Just wondering about video format compatability, I have a galaxy s3 and I can dump darn near any video on it and it plays it like a champ with the stock video player. The N7 on the other hand is really picky about videos, and most of the time I have to use vplayer to play anything and it plays like crap. Can anyone weigh in on this?
Use MX player seems to be fine for me
MX or Dice, and throw anything you got at it.
I know you can get video apps that will play different file formats, I guess my main question is why do different devices have different video capability when running almost the same OS?

I buy Downloadable videos from Amazon pretty often and they are in wmv format. I already know It doesn't work with the video player, so I tried others like Rock player. But when I tried playing it, it shows me a mess of colors and no sound. Also I tried to Play another wmv file and got the video to play but got no sound. Does anyone know of a better video player replacement other than rock player that will play files like these with success? Or maybe even a way to get Amazon videos to play On android?
Going to finally get around to putting some videos on my tab. I just wondered what format was best? Do you guys use the stock video player? Probably will mostly be anime stuff and am planning on just converting with Sony Vegas.
Any help would be great!
the best format for the tab seems to be mp4, but I play 720p mkv files fine too, including over wireless. The stock video player won't cut it so you should get a better player. There's plenty on the android market, mx player and mobo player are free, dice player is not. I use mx and it works fine.
I haven't yet found a format that BSPlayer won't play fantastically Plus it's free, so there's no reason not to IMHO...just remember it'll ask you to install a plugin first time round - install whichever one it asks you too, that'll improve performance as it will use hardware decoding
Change your video format to mp4 with a xivd or dvix code, you will find it so cool in this tab. This format support 1080p video.
This tab is weak with h.264 code.
Thanks to all you guys got it working great with Bsplayer!
Put the newest build i could find for this guy. Bought him off ebay for a cool 135 free shipping and has turned out to be amazing. Using him with my old Tzones plan running NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA.
Everything runs great except videos. If I am streaming an MP4 its like an 80% chance the file will just be green and blurred like scrambled cable. Sometimes it will play just fine. Even crappy 240p files will be green in both the regular android player and MX Player.
Now I'm trying to see which type of 720p files the phone can play. After a couple of handbrake encodes it will play the 720p in MX Player but it will be frame ratey. The stock player wont even touch the file.
I check the decoding options in MX Video and only software decoding is enabled. Is there an ICS build capable of playing videos with Hardware Decoding.
Your thoughts guys !
Edit --
Tried with Mobo Player and still the same error.

Install MX Player and install the Armv7 addon for MX Player (it will be in the related apps or something in the play store) and use software decoding. I have also found 720p playback to be atrociously laggy, but I tried Inception at 480p and it plays great.
Installed and it definitely seems to be working with the green videos but 720p seems like a no go...
Is it the rom or is it the phone ?

Hmm, 720p playback is usually listed as a working thing but I don't see how NexusHD2 is in any way inferior to the other ROMs, it definitely has a comparable performance.
Hi all,
I'm looking to play 720p mkv hi10p videos with embedded subtitles on my Nexus 7. I'll probably want to be doing this by streaming it off a computer or accessing a Samba share.
Does anyone know if this is possible?. Trying to toss up my purchase with the knowledge that its easy / do-able to watch tv shows, movies and things like anime.
Cheers!
I'm just downloading vPlayer to see how it works with my Serviio server. I'll let you know how it goes.
the latest beta VLC player worked for me, was having abit hit or miss with mxvideo player but VLC just played everything i threw at it off my western digital tv live hub.
I tested a 720p hi10p video yesterday using MX Player Pro, no streaming over air.
A couple of frame drops, cannot handle panning scenes very well.
Styled subtitles however look ace, I haven't bothered to check out advanced typesetting though.
Have been exploring the ability on my phone with ES explorer and different media players. 8 bit 720p mkvs work perfectly. 10 bit just falls about for me though on a GNEX with just about every player. Obviously there is a difference in processing power though.
Keen to know if anyone gets it working / how (even if its a solution like PLEX).
Have had my MediaPad M3 for one day and loving it so far. Yes, it has great sound but I don’t find any apps on the device that can make best use of the sound. I want to listen through my Bose headset and like booming bass. I want to play my mps3s and mp4s on players with an equalizer. I have spent a few hours searching and so far the best video/equalizer player I have found in VLC. I don’t even mind paying a few dollars if someone has a better suggestion. On my older android I was using Poweramp for mp3. Pretty good actually but I am open for other suggestions.
Poweramp is still my go to mp3 player. You could try neutron as well, it extremely configurable but not the most user friendly or best looking app.
MXPlayer with AC3 support (movies)
JetAudioPlus with Bongiovi plugin (audio).
Both are amazing. I've even tried, as a performance test, to play 4K AC3/DOLBY/x265 movies : no lag, super smooth. Super viewing pleasure ; don't have to reencode or find 720p versions. Subtitles work perfectly fine. I do love this tablet.

I have used mx and I like it. I just can't figure how to put an equalizer on it. Can that be done? Picky that way.
I don't know actually, interesting question.
We should try to install several 'system wide' equalizers and see if mx-player takes it into consideration.
Actually I am having very good luck with VLC. I have also installed and tried - Video Player for android. has equalizer option https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=video.player.audio.player.music&hl=en
and Video Player HD is a best video player with AC3 audio support Equalizer support. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=videoplayer.mediaplayer.hdplayer&hl=en
These both seem to be copies of VLC with adds. On one at least I had to reset the equalizer every time I turned it on were VLC remembered my settings. I also like the layout on VLC more. The one drawback with it is that you have to stop the movie to adjust the EQ but not on the other two.
I was never thrilled with VLC on windows because it does not remember where you stopped in a movie. With android it does resume play.
MX Player Pro
I personally use MX Player Pro App and for music I use Samsung's default Music Player in my S7 Edge.
MX Player Pro for anything video related and Rocket Player for audio.
Do 1080p 60fps videos on YouTube play smoothly?
