1700 and 2100 wcdma on N7100 intational - Galaxy Note II General

So I was playing around with my unlocked note nd I found a selection of bands nd I can select them but not sure yet if it does unable 1700 nd 2100 bands to work on wind mobile or tmobile any ideas ive the pictures

What code did you enter to find those options?

Note 1 had the same menu options.
It doesn't mean anything without actual support in the phone.
I assume, like the Note 1, if you turn those on your phone is going to reject your sim card.

Hi just peeked into this and was able to select 1700 band, go to comi bands and select 1700 wcdma and any other missing band and it will be selected. If it makes any difference i dont know since im in a good refarm area for tmobile.

By the sound of it our hardware just don't have the bands but yet we can select them kinda strange but if you could try using tmobile sim let use know what happens

I was able to do this also, with the leaked XXDLJ2 FW (4.1.2) - I tried with earlier FW before and couldn';t get into the menu - could be total noob error though...
Remove SIM card first.
Then power up Phone, dial #*197328640*
Select: DEBUG/PHONE CONTROL/NETWORK CONTROL/SELECT WCDMA BANDS
from there, it seems you can select ALL, or add the bands you want. (I'm on TMO USA so I selected 1700/1900/2100)
Now, what I don't know is...once you re-insert the SIM ( and you have to power cycle to do that) does the TMO SIM override the changes I just made? I have very weak 4G near my house so I cannot check if 4G is working or not.
CORRECTION: Forget what I said about removing SIM card !!! I was able to access the menu with the SIM inserted, and it looks like my settings are holding ( there's an asterisk next to the WCDMA bands I chose). This is promising!

I did this on a stock rom and after rebooting settings stay the same. Cant tell if itll make any difference since im at work and dont get good coverage. Will report as soon as i can and im on tmobile california

Sadly, it appears that any other setting than Automatic will disable WCDMA altogether - I sat in my car for 20 minutes right under a cell tower tryin to make it work, but was stuck on Edge...as soon as I selected AUTO, my phone jumped to H+ ...and it was on the 1900 Band since the 1700 band is automatically unchecked when switching to Auto. Oh well...gotta wait for the damn TMo refarm then.

The TMUS reframe is killin' me. Neither my house or work are in a reframed area. However, there are several points on my commute that are reframed, and I did have a chance to eat dinner in one. Holy moly is HSPA+ fast! EDGE is virtually useless with these devices.

you can select mulit bands that way you dont have to use auto as it does turn em off ,i used the last selection it lets you select what you want

Sorry to check in late but with these changes I notice that my signal sticks to 2g and barely wants to switch to H or H+. Maybe when Im off work Im gonna try to select all wcdma band and switch to wcdma only in network mode. when selecting network mode i notice it changes all the settings in the service menu.

that's what I've been doing - COMBI BANDS, and add GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and WCDMA 1700/1900/2100.
But it didn't work for me, phone remains stuck on EDGE -

I dont think this does much only put me in Edge mode or no data at all. Its weird that theres an option for it. So ya no luck here...

T-mobile (USA) 3G

Hello, I am having trouble getting 3G working on my x10i. I have read through these forums and tried every apn settings I could find but still it only uses edge. T-mobile customer service tells me i have great 3g coverage in my area but that since its a non-tmobile phone it will not use 3G. Is this true or can anyone help? Right now im using epc.tmobile.com as my apn, data roaming on, and MMS & data turned on. Need more info just let me know.Thx for any help
check your sony ericsson xperia x10 box on the side, see if it said UMTS is saying "AWS1/AWS4/AWS8" if you are missing AWS4, then you will not be able to use T-mo USA 3G because T-mobile UMTS (3G) bandwidth frequency is 900 (AWS1) / 1700 (AWS4) / 2100 (AWS8)
i had a similar problem when my T-Mobile 3G constantly switched to Edge even when i had good coverage, i found this solution somewhere and it helped me, since then i was never dropped from 3G unless i had no bars... i would give this a try for your problem too.
1) enter in dialer the following: *#*#4636#*#*
2) select phone Information
3) press the menu button (left bottom hard key)
4) Select Radio Band
5) Select USA Band
6) Reboot Phone
This will narrow down your phone to USA 3G only, (if leaving the country you should switch back to automatic to get international 3G coverage), i found this also helpful for 3G speed and battery performance.

