Nexus 7 Bricked Very Badly - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I bricked my n7 so badly. Here is what I did.
I accidentally flashed nakasig factory image on my wifi n7 from google factory images. It gave me a lots of errors.
I already had screen jamming issues when battery is < 5. Now my userdata partition is broken. I can't erase or format using recovery/fastboot. It always gives me errors. When I stay too much at recovery or bootloader it starts jamming. I can flash roms but it doesn't boots because of not working userdata partition and after waiting a while at boot animation. I can't turn my n7 on by just holding it for 2-3 seconds. I almost hold for 30-40 seconds everytime(Unless I choose reboot to recovery or reboot to bootloader from recovery or fastboot). Before people start saying flash the wifi factory image, yes I tried, even the 4.1.2 factory image. System partition gives me this error
Code:
sending 'system' (446268 KB)...
FAILED (status read failed (Unknown error)
finished. total time: 1.169s
I also found I can erase userdata partition after erasing system boot and cache it says ok but looks like its not working.
I can flash custom roms using sideloading but they don't boot.

There should be an option on fastboot to go to bootloader and then from there recovery should be available, is that option available to you?
yes but recovery won't boot, sits at mt4g boot screen or sits at 3 skaters in center screen, depending on how I access it (ie go to fastboot then back again)
Power down your phone, hold volume down and the power button. That will take you into the hboot screen. You can then select to go into recovery from there.
thats what I have tried, it goes to three skaters center screen does nothing
I have tried flashing recovery from fastboot
tried hboot from fastboot
tried radio from fastboot
NOTHING flashes trust me I have been androiding for a while now never had I had a problem like this.

Is three skaters your boot animation or splash screen? Not sure what that is referring to.
the three skaters is the image at bottom of hboot screen, when i select recovery they go to center screen and nothing happens

got recovery to boot but get
e:can't mount /cache/recovery/command
etc
tried to mount, tried to format

Edit: nvm. Is doing RUU better option than loading PD15IMG.ZIP on sdcard and doing it that way?

Sounds like you maybe victim of fail-pu. But if thats not the case and you don't care about your "/data" and just want working phone again then I suggest from fastboot you do "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" which will replace the current recovery.img and flash it to mmcblk0p21. Once thats done do "fastboot erase system -w" and it will nuke everything so /system, /data, ect will all be erased. After that you can enter recovery by selecting it from hboot and then do factory wipe and flash another rom.
Keep in mind you will run in to errors in recovery after -w as its normal but depending on the fail-pu if you do get the failed partition update flag you can't make any changes as the errors will stick because you can't format the drives. Also the new recovery.img for CWMR can be found in dev section if not post here and ill send you.
I don't care at all about the data (I am well backed up) but I can't flash a recovery I have tried through fastboot, I agree the partition is F_D but I will try the erase system -w and see if that lets me do anything
thanks

Exactly what I got too, seems we have bricked our phones. Wish I had a way of making the phone unable to boot to recovery or at all.

I dont get how a phone can run for weeks since its last flash and have this happen, I made no changes updates etc just running as normal.
Is there a way to wipe evidence of cm of so I can get this phone repaired? To me this obviously a faulty emmc, I just can't see it being anything else.
or is it possible to boot recovery on sd like the nook?
any ideas on how to wipe cm bits atleast?

Unable to format in TWRP

When I try to wipe internal it says
Code:
Wiping internal storage -- /data/media...
Error opening: '/data/media' (No such file or directory)
When I try to format instead - I get even more errors:
Code:
Formatting Data using make_ext4fs...
Failed to mount '/data' (Device or resource busy)
Failed to mount '/data' (Device or resource busy)
Unable to recreate /data/media folder.
You may need to reboot recovery to be able to use /data again.
Updating partition details...
Failed to mount '/data' (Device or resource busy)
...done
Is this because of encryption? And if so - this is weird because I never encrypted my device. I currently have no OS and just trying to unsoftbrick my phone.

