Any hope of the HDMI being fixed? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It works but those black bars on the sides plus the bar at the bottom just kill the experience. I really hope they give us different options. The Infinity did HDMI out perfectly (well, except for one thing, problems with fullscreen browser videos unless we used iPad user agent).

Video Output Problems

Hi everyone. I am having a few issues with the miniHDMI output. I just got a cable for it today, and these are the problems I am having:
- The spec sheet says the Transformer should be able to do 1080p output, but mine only does 720p. I read that this was to be fixed in Honeycomb 3.1, but I did the update and there is no difference.
- When displaying in 720p, the top, left, and right sides of the screen are all cut off. This makes browsing my RSS feeds in Pulse impossible in 720p, because when I go to read an article the article shows up on the right side of the screen and has about three letters cut off and unviewable. This also makes programs like AKNotepad unusable, since I cannot see the left side of anything I am typing. The TV I am outputting to supports up to 1080p, and I am in its native format (all the other options zoom in).
Are there any solutions for this?
No idea how to bump the output resolution but check to see if your TV supports different aspect ratios in the picture settings. For my LG and Samsung TVs at home the default 16:9 and 16:10 doesn't quite cut it, so i had to select an option called just scan, and it filled the screen properly then. It may also be called overscan correction as that would be the technical term for this.

Full screen when using HDMI

I hooked up my Transformer to my LCD TV. The TV is full 1080p.
I noticed that a sizable area around the edge of the display is clipped off. For example I cannot see the status bar on the TV, but it is still there on the transformer screen as well.
I was wondering is anyone else having this problem? or even better a solution?
Thanks
It does this because the display on the transformer is 1280x800, so it cuts the display down to 1280x720 (720P). This way it displays full screen on the tv what your trying to watch.
Is there anyway to have the transformer output to 1280x800? I also do not like how the output appears zoomed.

first check so the TV shows 1:1 pixel ratio/full pixel and not "normal". My TV cuts of the hdmi signal somewhat, even with computers attached, call it overscan if you like, unless i choose "full pixel" (sonys name for it).
So try hunting in your settings on the TV. When i tried on my TV i didnt loose anything but the statusbar is not shown on tv, i guess thats not realy important as it is the video/app you want to see and they are not aware of the statusbar anyway.
Great!! Thanks a couple of things to try.
hmmm
I thought that hiding the bar was a feature!
I have this issue also. It not only cuts off the bottom bar but both sides are croped a little. I have tried the HDMI out on 3 different TV's and they all show the same croped effect. This is weird to me because my laptop displays 720p or 1080p perfectly on the same TV's Is there a fix for this?
Thanks

This has been discussed already. Have a search of this forum.
Basically it's due to the difference in aspect ratio between your TV and the tablet.
Under the original firmware, when using a video app like MX Player it was possible to zoom in on the tablet and this would allow the image on the TV to zoom to the point where the black bars on the disappeared. This no longer works on either the 4.3 or 4.4.2 firmware. If you use HDMI a lot and the bars bug you, you need to roll back to the 4.2 firmware. Bear in mind you will still get the black bars on the main GUI, but not in movie players that allow zooming.
thanks for your answer
i found this im not sure if working

Good find. For my part I decided to take another route. I now use a wireless dongle and the free companion app by EZCast to stream movies to my TV which works quite well now - when streaming in EZCast mode (basically WiFi direct) there are no bars on the left and right. The screen can be turned off to save battery. You can also minimise the app while you're streaming a film to allow you to open the IMDB app for those vital 'what has she been in before' arguments with your partner . The dongle was about £30 from Amazon. It also features EZMirror which, um, mirrors the whole tablet's screen to the TV but then you're back to having bars left and right, and there's too much latency for gaming. Also, when using EZMirror, there is a pronounced slow down in the tablet whereas when using an HDMI cable there is no performance penalty at all. It's a shame that Nvidia aren't taking advantage of the latter as devices that output images to a TV via an MHL port/adapter experience a considerable performance hit as the device has to work so much harder. Another negative factor here is that the Note doesn't seem able to take a charge when connected to a USB hub via an OTG cable which also limits the usefulness of the tablet as a media device connected to a TV or monitor.
To return to the original problem, my TV has an option in the settings menu to either 'just scan' or to display 16:9. The latter removes a big chunk of the bars on the left and of the screen, but it also hides part of the top and bottom of the picture, which is OK on a movie, but less so when viewing the home screen etc.

Can you share us the photo?, I'm thinking on buying one and I want it to use for playing videos on my TV.