I doubt cause tmobile told you that your coverage is okay, it might be that you have an old sim card with no support for 3G, or Would say your phone is defective…

try go to setting --->wireless controls --->Mobile Networks ----> Network mode
and select WCDMA only
see if it go back to 3G signal. For my area sometimes i stay on edge due to signal blocked by building walls....
by the way, will you get 3G signal when you are outside of your house or in a wide open area?
When i choose WCDMA i lose my cell signal completely. I have tmobile service but In my area it is always using centennial wireless towers for my signal, centennial was bought out by AT&T which have not yet switched their new towers to 3G yet. Could this be the problem? Thx

Sounds like you found the issue. If WCDMA only shows no signal at all, it means you do not have T-Mobile 3G in your area (I suspect the 1700 spectrum).
It looks like there is a roaming agreement in which T-mobile can "borrow" the AT&T tower. So, all you get is the GSM signal. Don't bother to wait for AT&T to get the tower to 3G...because, you know, it won't be the same 3G signal as T-mobile. AT&T operates 3G on 850 and 1900.
If that is the issue, maybe you have to switch to a X10a.
When i choose US band it says its unsuccessful? any ideas why???

3G only???

Does anyone know how to enable 3G only on Vibrant????
I can see the option for 2G only, not for 3G... BTW my phone is rooted...
why would you want 3G only? when "2G only" is disabled... 3G is on but if there isn't 3G signal then it goes to alternative EDGE (2G) temporarily until 3G signal is available
"3G Only" isn't a feature.. and its pointless to have it as well

it will be pointless for T-Mobiles users. But it will makes sense for Wind Mobiles users (Canada) cause Wind only has 3G connection and doesn't have any 2G connection.
Ya, so now you know it's not pointless. So what's the solution?

I'm pretty sure by default with the 2G unchecked that it's on 3G mode.
It's not a feature, it's just what it is...it's always on 3G accessibility.

Towards the bottom there is an option for "Set preferred network type"
You can change that to only use the networks you want.

Hope that helps
I found that menu didn't work for me. I used that menu on my G1 and it worked great, but it seems to have no effect on the Vibrant.

That's the proper way to force 3g mode, and I do it on my phone it works great.
Also, another reason to force 3g only is if you live in a weak 3g area. I don't want to ride the edge network 60% of the time if I can force 3g and get it 100% of the time.
Hey none of the methods I read here work.
So after playing around with my phone a little bit, I discovered a way to actually lock 3g.
Again I'm not a phone expert, and I discovered this on my own, so use with caution, I don't want to be blaimed for a broken phone.
here is how I did, copy and pasted from another forum I posted these instructions in:
Tired of edge speeds, want to lock in 3g? Okay this next one, do at your own risk ask usual, use with caution. I kinda figured this one out on my own, through trial and error, so I’m not sure how stable or accurate, or even how safe it is to do this. I did notice though, if you screw up, you can use the factory reset code above and things should go back to factory defaults.
Okay…so again do at your own risk. Also by locking into 3g speeds, if you ever go into a non 3g area, or if your 3g signal is poor in your area, then your phone calls will drop and data will stop, unless you go back and set the phone to its default automatic gsm/cdma settings.
Dial: *#*#197328640#*#*
Click [1] debug screen
Click [8] phone control
Click [7] network control
Click [2] band selection
This is where you make a change, default setting is [1] automatic, which means it chooses automatically between gsm/cdma (Edge vs 3g). So we are going to change this and set it to wcdma band which is 3g.
Click [2] wcdma band
Click [1] wcdma all []
Now it should display “select wcdma all bands [*]"
Now on the bottom of your phone, click the menu key, it’s the one next to the home key, now click back, menu again one more time, back one more time, this is just to confirm it set to number 2 wcdma band.
Now click menu key one last time, click end.. and you are done. Now to double verify that the phone is locked into 3g, dial in: *#*#4636#*#*
Then click phone information Then scroll down to “set preferred network type” It should now have listed “wcdma only.” PS, if you tried to do a shortcut, and just set wcdma this way first without doing the lock above, it would just go back to gsm/cdma auto once you exit the screen.
Your phone should now be locked into 3g.
Just to confirm, i upgraded my firmware to XWJM5 today, and i noticed that in settings > wireless and network > mobile networks, there's a new menu 'network mode' in which there's 3 options - auto / gsm only / wcdma only. Nice touch!
In answer to the cynics, there are times when browsing, when the phone is borderline whether to give you 2g or 3g, it does come in handy, and it's safer too, as if i have to browse on 2g it makes me want to smash the phone up!!

