[Q] how to install Window phone 7.8 - Trophy General

I was wondering if anyone could help.im trying to put a custom rom on my HTC Trophy for the first time and I don't know how to do so if anyone could help I be greatful
Mobile os trying to put on is Wp7.8
current WP7.5
I have windows 8

If it's the Verizon trophy, here's a thread with everything you wanted to know but, was afraid to ask...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1503298
By the way a 2 second search found about 4-5 threads on this subject. Next time please take a second and use the search, it really works good on this site...
BTW... Please hit thanks if this helped you

In order to install WP7.8, you must first use HSPL on your Trophy. Visit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1503298 for the HSPL guide, just like what the guy above me said.
Then, you must install the custom rom itself. I recommend XevRev, which is stable but also fully unlocked. You can find the installation guide for that rom at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1864921. Hope that helps, good luck!

hi . excuse me ... what's different between throphy w & thophy ?

The HTC Spark W is Verizon's version, more commonly known as the HTC Trophy. The HTC Spark is the EU version of the device.

Yeah, if you try installing a Spark_W rom on a Spark or Spark rom on a Spark_W it won't work.
Basically, only install Spark roms on a Spark device. And only install Spark_W roms on a Spark_W device.

Since you didn't get your Trophy from the US, it's probably the Spark. I don't think you have much choices for the roms. I'd go for the Sinato Rom, it comes with WP7.8 and has a full unlock. Also, I'm running that rom on my phone right now and it's great!

please...help!
I just bought my htc trophy running windows 7.5 I wish to flash a 7.8 rom but i must confess that i am a noob!!!
could anybody guide me how to start?I would really appreciate any help(my trophy is the european version)

New Questions here, old one at the bottom.
hi and thanks to everyone for your answers... you helped me a lot.
but:
I tried various 6.5 and 6.5.3 roms and found a lot of bugs in all of them... and that's not really my style. I want to go back to stock firmware 6.1 and there are not many options (or maybe i wasn't able to find them). Where can i find the Stock Firmware section or something like that, if they are unbranded even better, and if you can direct me to the latest one even better... i have installed the one from Orange in spanish meanwhile, i think it's Ver 1.57.75.3 found here. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566929 but if there are better unbranded ones i'll be very happy to install them... (how about this one: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521354).
Thanks a lot again in advance...
old Question:
Hi, i bought yesterday my new Opal and i have no idea how to update the rom to windows 6.5... I´m a bit of a perfectionist so i wanna get things right from the beginning, and i used to mod motorola phones so i understand some of the technical stuff, but htc is completely new to me.
So far, this is what i have understood:
to update:
1.- install hard_spl
2.- install custom ruu
3.- install new rom.
But i have a lot of questions on what is each one of those things and the advantages they give.
What does Hard_SPL do?
What is the Custom RUU for? (what is the RUU?)
What is the most stable and least customized rom with winmo 6.5? which rom is the most used by this forum?
What is titanium?
and last: how is the Opal unlocked? (if posible)
Mi goal is to update to winmo 6.5 but keep my phone looking as stock as possible and as stable as possible...
all the help i can get will be very appreciated...

Congrats for your Htc touch viva!
Ok now initially Htc touch viva has its official spl which would not allow your device to upgrade to custom roms. You can only upgrade to official roms. So Spl is a kind of lock To unlock that only we use Hard SPL After installing HSPL you can upgrade to custom roms.
And you understood slightly wrong because Ruu = Rom update utility its just a app which is used to upgrade your rom in your device. So u dont install that. After HSPL directly rom
And about the roms i cant say coz every one has different flavours try them all At last titanium is a new interface made by microsoft and introduced in wm 6.5 and above.
A Word of Caution....
I want to add one thing...(IMPORTANT!!!)

WM6.5.x has not yet been officially released for HTC Touch Viva T2223.

Don't think that a particular WM 6.5.x ROM will work for your device just because it worked like a charm on somebody's device. Believe it or not, though it may be the same model ex: HTC Touch Viva T2223, there are variations depending on the country.

I want to add one thing to what freelancer said:
Imo it is not ALWAYS the best to stick with the stock version. I had branded ROM shipped with my phone, hardSPLed it and installed custom translated unbranded ROM.
Does the same thing as branded ROM did but way faster. And some features like the HTC task manager didn't work with branded rom at all. Now everything works just fine.
I agree that stock ROMs are the best/fastest, but just not if you have a branded one. It slows down your device.
Just my opinion

Lol, who said that stock is rom is best as far as about opal you should go ahead with custom roms i have seen that custom rom gives more free ram then stock. Plus task manager in stock rom that can be done in custom also the thing is the more the rom is lite the more efficiently your device will work do you know the stock rom .nbh file size is more than 100 mb whereas a normal custom rom is around 90 mb if there are many app and you can create less than 50 mb stock rom also. Wm 6.5 is perfect for opal inface wm 6.5.x also.