Do you mean EZCast information?
If so, there's lots of info on YouTube that will explain/show you how it works http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6_U44XUdJ0. Search for videos by EZCast themslelves - they have videos for various devices.
Bear in mind that there are two basic modes, EZCast and EzMirror. EZMirror literally mirrors everything you see on your tablet's screen (which also leads to vertical black bars on the left and right of the picture on the TV screen, just like when you use HDMI due to the differing aspect ratio of the tablet and the TV).
EZCast presents a menu on the tablet screen and then allows you to select different types of media to stream to the TV. This works well for films because it will fill the TV screen. It's less useful for streamimg music to a TV at the moment because it will only stream one song file at a time, after which you have to select another song.
If you buy one, there are different hardware versions available. Mine has 128MB of RAM. I have a feeling that those on offer that have 256MB RAM and a faster CPU will provide better streaming performance.
Hope this helps

Thanks, but I meant the vertical bands when displayed the HDMI Output on the TV

Oops, sorry. The exact size of the bands on the left and right of the TV screen will depend upon what formats the TV supports. For example one of my TVs zooms in slightly by default cropping a bit of the top and bottom of the phone or tablet's screen off (meaning you lose most of the notification bar and some of the soft keys, or whatever is at the bottom of the picture). I have another TV that allows different settings such as 'just scan' that shows all of the phone or tablet's screen. The downside of this is that on a phone/tablet with a 1280x800 resolution you have vertical black bars about an inch wide on either side of the picture on a 32" TV. I'll try and get a photo...
Unfortunately the camera on my HTC Sensation is struggling to capture the problem tonight, but here's a closeup of the right hand side of my TV with the tablet set to full screen mode, and the TV picture settings to 'just scan'. I might try and get a fuller photo the daylight tomorrow.

Atongm w013 aka Reedone X2 first impressions

I bought the Atongm W013 from efox and it arrived on September 2.
I only have it for one day so i will post first impressions and hopefully i will follow with further info.
Design :
The watch is slim and light , weighing 60 grams, it sits very comfortable on the wrist. The leather feels real and it should fit most people.
There is black outline of the screen is visible. The clasp feels plastic. The button on the side (rotating) seems sturdy but if it will hold, only time will tell.
The metal is prone to smudges.
The transflective screen is good. You can see the time clearly in almost all conditions. The lcd screen seems to have a low dpi and dull colors, which i suppose, is a consequence of the tech behind transflective.
Hardware:
You can find most of the specs on internet i cannot verify at the moment anything. If someone knows of an apk (or adb shell command) that will allow me to check this, please advise. Note: it must work on Indroid!
There is one button that acts as on/off/stby/wake switch and an invisible capacitive button on the bottom right corner of the screen which acts as BACK.
The touchscreen is responsive and feels ok. You can type on the onscreen keyboard with greatest ease than with the ZGPAX S8 i have.
The software:
It runs on a version of android 4.3 named Indroid. The firmware on mine is v1.6-x2-hwv1.1.0-20150402.
The heart rate and step counter work as expected: not accurate but close enough. Both functions DO NOT work on the background, which is plain lame. Once you press back it stops counting.
The companion app did not work for me when i was running CM12.1 on my galaxy s4 (i could no install it). I think it has problems running on ART. I downgraded to 4.4.4 and it works flawlessly so far.
Notifications work nice, the screen lights up automatically and the notification text is displayed in size 10 letters.
The vibration on the watch is perfect. Not to strong not to weak.
Audio is weeeeeeaaaaak. The speaker is on the back side of the watch and i can barely hear anything.
The settings allow some developer options but are very limited compared to normal android.
Ingenic provides an adb driver for the watch that works fine and i have been able to get root through adb and perform basic ops.
The watch faces are 8. 7 of them is -imho- crap and one (the digital display) is nice.
Remote control camera works but with some lag.
Remote music control, find my phone, weather, contacts sync, sound recorder and calendar work fine.
Overall:
Very happy. I payed 60 euro and it is totally worth it. I already have the ZGPAX S8( heavily modded both soft and hardware) which i use for my runs. So i wanted an elegant watch that i could wear at work and get notifications for calls, sms and mail. Most people do not notice that this is a smartwatch until i tell them and then most of them ask if it is the apple watch.
If this guys could come up with a decent firmware that would allow some sensible use of the sensors (like heart rate transmission through BT to phone, or heart rate sampling every 30 minutes to present data ,or just keep the step counter...counting) it would be better.
Hi, I got the same smartwatch yesterday. I have the Prob to find an App for sync to my smartphone. The Link of QR Code isn´t exist. Where can I found the sync App. Please help me. Thanks.

Get rid of black bars on my ultra wide screen (21:9)

Hi all.
I want to use my fire stick on my ultra wide screen monitor with an aspect ratio of 21:9. Unfortunately I get two massive black bars on the sides due to the resolution.
I'm looking for a way to change the resolution on the firestick - I don't mind tinkering with the firestick, perhaps I can do this with an app.
Would appreciate any advice.
You change it by holding certain buttons (sorry idk them off the top of my head) but no way that its gonna output in that resolution.
I ALSO HAVE BLACK BARS ON MY TV THROUGH BEELINK GT KING WITH ANDROID 9 IN TIVIMATE PREMIUM. I TRIED EVERYTHING I KNOW AND STILL BLACK BARS ON CERTAIN CHANNELS.
THE FUNNY THING MY BEELINK GT ULTIMATE WITH ANDROID 6 USING ASPECT RATIO FEATURE IN TIVIMATE WORKS BUT NOT IN ANDROID 9.
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS?
