Congratulations! Xoom development is quite exciting right now. There are the mature and stable Honeycomb roms Moray 2.2.2 for wifi and 3G, one for 4G, and the Odachi kernel from Team Tiamat, as well as several kernels from Team Rogue. There is also a terrific alpha ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) rom in development, that I'm using as a daily driver.
Check out this thread, though it may have a bit of out of date info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209341

Was meant to be going for £199 by CPW.
They actually priced it instore for £199!
But apparently they 'messed up' and it wasnt the right price....
Tried to use price match plus 10% off at PC world
they said they rang the local cpw and said they could not as not in stock
I went over the cpw, they had 3 in stock, bought it
went back to pc world complained they'd told porkies
got a £30 free spend as a sorry we messed up
got a 16gb usb stick, a case for it, and a screen protector
I'm assuming the Xoom will get ICS officially ?

How are you finding it?
Do you recommend it?

Its nice enough, not as snazzy as the samsung, but its £150 cheaper and feels much better made, plus I don't need stupid dongles for a mini hdmi port
keyboard lags sometimes though
what causes that ?

Motorola announced that the Xoom will officially get ICS a while back. At least in the US.
I also picked up a Xoom from CPW for £250, great little device! Next step, root and then ICS
I got one as well
Easiest way to root this thing?
Anyone tried that xoot ?

Im a complete noob on rooting and rom flashing
So not so keen to give it a go.
This guide is fine for setting up Android SDK (ADB):
http://alldroid.org/tabid/40/g/post...fastboot-support-in-Windows-for-the-Xoom.aspx
One note:
Download an updated Motorola USB driver, not the one in the URL.
This one is good:
http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-...tware_and_Drivers/USB-and-PC-Charging-Drivers
Version 5.4.0.
So after you have the SDK up and running on your PC and Motorola USB driver installed (and you do NOT need to touch your Xoom for that), it'll take you 3 min to unlock, flash custom recovery, and root.
Really not difficult.
Where do you guys see it for 249.99?
On their site its showing 319.99. :s
I've been trying to get one from Verizon with the contract price of $300 US, but they told me that it's no longer in production. ;/

Use the Universal Root method from the Xoom Development forums here.
Then install the latest (version 20 as of this writing) of the EOS ICS Nightlies. You won't regret it.
EOS Thread here
After every ROM update, install this gApps package over the top of your ROM to get your google apps back. More info in the thread. Solarnz has it together really well on that.
Hey folks! After searching I found nothing, so here we go!
I am still considering buying a nexus 7, but something has been prying on my mind: when Google removed the universal search from the galaxy nexus, did they also remove it from the nexus 7? I had a galaxy tab 2 that Samsung did this to, and was kinda a bummer since I really like the feature! So does the nexus 7 have universal (I.e. being able to search on-device as well as internet) search?

Nope, it's here, at least in cm10 that is. Nice to see you here ijimaniac . Buy this tablet, you won't regret it. My TF has become a glorified gaming console since I got this (as I don't have enough space on the N7 to keep a ton of games), and although I had to originally RMA it (and got a b60 while before I had a b70, go figure) due to light bleed, this tab is amazing, and I am normally pretty judicial when it comes to devices.
I can confirm that my stock 4.1.1 Nexus 7 does indeed have universal search functioning properly.
It sure does, it works differently though. It shows your Apps, then you swipe across and it shows you web results, then another swipe will bring up, for example, videos etc. So it doesn't show them all at the same time.
It still shows contacts and things from other apps which is the most useful part.

Happy to help, the one day I decide to peruse the N7 q/a (SUPER bored this Saturday and just crashing), and I found you. Good luck with the nexus, you won't regret it,
If you are still deliberating I cN recent getting one. Sooooooo good in every way. hardware is very impressive. Build quality, and and user experience. I usually root and unlock every android device I get as I'm used to the rom being uncomfortably laggy. this usually results in life long rom flashing back and forth from different roms never really feeling happy.
This just isn't the case with theN7 the rom is smooth fast and responsive even when hammering several big operations.
Pretty much what in getting at is that you need to go buy one if you haven't already

This is mostly just me, after a whole 24 hours of being a Note 10.1 owner (woot, go me) being annoyed that its the 3G owners that have gotten all the update goodies!
Germany got theirs a month ago, UK got theirs today... but only the 8000 models.
In theory this would mean that the 8010/8013 models will get released in Germany first, and then in the UK a month after that...
I really really *really* hope that this is not the case though. For this would be... vexing.
Saying that, I'll probably end up rooting and putting the uk 8000 rom onto my tablet anyway, as I am an impatient soul. But it is the principle of the thing that counts!
I think the reason this whole thing bothered me is this poll I saw the other day - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871383
If the 3G model was the most popular, then prioritising that firmware would make sense. It seems as though the WiFi models are by far the most prolific though!
OR.... WiFi users are more likely to answer polls.
Keep wishing hard guys, maybe we will get an update soon. and then hopefully someone will finally do a non-8000 custom rom!!
I have just decided to enjoy what I have for now. 8010 update before Christmas at some time will be fine with me. I dumped an iPad and a transformer 101 for my note and one for my other half. We are pleased.
Being a software developer I know the importance of good testing and would rather wait than have to put up with junk. Just my tuppence worth.