THE VERDICT!!!!
Custom Roms RULE!!!!!
i don't mean to disagree with you guys (you know better) but i didn't mean to say that WM6.1 v1-vx is bad but as far as WM6.5 is concerned....they have disadvantages like they are buggy and also consumes battery quite fast.
Appearance wise...WM6.5 is way ahead...but performance wise....I'll stick with WM6.1 anytime.
currently i am using WM6.1 v14 by PDAVIET it is nearly perfect!!!!
regarding differences in hardware...i was meaning the CARRIER...like Verizon, DoPoD, T-Mobile (MDA Basic), iDea (India) and so on...sorry...
regarding stockspl...mine was SPL 1.35.0000...i couldn't find any download link for that..
hey brothers i think tht opal also should have a completely cleam winmo 6.5.3 rom plxxxxxx i love it on mi friends wizard which has less ram....i know ya guys can do it...and also brother winmo is all about customising and making changes to interface wen ya want... its not only themes..it has completely different uis tht can be swithched ezily... so ya gotta try these.....i guess after trying diferent lock screens games today screens thn aftr tht rty theroms

How to BackUp original ROM

Hi, I live in Australia and I bought my HD2 from TELSTRA the other day.
Quite happy with it so far.
I'm interested in trying some other ROMs but want to BACKUP the original ROM that came with the phone. Is there a program which will let me do this?
Thanks

well, i look for dumping the rom not back up.do u suggest any guide prepared for htc hd2?
thanks a lot
its not easy, my advice is download the one mentioned above.
but, if you are technically minded, see this.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427507
its for the raphael not the hd2 but the process is the same - dump the raw files then use a kitchen to re build the rom file.
Like 99 out of 100 times your telco provides your Official Rom through HTC's website if you register your device. I have a HTC P3300, one HTC P3600 and an HTC Diamond and I can download the official rom from HTC.
I know this is not what you're asking for, but it's the official rom installed on your device. If there are any extra apps and gizmos by your telco provider, then I don't know.
thank all the helps.

cant be unlocked free, unless through tmobile or whichever carrier you got your phone from.
I have the T-mobile HTC HD2, so if I flash my HTC HD2, will it be same with the HTC HD2 Leo ?
Thanks
no dont flash HTC HD2 Leo Rom. only flash Rom that compatible with T-mobile hd2
so when we say flash the ROM for the HTC HD2, it means we flash the T-mobile not the LEO, right ?

The first link is for the HD2 my friend, if you flash another rom not designed for your phone probably you will end with an expensive brick.
The second one, is for the snap...but it's for the sprint version you should check out which version do you have. You will not need hspl to flash your stock, if you get an error while flashing that probably isn't the stock rom for your device.
Moved to general as not rom development.

[Q] NOR vs NAND

Hi , I have HD2 and I want to install android OS on it. I found a lot of solutions on this website like booting from SD Card and NAND solutions, but I have one question. Is there any NOR version installation and in general which is better NOR or NAND ? Sorry for this maybe general question but I need help and I would also wanted to consult with you . Thanks , every help is appreciated.
Hi there mate.!
Never heard anything about the NOR version that you are talking sorry
There are 2 ways to install Android OS in your device and they are posted in sub-forums in here and i think you have already saw them
The SD version is if you don't want to leave wm6.5 but wanna give Android a try!
(thats the easiest way to install it)
And the NAND version if you have decided that you want Android OS in your mobile and ofc Android will have much better performance in NAND than SD
PS: my opinion is if you don't want mw6.5 anymore go read some posts and install the NAND version cause you will have much much more performance
I hope i helped
there are no nor versions, you on about running a version in ram ?
Hi and thanks for a quick reply and more than helpful answers. I need to ask you several more things. Since I want to install NAND version, because of the performance, I need the latest version . I saw several instructions for 2.2 and 2.3 android. Can you give me the link to the 2.3 newest installation link. Also is there any known issue after installation (like no wireless network, or some applications doesn't work...)
best off looking in the dev section, depends on whether you want a sense rom or not

As Richy said there are sooo many roms for you to try
The 2.3.5 rom for me is the most stable if you want your phone to work 100% 24/7 with no battery consume!
Now its up to you if you want Sense 2.2 or 3 if you want MIUI or Gingerbeard or or or or or
For me it goes like this :
1:Go to NAND sub-forum
2: Find a good and updated Rom for your mobile (at the front of each title its the release day) enter it and read the full description the dev gives you and to all the steps!!!!
3: for correct use of your wifi,gps,etc.....find a good kernel (Most devs gives you a kernel of their choise with their ROM)
Thats all you need to know...all you have to do is read the hole post carefully
And just an opoinion..if you want a fast and stable (not a fancy one) ROM go for a MIUI and a good one is this Mwakious
and this is Kefir's Kernel
Good luck and if you need anythink PM me
PS: if you think i helped you hit the THANKS button

When the T-Mobile version is mentioned, it is purely indicating that it is a TMOUS HD2 with 1024 MB ROM and the T-Mobile logo on the top. The carrier doesn't matter

Are you sure that carrier doesn't matter , US has different frequencies , and this is T-mobile US (TMOUS). If the carrier doesn't matter ,can I then install in switzerland on orange HD2 according to the procedure for T-Mobile new gignerbread ?
If not can someone give me some links for my HD2 please. I searched NAND 2.3 android but some of the topics are from 2010 and some of them after installation have various types of problems.
Thanks !
Hi there, I was exactly where you were 3 weeks ago. I picked up a second HD2 as my WM HD2 phone is heavily loaded with apps and files etc. and I did not want to risk stuffing it. I played with a couple of versions with HTC Sense but then tried TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 and found it smaller, faster and more stable + much slicker than WM.
After just 3 days and a few new apps like Swype and Wi-Fi tethering, I cut over to droid forever. Next I will do my original HD2 to make it a mirror backup.

As long as you have a TMOUS phone, you can install the T-Mobile US version. As for the Android ROM, have you even looked in the NAND Development forums? There are tonnes of ROMs, none of them even remotely old, which work perfectly. Take Typhoon CM7 or Hyperdroid, for example.
