[TIP][GUIDE] Getting CUSTOM bootanimation support - guide (simple steps) :) - Galaxy Note II General

EDIT- If you got custom recovery you can have a look here:
All-in-one custom bootanimation installer + support [Aroma]
Otherwise proceed on this thread:
Root needed!
You should know how to work with root explorer or alike, otherwise don't try this (for the manual method)
Have a fresh nandroid backup in case you do something wrong

How to get a custom bootanimation to work when your rom/kernel does not support it (yet)?
MANUAL METHOD ( for devices without CWM6 recovery)
Just follow these simple steps to the letter:
1. Place the bootanimation.zip file of your choice in /system /media
2. Still in /system /media , backup and then delete bootsamsungloop.qmg and bootsamsung.qmg files
EDIT: Deleting these qmg files is OPTIONAL ( I always delete stuff I am not using, to create more space in /system , but that's up to the user )
3. Then go to /system /bin , backup and then delete samsungani (This one you have to delete no optional, not optional cause....see step 4 )
4. Still in system /bin rename the file bootanimation to samsungani ( yes there is also in /system /bin a file called bootanimation but without .zip)
CWM6 method:
Flash attached zip file from recovery or get it from HERE
And that's it ! Reboot and enjoy.

To remove power off animation/sound:
Go to /system /media /video /shutdown and remove or rename shutdown.qmg
.

EDIT- Extra info: Adjusting permissions for the the bootanimation.zip as rw-r--r--, seems to be helping those few users having problems to get the animation working:

Well this thread is not about on how to edit/create bootanimatios, it's just about how to get them working on not supported roms/kernels , but let's go again:
"800" is the width of the animation
"1280" is the height of the animation
’24′ is the desired fps of the animation (Usually I use 20 or 30 on my own animations, but that's of course depends on the animation)
‘p’ defines a animation part (some animations have 2 or more parts)
’0′ defines that it loops forever (until android starts)
’0′ defines a pause
And remember that the thanks button works...

thx, maybe I will try to create one...
maybe I try this when I root my phone...

funny, that shouldn't happen. try to re-download. this time I uploaded the one I actually used on my phone.

This launcher sucks. App Drawer doesn't show all apps.
good work man ! but the timescape font is HUGE!
looks ugly :/

i flashed this archive into recovery

That's exactly the same procedures as the 1st post.
the downloadable "build" script will automate the build prop change needed, while the SE_timescape.zip is a signed(edify) version of SEUX.zip.
About the fonts, YEP they're ugly alright(as you can see on my screenies) I wasn't really planning to use timescape but I really wanted the photo and video widget to work. So if anyone can help here, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Another thing, I wanted to use the SE launcher from this thread but was unsuccessful. Again, if anyone can help out, please do.
Even though it has a few bloats, I still like this launcher(+ photo widget and folders - really cool). I also think it's really fast. I don't have much time to tinker right now so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I really don't know where you're getting at but trust me, both files are one and the same(only difference is with the update scripts which can be fixed by toggling signature verification). Anyways I've re-uploaded the SE_timescape.zip which is now compatible with all optimus one recoveries.

It may even be a kernel related issue so try franco kernel as the default may not support it ,well just flash bootanimation if it doesnt work than extract the zip it will have 2 file meta inf and system/under sytem-media-bootanimation.
there is no isssue with the bootanimation it is just that if the installation location is fine it will work or rather chk in gb where is the bootanimation placed by default if u have it in system/media than it will work just try another kernel
now follow 1 of the following
Root Explorer method:
2. Put bootanimation on your SD card
3. Open Root Explorer and copy bootanimation.zip to /system/media or data/local(for non rooted phone). This will replace the existing boot animation
4. Reboot your phone
ADB method:
1. Make sure you have downloaded android sdk
2. Put android sdk in C:\
3. Set the directory of command prompt to C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools. Click here for a video tutorial.
4. Rename your boot animation to bootanimation and put it in C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools
5. Open cmd
6. Type in order:
-adb remount
-adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
-adb reboot
As i said tested in cm7 so not sure of gingerbread at the moment.

At the rom you are using, animations are located in /data/local directory.
1. Download LS or PO-bootanimation.zip and rename it to bootanimation.zip
2. With some file manager (RootExplorer) copy the new animation over the old in /data/local directory.
3. After copying, change permissions (rw-, r -, r -)

How to install:
First, you must have superuser access, in other words, be rooted. If you don't know what it is, look here.
If you are rooted, you should use adb, Droid Explorer, Terminal Emulator or Root Explorer to copy bootimage.zip to /system/media.
I recommend using either Droid Explorer (Program running on .NET and partially Mono) or Root Explorer (Program running on your phone).
If you prefer to use a terminal, type:
su (After this you should give the terminal you are using superuser access)
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /system/media/ (Assuming the bootimage.zip is in the root of the SD card)
chmod 644 /system/media/bootanimation.zip
reboot (In case you wish to try out the new boot animation)
Permission must set to 644

Now I've made it.
For the first part(spinning CM logo), I have centered the android logo.
For the second part(after everything goes white), I have made it loop seamlessly.
Enjoy!

[BOOT ANIMATION] CyanogenMod 9 CM9 for MDPI devices...
Works on Optimus One...
Taken from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510557
Just changed a small line in the desc.txt... Tried downscaling images, but didn't work out... So left the images at 360x640 resolution... Looks slightly egg-shaped... I don't really know how to make boot animations...
I hope someone can improve over this bootanimation though...

PS: The secret is to cut the images. Otherwise could not resize without distorting the images.

Android Logo went off center... Would it be possible to readjust the boot animation images so that Android remains at the center of the screen, instead of being at the top?
Also, your boot animation ends a lot more quickly, before the phone gets enough time to boot up. The older boot animation I had posted lasts a lot longer, until phone boots completely... I don't know how it all is supposed to work...
When I try to install it from ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0, the installation has aborted. What's the problem?

The problem is that you have to put it in system/media trough a file manager(like root explorer or es file explorer) and then change the permissions to rw-r--r-- (as said in the first post....)

It's just because the one who made the boot animation didn't make the part which makes the boot animation loop.
Now I'm making one with centered android logo (partly) and loop. Stay tuned. But anyway, I'd like to thank those who brought this awesome animation to P500

cm9 boot image
I instaled it and looks awesome
It looks great, although on "weaker" devices is not so smooth, but it is still great tho.

I changed permission and when I try to paste the zip in system/media, a popup advises me that there aren't enough space to paste it.

If you are on CM9, uninstall some system apps and delete the videos is /system/media/video/(those are 200% useless)

I haven't the video folder xD I tried to uninstall some system apps and now the free space is of 8 Mb. The bootanimation is only 3Mb, but root explorer advises me that there isn't enough space still.
EDIT: I've the Beta 3 still.

Delete the old one before... if still won't work, try with ES... if still not working, then uninstall apps like movie editor, camera etc...

Guys, if you are on CM7, just place the bootanimation on data/local folder. No need to replace the original one from system/media.