Makes sense, I also came from an iPad (the original one) and upgraded to a Note. Is quite a difference!
I'm a happy new owner also & very eager to get buttery smoothness on this fantastic piece of kit! hope we not waiting too long
I had enough couldn't wait anymore flashed the German jellybean on my 8010 couldn't be happier. I couldn't stand the lag on ICS, jellybean so smoooothhh don't care much for the feature smoothness was the most important.

Yep the 8000 firmware, I don't notice any drawbacks. It's stable like ics, a lot smoother, battery life same as ics 3days 10.5hrs screen. The only thing is you gotta set govonor on-demand

i want some wifi love too :crying:
i would like to have more developing for this tablet
Only real noticeable drawback is that if you use a USB toggle to connect a wireless keyboard or mouse it will drop signal on the German OTA. Other than that and the OnDemand thing as mentioned earlier it works fine on the 8013.

So that's the 8000 firmware on a 8010 Note? I understood there were issues with the ROM looking for hardware that doesn't exist. Sorry for bringing this up again, I like my Note and don't want to stuff it up.

I'm using "Team Union Rom" 8000 on my 8010 wifi without any problems what's so ever. All you have to do is use SetCPU which comes with the Rom to scaling: on-demand and check set on boot. No os issues, no random reboot all fine.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I'm pretty peev'd about this too. Can't believe that a non-3G device is getting the updates last of all. Surely theres no modem nor carrier testing to worry about so it should have actually been the first to be released?
I REALLY want to use the features of 4.1.1 and am refusing to utilise my Note properly until I get the official update.

+1 on this. This rom runs perfectly on our wifi devices
I dont want to be forced to ROOT my device though unfortunately (I have a SGS3 for all my custom ROM business lol)
Got apps that won't work if ROOT is enabled on my device, and as I intend to use this note 10.1 for work related stuff its going to be essential having a stock ROM........
What apps won't work on your SGS3 since root? I have yet to find anything whether it be on my note or my SGS3 that don't work...

DME for Enterprise (Work exchange emails) - That's because the administrator has set it to not allow ROOTED or Jailbroken devices. (I know its because I set it up lol!)
There is a work around but I care not to implement it as it still means turning a security feature off which is not worth it just for my sake!!.
Anyway - Anyone wanting to 'voice their concern' regarding no JB for 8010 users - please post on samsung page here:

Good for Enterprise won't work on rooted phones when the no root policy is in effect.

I'm also a new owner of this tablet(closing in on 3 weeks). I have a Galaxy Nexus, so I know what it feels like to get updates fast. It's a little troublesome waiting for Samsung to update this device. I told myself that I wouldn't complain since Google probably takes around the same amount of time putting together updates, but they have the luxury of seeming fast by putting them out first. What I don't understand is why Samsung is releasing the JB update for the the 3G version first. This may be due to my ignorance, if so please excuse it, but I thought it would be easier to update the WiFi version especially considering they're pretty much done the development of it.
I just got a new Nexus 10 at Walmart for $350 and was wondering if I should update to KitKat? I have seen several people complaining about it. Or should I just root and install a custom rom....although it seems like there aren't a lot of choices anymore. Do you have one that you would recommend also? Thanks
Well KitKat is really recommended over past versions : it does consumes less RAM and has overall better performance. Furthermore you can find a bunch of good ROMs around: Omni, slimkat, CM,..

When I first set up the tablet, it notified me of an update from 4.2 to 4.3. As soon add I updated, I received another notification that an update was ready for 4.2. I waited about a week, since I had read about some having problems with the initial rollout. I updated to the latest version once I decided that I was going to unlock and root my Nexus 10 (haven't loaded a custom ROM yet).
I received the both update via download (settings > about tablet > system update) . I received notification once I logged into my Google account.

OK. I guess the deal I got at Walmart wasn't too bad. I started to wait it out and see if they came down any lower. They have had four at $350 for a while and know one had touched them. Still going to keep an eye on the rest of them. Liking the 10 so far.
I found out that my gf bought me one of these on a groupon deal for my birthday. I was super stoked at first thinking it was the 2013 model and then was still stoked but slightly less stoked when i saw it was the '12 model. Still good? or should i resell and spend the extra for '13?

Just upgraded my 2012 Nexus 7 to 4.4.4 and rooted it last night. Noticed that updates were much much faster than in the past. both the update and rooting was straight forward.
Really don't use it much now days though... as I have a Note 3 phone which allows me do most of what I used a tablet for, but I originally got the Nexus 7 for mirroring to the big TV.
Outside of that, it is still a good device, works well and performs fast enough for what I would use it for.
