Hi,
I just purchased a Nexus 10 and for some reason it cannot do hangouts. The audio just cuts out regularly and the volume changes drastically. In my opinion it is almost as if it is filtering out my own voice. I can hear and see just fine it is really just a problem with people hearing me.
I thought my first Nexus 10 was defective so I returned it for a new one but I am having the exact same behavior. I also downloaded a recording app from the app store and it picks up my voice just fine. It seems to be related to google hangouts. Is anyone else experiencing this behavior. ANy way to get around it? I am thinking that I will return the Nexus 10 if I cannot get hangouts to work.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Craig
I get mine in the mail from Google tomorrow...ill try it out. Thatd be a big deal for me...I communicate with work people almost exclusively through Google plus..probably just a bug though

Try putting in some headphones with a microphone and see if that works. If it doesn't then it might just be a s/w bug that needs to be fixed. I'm sure Google will fix this soon anyways, considering it is a Nexus device so it should work very well with all of their apps.
I have the same issue...

Craig, I bought my about 10 days ago from Google and I have exactly the same issue. Mic works fine with other apps but not Talk or Google Hangout. Called tech support and all they wanted me to do was reset the tablet. Not very helpful at all...

Just a heads up that I received one for Christmas and had the same problem with Google. Skype (ew) and Tango were perfect though. Even the sound coming out to me was better. :/
Same issue here. Very frustrating.... Hopefully this gets fixed soon.
I've got a microphone issue with the nexus 10 as well in that it sounds very muffled and bad when using skype. It is pretty much useless for skype. Nothing is blocking the microphone though.
My old samsung tab 10.1 sound quality is perfect. So it is disappointing that the nexus 10 mic quality is so poor. I first thought to send it back under warranty but based on the complaints I come across sofar it appears to be a design or construction flaw in the Nexus 10. Apart from that it is a great tablet (got it 5 days).

Search xda for the thread where this was being discussed. The nexus 10 has two microphones and it seems that software uses the back microphone when it should be using the front one... There is more information in that thread.

Did anyone find a solution to this issue? I did a nexus 10 to nexus 10 hangout yesterday and the volume level was changing constantly.

This is just superbad. Any news here? Bought two nexus 10 devices for familymembers, telling them that the nexus stuff should provide a perfect video call experience for the money.
This is just sad. Do I really have to switch to a headset or to my smartphone?

I would take them back and get nexus 7's. Google dropped the ball with support on the nexus 10. Maybe itssamsungs fault. Who knows.
I never had the issue on my nexus 10 but my gfs grandma did so I can't test to see if its still happening. Make sure everything's up to date but that's obvious

Hi There,
I've just got my Galaxy S today, used to have a HTC Desire.
First problem I had was connecting to Kies. W7 x64 didnt like it, but turn the phone on while the usb was plugged in solved this.
Now for my second problem. Using my HTC Desire, I bought various apps from the market, but some of these such as Caligo Chaser can't be found when I search the market. How can I solve this?
Third: Kies tells me that "This mobile phone is not supported by Samsung Apps" and won't let me download some of the apps i want through there. What can I do?
I also want to use the podcast widget in kies, but when I enable it it tells me "Available after updating to the latest version" even though I have the latest version of Kies. What's wrong?
I would really like to use keys because managing my music and videos works fine.
Regards,
Lyno
I'm a former desire owner and very dissappointed GS owner. How have you found this device compared to desire? My experience has been one of great dissappointed.
I'm totally the opposite!
I love the screen, the video capability and the overall performance.
totally wipes the floor with my desire.
I take it you have issue with the lag ging freeze, ram issue, or gps?

I've been using it intensely, running all sorts of apps and 720 videos and as of yet, no lagging.
What's the RAM issue?
Not tried GPS yet, will do today.
What about the apps that don't appear?
This is driving me crazy! I keep checking out these forums, trying to figure out what problems are really going on with this device and it's insane how some folks are having issues that if are real, should be happening to all but that doesn't seem to be the case. I have an iPhone 4 and although it's nice, it's lacking in so many features I would call basic. I also have an Evo that has build quality issues but overall performs well. I hate the looks of the Droid X and so I'm trying to decide on the SGS, Evo and iPhone 4.
Going to check out the Captivate today in store and really give it some testing and look for some of the issues mentioned on this forum.......