Use fastboot and make sure you are using the latest binaries. Format system, userdata and cache. Upon booting for the first time, the 6P automatically defaults to encryption- unless you intervene and stop it from doing so.

Yep, I just fixed it somehow, I think it was related to MTP in TWRP. However now I'm stuck with a different issue. No matter what I flash in fastboot - I get
Code:
C:\Users\Nexusflip\AppData\Local\Android\sdk\platform-tools>fastboot flash recovery D:\Downloads\angler\twrp-3.1.1-0-angler.img
target didn't report max-download-size
sending 'recovery' (16948 KB)...

finished. total time: 0.003s
I always get this weird "No error" thing.

Are you sure you are using the latest binaries? Hash checked the TWRP file? Put TWRP img in your fastboot folder? Format/erase recovery partition?

Yes I'm using the latest binaries - I got them via Android SDK and updated everything. I checked the ones you linked and they are exactly the same.
Regarding the hash check - this has nothing to do with the file being corrupted. This happens with ANY file I try to flash.
I tried putting the TWRP img in my fastboot folder and the results are the same.
Erasing the recovery partition gives the same error.
Code:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Android\sdk\platform-tools>fastboot erase recovery
erasing 'recovery'...
FAILED (command write failed (No error))
finished. total time: 0.009s

Were you able to successfully fastboot format userdata, system and cache with no errors? Did you get the same error using format as you did erase recovery? Is your phone bootlooping ? If yes, then your phone may have the BLOD. There are a few instances of users still having access to recovery mode, but not being able to flash anything. If you flash a full stock image with flash-all.bat, it finishes but the phone still loops then you likely have the BLOD.

I tried minimal adb & fastboot (bit older version) and got this.
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-0-angler.img
target didn't report max-download-size
sending 'recovery' (16948 KB)...
FAILED (command write failed (Unknown error))
finished. total time: 0.007s
Then I tried another old version of fastboot - got one from july 2016 (23.0.1) and nothing happened when executing flash or format commands.
Then I tried normal, latest fastboot and both (new & old) versions of fastboot gave me this error.
Code:
C:\Users\Nexusflip\AppData\Local\Android\sdk\platform-tools>fastboot erase userdata
erasing 'userdata'...
FAILED (command write failed (No error))
finished. total time: 0.023s
Then I tried to format (instead of erase)
Code:
C:\Users\Nexusflip\AppData\Local\Android\sdk\platform-tools>fastboot format userdata
FAILED (command write failed (No error))
I don't know if my phone is bootlooping because I don't have OS installed and my internal storage is squeaky clean. All this crap didn't just start out of nowhere - I flashed 8.0.0 dev preview 2 images through TWRP. I know I'm not the brightest. When I launch flash-all.bat it's just blank and does nothing at all.

It sounds to me like your internal storage (memory) is bad. Bottom line is that if you can't format your basic partitions successfully, you will not be able to flash a full ROM. If you don't believe your memory is bad, you can search the 6P forums for the Qualcomm Flash Image Loader (QFIL) & EDL mode. There is a rescue binary for the 6P floating around that some people have been successful in using restoring corrupt partitions, presumably because it works at the hardware level.

What should I do from now on? I have no idea what to do. The device has been bricked for 24 hours now.
This is the closest I've found to my problem. Also on a Nexus 6P. https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/zip-file-signature-verification-error-t3561054
I tried adb reboot edl and it says error: closed. So not even that works.

