installed set cpu and it only lets my clock it to 499mhz and the overclock widget only got me to 663mhz.. how did u guys get it to 998mhz??
.............
Are you downloading the correct version? DOwnload this one and select Nexus One in the device selection menu.
SetCpu is made for all the most current Android phones (mostly), you can even let it automatically detect the clock speed.
Why do you need this? I've seen the phone hit 1GHz when it needed to so I just let its internal processor scaling do its job. Is there something you are doing that isn't kicking the processor up when it needs it?
Setcpu absolutely works with Nexus One, i have it right now with the overclocked kernal running 1113 to 691, you have to hit menu and pick the Nexus One as your phone.
Apologies if the answer to this is already here (for newbies), but I've searched and searched and can't find an answer that makes sense to an amateur like me.
I have an X8, with Gingerdx v010 installed on it. I'd like to overclock it from 600 to around 690 (seems to be a nice stable o/c according to other threads).
My question is, how the hell do i o/c it? I've installed SetCpu but it won't let me go higher than 600. Does gingerdx not already come with an overclock module?
If anyone can help with a step by step instruction i'd be thankful. I don't know what 'push' something to somewhere means by the way - I'm a total newbie. I can root my phone, install a rom, and rescue my phone using SEUS. Everything else is new to me!
Thanks again
Impster.
download root explorer and oc module. copy oc module to your sd card. with root explorer, copy x8oc.ko from your sd card to /system/lib/modules. reboot your phone. set frequency with setcpu. you're done.
Many thanks for that. Didn't realise it was that easy/straightforward.
I'll give it a go tonight.
Thanks again. Much appreciated.
Impster the newbie.
oh i forgot - delete x8uv.ko from /system/lib/modules before rebooting your phone, if you will leave it there it might cause instability
Thanks for that. Just done it and rebooting now...
I'll check Setcpu once it's booted up to see what options i have.
right - rebooted. SetCPU shows that the phone's running at 710Mhz, although the sliders on SetCpu only go up to 600Mhz.
Surely this is not right? The sliders should show up to 710+ ???
Quadrant test also shows no real change at 930ish.
Thanks again in anticipation of your reply.

it should go past 710 (max to 826, but i'm not sure)
try to unninstal setcpu and install it again and reboot your phone, maybe it will help
Tried that. SetCPU slider still only goes up to 600.
But - installed CPUMaster and the slider on that goes up to 710.
Get v004 of the OC module and put it in system/lib/modules like fifo said. Go to hw_config and make sure this line is there
insmod /system/lib/modules/x8oc.ko # x8 overclocking
reboot and check SetCPU. Sliders should go up to 826 (I think)
Thanks for that. Sliders now go up to 825 as stated.
Thanks for all who helped.
I now have a rooted, Gingerdx, overclocked rom.
By the way, do I need to remove the x8uv module - some say they are running with both oc and uv modules?
Will the 2 together be in conflict at all?
Thanks
Im not sure. I dont overclock anymore cos games run perfectly smoothly and I have no lags scrolling/opening apps/switching between apps etc.
When I used to overclock, I had both uv and oc modules in lib/modules. Didnt have instability of any sort. Dont OC too high. 691-710 is good.
If you want to experiment, just rename your UV module (put .bak at the end or something) and see if there is a difference in performance

remove it, oc module already contains uv
I set the CPU to 748 mhz and i dont see a real difference, why?
Been playing about with settings - mine seems to run good at 710. Tried one step up and was ok, but occasionally rebooted itself.
Will stick with 710mhz for now as i've had one run on quadrant that got past the magic 1000!

There isnt that big a difference. If your rom is already smooth you dont need to OC. I find my phone faster without it. Also keep in mind that overclocking has negative effects over time. Try deleting the OC module (or renaming), reboot and see if you feel your phone is smoother. OC module has undervolt for voltages below 614.
Hi guys, I'm a newbie :victory: and I do have some questions.
First of all, is it possible to change GPU frequency according to the load? Or is it locked with CPU frequency?
Second, I want to change my vdd_list. What step voltage should I use?
Also right now I tweak my governer by using echo values in init.d. Instead of using init.d scripts, can I just flash a zip to integrate the changes in the kernel? If so, how can I do that?
Thanks all.
Theoretically it's possible to change GPU freq, but the possible changes are very limited.
If your governor reads some sort of config file on load - you can modify that config file. Otherwise to make changes to kernel defaults you need to recompile it.

Could you show me how? I would like to change my GPU freq in order to test out during the normal use, my phone's performance is more depending on GPU or CPU.
Thanks.
You can search all you want and still come up short, I'm trying to use system tuner to change the cpu and gpu settings and I cant find any help on how to use this app. Im running the latest Kaos Droid rom for 4.1.2, the latest Motley kernel and twrp, props to all developers:good:. Im looking for what the optimal settings are and how to use system tuner to change them. Can someone tell me or show me the right thread that can help? Im not sure what the min/max cpu settings should be and I cant seem to find where to change the gpu settings. We are all noobs at some point. I just want to beef my nexus up a little, nothing crazy.
aww for real?
I wouldn't use system tuner for this because it doesn't have the ability to change the GPU speed. I'd recommend TricksterMOD which is available here for free. Depending on your kernel (not sure if motley's kernel has configurable GPU now, it didn't when I used it) you can change different settings. It is personally up to you how you want to configure your device and change things depending on how it runs. Anyway, I'll give you an idea of my settings that I have changed.
CPU - Governor is Interactive (my kernels default but another alternative would be ondemand) running @ 102mhz min - 1600mhz max
IO - Governor is deadline (again default but imo the only one you should use) with cache at 1024.
GPU - 600mhz
VOLTAGES - My kernels defaults.
Make sure that you set the settings to be applied at boot (I use a delay of 1 because it didn't seem to apply without it) and also make sure your kernel has the powerHAL fix included, or else (in the case of trinity kernel) you will need to download this file (this is for Android 4.2.x). This will allow your CPU overclock to stick and not be reset to stock.
Hopefully this helps! But again, just play around with your frequency's and maybe look into voltage tweaking to get your personal balance between performance and power consumption. And if you are going for performance, I'd look at turning off fsync and using the ext4 mount script to boost your I/O dramatically (this will result in things such as faster app installs)
smt8544 thanks alot man! now I can start somewhere, I didnt wanna do anything stupid without some knowledge, I appreciate it!
Hey Guys,
i have a question
Well how you mod your kernel e.g Render Kernel for more battery ?
Cause i can flast the render Kernel but didn't have a clue what i need to change in the Kernel settings with programms like synapse and so...
Also i didn't find a tutorial for moding the settings of a kernel
It would be nice if some one would provide me the basics of that cause as i say above i'm a noob in moding a kernel due to the fact that i didn't ever done it.
Thanks
If you dont know anything about setting parameter in Synapse then i suggest you just set up max speed of cpu not lower then 1.7Ghz and min speed above 192Mhz. For more battery saving go to undervolt tab and put -25mv for overall step. NEVER OVERVOLT it unless you know what youre doing.
