Hi,
i'm trying to make a rom backup with cwm recovery.
but it failed, because cwm try to backup the rom on the sd (that i haven't) and if I choose to backup to internal memory, the task remains on 'backuping boot image....' and does not continue.
How can i proceed?
flash TWRP, CWM is causing many problems (did also for me, I ended up with a corrupt flash in CWM and since I flashed TWRP I had no such problems at all!)
thanks...
can you link me this recovery? i have 4.1.1
Go here,2nd post....

Hi fellow Android lovers
I'm still not sure how to make a proper backup of my completely stock A500 (HC 3.0.1).
My plan is:
1. Root with Gingerbreak
2. Install Acer Recovery Installer App
3. Backup my Recovery with the app
4. Install CWM with the app
5. Make a Backup with CWM
Is this a good/correct way to make a backup ?
What would be the best way ?
Thanks a lot for any useful input

Yes. This is EXACTLY what you should do but with a step 6 added.
Make a copy of your shiney new backups to seperate storage, such as your PC.
Cool ...
Thanks for answering.
Of cause I will safely store that backup on my PC.

Backup Help
I have rooted the device and installed the Acer Recovery app. Where's the backup function ? I can do the restore but how do I backup the device and cw install?
thanks,
you have to reboot into clockwork mod . Recovery .. then in there you can choose backup/recovery
Another thing to try and remember, if/when Acer Recovery updates with a new version of CWM - when you are putting this version on your device and updating recover, don't backup - it will overwrite your "stock" recovery backup with the previous CWM backup (which is likely not really needed with the new version of CWM) - leaving your only way back the final Acer Recovery option of "use stock <whatever version is included with that version of Acer recovery but may not match your recovery version>"
Learned that the hard way

I can, however, confirm that the stock recovery they have still works in all versions of 3.1. Just ran into that with the 4.010.13 update.

Do you have a working SD card inserted?
Yes, I have sdcard 16 gig from acer stock and external_sd memory card 8 gig, both of them work fine. I did remove external_sd card and repeat all steps it don't work...
Thanks

To be clear, it has to be a working external micro SD formatted to fat32
Hi,
The code said can't mount /sdcard I think it is the 16 gig acer stock, it isn't extenal _sd card. My external_sd format FAT 32 it have music and film and
the tab read these files fine. Any idea ???

I just used the acer recovery from the market and do my backup, don't know what you mean by premium as the regular works fine for backup.
New a500
rooted with gingerb
installed acer recovery with cwm
did a full backup with cwm
backed up everything else with Titanium backup to ex micro sd
just to make sure i copied int sd and ex sd card to hard drive.
Now for 3.1
Remove root with ginger
Then boot using cwm recovery
and recover stock..?
and when I recover to stock is cwm still there..?
Little fuzzy on the above
I don't want to try to figure this all out when the 3.1 is ready.
Any good links or comments. Thanks to everone in the know, im not.
I encrypted my tf101 and it works great...
I didnt it because I am testing apps for work and I deal with sensitive info..
now I want to remove it and before you say reflash it that doesnt work..
I can reflash and the encryption stays which is nice to know...
Says in the encryption menu the only way to undo it is to factory reset.
Anyone figure out how to do this with a custom recovery installed? I tried from the settings menu but it failed due to cwm installed. In cwm I am unable to mount and format /data.
Do we need to install the stock recovery? I'd hate to have to do that just to remove the encryption.
TIA
If you go to the HD Revolution thread in development you can download 'full wipe' with formats the encrypted partition. You should then be able to install a stock rom from recovery. Please be careful and have search as there are other threads on this with more detailed info than I have.
This method did work for me.

If you're going to use Super wipe script. Make sure you have a recovery that read from the micro sd card or ADB is working. If not you'll find a wiped tf with nothing to flash.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522494 chronicles my experiences & eventual solution.
NVflash (to stock in my case)
Most of the roots were unavailable or not working
NVflash rogue recovery
CWM install new ROM
Of course that doesn't work if you have a SBK2 (B80 or higher) system.

Thanks for the replies. I need to update my recovery anyways. I'm still on an old cwm. Any recommendations for one that supports the full wipe script?
EDIT: Just thought about this...should I remove the sd card so that I preserve my flashable .zip rom since this is where they are located?

Team Rouge will read from internal and external micro sd card.
That's my recovery of choice.
Which Custom Recovery are you using? and why?
can't delete old backups

I just realized that CWM has a problem on Nexus 7. Can't delete old backups!! You can't delete files in the CWM backup folder thru file explorer, terminal with SU or ADB. For that, and so many other performance reasons, I dropped CWM faster than drunk girl in stilettos. TWRP is what I use on my Galaxy S2 and I just love it. You can queue up several zips for install in order, like: 1) TDJ cache wipe, 2) install ROM, 3) install Gapps, 4) TDJ cache wipe again. then, come back 2 minutes later, and you're ready to reboot. ALso, TWRP has a file manager in recovery, so you can actually delete those annoying backup folders that CWM won't even let you delete. TWRP FTW.
I also notice that TWRP has the nice backup options for "System/Boot/Data" backup only. So I can clean backup my rom without all those apps(which is HUGE)
guess I'll need to put back TWRP in my Nexus 7 again.
TWRP. I tried the latest CWM but even the touch version is not that good for me. Also the De duplication backup of CWM is just not quite right in my opinion. In my experience, leaving thousand files in the sd card is causing performance problems compared to just few large files.

If I flash Clockworkmod Recovery in Rom Manager and then Reboot into Recovery from Rom Manager, I go right to cwm recovery. I have tested making and deleting nandroid backups there and it works just fine. My backups consist of a folder containing 5 files including an md5 checksum so I don't know what people are talking about with 'thousands of files'. I think the people criticizing CWM don't know how to use it. I just make sure I flash Clockworkmod Recovery in Rom Manager before I Reboot into Recovery. Works every time. I don't use the Touch version, just plain old Rom Manager v5.0.2.1 and CWM 6.0.1.0.
I had installed CWM first, but now I changed to TWRP and I like it much more. With an USB-stick connected you have the possibility to backup / restore ROMs from there directly, which makes much more sense than backing up to internal memory. Also the other options provided for install / backup / restore are well done. Really nice work!

TWRP
Big icon easy to use.
CWM, in all honesty, I unlocked and rooted and have never gone back into recovery. Because this is the first device I've ever owned where I didn't feel the need to flash a ROM yet! ( key word,YET) I use my Galaxy S 2 for my flashing addiction.

I rooted my friends Sprint S4 and wanted to flash CWM touch.
I flashed CWM touch 6.0.4.4 and tries to run a backup of his stock ROM before I flashed something else onto it... but it says an error occurred when backing up system. I'm truing to backup to external SD card.
Anyone recommend a different version of CWM touch recovery that doesn't give this issue?
