Of course, the simple solution is to remove the SIM and put it in a phone, but is there anywhere in the Nexus 7 3G settings which displays the phone number of the inserted SIM card?
I've had a look in Settings, under "Wireless and Networks", "Users" and "About tablet". I suppose, as it's not a phone, it was deemed unnecessary to display the SIMs number (or simply that nobody thought of adding that function to the 3G, but it would have been more convenient when topping up the card with credit.

Oops! Title went AWOL when I previewed the post - missed that!.
You should be able to find the number by going to Settings> About tablet> Status, then it's listed under MDN
On AT&T myself: Not showing in my settings...
Easiest way, if AT&T, is go back to www.att.com/buyasession (you went there when you set up your device), log back in and click on your device. Your "Subscriber Number" shows there.

Aha! It wasn't a very intuitive way to find it. Thank you!:good: I assume that it Mobile Device Number? (I've got Wikipedia to thank for that guess )

Hey, my friend just got her first Android phone, the Vibrant on T-Mobile. We discovered when I was showing her some things that her voice input is censored. Has anyone else experienced this? On my Droid I can drop F-bombs and not get censored but on hers the voice input yields #### proportional to the letters in the words. Any chance this is part of Samsung's S-life UI modification or is this limited to T-mobile? My phone is an unfair comparison because it runs unbranded Android, but I am on Verizon. See my sig for more details.
I think if I remember right.... it was Google that did that. Weird you can do it on your Droid though.

yes, most android phones censor the voice. However you can turn off censorship in the voice search options.
It's a Android thing not a T-mobile thing and as they said it's possible to turn it off
It's not there for the reason your thinking, it's not to get you to stop saying cuss words, but can you imagine the trouble they would get in the first time the system miss understood someone searching for "Where to buy a duck"
I just did ############# and it worked, you just need to change the settings from the search screen

However this feature is only in 2.2, in 2.1 there is no option for this or under Settings>Search. So until we get 2.2 (via official update, CM6 or another) we will have to wait to be able to do this as by default, there does not seem to be a way.

Turn off safe search, where? In an options menu on the phone?
I have safe search set to 'off' on my Google account, and it still censors words.

You can push any prl you want to the phone. Since we have diagnostic access thru *#*#8778#*#* then hit "modem" on the bottom selection. This will allow qpst to recognize it. If on windows 7, go to device drivers and look under "modems" to find your phone. Open properties and look for COM. It will have a number. Then open qpst. Hit "Add Port" and input what COM you saw. Prl will be under "service programming". Hit "write to phone", and finally browse to that .prl file.

WITH BOTH QPST AND CDMA WORKSHOP, I AM ABLE TO READ THE PHONES SETTINGS BUT I CANT WRITE TO IT. woops, sorry bout the caps.
anyway, when i click write, some things write and others dont. then when i click read, the banner is recognized as google even though it reads sprint on my phone still. often time when i click write in cdma workshop, it tells me phone is requesting spc, spc is required.
update: it seems that the sci and access overload class have stuck to the values that i chose. however, the main goal for me is to alter the banner to read 'Google'.
any input is much appreciated. thank you!

extract this and put the eri.xml directly in /data and give it full permissions. If using rootexplorer, check all boxes under permissions. Reboot. Should say "Google" now. lemme know how it goes.