Here's an issue that no one mentions but is definitely prevalent. Not all headphones with inline mic work on the SGS. I got pissed that my vmoda vibe duo sounded like pure crap but the headphones included worked fine. After a quick forum search I found out that alot of users experience this problem and as far as I know, there's no way to "know" which headphones (with inline mic) will work for sure. There's a "dirty fix" which is to tape down the talk button on the mic but i'd rather not have to deal with that.
I told my bud working at AT&T to check to see if the Captivate has that problem but he only had access to the stock headphones at the time...I'll update if he confirms or denies the same issue on the Captivate

Not sure if you have flashed a new ROM yet but this sounds like you cannot see protected apps (some, but far from all paid apps are protected). Could you post your ROM versions (dial *#1234# to see them). If this is an issue with the protected apps, there is a solution in my FAQ thread.

I personally find it impressive that you got Kies to recognize your phone correctly in Windows 7 x64. I have done everything short of a complete Windows reinstall. So far without success. I personally find it one of the biggest shortcomings of Samsung regarding this phone. Software support this crappy belongs in the previous century and is simply ridiculous in the year 2010!
Im using win7 x64 and kies works ok. I had to install twice because the first time i plugged the phone in too soon and that fubarred the driver install.

I guess I'll add this to the list of things to consider when testing the Captivate. It really seems like there are people who get the device and don't want to hear about problems like parents who don't want to hear about their children doing wrong. Every device has some type of problems but there should be no issues with talking about any problems in a place like this......
So first of all about Kies ... it is not really supporting the android phone if I undesrtood well
For instance the samsung app are not android app
That's why it say's that your phone is not recognized
I think we will have to wait for a new version of Kies
On my side it doens't work on my vista 32 but it doens on another desktop on vista 64.
I already re installed the soft 3 time but still have the problem of MTP failed ( and WM11 doens't work neither )
I had no problems with Kies in Win7 x64 and identifying my device.
I have a problem with Kies in general. It sucks.
win7 64 and kies worked ok for me on me laptop and desktop. but your right it is pants!
I haven't really used Kies yet. What is it supposed to do?

Yeah I know what you mean. Tested the vibrant today with iphone headphones and they didn't have the same issue. I showed the chick working at the t-mobile store what I meant with my own phone and she was pretty surprised at that problem.

I also need to know that the Nexus 4 is capable of recording during a phone call before I buy one.
I've tested the app "Record My Call" with the Sony xperia S, LG Optimus One P500, & Huawei G300, all work acceptably with it, not as well as my Nokia C7 did but OK. I used to use the LG P500 with "TapeTalk" as well, I need to record customers details as I'm a home white goods repairer. Please don't start with all that legal stuff, as in Australia it's not illegal, it's just not admissible in court.
I now have a Nexus S, which is why I ask this, which won't even record my side during a call, if that is the case with all Nexus phones then I'll have to jump ship to a Sony, (the Xperia TX) but I like having a device that gets all the Google goodies, my Nexus S has just updated to CM10 stable & it's great. So if any of you new Nexus 4 owners could install & try Record My Call & report here I would be most grateful.

Hi Ksavai, I thought some one who had tried it was getting back, but alas.
Come on guys, be a pal, be a buddy !
Record my Fall worked for my nexus 4!
But it makes a weird noise when i hang up.
I think it has something to do with the app.
Because it uses the mic to record.
When i disable the mic during the phone it does not record the other side, and me of course.
Only one reply, guess I'm in a small minority that are interested in this, surprised.

Actually you're not the only one! I joined this site just for this thread so here we go...
I own a Nexus 4 and was very surprised to find out that my call recording app of choice, Call Recorder (from Clever Mobile, version 2.0) no longer recorded the other side of the conversation. Just a few weeks ago, I was rockin' it with my Galaxy Nexus (GSM) and recording perfect phone calls left and right. I figured I'd have the same feature on the Nexus 4, but I was all wrong.
Thinking the app might be the cause, I switched over to another free one also called Call Recorder (from Appstar Solutions, version 3.21) and it records only from the MIC, which means it will work on a call when done through speakerphone. However, when you try to change the settings to either "Voice UpLink" or "Voice DownLink" it gives you a message stating that your device does not support this feature. Good thing I figured this out before going Pro ($6.99). This app also makes you go pro if you want to save the recordings and do a bunch of other stuff...which would be more than worth the price if it recorded directly off the phone line. I don't have my Nexus GSM with me at the moment so I can't see if this app works with it or not.
At this time, I can't seem to find any other recording app that works with the Nexus 4. It's possible that Google disabled this feature due to the vast amounts of legal issues this could present to users in certain areas. However, I'm not giving up just yet...
I also am interested in this but have no information to contribute as I don't yet have a Nexus 4.
If we get with Skvalex about his Call Recorder app and possibly start a donation fund to get him a Nexus 4, he'd most likely make this work as he's done for several phones that never had call recorder support before. Here is a link to his app.
I'm interested