Mobilicity. Radio?

I am using this vibrant that i got from t-mobile. I live in Canada and have recently adapted the mobilicty network. I am noticing at at times the phone is having trouble communicating with their network even though i have full signal.
I am wondering if its something to do wit the radio or the rom.
So anyone know what rom or radio works best with mobilicty?
Hi kiazand. Glad to meet another Vibrant owner on Mobilicity. I have the same problem and believe it gets stuck scanning through the other carrier networks. I have only found a fix when using Froyo though.
1. Enter code *#*#197328640#*#* or if you have SGS Tools go to Secret Codes -> Servicemode, Debug, Netz, Audio, Common
2. [1] Debug Screen
3. [8] Phone Control
4. [7] Network Control
5. [2] Band Selection
6. [2] WCDMA Band
7. [4] WCDMA 1700 (FDD IV) <- this is for 3G service
8. Press the Menu button and click Back
9. [4] Combi Bands
10. [1] GSM 850 <- this is for roaming on Rogers
11. Press the Menu button and click END
12. Exit SGS Tools
Personally I only have WCDMA 1700 configured so my phone does not roam and I do not get charged every time a text comes through. Keep in mind though that 911 will not work if you do this and are outside Mobilicity coverage.
I am not sure if this works with Gingerbread ROMs based on the i9000, but I know it does not work with Cyanogenmod 7.
Hope that helps.

Sorry, but it's been said many times before. There is no 850 support for our device - officially or unofficially. The radio just doesn't support it. Samsung simply never removed the links to it in the servicemode, whether that's because it was there for testing, or pure laziness. If you're accessing the Rogers network, it's accessing it on the 1900 band
Well we do roam on rogers and that is their frequency as well.. Just saying.. I'm on Mobilicity too and love my vibrant.

That's normal for Nexus S that mobilicity sells so there's nothing wrong.
Also, whoever above said they get charged for incoming text while roaming is mistaken. You only get charged for sending.

This is from Mobilicity's website regarding roaming and texts. It would be great not to worry about incoming texts using up My Wallet.
Can I send and receive a text message or MMS message while roaming/outside Mobilicity unlimited coverage area?
In order to send or receive a text message or MMS message while roaming/outside the Mobilicity unlimited coverage area, you need to have money in My Wallet™. Each message you send or receive while roaming in Canada or the United States costs 10 cents, which will be deducted from My Wallet™. If you do not have money in My Wallet™ you will not be able to send or receive a text message or MMS message. You can add more money to My Wallet™ with a credit card or debit card by going online and logging into My Account, or by calling *611 and speaking with Customer Care.

ps you may find someone with a i717 wanting a 7000 and might trade....

