[Q] Using app cache cleaners - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed since the 4.2 update any cache cleaner app I try to use makes my n7 reboot. Before even getting to cleaning part. I'm trying to save some space and don't want to do it individually. Is this a known issue?

Google Voice issue in SC 2.X

Every few hours Google Voice seems to reset itself to a freshly installed state, stopping it from syncing and causing me to miss messages. Only after I open the app and go though the initial configuration pages again does it function properly (until it resets itself again). This behavior has only occurred on the latest Super Clean 2.X roms. I've wiped, cleared cache, fixed permissions, etc. Anyone else noticed this?

I'm using Google Voice with SC 2.4 and it seems to be working fine. The only thing I can think of that you did not mention is some kind of task killer. I use Mobile Guard and I had to clear Google Voice off of its kill list.
Then it's probably just me. I'll try a data wipe again, should fix it.
Thanks.

issues with Market and Amazon App Store after power loss

I left the battery run out on accident, and now when charged and fully working( able to browse the web and other network related activities) I cannot download anything from Market or Amazon app store.
The download says it starts then it errors out.
Download was unsuccessful, please try again
This has happened to me twice.
Running Dexter Mod 1.41.
Market App
Have you tried to clear the cache?
So I tried to clear cache..no work.
I cleared the data for just the market and it worked after that.
Bumping this thread.
Anyone else have something similar happen?
Ran out of battery in stand by. Market won't open now. Tried restart, clearing data for market app, tried wiping cache, tried reset switch... no dice. Really dont want to start all over.

Problem is still there. I found something like this in logcat for every time I tried to open market
Code:
w\vending could not check for tos
Anyone have any ideas?
for market issues please follow these instructions in the order i found them to work;
1
open market, if possible, tap around to create cache
2
goto settings, apps, RUNNING SERVICES
3
stop google framework, genie, and any other google service listed
4
goto settings, apps, CLEAR CACHE, NOT DATA
5
open market w expectation of fc, if it does open, close it.
6
turn fone off and on.
i found these Specific instructions to work on multiple android devices. most folks exclude turning off services, wipe data when they should be wiping cache, and they dont restart. so try in the numbered order listed.
if this doesnt work, i can direct you to a market cleanup update for another device. google xda simple green market. should turn up a thread w patched market for another device, and a market cleanup update that may help.
worst case, factory reset would do it. if you dont want to lose your internal storage data, maybe try my clockwork recovery and just format the data partition. this would at least leave your internal storage folder alone.

Thanks. Everything came back as soon as I killed the Google messaging service.
I don't understand how the messaging service could have had me all locked up, but its fixed now... in additional to some other apps that weren't authenticating.
supplemental market tip would be to open google talk in the event some google services, specifcally the downloader, doesnt start.
not sure if todays lack of google data or messaging permission xmls would have any relevance to messaging services having issues.

Apps in Market not showing up under "My Apps"

The Market has been very unstable as of late. I have like 105 apps installed. Sometimes it shows 64 sometimes 42. Before the latest update, I was able to delete market data and cache and it would find all of the apps again, but the newest Market doesn't offer that option.
I have done an exhaustive search on this issue and have found very little. Can anyone offer any help?
It's glitching and not reading apps moved to sd as installed. Restart the market and/or clear it's cache. Sometimes that fixes it for me. Other times a reboot helps.

You could try wiping data on the Market app from Titanium Backup.
If you've got TB pro, you could also run the Market Doctor.

You can't clear cache or data any more, hence my problem.

no love for the friend
It looks like some of the cache cleaner apps in Play store let you choose which app caches to clean. Perhaps you could find one that lets you exclude Maps.

That's the problem i am searching and i cant find any, only option i can see is manually clear the cache of every app.
I even tried check paid apps
I don't think you need to clean all app caches periodically as a general practice. Some issues occasionally create the need to clear a cache, but you can do that from Settings > Apps, pick your app. I've only cleared a cache if was needed to fix a problem.
You could use a memory manager instead. While it won't clean cache it will be more aggressive about closing out apps that have been backgrounded.
But I don't think either is needed. Unless you are trying to solve a problem. Memory management has gotten pretty good in Android.

Anyone for a cleaner that will exclude maps? Only way I found to do this is copy the map cache folder to a other folder, then clear all cache, then copy the map cache back. I have 150mb of offline maps that I like to keep, but it's nice to clear all other cache weekly.

[Q] Can't reset defaults in Google Now!?? Ugh!

So I'm running CM10.1 on my N4, running a Baked Blacked Out version of Google Search 2.3.11, and I've run into a very frustrating problem. I accidentally selected my browser for default navigation, and I wish to wipe that setting and change it to Maps. I first tried going into Settings>Apps>All, finding Google Search and wiping both the cache and clearing data. I then did a reboot (to be thorough) but somehow the app is still retaining that default setting for my browser. I have also tried reinstalling Search, as well as clearing defaults for Maps (not that that should be the answer) but still not luck. Anybody have any thoughts or advice? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Oh wow, epic DUH moment! I have no idea why I was clearing the Maps defaults, I meant to clear the browser defaults. I'm a freaking moron, major brain fart there. Mods, please feel free to delete my dumb thread while I slowly crawl away to Facepalmville
