whatever more recent) and bless us with a new CWM kernel that rocks... or wait for a kernel master to show us his magic
Of course
It 's an english forum, and it was just a blink as we are on the same country...
Yes I am aware about the way to install and compile Cwm but Chainfire will do it, I think, as usual...
Have a nice afternoon
Best

I'm from costa Rica central America and my csc is set to TPA for central America and I'm running stock rooted rom... my question is. If I install any custom rom that had its csc set to Europe. Will my data connection speed and phone signal "power/reception" be affected? Or the csc has nothing to do with this?
I appreciate your help. I want to ask before I decide flashing any rom

Hello there.
I'm sorry if I haven't used the search engine right but I couldn't find a thread similar or answering my question.
I bought my phone, the note 3 in the Netherlands. It is an unbranded phone(phn) as far as I know.
But I am living in belgium. And for some reason I can't get my 4g to work with the Base operator.
Or with any other operators. For some reason there is no LTE option available in the network settings.
Now I have been searching on Google and went to some stores and compared my csc and ap version to the note 3 working on lte on the same network in the stores. And I saw with every note 3 in the stores that the ap version was ap n9005xxuena7 and mine is n9005xxuena6.
How come my unbranded phone with csc n9005phnena2 is not getting the update that let's me use 4g?
At least that is what I think?
After previewing the post, I noticed I have to update my signature. ..
Your carrier probably hasn't enabled it on your line.
Ring them up
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
I doubt that. They informed me about 4g them selves and the Sim they gave me had a small picture of 4g(lte) and 3 dual carrier on it.
Have you tried a factory reset?
I had a similar problem with my btu uk device after flashing the Polish na6 official firmware. Very unreliable mobile data connectity and went to 4g very rarely.
I didn't factory reset but instead flashed a custom rom (also based on na6) which fixed the problem completely.
I'd suggest factory reset first to see if that helps.

I don't know about Base, but with Proximus, you really have to call the customer service to ask them to activate the 4g for you. Did you try that?

I have a cheap abo with Proximus and have 4G on my note 3.
I don't have to do a thing about it so you don't have to call them its already activated for every abo.
I don't think it is operator related. Because my Sim works on my mother's s4 perfect.
I guess it is the update that is necessary to activate 4g on unbranded phones.

I can't say what's wrong with BASE, maybe they haven't enabled 4G towers yet...I'm on XL from Proximus and I get LTE all over Vlaanderen.
Well, try to flash some of the Polish 4.4.2 available all over XDA. My Note was also bought from Belsimpel but never had any issues with 4g--->with the latest NB3 (OTA) there's no more 4G sign...it's LTE.

Kies Backup works just fine...
Not every provider has 4G enabled in every CSC version. I get this question about 12 times a day on the T-Mobile NL forums.
I had 4G on DBT with T-Mobile NL two months before the T-Mobile NL Branded and PHN versions had it.
Resetting won't make a difference. This needs to be toggled in the firmware itself by Samsung. On most other devices you can use the *#*#4636#*#* or *#2263# dialer code to manually force the network mode, but they disabled it on the Note 3.
Try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.viaero4gtoggle

I am a noob with flashing custom roms and rooting.

No need to flash a customROM. If another official ROM has 4G enabled for our provider, you could flash that over PHN. No rooting, no knox triggering, no warranty issues. The only issue you might run into is that nonsense people have recently been getting flashing over PHN with the filesize.
NA6 is the most recent firmware for PHN. Could you go check in the stores what CSC version the devices are using that do have 4G on your provider? To my knowledge NA7 is a provider-specific version limited to T-Mobile and daughter-companies.

Or should I look that up ?
I am going to look that up no matter what but advise and how to is always welcome.
Thank you for the help everybody.
EDIT: it explains on the website it self how to flash. Thank you.
Gonna let know if it worked.
Hello Xda community,
Personally i own an unbranded GS4 i9500( currently i have Android Jellu Bean) and i wanted to know which version of kit kat is the best to update to, since there are many options in sammobile.
- Country: India
PDA: I9500XXUFNB3
CSC: I9500ODDFNB3
And the rest are from different countries(Trinidad and Tobago, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia) but they have the same PDA and CSC, unfortunately it isnt released in my country yet...
PDA: I9500XXUFNB7
CSC: I9500OLBFNB4
Thank you in advance
The best u can do for avoid problems is:
1- Conect it to Kies 3 for know ur code region. CSC are the 3 letters btw parenthesis. The list of codes for region is HERE
2- Wait the update for ur code region. Why? Each country is different (some have LTE, others only 3g, differents modems, etc).
3- If its try for try.... select the one u wish but take care of the step 2 :highfive:
Indian one is quite stable and battery friendly.

As the i9500 does not have LTE, is safe to flash both. I did saw some improvments in phone calls and time to do the call in the indian version from the latest Omega Rom. The v18 was based on Russian version and v19 is based on indian.
Hope this help.

As u know our phone was never official sold in Europe ( Central + western ) Czech is Central Europe i think
Anyway as i noticed roms for this phone are divided in 3 main category
- DDU*** - India / Nepal / Sri Lanka
- UBU*** - Brazil / Trinidad and Tobago / Chile
- XXU*** - Kazakhstan / Ukraine / Uzbekistan / Saudi Arabia / Russia / Pakistan / Egypt etc
Since u live closer to "eastern europe" i would advise u to try XXU*** modems
Thank you
My rom is XXU....
Did you made some changes in your Modem comparing to Stock one???

No u can`t modify modems
They are stock ones taken from different stock roms.
Some people say they have better reception with one version compared with another .
On XXU*** i did not notice a big difference tho but u are free to try and see, anyway as i learned from S2 era ... each modem is BEST for some poeple and WORST for others. Is a trial and error thing There is no such thing as BEST modem for all
Since i live in Romania i find XXU better then UBU or DDU tried all of them
If I understand well, it is not necessary change modem to your XXU... in case My ROM is XXU...
Is it right?

So and so
Newer versions of modems SOMETIMES are better
If u are happy with signal strenght / voice quality / speed of data , no u don`t have to change
Just a little note to the first post:
You can browse the modem file in Odin also to AP. Should work too.

That's true. CP is acronym for Cellular Processor.

I know, that there is no official version. But which version would you all recommend for Europe? At the moment I'm using Trinidad and Tobago since this rom had German Language
Now I have CM11 and no longer stock ROM and wanted to try a different (better?) modem, that's why I'm asking.

The ones for Eastern Europe XXU***
Hi I just wanted to ask are there any newer modems? Like 1,2,3 in version names indicate newer modems or these are just baseband numbers?
Also, my i9192 has I9192XXUBNB1 baseband.. Can I try every modem given in first post or should I refrain from some modems?