I forgot it in the original post. If you get a minute, could you take a look at it and tell me if it sounds reasonable to you? I have never used QPST. I dl'ed it tonight and looked around a bit. I am pretty much a beginner. Rooted the Droid X. Bought the original droid after the locked bootloader experience. And now the NS4G because the freedom. I was able to unlock and root it -but my 3g speeds are terrible and I was hoping to find a way to increase them. Anyways - you have been very helpful and any more pointers would be great.
thanks
Ok so I got this figured out. Well - I didn't get it figured out. I read some other stuff by people that got it figured out. Here are links to the information...
Warning I was unhappy with the results and when I tried to update my prl from settings (supposedly the solution if you wanted to revert) --it said my prl was successfully updated but the prl version # did not change.
so be careful if you want to do this.
I did this with my Nexus and I did a prl update on the phone, rebooted and the prl didn't change under the "about phone" settings but when I dialed *2 I was back on Sprint's network again. You just need to flash it back manually if you want the numbers to change.
This is a really easy tutorial to help if anybody needs it.
I got the information from different places and used words from
people in this thread, I just refined it a whole lot more...
**The "**" represent tips.**
**I Have attached all the files needed for this tutorial except for the phone drivers
and such. A few prls and notes are avalible to download from this post and all have
been organized in folders and tested by me and all of them work, some better than
others**
**BE CAREFULL, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU SCREW UP BUT IT WORKED FOR ME**
Follow the steps to force roam on Verizon, Using "QPST_2.7_build 323":
(1) ~Dial (*#*#8778#*#*) then change "PDA" to "MODEM" on the bottom selection.~
**This will allow the QPST program to recognize it.**
(2) ~Plug your phone into your computer.~
**Allow a minute or two for your computer to install any drivers for your phone.**
(3) ~Go to the "Device Manager"~
**You can use the Windows Start Menu Search and type "Device Manager", and click on it.**
(4) ~Look under "Ports (COM & LPT)" find "SAMSUNG Mobile Modem Diagnostic
Serial Port (WDM) (COM##) ... The "COM##" write it down, or remember it"~
**If you can't see it in the name, then right click and open "Properties"
and it will say under the "General" tab."**
(5) ~Then open the program "QPST Configuration"~
**It's under the "All Programs" list in the Windows Start Menu, inside the QPST folder.**
(6) ~Click "Add Port" and input the "COM##" you saw and close the window.~
(7) ~Open up "QPST Service Programming"~
**Also under the "All Programs" list in the Windows Start Menu, inside the QPST folder.**
(8) ~Click into the "Roam" tab.
(9) ~Click on "Browse" to get to the "#####.prl" file you downloaded then Click "Open"~
(10) ~click "Write to Phone."~
(11) ~Enter the service code (168132) and click "Ok."~
**At this Point your phone will reboot and you have your new prl.**
(12) ~Dial (*2) press send and listen to who's network your connected to.
(13) ~Dial (*#*#8778#*#*) then change "MODEM" back to "PDA" on the bottom selection.~
(14) ~If you want to go back just download the newest Sprint prl from:
https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=eabe29f3770d8d15&id=EABE29F3770D8D15!678
OR,
**You can do a prl update in the phone settings and reboot(Not 100% sure if that works)**
**I have also attached the newest Sprint prl at this time(6/21/2011) feel free to use it**
The stuff below is just for informational purposes.
(BIG WARNING!!!, the Manufacturer reset will erease EVERYTHING!)
**If you want to go back to your old prl DO NOT!! use this method**
{-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------}
To do a manufacturer reset, Dial: (*#*#786#*#*)
To set your preferred network type, Dial: (*#*#4636#*#*)
MSL/Service code: (168132)

He's not ungrateful, just frustrated like me and many others. Yes we are rooted, yes we have ADB installed (we unlocked our phones) we just can't get our phones to show up as a modem, no matter what we do.
I'm running windows XP, many are running win7. I have yet to try my win7 PC as a test
I originally used the PDA.net drivers to get ADB to work. I wonder if that is part of the problem?

I haven't done a prl hack before, but my prl or profile will not update, everytime time I will update it, it always fails and when prl update fails its a big issue. I dont feel like going to sprint and getting another phone...well.. atleast not yet. so I'm gonna try this method and see if it works. So I was wondering, which prl do you guys use? I've heard some xda members say that when they hacked a prl it didn't give them any service. What specific prl is best?
Sorry for not using paragraphs ..
My data sucks real bad, I'm on 01115. Any suggestions would be good.
Thanks xda members.

