Whenever I get a new email, the phone will vibrate if i'm in vibrate mode, if i'm not in silent then it won't. I messed with the settings and I can't see to turn off vibrate completely...
Related question, I cannot get my phone to vibrate for each new email in an email thread. It only vibrates on the first email. I have the box un-checked for "notify once" and my notifications box is checked and my vibrate box is checked. Everything with the phone is completely stock and I am using the stock GMail app. I like to think I am not retarded and do not think I have the incorrect boxes checked/unchecked. The phone gets the mail messages (and the LED lights up), but does not vibrate.

Hey guys- I just got my MDA on Monday, and love it. I have done all sorts of reg hacks and have made this device truely awesome. I have one problem though. If I am in class, or work, I put the device in sleep (or standby mode), to save battery life. THe problem that I have is that I do not get a notification when I receive a text. When I get a call, itll wake up and vibrate and everything, but nothing happens when I get messages.
It happens when I have it on vibrate, or on loud.
Under Settings : Sounds and Notifications, I have the boxes checked for Sounds Tab, "Events", "Programs" and under that "Notifications (alarms, reminders)"
Then in the Notifications Tab, I have all boxes selected for the "Messaging: New Text message".
What I would like to happen, is receive a nice long vibration, so that I know that I have a message. I would also like the screen to come on with a notification so that I know that I have a message.
From what I have read, the screen will come on, then go back off, but I need it to stay on.
Any Ideas???

That's quite diffirent, i have all boxes checked for the "Messaging: New Text Message" and i alwayls received a screen to come on with a notification when a sms came even my device is in sleep mode
There is should be some problem with your device regarding its notification functions.
If you are using other software which can set ring/notification profiles, pls try to remove it
If problem still persists, i believe only a hardreset could bring it back to normal
Good luck
this has been asked previously, but went unnoticed. has anyone figured out the way to wake up the device if you receive an email while in standby. i use hd tweak to enable wake up for sms, and to enable wifi on standby, but there's no point in that if the device doesn't wake up on new email.
I have the same problem with all the ROMs I've tried.
Never seem to get notification of new emails as and when my hotmail account is automatically checked as per set schedule.....
do you want the light to flash
if yes you should go to sounds& notifications and click on new email were it allows you to change tones display message on screen and flash when recieving a new email.
if i receive an email in standby, the sound plays, but LED doesnt flash, nor does the device wake up. i was hoping since it was made possible for sms, we can make it happen for email as well.
I'd like this too... I have trawled through google search and these forums but no luck yet....
Have you tried going to Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Event "Messaging: New e-mail message" and then selecting 'Display message on screen' & 'Flash lite for...' etc?

Yes, but that doesn't work either. Only the LED flashes, but the device doesn't wake up. The reason why I want it is that the LED doesn't flash if the device is being charged at the same time.
Hi all, copy and paste from Amon_RA's thread which I've posted in also. I'm running Amon_RA's 1.6.1 ROM and am wondering if the following happens to you as well? If it does, what ROM are you running? Is it donut-based? Thank you.
Some bugs/features in 1.6.1? I'm not too sure if it's intended to function this way in Donut, hence the bug/feature portion. I'm experiencing the following problem on 1.6.1, with email notification and vibration turned on:
Assuming I do not have any email notifications currently, and I have zero unread mail in my email. When I receive a new email (be it for one or two email at a time), my phone will vibrate and have the notification, as expected.
However, this is where things get different. If I were to ignore the notification (let it remain there) or clear the notification WITHOUT tapping on it and going into Gmail, any subsequent emails I receive will only result in having the LED blinking, and the number of unread count in the notifications bar will increase. The phone does not vibrate, neither does it ring.
If I were to tap on the notification and enter Gmail, then my phone will vibrate and notify me again. This happens regardless of whether I read the unread emails in Gmail, or let them remain unread.

Anyone?
Yup, I concur.
I just tested this. Received an email, cleared the notification. Then sent another email to myself from browser. My phone didn't vibrate and notify me, except with the green LED.
Cleared the notification by opening Gmail.
Then i re-sent the same email, notification & vibration is back again.
Wondered what's wrong, i've got a feeling that the flag is set wrongly too.
Ive posted this to Google already but have yet to receive a reply..

Hello everyone,
Whenever I get a new email in my Gmail box, my phone vibrates when in Vibrate Mode. But in Gmail options, I have vibration on new emails explicitly disabled. It seems the phone itself is overriding that setting. How can I get this to stop?
I don't want all vibrations in Vibrate Mode disabled though. I would still like my phone to vibrate for incoming text messages, but not for emails.

To my knowledge, what vibrate mode does is take all audible notifications and make them vibrate. That being said, if you have any notification on for your gmail, it will then vibrate when you get an email.

Hmm, makes sense I suppose, though it's not the best way to handle the scenario. If you have vibration for a notification specifically turned off, then the phone shouldn't take it upon itself to add a vibration to it just because the phone is in Vibrate Mode. I guess I'm just used to the more intelligent way Cyanogenmod does it where it provides an option to turn off vibration during a notification if has already been turned off in the app itself.
I am waiting VERY patiently for Cyanogenmod nightlies for this phone...
Yeah, well it's just over 3 weeks until this phone will be liberated as it should have been released originally! Until then, you could try playing around with a 3rd party app for sounds, etc. I don't have any to suggest unfortunately, because I don't use them, but it's just a thought.
What mcmb03 states seems true and definitely applying in Gmail app's case. I can only get it to stop vibration notification (when phone is set to vibrate mode) if I completely turn off the (or uncheck) Label notifications from my Gmail account settings.
Bug?
Either way, I sent feedback via the "Send feedback" option within the app. Fingers crossed I'm not the only one who has reported this "issue" to them and they will correct the Vibrate check function to override device/system setting.

I have my Gmail inbox set to the settings shown in my screenshot. I tested to confirm for you, these settings - mine does not vibrate when phone is in vibrate mode because it is unchecked.
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Gmail app?
Well, I somewhat lied. I received upwards of 15 emails when in vibrate mode with "vibrate" unchecked and it did not vibrate. However, I have just received a couple shortly after posting and my phone DID vibrate... Odd...
EDIT: The emails to my Gmail app i received while my phone was in Vibrate mode with the vibrate feature DISABLED, those emails were sent to me with high priority, they were not a regular email. Just a note. Still weird.