Good luck

Normal GSM Functions (Calls/SMS) should work on 100%
There is something wrong with either the phone or your SIM Card/Provider
Call Customer support and explain your problem and be sure to tell them that the problem is Calls/SMS and you are aware that 3G will/may not work!
Maybe they are blocking the international Notes for some reason?!
It never hurts to ask them!
You will NOT get 3G to work if your carrier uses 1700mhz for AWS. Tmobile and as far as I know Wind use 1700 AND 2100 for 3G data. Having just one band (in this case, 2100, will not cut it). In any event, you should still get 2G data and be able to call/text.

Call Customer support and explain your problem and be sure to tell them that the problem is Calls/SMS and you are aware that 3G will/may not work!
Maybe they are blocking the international Notes for some reason?!
It never hurts to ask them!

how can test if this is problem with the phone?
I tried another sim card form rogers wireless and it works right away.
my sim card has "no service" then after 5 mins the icon changes for a stop sign with a live through it to actual bars.. the no service changes into emergency calls only.

OK. Then your phone is OK. Call Mobilicity customer support and explain everything! Tell them that the phone works with Rogers SIM and not with yours!

[Q] LTE Bands supported by UK LG G2 (D802)

Does UK LG G2 (D802) support LTE Band 20 (800 MHz) used by O2 UK?
Does anyone know this?
Use info command

1) Go to Phone, just enter following command,
*#*#4636#*#* (no need to press Green Dial Button after this).
2) Once you enter last *, Testing menu will appear. From that menu, select "Phone Information"
3) Scoll down little and you will see "Set Preferred network type". There is dropdown at this location which shows all the networks.
Just note,This is testing menu. It will show all the options like CDMA/WCDMA, GSM, LTE etc. It does not mean that all the networks are supported.
Just insert LTE sim and change option of preferred network from above list to LTE only and check if that works.
Officially it supports 850, 900 bands. But I am wondering if the bands are only controlled software side seeing that the antennas and hardware seem to be streamlined across all versions.
On the box it says:
LG-D802
LTE 2100/1800/2600/900/800
6GB
BLACK BLACK
Thank you for the test menu you solved my problem I just bought the d802 would not work on my 4g sim in uk changed to lte and all good thanks.
Sorry to bring this one back form the dead but the original question doesn't appear to be answered to me...?
I am on Three in the UK and they are rolling out 4G on 800Mhz and 1800Mhz. Complete noob here, but from what I have read 800Mhz has greater range and building penetration (at the expense of some speed), which is great. Except that the G2 doesn't actually support 800Mhz LTE, or does it?

I'm on Tesco mobile (O2) and have the 32GB D802, and my 4G wasn't working in central Manchester (could only get HSDPA) Just followed your instructions and boom, 4G instantly with full signal inside 16mbps on speed test

same here with tesco, set the above and worked fine, but after restart just defaults back to gsm/wcdma auto as preferred and need to go through the steps again to achieve 4g. Anyway to save this as preferred?

+1 Same here. would like to know as well. Kinda dumb that LG doesn't have LTE as a choice on an LTE supported device...

I found and downloaded the free app 4G LTE Switch from the play store to help with this.
While it doesn't solve the problem of having to manually select LTE after each reboot, it saves you from having to dial the code yourself. Instead, just launch the app and it takes you right to those settings. I find it very useful and time saving! :good:

cheers for the heads up, i'll give it a bash, still find it very strange that a 4G phone doesn't come with an easier way to actually activate 4G.

No problem man. I didn't give up searching and actually followed this thread, where it says "No 4G/LTE?" and tried putting my networks actualy LTE band (17) in there instead of 11 and 13. While it now gived the option of selectiong LTE in the dropdown menu of preferred networks, for some stupid reason, the phone STILL doesn't save the setting and you still have to go back to the menu again after a restart to enable LTE.
While it is even easier than the method I said earlier, still frustrating that even after selecting it in the menu, that it still defaults back to GCM/CDMA!
There just HAS to be a way to make this stick. Any devs out there who could look into this further???