@ledfrog I have neither phone, but from what i read on other forums, the Galaxy Nexus didn't record calls. Can you confirm what ROM you were using to get it to record calls? Or if it was stock?
I have done a lot of work with audio on Android devices and i know from experience that call recording is disabled in the low level code on a lot of handsets. This is due to the how legal it is in various countries.

I can confirm that call recording does indeed work on the Gnex (maguro) with the use of an app called CallRecorder developed by a member here on the forums "Skvalex". It uses another app called Alsa Mixer. Alsa Mixer also needs busybox installed to work.
Thanks for the input, please try the app I mentioned as working on the Xperia s. It works even of speaker, though not as loud but OK in a quiet environment.
I used the LG optimus p500 for a year with just "tape talk" turning it on manually, which have me hope with this nexus made by LG.

CallRecorder doesn't work. Not properly. It only records from the microphone - A kernel with the 2 way call recording patch isn't available yet (to my knowledge). And this is something I need, too.

I really thought a Nexus phone would be open enough to allow call recording...damn. Is it a kernel feature and can be added? Or is it on some other chip in the phone hardware and we can't do anything about it...
Also I'm surprised that wazbits had it working on a Sony device...my Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc didn't allow call recording either.
Perhaps it's just me being stupid, but no matter what I try, I can't get the bluetooth on my Nexus 4 to work.
If I try and send a file from my Nexus, it simply says "Bluetooth share: File [file name] not sent". If I try to send a file to my Nexus, from my laptop for example, my laptop simply cannot find my Nexus.
Obviously, the bluetooth is on and it's set to visible, but I just cannot transfer files to or from it. At first I thought it may have been a software issue and would be resolved with the latest 4.2.2 update, but it still doesn't work.
Any advice?
Bump.
Same problem here.
I received my N4 yesterday. I can't get the Bluetooth to work at all!
My Bluetooth headset is not visible, I can't share files with an other phone or PC.
I'm running Android 4.2.1.
I hope the lastest 4.2.2 is going to come quick and solve my problem.
EDIT 2:45 : I updated to 4.2.2 and my BT still not works! I called Google Play's support, the problem is not known. I asked for an exchange which I await confirmation. I'm cursed.

Please update the thread if you receive a working replacement.
I've had mine for 2 months, but I hadn't tried using the bluetooth until a couple of days ago.
I had my Nexus 4 since early December, and my Bluetooth always worked....until I upgraded to PanaroidAndroid 3+ (it worked fine when it was 2.99).
I use my Bluetooth everyday, so this is kind of a pain. Are you on a Rom, or are you having issues with a stock Nexus 4?

Sorry to bump the old thread. I just got my nexus yesterday . I am facing the same Bluetooth problem. I can only transfer files via Bluetooth after a restart. After some time Bluetooth never connects . Tried sending files from multiple devices but to no avail. I reside in India. So sending back the device would not be a better option to me since it would take too much of a cost to get it shipped from here and back. Well i gotta flash a stock image again and see if the problem still exists. A little bit confused and lost
This might not work for you guys at all...but who knows.
If you are using any type of battery saving app, disable it first, restart, and see if BT works for you. My Go Power Master messes up my BT all the time.
Sorry for bumping the old thread . But i have same problem with my Bluetooth. The file transfer works only the first time after restarting my device. The second time it simply fails. None of the devices can send me a file via Bluetooth. Anybody found a solution yet for this ?
I just got my nexus from the US 2 days back. And sending it back for a replacement would be a huge problem since i stay in India.

