Can anyone advise me on what apps I need to start to build a custom rom for the S3 I300?
Any help would most helpfully, as I would like to give something back to XDA.
Apps aren't gonna build a ROM for you mate.. None that I'm aware of. Honestly I'd try googling starting points, chances are it will lead you to a thread or two here on XDA.

Omega is always a good starting point but don't just try roms. There are quite a few mods you can install regardless of rom just make sure the base matches .
Anyway hope you enjoy your new phone !

Each ROM is a little bit different.. read the OPs.. the features, the tweaks.. see which one YOU like!

Go root it and flash CWM.
Once your done download my ROM and try it out and tell me how you like it.
Closed, I recommend reading some threads in the development section there is also a thread in the general section that lists available roms and mods/etc, "What's the best rom" or "What roms should I try threads" are OT and not needed.
Also post questions in the Q and A section in future.
Hi, I'm newbie in developing android platform.
I'm searching for how to build and install the platform of android into gt-n7000.
I could find there is a post about kernel , but nothing about building, installing entire platform or ROMs.
As I saw that many custom ROMs for gt-n7000 in this forum, many good developers who knows how to build and install the custom platform are here.
Can you post how-to thread for newbies like me?? If there are such posts that I couldn't find already or the method is same with that of another device, let me know please..

Do not try building Roms. You might end up briking yours and others(should you release them). It's good to be inquisitive but assembling a rom without proper understanding of android/hardware and their limitations .... First learn about Unix and a few programming(c, java etc ) language, It's not the quick way but it is what I'd do. Unless you don't be a developers and just another guy with another mediocre ROM(whom have flooded xda lately) .

Hi XDians,
If any senoir member can write a step by step guide to convert (PORT) Galaxy SII rom to SII G version then it will be helpfull tohave a lot of different ROM's for the G version.
Please try to make it. We need futher more rom in G as it is picking up in mass and active members....
I would love that too but open in Q & A because all the members now wont answer and tell u wrong section

More and more roms is not a good idea... i like having each rom of different type.. like aokp, miui and now codename android... more roms ll not benefit...
Anyway there are no. Of porting guides which you can follow on xda already....
Please search a bit...
For eg. To port aosp rom cm is taken as base and app, font, framework, media folders are replaced by the rom to be ported.... and then in lib folder android_runtime.so is replaced and at last build.prop is edited... and if u r lucky then it ll boot
Other way is to compile from source Nd fuss is already in the process of completing the guide when he is free.... look up first before posting...
Creating a thread for a request should be the last idea and that also in Q/A section

Really helpful incarnation. The idea behind the forum is interaction and to learn - teach - learn.
We need a place to interact. This is not the matter of Q & A. This is more than that...
You said "if lucky then " it will work. We at XD don't depend on luck but we relay on effort....
anyhow thanks for the reply...
Looking forward for support and encouragement

This absolutely does not belong in Development, it belongs in General, where it is now. If you didn't make it, it doesn't belong in Development.

By being lucky i mean that all ROMS cannot be ported for any phone. One has to choose the phone (which is as close in terms of software and hardware) from which you want to port to your phone.
The method of replacing folders that i wrote is kinda for NOOBS, but heck who cares if it works i had tried to port slim jb(i9000), remics jb (i9000)and super nexus(i9100) and succeeded with nexus and remics jb.... the slim jb didnt boot unfortunately.
Whereas the method to compile from source is a better and an elegant way of doing this, and it requires some knowledge of git, linux
Fuss is busy in making a dualboot kernel for us but he confirmed completeing the thread that explains compiling aosp roms from source
If i helped hit the thanks button
Great help. Thank u for thus detailed explanation. Just now saw the work of fuss... let's cross fingers and wait
Waiting patiently for the update and a good guide

Hi guys! This is my first time posting on this forum, but i have come to many threads as a visitor to figure out problems regarding my google nexus 4 and i have to say this is one of the most useful forums ever! I can find nearly everything here, its totally awesome..
now to the point, my question is Which one gives faster and better performance? Cm10.1 or combination of kernel franco r136 and rom paranoid android alpha? because i recently saw a video on youtube where this person was testing custom nexus 4 vs stock samsung s4 and using only franco r136 and paranoid rom he increased his performance by A LOT (compared to my antutu benchmark which was utterly disappointing.. around 16.5k ) without overclocking..
if the combination is better than how to install the kernel and rom (can anyone link me to a noobs guide to installing roms and kernels?) because i just rooted my phone 3 days ago without checking the "custom recovery check box" .. (btw, the nexus root toolkit 1.7.2 is awesome!!!) ..
i am currently running stock kernel and rom i think and my phone is only rooted.. (kernel version: 3.4.0 and build number jwr66y)..
Thanks for reading my first post and thread!

oke a question though.. since posting in that thread without actually trying to install a rom or kernel would be useless..
if i make a backup of all my apps.. and say i install cm10.1 or the combination i mentioned in my first post.. will i be able to restore my apps using the nexus root toolkit or will i have to install all my apps from again..?
I have a touchwiz device so im not fully qualified to answer your question. Thats why I gave you a ask any question for your device thread. Most members use apps like titanium backup to back there apps up

Can someone please direct me to a working Kitchen for this phone? Also any hints or tips would be nice. I've done a bit of ROM cooking for Windows Mobile and Windows Phone, but never on Android. I'm anxious to get my hands dirty on the G2 and need some guidance.
I looked at the Kitchens listed, but didn't see any that specifically said they were G2 compatible.
Thank you in advance,
SuperSport
Needed Advice:
Dumping steps - Tools Needed
Working Kitchen - System Requirements - Hopefully Windows 8 x64???
Anything else you can think of...
G2 is too new to have any sort of Kitchen. We just now have a few ROMs based on the stock ROM.
How are the cooks doing the modifications to the stock ROMs to get a working customized ROM?

Completely different on android..... not really any cooks... eventually there will be alot of roms, and u find one with the features u like and use it, or build ur own from source how u want. Below is a link to info on really the only Android kitchen, but not the same deal as windows! Read up, and see what u think. If u want to learn to dev read, read, read, read..... and try and let go of ur windows based knowledge!!!

I would suggest you go down the AOSP route, it's the most documented, and there are teams of well versed Devs out there. Just a suggestion though. As always is about the fun. Have some