Hello,
I am from Portugal, so your mobile could say something rather different. But in essence is all the same.
My version is the D802, International model, just like yours.
1.st step - Provider:
The provider part is always the first to be deal with.
Make sure you go to your operator and ask to enable your SIM-card to have access to LTE.
2.nd step - Equipment:
Go to Definitions -> "Network" tab -> "Sharing connecting & Network" on the bottom -> "Mobile Network" third from last ->
a) Make sure that "Enable Data" is checked;
b) Go to "Network Mode" and choose the option: "GSM (2G) / WCDMA (3G) / LTE (4G) auto".
This way you will always have automatic access to the best network available.
All the people who choose the 4G/LTE only option should check this mode, so you can access 3G when 4G is not available, instead of having no connecting.
Any doubt you have, just ask!
Best regards.

Step 2 in bold, that's not an option. 3 options are
1. GSM / WCDMA auto
2. WCDMA only
3. GSM only
However when using the 4G switcher app you can change it to GSM (2G) / WCDMA (3G) / LTE (4G) auto and it works fine, but on reboot just defaults back to GSM / WCDMA auto.
Our D802 supports 1800 Mhz and 2600 Mhz frequencies for sure.
But to get the LTE toggle to show up in the network selection menu, we need to insert a LTE capable sim or usim. Tried and tested and not a here say.
If you do not get LTE option in network selection then your sim is not LTE capable. Simple.

Well the sim I have is LTE capable, When I change the options with the 4G switcher app I instantly get the 4G signal and can get speeds of near 50mbps.

The option in my phone is:
"GSM (2G) / WCDMA (3G) / LTE (4G) auto"
All this information at one option.
So the phone can choose the highest band level.
This is a problem with your ROM or a problem with your SIM.
And, as I said in my first post, go always first to your provider and ask him form help.
Making sure the SIM part is enabled and fully accessible.
The bands are not important here.
That is because, if you bought your smartphone in the UK, LG made available the D802 model to make your smartphone antenna frequencies correspond to those available at your country.
This will matter if you want to achieve maximum speed of 150Mbps.
But if you want just the regular user experience, you sure have access to LTE network.
In wikipedia (I could not find a good source, as GSMArena make no reference on the version D802)
Wikipedia -> LG G2 -> Specifications
D802 supports 4G/LTE bands:
800, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600
And here you can see the bands of your provider/network:
Wikipedia -> List of LTE networks -> Europe
EE: 1800, 2600
Hutchison 3: 800, 1800
O2: 800
UK Broadband: 3500, 3600
Vodafone: 800
This is wikipedia information, so take this with a pinch of salt, and search for a better source.

Its a UK sim free handset, and i'm on tesco (which is O2).
Sim card is fine as tested in another 4G phone and defaults to 4G as it should after collecting the APN settings from the network. Checked the APN and both the exact same compared to the one the LG G2 is using.
I'm using stock rom and this happened initially on JB, then updated to KK, factory reset, and still the same, then updated last week, still the same.
From reading this thread looks like i'm not the only one.

Wikipedia, and other websites, say O2 only acquired 800MHz band for LTE.
And LG G2 D802 only supports:
850 (band 5), 900 (band 8), 1800 (band 3), 2100 (band 1), 2600 (band 7) MHz.
I saw this at PhoneArena, GSMArena and ATGSM.
This brings a problem for people which their carrier only emits LTE at 800MHz, when not supported by come smartphones.
But I recommend you all to ask LG about the frequencies supported by the LG G2 D802 version, and ask your network carrer/ provider for LTE frequencies.
That way you will be absolutely sure about its compatibility or not.

wikipedia is saying....LTE band support 800/900/1800/2100/2600, however tesco (o2) are definitely on 800mhz, so must be something to do with LG so it will no doubt be them who has to answer the question, and never do anything about it.