I had this issue while I was stock and just out of box 1 month ago with a brand new pair of s10 Motorola's BT headset. I had wound up turning both on and off over and over till I got it. I guess its just lg? Or nexus 4 build with 4.0 BT I think it is anyway. Which I had on another device I preffered the 3.+ over the newest BT ...anyway try turning off both and back on several times. Sometimes now I have to hard reset the s10s

I'm fully stock and my Bluetooth is also flaky to say the least.
The reason I'm asking is because this (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.directv.dvrscheduler) is one of the main apps I use on my nexus 10 and ever since I did the upgrade to 4.2.2 it exhibits stutter during live TV playback. I can't be certain this is related to 4.2.2 and thus my question, is anyone using this app with 4.2.2 and successfully playing back live TV stutter free? Like I said, it was stable for me up until just a couple weeks ago.
In the event there aren't too many others using this app does anyone know how to reach those who are responsible for developing and sending out stock os updates? It might not mean anything to them but I've thought of providing feedback around what I'm seeing and I guess it I'd worth a try. Who knows, maybe they could release a fix in the next update.
I have the app. Don't use it for watching shows because it's horrible. Basically use the dvr function to record shows. You could probably go to the website and complain. I think that i looked into it once before.
Have you seen their Ipad app? It is absolutely beautiful and works flawlessly. The guide looks just like the web version and it also has a built in remote so you can control all of your receivers. It is the one app that I want updated on android!

Yes, I've seen it on the iPad. The GUI is much better, as you mentioned, but typically the live playback was the same in my experience. They both looked acceptable on the iPad and my Nexus 10. Of course with 4.2.2 all that seemed to change and now I have stutter. I really hope this can somehow be resolved. I only use probably about 5 apps on my N10 on a consistent basis and this is one of them.

The app only allows for a select number, but I think there are quite a few, something like channel 200 and above. Personally, I watch it for The Tennis Channel and HGTV while I'm working out. Of course I can't any more since something seems to be an issue. I keep wondering whether anyone on 4.2.2 is able to stream live TV or not. I was able to do it with 4.2.1 just fine.

I just pulled up the DirecTv app for the first time since the 4.2.2 update to do live streaming. EXACT same problem as you. Stuttering where it was smooth before. Same is true for the tablet and phone version of the app. I would say 4.2.2 is the likely culprit unfortunately.

Thank you so much for confirming this. Any thoughts on who we might be able to reach out to so that they have an awareness that this issue exists? I'm not quite sure who is best to contact when it comes to the developers of the android operating system.

I'm guessing there's pretty much nothing you can do other than downrating in the market and explaining why. That's what I did.

I can't take this any longer. Watching DirecTV on my tablet was one of the primary reasons I purchased it. DirecTV just released a brand new app for Android and it looks almost identical to the iPad's (very nice GUI). But guess what? The stupid live streaming also fails on the Nexus 10 with the latest OS updates in the same way their other app did. Unbelievable. I've done what I can to contact DirecTV and Google about the issues, but I'm not seeing much response and since it has already been probably 4 months I'm not expecting a true resolution any time soon.
SO...this leaves me with taking matters in to my own hands. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to rooting, but I guess what I need to do is root the device and either install a different build or roll back the Google OS to 4.2.1, the version that worked with the DirecTV app. Could anyone point me in the right direction of what the best course of action might be to accomplish this? There are so many posts with what seems like so many options I am overwhelmed. Any guidance is appreciated.
Now with the update to 4.3 it won't stream at all. Just goes blank. Fantastic.

I'm getting the exact same thing after the 4.3 update. What is Google thinking!?!? And how long before they actually fix major bugs like this?
Finally finally finally. DirecTV has fixed this app. It doesn't appear the picture quality is as good as it used to be, but I'm not really going to complain about that. They at least have it operational again. Where I will complain is around the time it took to get a resolution. For as much DirecTV is advertising their mobile viewing ability with tablets and cell phones, this should have been an "all hands on deck" priority for them and it wasn't. DirecTV, you can do better, but for the moment, I will give them credit for getting it done.

Glad it works for you. Looks like you found how get rid of those icons. I hate them as well in status bar way I roll just let all calls record anyway.
I've used Killer Mobile's TotalRecall app for years now but for the first time its basically broke as hell on a new device of mine. I brought it to their attention, and shortly after they released a minor update that I think actually made it worse. Now, they are telling me two weeks for a fix.
I hate being held captive on support but wouldn't be jazzed about throwing 10 bucks at another app to do the exact same thing. I think the only thing to do is be a complete pain in the ass until it's fixed. I'm being sarcastic. Kind of.

Does this still work for you? I've been looking for another option since the open source Call recorder for Android doesn't seem to work for Android 6.0.1 on my 6P while it does still work for Lollipop. I've tried a couple of options but it records only the incoming voice and very low, whether using only the device microphone or Bluetooth. If this still works for you it may be worth the purchase.
Thanks in advance.