Hi everyone,
I've got an ATT I337 running the awesome Hyperdrive ROM version 17.1. Several of us --but clearly not all of us!-- over in that thread have noticed a problem with incoming calls. I think there's a setting somewhere that can fix it, so I'm opening it to a wider audience by posting it here, in hopes someone from this group will know what to tweak.
Here's the specific problem.
If my cell phone receives a call from a known contact "Bob" and Bob's contact info (being a U.S. phone number) is 317-555-1212, so far the phone seems to recognize the call as coming from Bob. However, it reports it as coming from +317-555-1212. When I go into the call log and try to return the call, it dials +317-555-1212, and the extra + causes the system to interpret it as an international call attempt, and the call fails. Cannot be completed as dialed, the message says. If it's an non-contact number, the + is still added. IT's not JUST for contacts.
Let's say Bob leaves a message. The voicemail indicator shows and it says offers to dial *86, the correct access code for voice mail for ATT as I understand it. However, tapping that actually dialed +11 then my ten digit phone number. Call fails.
At the dialpad, pressing and holding 1 to invoke voicemail has the same problem.
In Contacts, contacts are NOT listed with +s, and clicking the call button for them makes them dial OK without a + being prepended.
So, this looks like some international feature is being enabled that I'm not sure how to turn off. Does anyone have any idea how to turn this off? Sorta puts a crimp in the basic phone functionality. Seriously, who actually calls anyone these days? But it would be good to fix.
Please, if anyone has an idea of what might be at the root of this, I would appreciate your help!
Marc
I am confused. Does this only happen on the Hyper rom or all roms for you.
Not sure how anyone else does their contacts. But, I always enter numbers as 1-555-555-5555 even if local.
My voicemail number is set as +15555555555
I never had issues--
I remember some talk of that on Hyper awhile back. But, never paid attention--
Only happens on Hyperdrive. Or at least, I can say I never saw it on stock. Hyper is the only ROM I've actually gotten so far as to run while SIM card is inserted. :good:
My contacts are almost all US based and are just ten digits, no leading 1. I did try editing the contact to my work cell phone by adding a 1 to it, and calling my S4 phone. It still was registered as +317-555-1212 format and return call didn't work.
So, it's not really about the way the contacts are stored, more about how the phone interprets incoming calls.
Try the 1+ and see what happens. Just do a few of your most used numbers to start--
Can you put a different dialer on phone and see

Just edited above, adding 1 to the way contacts are stored doesn't change the behavior. I can certainly try a different dialer and see what happens, but it seems to be based on how incoming calls are interpreted. I'm guessing there's a build.prop item or somesuch that needs a-tweaking.
Marc
so you changed the contact number to 1-555-555-5555 with hyphens
i ran hyper for quite a bit awhile back never any issues. of course could be something new--
i am not thinking rom or a lot more would have issue--
I did some tests.
On the phone in question, I edited the google contact for a test phone number. I then called the phone from that tested phone number.
It didn't matter whether the contact was saved in the formats:
317-555-1212
1-317-555-1212
+1-317-555-1212
+317-555-1212
In all cases, the incoming call was recognized as +317-555-1212, which isn't a valid call-back number, and return calls failed. Since this only happened when I put a custom ROM on, I'm sure it's something buried inside the ROM. However, I'm at a loss as to where to check various settings.
Gotta be something deep in there...
If all else fails you can Odin back to stock, reformat your internal card and reroot.
Under Phone Settings/Additional Settings/My Phone Number--is it in format 15555555555
Also, and I don't know where to check, your country code may not be set. I don't know if we even have that setting anymore or would it be in Build Prop.
Probably under ro.something

Interesting thought. I had gone into the dialer settings, and checked the Current Country... it listed United States of America. Then I stopped. But looking further it turns out that in the Assisted Dialing settings just below that, there might be stuff that matters. Currently my assisted dialing is OFF. The settings inside are:
Country code: 1
IDD prefix: 011
NDD prefix 1
City/area code: 131
National number length: 11
The area code probably doesn't matter, but I'm interested in the national number length. Ours tend to be 10. Could you please see what your settings are in there, and let me know if anything is different?
I can always backup (ug, safestrap backup), return to stock, poke around, re-root/restore. But if you could take a quick peek I'd be grateful.
Thank you!
Marc
I tried an alternative dialer... it acted just like the stock with the + thing.
I am on a rom that doesn't have those settings--sorry
Thanks anyway! I experimented changing the last setting to 10, and enabling assisted dialing, and it didn't change anything. Sigh.
Ok, you can still go back to stock with Odin. Or, try one of iB's roms they are very good too, I use them almost exclusively now--
Good Luck--:good:
Yeah. I've been back to stock a couple times with Odin. I've got the process down pat! I prefer the hyperdrive rom if I can work through the few small warts. It's just such an elegantly crafted piece of work. Worth the effort, if I eventually sort out the call issue. Appreciate your help.

Please advice if you want the screenshot re-attached to the post in which case I'd immediately do.

No I mean the phone number it says I have at the top. My actual phone number is not what it shows but I still get everything just fine.

I haven't see that.
I know on the converted T-Mobile variant that the software will show the same IMEID for both SIM1/SIM2 but in actuality they are different.
That's what I thought you were talking about.