Stock fastboot does not support boot to EDL. You need a modified fastboot, BUT getting to EDL mode won't help you until you have all the proper tools and 6P specific files. I don't want to get your hopes up. I think your device is not recoverable due to a hardware issue (bad memory). If you are looking for a learning project to keep you busy with very little hope of success, keep digging. If you need a working phone, you need to buy another one, or a 6P replacement motherboard from a screen damaged parts phone. Unfortunately, there have been many onboard memory failures on the 6P.
I fixed the problem. It turned out to be a faulty USB-C to USB-A cable. The only problems were with file transfer-related commands. I then tried transferring a 1 kb file, then 1 mb (failed) then 200kb, then 300kb (failed). So it turns out the cable is ****ty. Wow. And nothing is corrupted. I'm typing this from my phone now.

Stuck in Welcome Screen loop, cannot access twrp. BOUNTY!

I recently re-flashed MAXIMUM Overdrive after experiencing some battery issues. Upon doing the dalvik, cache, system and data wipes, then reinstalling the ROM, I found myself sitting on the Welcome screen, and unable to get past it after confirming the account my phone had before.
I've tried getting into TWRP to no avail. The Vol Down and power, then yes on both factory resets just takes me to twrp, resets the phone, then reboots, not allowing me to do anything. I can get into Fastboot, but no route to recovery from there. ADB doesn't recognize since I haven't been able to turn on usb debugging yet.
Does anyone happen to have any ideas? I'm basically sitting on a brick at the moment. I'll buy you lunch or a beer if you can manage to be the solution
which variant? if its the vzw(your profile) boot into fastboot and on the computer type
Code:
fastboot erase system
then
Code:
fastboot reboot
and that will force twrp to load.

It's the T-Mobile US Variant. H18. That didn't work unfortunately, presumably because it's the tmo variant.
Output:
Code:
******** Did you mean to fastboot format this ext4 partition?
erasing 'system'...
FAILED (remote: unknown command)
finished. total time: 0.020s
I also tried fastboot format:ext4 system. That failed as well.
I'm just curious how it got stuck in this loop to begin with since I wiped pretty much everything.
Solved by restoring firmware to stock with LGUP

Fix for FileWriteFsiled and NoError

I seem to have an issue that appears frequently, yet I cant find an answer.
This is a fix to Remote: FileWriteFailed
So, I was trying to reflash stock again for multirom and it fails. It can erase everything yet cannot flash anything. Basically:
Writing 'bootloader' (remote: (FileWriteFailed))
It shows up Signature Match, so I decided to continue
It sends boot, boot flashes
Anything else, I get the same Remote FileWriteFailed.
I thought that my partitions killed themselves again, so I tried flashing TWRP
Fails with same error.
I looked and found I can just boot it. So I tried and get this:
Command: fastboot boot twrp.img
downloading boot.img...
FAILED (command write failed (No error)
Restarted bootloader to try again
Recovery flashed. Im feeling confident
I go and try to update via update image
Flash bootloader OKAY
Command: fastboot update -w image-nakasi-ktu84p.zip
Archive doesnt contain *.sig
Checks everything, makes partitions
Everythings okay
Fix is (if you have sdk already)
So, basically, you have to erase System, cache, userdata, boot and recovery with fastboot erase.
Then find your factory image from google and download it
Extract everything and move the image-nakasi-*****.zip and bootloader.img to your sdk folder
Flash bootloader
Use command: fastboot update -w image-nakasi-*****.zip
Wait

Need help with brick

I have a Redmi 7a brick, it has an unlocked bootloader, TWRP was flashed and Android 12 custom rom
At one point, unexpectedly during normal operation, the phone froze, an attempt to restart led to freezing on the Redmi splash screen, which later switched to Fastboot. When you try to start the recovery, it loads for about 20 minutes and responds very slowly to actions, in the mount column, the internal memory partition is 0MB, attempts to format / change the file system lead to a freeze, the phone is detected through the computer using fastboot, but any attempts to flash the recovery / system are not what they don’t lead to (writes that it’s successful, but in fact nothing), as they said on other forums and examples, this is the death of internal memory, but maybe there is an opportunity to fix it

in principle, there is a solution by going through EDL MODE . you have a chance to restore your phone,
do your research on the net about this method.
